Max Cavaler is one of the founders of Brazilian metal heavyweights Sepultura, and after his departure in 1996 has formed multiple bands including Soulfly, Cavalera Conspiracy and Go Ahead And Die.  Max is releasing a re-recording of the classic Sepultura album 'Schizophrenia' and we spoke with him about the early days, chasing dreams, the birth of Death/Trash, the sound of Schizophrenia, hidden gems, breaking a guitar while writing a riff, and a lot more! Interview by: Robin HignellSupport the Show.Thank you for listening! Max Cavalera has been audibly pissed since the 1985 release of Sepultura's debut EP “Bestial Devastation” (and probably before). His mood has not improved in the years since. From Nailbomb to Soulfly, Cavalera Conspiracy to Killer Be Killed, every project the Brazilian guitarist/songwriter/shouter has been involved with has loudly had more than its fair share of vitriol. Maybe forming a band with his son would calm the 54 year old. Maybe, but then they opted to call the project Go Ahead and Die and write songs called “Truckload of Bodies.” I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. We welcome Igor Amadeus Cavalera, son of the legendary influential Max Cavalera. Igor joins IUF to talk about his newest band that emerged as he joins forces with his father and drummer Zach Coleman to form the thrash metal outfit Go Ahead And Die. Playing the music you love is one thing, but sharing the stage with your father is another emphatic notion entirely – and Igor talks about how grateful he has been for this opportunity. While the live music scene has been affected by the worldwide situation, Igor and his bandmates took this time to build their on-stage chemistry while recording the debut self-titled album. We also ask Igor the feeling of signing with a highly lauded label like Nuclear Blast Records and the themes which were incorporated within this new album. Within these themes, there was plenty to discuss that dealt within the pandemic itself and the social injustices that took place in the last 14 months or so. Hot on the heels of a conversation with Max's son, Igor Amadeus, Max shares his thoughts on the debut from Go Ahead and Die, his role as a Godfather of extreme metal and his take on why his family is so well adjusted given their exposure to the life in the music biz. Arizona’s new metal behemoth Go Ahead And Die is most definitely a band made up of musical royalty and pedigree.Featuring none other than Max Cavalera, Go Ahead And Die is rounded out by drummer Zach Coleman and Max’s son, Igor Amadeus Cavalera, in a band that not only transcends normal family ties in metal but goes above and beyond.Igor joined HEAVY for a chat during the week to talk about the new project and album."It's awesome man,” Igor enthused. “It's a crazy mash-up of punk, hardcore, old school thrash and old school death metal. It has a lot of different influences; a lot of different genres but it all blends together really well to come up with this completely insane, extreme, abrasive sound. I've been calling it the opposite of easy listening (laughs). It's a cool mash-up of a lot of different influences that I like and my father likes as well. We both just took our favourite styles of music and put it in a blender and Go Ahead And Die is what you get.”In the full interview, Igor runs over the recording of the album, the songs on it, working with his Dad and more.
