On this episode of the Scandalous Podcast, I sit down with the incredible Katerina Kiranos, aka Katacombs. We dive into everything from childhood memories and navigating relationships, to the cultural richness of traveling—especially our adventures in places like London and Greece. She opens up about confronting life's challenges, the strength she's found through the support of loved ones, and the powerful freedom that comes from breaking away from societal expectations—especially the pressure to always be "polite." Throughout our chat, we touch on the feminine experience in music, the evolution of her voice, and the confidence it takes to stay true to yourself in a world that often pushes conformity. She also shares what touring has taught her, the ongoing journey of self-acceptance, and what it means to find empowerment at every stage of life. It's raw, it's real, and of course—it's a little bit Scandalous.Follow @ScandalousOfficial

What if you said the darkest thing you ever thought…or actually sang it out loud in a packed room of cheerful many-tattooed like-minded fans? You might find yourself at an Amigo The Devil concert - an experience that longtime self-professed “murder-folk” master Danny Kiranos has dutifully worked on for a decade and a half - bringing the banjo and acoustic guitar into a world once only populated by hardcore or death metal listeners. Murder ballads were first documented in 1840s Scandinavia, England, Ireland and Scotland - but what Amigo The Devil has done with a squirmy, personal new LP Yours Until The War Is Over is to take them to a new level - probing with his deft fingerpicking and at turns tender and then ferocious vocals - his own sicknesses, his own dark family secrets and our national plunge into addiction, murder and hate. And yet, it's still fun to listen to? Quite a balancing act. Why does it feel so good to shout “I Hope Your Husband Dies!” in a packed auditorium - or to discover our own “Cannibal Within”? There must a reason why true crime podcasts and novels and horror films continue to obsesses us. Danny takes these obsessions a step further of course - he collects skulls, serial killer art, letters from jail from men who have done the unspeakable…and yet, after hearing him talk on his songwriting process, you see he is among the most thoughtful and underrated writers and performers on the road today. To see the whole uncut nearly two hour talk - go to the Show On The Road Youtube channel!
Amigo the Devil, aka Danny Kiranos, has been making noise for a long time. We cover a lot of ground from songwriting inspirations, the direction he's moving in with his new album, and why Irish bands like to take him on the road.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Against” vom amerikanischen Singer-Songwriter Amigo the Devil.

Amigo the Devil sat down with Joshua Toomey and the Talk Toomey Podcast at his recent stop at Louder Than Life. The guys playing with a full band at the festival, Carson being crazy on the drums and his background in metal. They talk the songwriting process and Amigo's honesty in his music. Arrangements and Elvis are brought up. He wishes he could pinpoint a specific influence on his music and they talk collecting instruments and trinkets. They end the conversation with his recent cave exploring.
We've come around once again to one of our favorite segments of the podcast, where we let you the listener choose an album, any album, and then we take a crack at listening, reviewing, and then telling you all what we think of it as a whole. This week we were tasked with taking on not only an album that we had never heard before but also an artist that we had never heard of. A master of "Murderfolk" (which we had also not heard of until taking a stab at this album), a crooner from the dark side, straight from the mind of Danny Kiranos. If you haven't figured out who I'm talking about yet, it sounds like you might need to brush up on a little bit of Amigo The Devil. Amigo The Devil is no stranger to darkness, serial killers, or country music. In October 2018 Danny Kiranos, better known by his stage name Amigo The Devil released his first full-length album titled "Everything Is Fine". Recruiting Ross Robinson for production and Brad Wilk of Rage Against The Machine for drums. A pretty big deal for an outlaw country guy putting together his first full-length project. "Everything Is Fine" and Amigo The Devil are both unique listening experiences in the least and if you had to liken them to something you're more familiar with, think along the lines of if Johnny Cash and Orville Peck had a little music baby and sang about even deeper and darker stuff than they already do. Sound strange? Sound appealing? It certainly does and that is because it is. I would love to keep writing about this Amigo, but unfortunately, there isn't a whole lot of info floating around out there about him, so perhaps the easiest way to get to know him is to listen to this album. It's season 6, episode 8 of your favorite local exterminator's favorite music podcast. LET'S GO!!! Keep up with all of the music we talk about in each episode by listening to the Infectious Groove Podcast Companion Songs playlist, exclusively on Spotify. Amigo the Devil speaks about how he forgot how important the feeling of playing live music felt and although he is so happy and excited to be back, he really enjoyed the forced time off. Pipeman and Amigo the Devil talk about how we need music more than anything right now and there's just no feeling like seeing artist play life again. Amigo the Devil mentions how he thought all the best writing would come from people being stuck inside but how he actually now thinks all the best writing is going to come from people during their healing and processing everything that's just happened. CLICK HERE AND USE CODE: TTP15 As a fan of music in general I think it's always a good practice to expand your horizons and step outside your comfort zone. Even if a particular genre isn't really my cup of tea, I always learn something by studying what is going on in other genres. On today's episode we do just that in our interview with an Austin, TX artist who has a huge cult following named Danny Kiranos who tours under the moniker, Amigo The Devil. As you'll hear in the interview Danny has had an interesting journey to become the artist he is today. Danny went from a successful life as an honest to God, Master Brewer of craft beer to becoming a hugely popular one-man act with nothing more than banjo. Amigo the Devil is pretty much the torch-bearer for the genre known as “murder-folk”. His songs are witty and wry takes on some of the darkest parts of human life including murder and human suffering. I really enjoyed our visit with Danny and found his life and the “murder-folk” side of things just down right interesting. During the interview through zoom he even showed Carly and I some interesting pieces from his collection of oddities. This was another fun interview and I really think you'll enjoy Danny and our dive into a new genre of music here on the podcast. This auteur of what has been called "murderfolk" music, discusses the origins of his dark musical tone and building an audience through relentless touring.
Amigo the Devil is a pretty unique songwriter. His songs are hard to pin down, both sonically and lyrically. He calls his sound “Dark Folk” which is pretty accurate. But it’s more than that. He draws on various influences to create a sonic landscape that is sparse, and intriguing. His lyrics often focus on heavy issues of death, religion, even ethics. In the end his songwriting is fascinating and leaves you thinking about things long after the song is over. I had a chance to chat with him about his new album “Born Against.” I hope you dig it!

What happens when you create a hybrid of eerie, sinister folk music and lyrical narratives drenched in murder, serial killers and social decay? Find out just why the world of heavy music is falling in love with Murderfolk's Amigo the Devil.
If you’ve ever heard a room full of people yelling “I hope your husband dies” in some harmoniously sloppy, drunken unison, you’ve probably stumbled into an Amigo The Devil show. Danny Kiranos, better known to the masses as his musical counterpart Amigo The Devil, has been challenging the expectations of traditional folk, country music purists, and rock/extreme metal fans alike with his morbid, yet oddly romantic, take on folk that has amassed a dedicated and cult-like fan-base. Despite being armed with only his vocals and a banjo/acoustic guitar, the live show is worlds away from what people expect of a folk show. Loaded with sing-alongs and an unsuspecting dose of humor to make otherwise grim topics accessible for fans of every genre, the songs remain deeply rooted in the tradition of story-telling that seems to be slipping away from the human condition. RAMBLING: “I got tired of seeing people overcomplicate what they feel, or worse, ignore it altogether. Amigo The Devil started as an outlet for the brutal honesty that people didn’t feel comfortable discussing. More than create, I listened. At a bar, while eating dinner, at the DMV. Call it creeping if you want but it’s a pass time nonetheless. Even in the music being released about it, people used metaphors to dance around and avoid mentioning the dark thoughts people have and that just isn’t enough to shake you from the daydream, or a fever. It had to be simple, direct and honest. At the start, it seemed logical to learn this process by taking the worst people and trying to find the humanity in them. I wrote some songs about serial killers and realized that no matter how despicable their crimes were, everything was still rooted in the human condition with the same basic need to be needed, to feel valued, to have worth. Through this learning process, I realized there was actually something so much more dangerous than the people committing heinous crimes and it was stained so deeply into the fabric of our daily lives. Doubt and the depression it leaves us stranded in. Every experience is clearly different but for me, all of a sudden, it felt like I was living in a well so deep that if I shouted up for help, it would be lost on the way and never heard. It’s terrifying when it feels like you’re alone down there and there isn’t enough light to look around to realize how many people are there alongside you. For some reason, I refused to talk to my friends and family about it. It was shameful or irrelevant or any other excuse I can come up with to avoid bringing it up and when they would notice and ask, I caught myself repeatedly answering “everything is fine” or any variation of it at that moment. So this record was born. I started listening again, realizing it wasn’t just me. I saw people around me falling into the well but as I started paying attention, I saw people climbing out of it too. These are the stories of leaving the burden behind, whatever that may be and hopefully, along with it the realization that carrying them for any period of time doesn’t break us but makes us stronger than we ever were. This is where Ross Robinson comes in. He allowed me to become and guided me towards being the best vessel I could be to filter these stories through. We sat there and accepted what wanted to come through, what wanted to be heard. It was the first process of recording that ever made complete sense with absolutely no filter or veil to compensate for the sounds. Recording in a studio untouched since the ’70s with all the original gear, straight to tape. Everything, recording, mixing mastering, to tape! It was absolute and pure brutal honesty, what I’ve been trying to achieve since the start of this thing. Then Brad Wilk added his pulse to it and it felt like together we had given life to these stories that otherwise are sounds and lyrics filling space. Everyone involved dove headfirst into a pool without water for this one and I’m unbelievably grateful to be in there with them.”
Episode 178, featuring tracks from Amigo The Devil, Rübenschneider, Abe and His Babe, American Nightmare, Crimes of Fashion, Flores Robadas, Turbonegro, Hatebreed, The Explainers, High on Fire, and Farmacy. Eric joins the show by Zoom, we talk about Project Sell Out’s new video, great new tracks, great cover to cover albums, play more horror punk/psychobilly themed music, and wrapping up the show with Metal.
Danny Kiranos, aka Amigo The Devil, first gained attention for singing romantic yet campy folk/country songs about serial killers and providing sideshow entertainment at metal festivals. Now he’s largely singing about the evil within the self, and learning from past mistakes. In this episode of HOT-BLOODED with Cat Jones, he talks about finding love stories in the evilest of places, learning from past disastrous relationships, the importance of supporting your partner in finding happiness of any kind, and what happens when people take the wrong meaning form your songs.
Is he country? Death metal? Or acoustic genius? Amigo The Devil is a brilliant musician who doesn't exactly fit in a genre with his guitar and hard lyrics. He's also one helluva conversationalist. And like Fred, he hates vodka. Good man! As they sip Old Fitzgerald Birthday Bourbon and Belle Meade Bourbon, they talk about why vodka sucks, food favorites (including nuts) and why Amigo will never drink a martini. It's an honor to have the one and only Kevin Zinger on the show today! Kevin is an entrepreneur who has been driving the skate, surf, and punk rock cultures in San Diego for years. He manufactures clothing, manages bands, produces films, curates art exhibitions, and even has a syndicated radio show! Kevin grew up in Southern California dreaming to be a pro surfer, and while he made cash from his sponsorships each month he was smart enough to realize early on that it wasn't going to be viable as a career choice. His surfing did introduce him to bands like The Offspring, Pennywise, and Sublime, in their fledgling phases though. He began to bring bands like these to his hometown to play at packed venues he was too young to get into for 5 dollars a ticket! Keven shares how this early love for organizing gigs became the center of multiple passion projects that linked art, music, and fashion — while earning him a living too! He has some great stuff to share with us today about how doing what you love may not always make you a millionaire but why that shouldn't stop you. We also get into Kevin's love for surfing and boxing, hearing the central place they occupy in his life, and he doesn't leave out some of the gnarly bangs and scrapes he has experienced along the way. Kevin also shares some of the wicked new films he is producing as well as artists he is working with, so hit that play button and get ready for the ride! For more information about artists, links and resources from this episode, please visit https://notrealart.com/kevin-zinger/. Key Points From This Episode: The special thing about art and how Kevin and Scott can't get enough of it. How Kevin fell in love with art while immersed in the different subcultures in California. The central place of art and passion in Kevin's self-made multifaceted career. How Kevin got into organizing gigs working with bands like Pennywise and The Offspring. What defines the word ‘artist' and how it's broader than making conventional art. Why being able to occupy different worlds is central to Kevin's career. Honesty and hard work are key factors to Kevin's success. More than making millions, Kevin is trying to help artists not have to get a day job. A discussion of the actual profit that Kevin would make by organizing a seemingly big event. Typical artist profits and exploitations, and the reality that all that glitters isn't gold. The central role that surfing and boxing have in Kevin's mental health and productivity. Being a surfer was key to the connections Kevin made in the early days of his career. How Kevin nearly lost his ear in a horrific surfing accident crashing into a novice longboarder. What Kevin's dad taught him and did to become his biggest life inspiration. How Scott and Kevin's natures saved them from partying hard but not ruining their lives. The details of a binge drinking session with Scott's friends and Man One in Chicago. A discussion about Kevin's two new graffiti documentaries. Kevin's perspectives about profit and relevance in his new documentaries. What stopped Scott making an art film about Kevin Feldman's Boeing 747 at Burning Man. Scott's take on Burning Man's ephemerality, surreality, and communal spirit. Why Kevin hasn't been to Burning Man yet but might go still. A blow-by-blow account of a crazy art experience Scott had involving drones at Burning Man. What makes Amigo The Devil the best songwriter Kevin has found in decades.
