She is Aztec through and through as her mom worked at the school while she was pregnant with LaShae! We talk about dirty politics and transparency and we (mostly me) joke about an attack ad aimed at her, that I found silly. She is all about community, give a few cool little quotes I found inspiring and will probably steal them as my own in the future. She was a great sport and played along. We find out about her dreams and aspirations and why she chose a super sappy movie in the electric chair question.

Ensuring that everyone has healthy food options available to them is the impetus for Gwenna Hunter, the founder of the Vegans of LA Food Bank, to launch the venture. Gwenna explains, “Food worthiness is a human right. In providing plant-based foods to communities in need we empower them with new food choices and in turn we create a more sustainable world.” Gwenna speaks about “food worthiness” from her heart. Growing up in a food desert herself in Cleveland, she knows what it's like not to have a grocery store for miles. “Without knowing why, coupled with the lack of education provided, I now know that I was experiencing poor nutrition, not by choice, but by scarcity of accessibility to healthy foods.” With the rising costs of groceries, families are struggling even more to regularly provide nutritious meals. Drawing on her experience working with a non-profit organization managing a vegan food aid program that provided WFPB (Whole Food Plant Based) products and produce for social justice and community organizations, such as the LGBT Center South, Black Lives Matter Los Angeles, Black Women Farmers of LA, Black Women for Wellness, KRST Unity Center, and Downtown Crenshaw, Gwenna her experience and understanding of the dearth of healthy, plant-based options in many areas of Los Angeles to provide food equality to those who do not have accessibility, in partnership with Hope On Union Food Bank. The food bank is collaborating with several well-known plant-based companies, such as Hodo Foods, Good Catch, Hilary's, OMNI Foods, Unreal Deli and more, to make their products available to people who live in these “food deserts” where access to healthy, nutritious food is extremely limited. In addition, fresh fruits and vegetables are offered as part of the program. The response from local residents has been overwhelming since launching the program in May, 2022. J.R. Strayve, Jr. was born to a nomadic military family, attending nine schools before entering college. Following service in the United States Marine Corps, he raised a family. Jerry lived with a gnawing feeling inside that there was something different about him. Never knowing what that was, or why, he proceeded to pursue what was considered to be the American Dream. He achieved all he desired, or so he thought, marriage to a college sweetheart, children, a house with a picket fence. Along with the American Dream life, he describes caring for a daughter with disabilities who they were told would essentially be a vegetable and should be institutionalized. The family forged on together, their special needs daughter was special beyond her own personal limitations. In their special needs daughter, the Strayve family found a commitment that bound them together for thirty years. But through the years, Jerry's difference' that laid dormant inside him, needed to be set free. Jerry reveals the effect of denying who he was his entire life, the effect on him personally, psychologically and emotionally. When he finally acknowledged his identity the life he knew, and some of the people in it, and the relationships he cherished changed. He describes the challenges he's faced In search of pursuing a place in his new life. Jerry Strayve wears his heart on his sleeve, his openness and transparency is a testament to his bravery and courage to leave the life he always wanted to the life he desperately needed.

Stepfamily Mission POSSIBLE!™ How to Lead Your Stepfamily with Influence | Jen Rogers - Faith-Led Stepfamily Coach, Podcast

What's something you don't put on your resume or business bio?   "I was divorced 3 times...my mom divorced when I was 6.  Remarried when I was 7.  Then, divorced at 12.  My mom remarried when I was 13.  Again, she  divorced when I was 19," says my recent guest, Marie Mack, Business Owner, First Cup to Close.  Marie is an entrepreneur who puts her stepchild experience and military finesse into practice as she manages priorities in her life.Full disclosure here - I was again reminded of the impact divorce and remarriage has on our children.  As one caught up in the divorce, I didn't initially comprehend that my children were going through a divorce, too.  I knew they were experiencing the effects of divorce, but I didn't quite grasp that they were divorcing, too. Thank you, Marie, for this powerful reminder.Be sure to listen to the end to hear Marie share a defining moment.  A typical Wednesday, Marie found herself sitting in a chapel, receiving a word from a stranger that she describes as God's message to her. So good, Marie! Thank you for opening the door to kick out the shame often associated with kids who experience things they don't quite know how to deal with. I dedicate this episode to all stepkiddos who have/are dealing with the fallout of divorce.  As Marie so beautifully reminded us, you are divorcing, too.  I pray you receive God's healing balm and accept his offer of HOPE and EXPECTANCY for how God has gifted you to turn that pain into purpose.Marie's adaptability has become a framework for her success! Foundational steps Marie uses in her business and home life apply to stepfamilies, too.
