Rachel has a designer's moxie. Her creativity and observation skills serve her in life and in her career in textiles. A college class field trip allowed her to imagine a professional path working with fabric and weaving, a craft she lovingly pursued as a child with her grandmother. She finds inspiration in the smallest places and sets her moxie sights always higher, one ladder rung at a time, building on what she has created for herself and her family. Rachel, the Design Director for Pollack, has textile design in her DNA. She created her first official textile pattern in third grade–splatter-painted curtains made from old sheets. Her high school graduation present—a new sewing machine—offers another clue to her early textile passions, as did the uniquely personal clothing it helped her create. She studied printmaking and painting and even taught batik workshops when she first entered college at Umass Amherst. In the Textile Design department at the Rhode Island School of Design, she realized the practical application of her beloved woven and printed textile techniques. Rachel first worked in the fashion industry, including designing printed silk scarves at Echo before joining the Pollack Studio in 2000. In 2007, she was appointed Vice President, Associate Design Director. She took the helm as Pollack's Design Director in 2012, overseeing the Studio and guiding the creative vision for each textile collection. In the Studio, she and her team always begin a pattern by first creating artwork by hand. The studio's designers are, first and foremost, weavers. They have degrees in textile design, having learned the architecture of cloth and how to build a fabric from the ground up. Rachel works with weavers worldwide to bring Pollack's designs to life.Rachel's designs for Pollack have been featured in national magazines, including Architectural Digest, Interior Design, and Elle Décor. She has been profiled on such sites as Apartment Therapy and House and Home TV. Two of her creations, “Mod” and “Curlycue,” are in the permanent collection of the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum. This episode of Main Street Moxie is sponsored by Elyse Harney Real Estate and North East Ford. For more information about Rachel, check out the episode's show notes on our website.

Should you think of your home as an investment? Let's start by defining Investment. Financially, an investment is spending money in order to gain income or profit. Certainly, if you're in the rental or flipping business, you're purchasing to generate income or profits so, it wouldn't make sense to buy unless the house was a good financial investment. But if buying a house to live in, your primary purpose is not income or profit so, should you be concerned with making a profit when you sell? Your ego will scream “Yes”! But I challenge you to pose this question to your soul before you buy. It's interesting that we expect to make money from our homes when we typically don't expect to profit from other things we buy rather, we know they'll go down in value. But because a home is expensive AND we hear of others who “made a lot of money” when they sold, we may anticipate feeling shame if we don't. Let's transcend this dilemma by considering another definition of investment: devoting time, talent, or energy for a purpose. Your Soul's Home® is where you're best able to use your talents and energies towards your soul's purpose. Your Soul's Home® is an investment in YOU. Don't short-change yourself by prioritizing speculative profits over investing in you and your family. To be soulful, first understand the spiritual purpose for your new home. Is it to raise a happy and healthy family? Have space that allows and inspires you to create? Recharges you when you come home from work? Whatever that purpose is, your soul will want you to know your home will fulfill it before considering profits. This isn't to say that you shouldn't be mindful of money. On the contrary, your Soul's Home® will be in financial balance by leaving you enough to feed your soul in other ways and when you're ready to sell if you bought soulfully and sell soulfully, you'll have the best chance of profiting. Next week, we'll talk about Selling High Soulfully. In the meantime, if you'd like more about the Journey to Your Soul's Home®, click the link to my website because I'd love to see you there! On today's episode of “Buck Off with Christopher Renne,” I am joined, as always, by Jordan Williams to talk about Ohio State's offseason and we discuss the Buckeyes playing indoors. We begin the show with the huge recruiting BOOOM in 4-star OT Luke Montgomery of Findlay High School. Justin Frye showed immediate impact on the recruiting trail and we discuss the type of player Ohio State is getting in Montgomery. After that, we discuss Gene Smith's potential plan of having the Buckeyes playing their home playoff games in Lucas Oil Stadium. In a debate format that rivals the glory days of ESPN's First Take, Chris and Jordan do not agree on the reasoning for moving the game to Indianapolis. We then discuss how Gene Smith decimated the Alliance, and we get into why Alliance scheduling was never going to be beneficial for the Big Ten. Then we get into a discussion about the new potential media deals for the Buckeyes. We talk about the potential value the Big Ten brings to the table and why it will continue to be the most valuable media product in college football. Our final discussion, we discuss players gaining weight, the incredible Marvin Harrison Jr., and why a coach at Ohio State can't get a raise in a year he loses to Michigan. Home TV screens are getting bigger, yet phone-size screens are more and more becoming the place our eyeballs soak up entertainment. We talked today about which screens we're most likely to watch TV and movies on—theatre? television? laptop? iPad? phone? Where are you doing your viewing?
When Chive Media Group spun out its out-of-home TV business last year, co-founder and CEO Leo Resig said the structure should help the new company, called Atmosphere, raise venture capital. Looks like those fundraising efforts were successful, with Atmosphere announcing that it has raised $10 million in Series A funding led by S3 Ventures, with participation from Capstar Capital.
Episode 155 is money and it is not because Corey Graves had an affair with Carmela it's because we are joined by "The Weapon of Sass Destruction" Effy. Listener discretion is advised as The GreenMan is joined by Jimmy Jay from Take it Home TV and NY Stand-up Comedian Arron Kaplan. Together the three will attempt to cover this weeks wrestling news, review Raw and Smackdown before they get shit face drunk.
On this episode, we're going to take a look at local TV and out-of-home viewing—who's watching, the contributions they add to the overall viewing picture and how networks, advertisers and agencies should be looking at the evolving trends in the local and out-of-home viewing scenario. Our Nielsen guests on this episode include Gerardo Guzman, SVP Product Leadership, Justin LaPorte, VP of Local Audience Insights, Jenn Carton, Director of Product Leadership, and Gorki DeLosantos, Director of U.S. Media Communications.
