Filmmaker, Roger Corman, died peacefully at the ripe old age of 98, this May.  Known as "The Pope of Pop Cinema", or "The King of Schlock", he was a trailblazer in the world of independent film. Among the hundreds of features directed/produced by Corman, many were ultra-low budget films that later attracted a cult following, such as “The Little Shop of Horrors”  and “Death Race 2000”. Paradoxically, he simultaneously introduced prestige foreign “art” directors to US audiences like: Bergmann, Fellini, Kurasawa, Truffaut, and others. He gave many house hold name directors their first jobs: Francis Ford Coppola, Martin Scorsese, Ron Howard, Jonathan Demme, Peter Bogdanovich, Joe Dante, John Sayles, and James Cameron. He also launched actors like: Jack Nicolson, Robert DeNiro, Sylvestor Stallone, Peter Fonda, and many more. We dive deep into a remarkable 54 year career that dramatically shaped the global movie industry more than any other single person. In this episode, I talk about weight loss versus fat loss - the latter being what YOU say you really want.  And I share what it actually takes to successfully drop that stubborn fat despite the hormone changes and metabolic struggles of menopause.  There's certainly a nuance to doing it in a healthy way that lasts because it's much more complex than "calories in, calories out."  And if you're serious about wanting to lose weight for the way you look, feel, and for your health, a strategy for success MUST include what I share in this episode.  But be ready because... Before I spill the tea on what it takes, I call out the BS I so often hear and see.   So beware. This episode isn't for anyone who, Jack Nicolson said, "can't handle the truth." But if you're in that group of women who truly wants to change your lifestyle, it can be done and this episode if a great place to hear about how.  Remember... Join hosts Steven Pierce and Matt Mundy as we dissect this cinematic tour de force, alongside our esteemed guest, renowned actor Timothy V Murphy. Timothy's breadth of experience and unique insights are a boon to our exploration of this film's many layers - from its memorable cast led by Jack Nicholson, to its poignant storytelling, and intriguing political themes.Of course, we must toast  with our friends over at Misguided Spirits and Nick Miller at The Wolfhound in Astoria, Queens who mixed up our especially wicked cocktail for us today.today's cocktail:Nurse Ratch'ed1oz Misguided Gin1oz Dolin Genepy1oz Velvet Falernum 1oz Lime JuiceShake and strain into cocktail rocks glass, serve on rocks with cherry garnish...back in the episode, we delve into the complexities of Jack Nicholson's character, whose emotional arc leaves a profound impression. We grapple with the difficult choices faced by the characters, particularly those of Nurse Ratched, who personifies an enigmatic force of evil.As we wrap up the episode, we reflect on the tragic ending of 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest' and its ties to the turbulent Irish history of the early 20th century. Timothy also shares captivating anecdotes about the power dynamics within a theater company, and his thoughts on the politicization of the Academy Awards. As we bid our guest adieu, we ruminate on the movie's enduring relevance and impact, as well as its influence on the craft of filmmaking. Hello my friend! Ok, this one is one of my favorite subjects we have talked about yet! We dive into the important subject of ‘community'. We were created to be in community with others. HOWEVER, when we have community/friendship wounds, it can be so difficult to get back into a community or deep friendships. But there's HOPE. In today's episode I share a story of something so powerful that I witnessed last night, and how beautiful it can be when community and friendship works well.  We also dive into 3 steps to take when we are struggling.  Mentions: Galatians 6:2 “Carry one another's burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ.” Psalm 32:3 “when I kept silent my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long." James 5:16a “therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.” A Few Good Men, Jack Nicolson said “you can't handle the truth.”  I disagree. Yes, we can Jack. ;)  Also, if you haven't joined already, I'd love for you to join me inside the Spiritual Intentions Framework-12 Foundational Principles For Spiritual Growth When All Else Fails.  God bless you!  Much love, Dani Need a fun and actually doable step-by-step Framework for Spiritual growth in your busy life? I don't know about you but I love the movie with Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicolson titled The Bucket List.  The term you're familiar with I'm sure.  A list of activities, experiences or destinations you want to try or visit yourself before you kick the bucket.  It's a great concept but unfortunately it's not resonating with enough of us early enough.  Maybe you think it's something to do when you retire, which could be 15-25 years away - feels like a lifetime.   Maybe you have different priorities right now - and please note here that I did not say these priorities are wrong, just different - in that either you need to really focus on your career or work for better overall financial health, you're still raising your kids or have other health or family issues to manage. What I do know is that we may NOT have a lifetime.  We are not even certain if we even have 10 years or tomorrow.  We never know what's going to happen when so why create a bucket list for something you'll do some time in the future?Join me as I share my thoughts today on why you shouldn't wait any longer and why even creating your bucket list is totally lame.

Where did Remi Weekes come from, and why is he out of the gate, such an amazing horror director? That is the first question I have for this film. His House has instantly become one of my favorite horror movies. That may seem like hyperbole, but I have legit not seen anything like this film, and have rarely felt the same amount of emotion while watching a horror movie. (1:10) - Intro(5:30) -Trailer(7:53) -Synopsis(13:11) -Review(19:53) -Score(30:31) -Spoilers(1:29:17) -Horror or Porno(1:45:52) -Outro @dgoebel00 on Instagram provided this amazing artwork. Follow him and check out his website. https://youtu.be/DYY0QJhlXjc His House can be found only on Netflix. Synopsis Two Sudanese refugees Rial (Wunmi Mosaku) and Bol (Sope Dirisu) arrive in the UK after a perilous journey. After a stay in a detention center, they are granted asylum and a new place to live, which they are assured isn’t just a shit hole, it’s a palatial shithole. They are given a set of rules that all refugees are given to maintain their status, that being, they are only to live off the meager wage the gov’t provides and not seek employment, and to definitely not move away from their apartment. The couple who have definitely seen some shit… start seeing shit in the apartment. Soon it is apparent that there is an evil force preying on them. Review of His House Without hyperbole, this is one of the best horror movies I have ever seen. I’m reminded of my experience with Hereditary, where I asked myself, “How is this director so good on his first film and where did he come from?”. The main difference between Hereditary and this film, is that I don’t think I’ve ever seen a horror movie like His House before. Sure, at its core, it is a haunted house movie, but the aesthetic and subject material are uniquely new to me. The best horror movies in my opinion are those that have a human core, that focus on character and relationships while drawing a line to real horrors that people experience every day. Rosemary’s baby uses the fear of the unknown and social pressure during pregnancy. The Exorcist uses the terror of having an undiagnosable, severely sick child. The Shining uses Jack Nicolson. In this film, it uses the lived experiences of refugees of war torn countries and the trauma associated with it. This is exactly the type of storytelling that the horror genre excels at. It amplifies real human emotions and fears to the level of overload, resulting in a uniquely empathetic experience. I’m very excited to talk about this movie, and also excited to see what Remi Weekes, the director will do next.  Score 10/10 Go to http://manscaped.com/ and get 20% off + free shipping with the code: HMT #manscapedpod

Okay everybody - it’s time to class up this joint! Let’s talk CINEMA. Let’s discuss the least likely Mike Nichols’ film of all time, 1994’s WOLF with Jack Nicolson & Michelle “White Gold” Pfeiffer. And just to make sure we take it seriously, we’re joined by filmmaker & premiere YouTube video essayist, Patrick H. Willems!! Secure your monocles, cause they’re about to pop out of your eye!! Along the way, we ask if James Spader satisfies as a lover, we consider what was Richard Jenkins like as a baby, evaluate what it must be like for two of the biggest movie stars in the world to eat PB&Js on camera, and wonder if becoming a wolf is a solid anti-depressant. Plus, we surprise Patrick Willems with an extended discussion of Edward James Olmos’ wang! Also, we have a very urbane edition of Choose Your Own Death-venture and we pitch Sydney Pollack’s Invisible Man! Never fear - new episodes of Kill By Kill are made available every other Friday! Most recognized for his role as “Dollar Bill Spencer, Jr.,” on the CBS Daytime Drama, The Bold and the Beautiful, Don was also seen in the film Anger Management with Jack Nicolson and Adam Sandler and Marco Polo opposite Jack Palance.
