As I worked my way backwards through 3rd Wave Ska in the tail end of the 90's I started to appreciate it a little bit. Dabei hilft das digi­ta­le Arbei­ten durch sei­ne sofor­ti­ge Kon­trol­le und auch durch sei­ne »Duld­sam­keit«, die Feh­ler las­sen sich oft noch aus­glei­chen. Ande­rer­seits hilft die Pau­se zwi­schen Auf­nah­me und Bild, dem selbst gemach­ten Bild kri­tisch gegen­über zu tre­ten. Die eige­ne Inten­ti­on lässt sich deut­lich bes­ser mit zeit­li­chem Abstand beur­tei­len, ob wir sie näm­lich erreicht haben oder nicht. In den 1990er Jah­ren kali­brier­te ich lan­ge Fil­me und Ent­wick­ler. Inzwi­schen weiß ich um die Kon­trast­um­fän­ge und gebrau­che dies, mei­ne ana­lo­gen Auf­nah­men auf die Schat­ten zu mes­sen, so dass die­se durch­ge­zeich­net wer­den. Die Ent­wick­lung sorgt dann dafür, dass der Kon­trast­um­fang passt und die Lich­ter da lan­den, wo sie gebraucht wer­den. – Digi­tal belich­te ich eher auf die Lich­ter (»expo­se to the right«), auf dass die nicht aus­bren­nen. Mei­ne Nach­läs­sig­keit fiel mir auf, als ich neu­lich digi­ta­le Por­traits von 25 Men­schen in Fol­ge anfer­tig­te: Ich stell­te erst in Ligh­troom fest, dass ich bei einem Ter­min (von bis­her zwei­en) sämt­li­che Auf­nah­men um 0,4 Stu­fen reich­li­cher hät­te belich­ten sol­len. Kein Pro­blem in Ligh­troom zu kor­ri­gie­ren, aber ich hät­te die­sen Feh­ler ana­log nicht gemacht, weil ich mit mei­nem Blitz­be­lich­tungs­mes­ser alles vor­her aus­ge­mes­sen hät­te. – So blieb es bei einem kur­zen Blick aufs Rück­dis­play und auf das His­to­gramm. Was ich digi­tal aber ler­ne (durch die sofor­ti­ge Kon­trol­le oder auch in der Nach­be­ar­bei­tung), das kann ich sofort ana­log nut­zen. Was ich ana­log ler­ne, das hilft mir auch bei den digi­ta­len Auf­nah­men. Wer viel ler­nen möch­te, kommt ana­log wei­ter, denn das Medi­um ist weni­ger feh­ler­to­le­rant.
