In this special episode, contemporary artist Elsa James joins EMPIRE LINES live, navigating how the slave ship marks and haunts Black lives in Britain today, in their interdisciplinary exhibition, It Should Not Be Forgotten (2025).*Content Warning* This episode discusses rape and other forms of sexual violence.Seeking to capture ‘the rupture, erasure, fragmentation and interconnectedness of Black Life in the diaspora', Elsa James' latest exhibition brings together performance works, neon sculptures, and collage. Elsa confronts Britain's ‘national amnesia' regarding its role in the transatlantic slave trade, bringing alternative perspectives on how we engage with the past. The artist crafts fictional narratives to contend with colonial archival records, and delves into the psychological effects of enslavement, both exposing historical atrocities and honouring the resistance of two enslaved women. In this special episode, recorded live in Elsa's Afro Dada studio at Firstsite in Colchester, we journey through the larger-than-life photographic installation located on the main floor of the gallery, which draws inspiration from American academic Christina Sharpe, and her idea that ‘the slave ship marks and haunts contemporary Black life in the diaspora'. Elsa shares influences including Tina M. Campt, Steve Martin, and David Olusoga, and details her collaborations, including with sound artist Trevor Mathison, who worked with a field recording from a sacred ceremony Elsa attended during an artist residency at Yinka Shonibare's Guest Artists Space in Nigeria. Exploring ideas around Afropessimism, we talk about the role of critical hope in Elsa's practice, touching on the work of Alberta Whittle and Maya Angelou. We discuss Elsa's long relationship with Essex, as the first artist to exhibit in Firstsite's Living Room space as part of her Black Girl Essex residency, and solo exhibition, Othered in a region that has been historically Othered, at Focal Point Gallery in Southend-on-Sea in 2022. We explore recent group exhibitions including the Hayward Gallery Touring Acts of Creation: On Art and Motherhood, and transfeminisms at Mimosa House in London, developing her research into Mary Prince. Plus, Elsa describes the interconnectedness of her research interests, and Black British, Caribbean, and African heritages. This episode was recorded live as part of the public programme for Elsa James: It Should Not Be Forgotten, an exhibition at Firstsite Colchester, in July 2025.For more information, visit: instagram.com/p/DK-WsOPzeI3/Hear the first episode with Elsa James, Living in the Wake of the Lust for Sugar (2023), recorded at the Museum of London Docklands: pod.link/1533637675/episode/NTFiZDQxMjUtZDI2Ni00ODE1LTk1YjktOTM4NzNhY2YzOTBiFor more about the Guest Artists Space (G.A.S.) In this episode of The Startup Operator Podcast, Roshan speaks with Ronak Kumar Samantray, founder of Take Me to Space and former co-founder of NowFloats (acquired by Reliance). Ronak shares his journey from coding at age 10 to building satellites in his living room, and his mission to democratize access to space — letting anyone, anywhere, interact directly with satellites without the traditional gatekeeping. The conversation covers the evolution of space exploration from the 1960s to today, why private innovation has reignited interest, the economics driving launch cost reductions, and the mindset required to take on “mad” ideas. Ronak also explains Take Me to Space's products — Orbit View and Orbit Lab — and how they could make programmable satellites as accessible as personal computers once became. Whether you're a space enthusiast, a founder thinking about first-principles innovation, or just curious how a non-aerospace engineer ended up building satellites, this episode is full of inspiration and insight.

In today's connected world, corporate executives and board members live in a digital space that extends far beyond their company's networks. Chris Pierson, CEO and Founder of BlackCloak, explains how protecting leaders requires more than traditional enterprise security—it calls for securing their personal digital lives. The threat landscape for high-profile individuals includes everything from compromised personal email accounts and hacked home networks to deepfake attacks and targeted identity theft. These risks not only threaten the individual but can cause significant financial and reputational damage to the companies they represent.BlackCloak addresses this by providing digital executive protection—securing executives, their families, and their homes with a blend of technology, privacy measures, and concierge-level service. This includes monitoring and removing data from brokers, detecting threats in the dark web, safeguarding home IoT devices, and even protecting yachts, jets, and vacation properties. The company also acts as an on-call cybersecurity and privacy advisor 24/7/365.A key component is the BlackCloak app, which serves as a security dashboard and communication hub. Through it, clients can see privacy risks being addressed in real time, receive alerts, and contact their dedicated concierge team. Behind the scenes, deception networks and active monitoring provide an extra layer of defense.Pierson highlights the growing convergence of cyber and physical threats. High-profile attacks and incidents in recent years underscore the importance of integrating cybersecurity with physical security, particularly for executives who are constantly in the public eye. With AI accelerating both the speed and sophistication of attacks, organizations need to consider a holistic approach—protecting not only networks and devices but the digital personas of their people.Ultimately, Pierson sees this as part of a broader shift toward making security a lifestyle component for executives, much like comprehensive healthcare benefits. It's about creating an always-on layer of protection that travels with them—whether they're in the office, at home, or halfway around the world.Learn more about BlackCloak: https://itspm.ag/itspbcwebNote: This story contains promotional content.Learn more.Guest:Chris Pierson, Founder & CEO, BlackCloak | https://www.linkedin.com/in/drchristopherpierson/Hosts:Sean Martin, Co-Founder at ITSPmagazine | Website: https://www.seanmartin.comMarco Ciappelli, Co-Founder at ITSPmagazine | Website: https://www.marcociappelli.com______________________ResourcesLearn more and catch more stories from BlackCloak: https://www.itspmagazine.com/directory/blackcloakLearn more about ITSPmagazine Brand Story Podcasts: https://www.itspmagazine.com/purchase-programsNewsletter Archive: https://www.linkedin.com/newsletters/tune-into-the-latest-podcasts-7109347022809309184/Business Newsletter Signup: https://www.itspmagazine.com/itspmagazine-business-updates-sign-upAre you interested in telling your story?https://www.itspmagazine.com/telling-your-storyKeywords: Black Hat 2025, zero trust security, cybersecurity conference, ThreatLocker, default deny strategy, endpoint protection, application control, threat detection, enterprise security, network security, cybersecurity solutions, security automation, malware prevention, cyber threats, information security, security platform, Black Hat USA, cybersecurity innovation, managed detection response, security operations

With the start of the school year just around the corner, a new episode of the Raising Me podcast dives into a topic many parents are curious about—but may be hesitant to explore: homeschooling. In this week's episode, host Adrienne Stein sits down with Brooke Thompson, a homeschooling expert and mother of six, who shares her personal journey and professional insights as the President of HAVEN Homeschool Collective and the Vice-President of Maine Home Education Alliance. The conversation covers the basics of homeschooling—how it works, why some families choose it, and where to even begin if you're considering the path yourself. Thompson shares the joys, challenges, and misconceptions of homeschooling, offering guidance for parents who may be simply curious, overwhelmed, or just looking to better understand the growing number of families who take education into their own hands. Whether you're seriously considering homeschooling, mildly curious, or just want to know what it's really like behind the scenes, this episode provides valuable perspective and practical advice. Where does a thought go? An idea? A drop of inspiration? What does home mean for different people? What defines a sense of belonging? Again and again, time after time, she explored within herself and embraced what she loved the most: giving people a sense of what home is. She knew it was the right decision to transform herself from a generalist, to a specialist. Aside from her work, she shares her experiences of being Taiwanese American in Southern California, blending culture, identity, and creativity into every corner she encounters.

In this episode, we dive into the wild, wonderful world of Ron Bonk, an indie filmmaker and founder of SRS Cinema known for the cult horror-comedy House Shark. Ron shares his journey from studying accounting and criminal justice to becoming a self-taught director, driven by a passion for storytelling and a deep love for genre cinema. With no Hollywood backing, Ron used camcorders, community college equipment, and his own home as a film set to bring his visions to life. House Shark began as a joke about roof noises and turned into a full-blown production that he wrote, directed, and shot over a year. His philosophy? Use what you have, stay true to your weird ideas, and don't be afraid to break the rules. He talks about the challenges and joys of indie filmmaking, how crowdfunding works behind the scenes, and why authenticity matters more than perfection. As Ron puts it, “You tell people whatever they need to hear in order to keep shooting.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/bulletproof-screenwriting-podcast--2881148/support.
Pruning To Prosper - Clutter, Money, Meals and Mindset for the Catholic Mom
Bible verse for the summer declutter series: Ephesians 5:14-17 Join me this summer to declutter your home while praying the rosary. It's not just any rosary, it's a motivational rosary to walk you through decluttering the designated area of your home for the week. Here's how it works: Grab your trash bag and a donation bag, pop on this week's podcast episode and get to work! Each week we will focus on one area of your home. It will probably not be enough time to declutter the entire area, so I encourage you to replay that episode every day that week to keep the progress going. Each Wednesday will be a new podcast episode and a new focus area. You won't even need a rosary, just listen and pray along! However, if you are curious about the rosary or would like to learn how to pray it on your own time, here is a great resource for learning. A Guide to Praying the Rosary Grab a friend and hold each other accountable. You can also join the private Pruning To Prosper Facebook group and find a buddy here: Facebook Group Not on social media? I will be hosting free and live zoom gatherings once per month to get to know you and for us to encourage one another along our summer declutter journey. Please sign up here to receive your monthly newsletter. (Check junk mail too.) Monthly Newsletter Sign Up I do offer 1:1 virtual coaching for $77/hour, however, summer hours are very limited. In 1977, The Combahee River Collective, a group of Black American feminists issued a statement communicating the harrowing following: “The psychological toll of being a Black woman…can never be underestimated. There is a low value placed on Black women's psyches in this society, which is both racist and sexist. We are dispossessed psychologically and on every other level and yet we feel the need to struggle to change the condition of all Black women.” Almost 50 years later, we have a book that responds to this important group's felt need. Foluke Taylor's Unruly Therapeutic: Black Feminist Writings and Practices in Living Room, delivers an archive of Black feminisms that are leveraged to explore certain psychoanalytic truths. This ambitious trajectory is however delightfully embedded within a text that also includes the potential of musical accompaniment: she prompts us to tune into Billy Paul, Sault, Norman Connors and many other musicians. Read Taylor and turn up your speakers: let your senses rise and fall, clap and hum. The book depends in part on the author's personal reflections that in their tenderness, read, at least to my ear, as rather different from auto theory. Indeed, Taylor seems not to be embracing a tributary of critical theory through which she then allies herself. Rather there are aspects of her history that beautifully accompany and highlight what is a heart-rending treatise about the lay of the land traversed by Black women who seek to train to become clinicians and by Black women who come to lie on the couch, a terrain that can be unduly rough, distorting, dangerous. Chapter by chapter, Taylor is conducting a chorus of Black feminist thinkers, women with whom she works in ongoing movement to transform and trouble what subjugates and suffocates the lives of Black women. A clinician herself, she places a special emphasis on the practice of psychotherapy, demonstrating how it can participate in deadly, racist repetitions. The book has an interior design that reminds me of the way one might arrange furniture in a room, a living room as it were. There are bolded quotes, in the upper right hand corner perhaps or the bottom left, demanding attention. Sometimes the same quote is reproduced more than once in a chapter. These quotes are the equivalent of textual wall hangings that live on the page. They take on a physicality, almost like an ottoman by the reading chair, a place to stop and stay put, feet off the ground. I experienced them also as obstacles: I had to consider them in order to move forth. Taylor's voice is intimate and readers are assumed into a position, dropped into her mind at times mid-sentence: a thought is forming and we are there for its birth. She offers radical hospitality, breathing us into being. All who create life, she reminds us, must breathe for those they carry forth. This she also does. The voices of African feminists were new to me and reflective of her having left London for ten years to seek her origins in Africa, looking for her place in the world. This is where her sharing of her early life is put to powerful use as she wonders with bell hooks, with Hortense Spillers, hardly alone, yet alone, “where do I come from?” This question is one that belongs to all people whose lineages have been truncated by enslavement. Tracy D Morgan is the founding editor of New Books in Psychoanalysis, and works as a psychoanalyst in Rome, Italy and Brooklyn, NY. Learn more about your ad choices. What if the most powerful place to disciple your daughter isn't a classroom, a church, or a camp—but your own living room? In this practical and heartfelt episode of the Raising Godly Girls Podcast, hosts Rachael Culpepper and Melissa Bearden invite you to recenter your family life around God's original design for discipleship: one that starts at home, in the rhythms of everyday parenting. In a culture where spiritual formation is often outsourced to Sunday school or youth group, Scripture calls parents to be the first and most enduring voice of truth in their children's lives. But let's be honest—between laundry piles, dinner prep, and constant to-dos, that kind of intentionality can feel overwhelming. Today's episode encourages you to shift your mindset, embrace holy interruptions, and trust that God is present and powerful in your home—even in the mess. You'll hear honest stories about motherhood, homeschooling, and discipleship through dinnertime devotions, tough conversations, and the daily chaos of real life. Rachael and Melissa unpack how Deuteronomy 6 isn't just theory—it's a roadmap for forming your girl's faith through consistency, curiosity, and connection. You'll leave this episode reminded that you don't need to be a trained theologian to raise a girl who knows, loves, and lives for Jesus. In this episode, you'll discover: Why your home is the most formative place for faith and worldview development How to transform ordinary moments—like bedtime, car rides, and family meals—into discipleship opportunities Practical, age-appropriate tools to help your girl own her faith, ask big questions, and grow in Biblical literacy Encouragement for busy moms feeling the weight of spiritual responsibility—and the grace to know God works through your willingness, not your perfection How American Heritage Girls supports and amplifies home discipleship through Christ-centered community Scriptures Referenced: Deuteronomy 6:6–7 – “Impress [God's commands] on your children…” Mark 10:14 – “Let the little children come to Me…” Proverbs 22:6 – “Train up a child in the way she should go…” Explore more resources to raise girls rooted in Christ at raisinggodlygirls.com. Today, Onward Delivery's CEO and founder, Grafton Elliott, tackles the fragmentation in oversized freight, why brokers remain essential in this evolving space, and what the NMFC code changes mean for large and bulky logistics! Grafton breaks down how Onward's middleware solution bridges brokers and local carriers' TMS systems without competing with either side. With parcel models proving unfit for bulky freight, the shift toward workflow standardization and broker-led coordination is crucial, especially as technology now enables this sector to match the speed and visibility of parcel services. As Grafton puts it, the timing couldn't be better to rethink how big and bulky gets delivered!
