This week, I was pleased to be joined by Jessica Dizmang, the Owner/Operator of the ONLY three franchised Ben & Jerry's locations in Colorado, with scoop shops located in Fort Collins, Denver, and Boulder. Her father had a career in corporate franchising, with a stop at Ben & Jerry's, and made her aware of an opportunity in Boulder. She was a fresh college graduate, and very not inclined to work at an ice cream shop - but a couple months later, in March of 2002, she became part-owner and operator of the Pearl Street Ben & Jerry's location.23 years later, Jessica has developed a three-piece set of thriving locations on the Colorado Front Range, each with an empowered team. In 2024 she was named the Operator of the Year, and we explore her many lessons and learnings from along the journey. And - she's a LoCo Think Tank member! Don't miss Free Cone Day, April 8 at Ben & Jerry's locations around the nation, and please enjoy, as I did, my conversation with Jessica Dizmang. Phil Pelto is the Co-Founder of Firestorm B2B Networking and Certus B2C Networking - The Power of Network Effect & How to Build Authentic Connections, both with an increasing number of chapters and members across the Colorado Front Range. Phil Co-Founded Firestorm while he was working as a suit salesman in Minnesota nearly 15 years ago, scaled rapidly and expanded to Florida, and then hired a professional manager to operate the business while he moved to Germany to pursue a girl he met at Oktoberfest. The manager crashed the business while Phil was winning the girl - which Phil considers a net win - and years later restarted the concept after moving to Colorado. Phil were only barely acquainted before this podcast session, and we kinda dork out on the whole B2B membership organization experience. We've got a lot of overlap in the way we do things and why, yet we serve different audiences for different reasons - LoCo Think Tank members are primarily business owners and there to work ON the business, and Firestorm members include some owners but more often professional sales people, and they are there for strategic partnerships, education, and referrals. Phil has had a very interesting journey and he's got a lot of big plans for the future, so I hope you'll tune in and enjoy - as I did - my conversation with Phil Pelto. Today on episode 43 I'm happy to have Chris Weidner, a long-time Colorado Front Range local, writer, husband, and father. This conversation is special to me for unexpected reasons. Chris is shockingly frank in many aspects of this conversation in ways I couldn't have imagined. I really thank him for that, and I hope you will enjoy this truly fascinating discussion about his life, climbing, family, and career. Dana Shino is a professional psychic and metaphysical journalist (B.A. Journalism, Indiana University 1993) working out of Durango, Colorado in the heart of the southwest. She has been channeling since 1987 -- but her psychic gifts weren't identified until 2001 by a co-worker. Since that time, her life has dramatically transformed from a traditional path to an indescribable journey into the esoteric realms of consciousness and energy work. In 2006, Shino moved from the Colorado Front Range to Durango, Colorado and established The Purple Phoenix, a company providing the practical application of metaphysical and psychic information and tools to clients. Shino bases her business and work on the philosophy that "We're all psychic, we're all intuitive." She helps individuals learn about, manage and tap into their own psychic and intuitive gifts through her energy session work, newsletter writings, podcast interviews, workshops and tele-seminars. Dana Shino has written a monthly column, "Practical Psychic Tools" for the Durango Herald, she's been featured in local publications, and speaks intermittently at local events. In 2009, Shino released "Are You Really Psychic? Yes!" a practical psychic tools audio program. She will be releasing her book, "When Elephants Fly - a personal, intuitive account of living the convictions of intuitive truth" this year. Shino likes to think of herself as a professional psychic who is actively shedding the myths about psychic work and making the genre accessible to the general public. She is a proponent of teaching others to move beyond the limited three-dimensional world of fortune telling and into the multi-dimensional world of co-creating with the rich potentials of the universe. - www.thepurplephoenix.com******************************************************************To listen to all our XZBN shows, with our compliments go to: https://www.spreaker.com/user/xzoneradiotv*** AND NOW ***The ‘X' Zone TV Channel on SimulTV - www.simultv.comThe ‘X' Chronicles Newspaper - www.xchroniclesnewspaper.com ******************************************************************
Rundown - Greg Gold in Craig's Lawyers' Lounge - 04:36 Ken Toltz - 01:17:09 Troubadour Dave Gunders - 02:19:44 "A Sun Still Shining" by Dave Gunders - 02:25:45 Craig's Lawyers' Lounge went to Krakow, Poland to catch up with accomplished Colorado personal injury lawyer, Greg Gold, who has gone to Eastern Europe to battle tyranny and Putin. Speaking after touring Auschwitz, and right before he heads to Lviv, Ukraine to drop off supplies, Greg profoundly discusses eastern European history and current distressing events. Along the way, Greg discovered Rudolf Miczka, a sharp 27-year-old proud Polish native, historian, and tour guide. We get to know Rudolf too, as the Friday sun set on Poland, Ukraine's neighbor to the west. We puzzle out next moves and whether America is handling situation well. Further east Friday evening was our Israeli correspondent and former Colorado Front Range politico and columnist, Ken Toltz. We remember when Ken ran against Tom Tancredo for Congress in 2000. Ken, now writing for the Jerusalem Post, has a firm grasp on politics in Colorado, America, and the Holy Land. Ken explains the view of America and Putin from Israel. Dave Gunders also travels this week, to the foreign feeling city of New Orleans for JazzFest. Our Troubadour discusses his beautiful song named A Sun Still Shining. After a rough week of losing stocks, ongoing bombardment of Ukraine, and Norm Early departing this mortal coil, we need to see a sun is still shining.

Endurance News: Ten Swimming Myths Debunked and Revisited Years ago, I wrote an article debunking 10 of the most common myths I know of in the sport of swimming. Today, I want to revisit those myths (some are still prevalent) with my thoughts about them in 2019. Myth #1 To go faster in swimming one must push out the back of the arm pull Depending on where the swimmer puts the emphasis on the pull and how energetic the two parts of the body rotation are, the peak force of the pull can occur in the front quadrant, just in front of the shoulder, back quadrant behind the shoulder or at the end of the pull, pushing out the back. Swimmers can definitely increase their distance per stroke (DPS) by pushing longer and harder out the back, but it comes at a cost by slowing the stroke rate (SR). The relationship between DPS and SR is crucial. The multiple of both determines a swimmer's speed. Pushing out the back may increase a swimmer's speed (particularly in events longer than 50 meters), so long as the SR doesn't slow too much. Thanks to Pressure Meter technology, I have learned that the peak force during the propulsion phase of the pulling arm occurs at different points, depending on the technique of the swimmer. The peak force of the pulling arm is profoundly influenced by the coupling motions, as well as the strength of the arms. The coupling motion of body rotation occurs at two different times separated by about 2/10 of a second. The peak shoulder rotation velocity occurs first, as the recovering hand enters the water, and the peak hip rotation velocity occurs later, as the pulling hand finishes the pull and exits the water. What's New in the 303: Fountain Colorado, Bike Racing meets the Plains As populations and traffic grow along the Colorado Front Range, putting on road bike races has become increasingly difficult. Barry Lee and Sanitas Sports have turned some of their attention south towards Colorado Springs and the Eastern Plains. About a dozen or so miles east of the town of Fountain, about halfway between Colorado Springs and Pueblo, at the county school serving kids from all over El Paso County, the GROOVE Fountain Bike Festival was born in 2021. Now in its second year Kirk Hanna Park serves as headquarters, parking and warm up space for the two day event. Hopefully in the future there will be some live music and possibly camping options and said Race Director Barry Lee, “maybe even combining a weekend with a gravel / community festival such as Hanover days with the popular tractor pulls. Memories of my roots where I went to these as a kid in central Texas.” With quiet roads, rolling hills and majestic views of Pikes Peak and the distant Sangre de Cristo mountains, riders tackled a time trial on Saturday and road race on Sunday. Said Barry, “a couple of years ago Donna and local Rocky Mountain Tri club members took me out there to train on a 40 mile loop. I always find myself looking for routes to offer a selective, mixed rolling terrain that suit a more all around type rider and this area has perfect roads for that.” With infinite views from every direction, 303 Ambassador Sasha Underwood echoed Barry's vision and said, “they changed the course slightly this year, for the better in my opinion! In the middle the course, they put us on a mile or so stretch of dirt and I loved it! It was a perfect dirt road and was just the novelty I needed for a change of pace, challenge and scenery.” She continues, “The volunteers were awesome, the course, competitive but inclusive atmosphere, especially amongst riders. The group I was in included Collegiate Woman A and B, Cat 3, 4 and 5. We were a chatty bunch this year during the first half and there were a lot of first-time and second-time racers in the group.” XTERRA USA Championship Rotates to Colorado The 21st annual XTERRA USA Championship off-road triathlon will be held in conjunction with the new family-friendly and community focused weekend of events in Avon, Colorado on July 15-17, 2022. It's the first-time XTERRA has hosted its national championship in the Colorado Rockies, following 12 seasons at Snowbasin Resort in Utah (2009-2021) and eight years in Incline Village, Nevada (2001-2008). There will be $25,000 in prize money awarded equally to the top 10 elite men and women, plus XTERRA USA Championship crowns to age group division winners along with 51 qualifying spots into the 2022 XTERRA World Championship to be held in Trentino, Italy on October 1. FORM Goggles Experience Two athletes I coach started using FORM goggles and recommended them to me. I picked up a pair and they are really helpful when you are doing a workout. What they are How they help What they cost Overall assessment Upcoming Guests 3/25: A'nna Sewall of Athlete Blood Test and Jordan Jones of Powder7 Andy Potts and Daniel Brienza of APRacing Chris Schwenk about cycling and Zwift and his intimate knowledge of it and I think it would fun to share his love of indoor cycling, but also outdoors and his upcoming trip across the US. Calling it the worst drought since the year 800, climate scientists say that climate change is largely responsible. The ground is so dry and the air is so warm, that even full and above average snowpacks in the mountains will not be able to erase the water deficit, particularly runoff into the Colorado River. Find out how this weather situation is already impacting your diet.

Doors open at 5:30pm each night. The FBI found no evidence of coordination between people at the Capitol on January 6th. The officer who killed Ashli Babbit is cleared of any wrongdoing. Kim notes that eyewitnesses reported that there were instigators for violence in the crowd and the crowd did not respond. The founding of America is based on the principle that all men are created equal. Lindsay Moore, candidate for School Board District #20 (northern half of Colorado Springs) wants to “conserve” this principle. It is our duty to take control of local boards in order to stop the anti-American assault that our children experience every day. LEAP, Learning Enrichment and Academic Progress, which would be run by an unelected, unaccountable “Authority” is another big government program to take control of our children. LEAP is not the proper role of government and must be defeated. We must set our children up for success by teaching them the basics of reading, writing, arithmetic, science, history and critical thinking skills. Lindsay congratulates those who stood at Douglas County School Board headquarters protesting the mask mandate. To learn more about Lindsay and assist in her campaign visit: lindsaymooreford20.com. Kimberlee Bell, owner of Kunjani Coffee, updates us with special events, including Friday night live music and Saturday lessons learning to play chess. Thursday through Saturday, Kunjani is open until 9:00pm with happy hour from 4-7pm. Visit Kunjani's website to learn more: https://kunjanicoffee.com/. Bob Boswell, CEO of Laramie Energy, joins Kim to discuss current events and its influence on energy. Bob thinks it is ironic that Biden closes the Keystone pipeline and then asks OPEC to produce more oil while at the same time giving the green light for Russia's Nord Stream 2 which provides oil for Germany. Obtaining federal and state oil and gas leases and permits is proving difficult, including here in Colorado. Renewable energy is a supplement, not a replacement. California will now build natural gas plants to bring “energy stability” to the state. Additionally, power lines have not been maintained, causing more energy chaos for California. The state of affairs in Afghanistan will influence energy policy in the Middle East and come to the shores of America. It has been reported that $1-3 trillion of rare earth minerals are in Afghanistan, a key ingredient for electric vehicles. People forget that fossil fuels are affordable, efficient, abundant and reliable for our cars and for our homes. China has the highest fossil fuel emissions in the world at 14.3% of global emissions as a result of dirty coal production. Saudi Arabian Oil Company is ranked second with Russia coming in at number three. China spent more than $65 million in the U.S. to influence foreign operations, per Open Secrets. Elections matter, there are consequences. Lincoln said: “The ballot is more important than the bullet.”

Hey, listener! Welcome back to Rewildology where we explore conservation, travel, and rewilding the planet. I'm your host, Brooke Mitchell-Norman, conservation biologist and world traveler. I have a question. How did this past year turn out for you? Was it full of struggle, maybe even heart break? What did you do with your circumstances? Did you make lemonade out of lemons? Or are you still trying to find the beauty and opportunity in this global shutdown? No matter how the past year turned out for you, you're going to relate to this week's guest, Sheridan Samano. Sheridan is the co-founder and owner of Reefs to Rockies, a boutique travel company that specializes in creating the best nature and wildlife itineraries. Her goal is to give her clients the greatest nature experiences of their life while having as little impact on the environment as possible. I know that you all are well aware that COVID completely crashed the tourism industry, and we explore what it was like for her to almost lose her business. Sheridan is the perfect example of “embracing the suck” as Brene Brown would say and created something beautiful out of her new situation. Sheridan is an avid birder and in her newfound downtime, she wrote a book called “Best Birding Hikes – Colorado Front Range“ and continued to grow her popular MeetUp group, “Birding and Beers”. Sheridan drops life bombs throughout the whole conversation and I'm sure she'll impact you just as much as she impacted me. We met at her favorite birding spot outside of Boulder, Colorado to record this episode. So you'll hear some lively birds chirping in the background and a few airplanes flying over head. If you're liking the show, please be sure to subscribe so that you can be notified when a new episode drops. I'd really love to hear what you think by leaving a review on wherever you're listening or commenting on Rewildology's YouTube channel. We are Kate and Natasha, nice to cyber meet you! In our very first episode we discuss our moves to Colorado and some history of the mile-high region. Though we aren’t natives, this mountainous region has become our home. Colorado is a gorgeous state! We live in Fort Collins, a continually growing community along the Colorado Front Range and Cache La Poudre River. Colorado officially became a state on America’s 100th birthday, rightfully claiming the name Centennial State. Centuries ago it was inhabited by Anasazi cliff dwellers, and then Native American tribes. Spanish explorers arrived in the 16th century and started an exchange between the two. Their economic relationship evolved and even the Catholic Church got involved in exporting. Many more explorations took place over the next two centuries as colonization expanded. Following more decades of politics and bloodshed, statehood became an option for what is now Colorado. Black suffrage postponed this process as the 13th amendment was recently passed and Black Americans still didn’t have equal rights. Colorado voted in strong majority to exclude allowing suffrage of African American citizens. Fortunately, the federal government wouldn’t budge on this and statehood took place, black suffrage included. Although Colorado has voted democratic in the past three elections, its political history and current status is much more mixed than we realized before moving here. Elected officials and representatives continue to be a variety, although Colorado has been in the leading states on several liberal movements, like marriage equality, environmental efforts, and access to cannabis. Listen on iTunes, Spotify, or wherever you stream, to hear about our experiences moving here. From being shamed for our non-Native status, to the abundant outdoor activities, our Disney World awe at cannabis dispensaries and more! Listen carefully for our fun, near-death experiences that are only fun because we didn’t die. Thank you for taking the time to listen. You can find us on Instagram at HoldMyUmbrella and we hope you stay tuned for our upcoming episodes where we talk about sexism in comics, the concept of soulmates, our journeys of self-confidence, and a slew of other women-oriented topics. See you soon friends.
In this episode, we talk about the crazy weather that is hitting the Colorado Front Range at the moment (including ash falling from the sky like rain), and then go on to talk a little about how our family celebrates the Roman Catholic Liturgical Calendar. We are looking forward to saying "hello" to you by email: CatholicHitch@gmail.comThe intro and outro songs are used under a licencing agreement, and licensed for use on this podcast; they are both by one of our favorite bands: Estradasphere.
Curt Bear is the Founder of LoCo Think Tank in Fort Collins, Colorado. His business creates small business owner peer advisory chapters at an affordable price, by matching growth-minded members with give-back focused business veterans in the role of LoCo Facilitator. Curt started this business in 2014 as he attempted to navigate from a career in small business banking to a restaurant venture - that never got off the ground. During two years in mobile food, and two more as an investment and insurance representative LoCo grew steadily as a side venture. In 2018, Curt went full-time LoCo, and in the time since he and his small team have grown LoCo Think Tank to 9 chapters in Northern Colorado with service offerings for all stages of the small business journey. They have expansion plans along the Colorado Front Range and beyond, and are growing at over 50% per year. Curt is a self-described abundance-minded Husband, Adventurer, Christian, Foodie, Freethinker, Rotarian, and Libertarian.
Welcome to the Episode 2 of The Watercourse! My guest today is Chelsea Panos (twitter.com/chelsea_panos), an expert on the stormwater impacts of infill development. What is infill development? It's a nationwide trend of creating more housing in a smaller footprint, so that more people can live closer to cities. Chelsea explains how you might have seen old neighborhoods get converted from small, single family homes with big yards into high density apartment units. What do those changes mean for stormwater management? We're here to find out! In this interview from September 2019, Chelsea teaches me about how infill development affects stormwater runoff and what the city and developers can do to mitigate negative impacts. *Pre-listening resources* Stormwater Primer: youtu.be/LMq6FYiF1mo Bioretention Primer: youtu.be/LiNd2ZaYS2k Infill Development Article (NY Times): nyti.ms/2ZxM6eN Climate Change and Stormwater (Medium): bit.ly/3d0K0YY *Post-listening resources* doi.org/10.1038/s41467-020-15376-9 doi.org/10.1080/23789689.2020.1754625 Also check out Panos et al. Air Pollution, Possible Solutions (start time: 2:36) It is ubiquitous and essential to our life. It it is also the cause of some 7 million premature deaths around the world every year, ranking just behind diet, cancer and tobacco as a health risk. That's the air we breath. Beijing, New Delhi, and London are among the smoggiest, but the Denver metro area isn’t faring so well either. Yet many countries and cities have taken positive steps that have dramatically reduced emissions, from vehicles, smokestacks, crop and animal production, and other sources. Our two guests today have been researching air pollution—its sources, impacts and solutions--and they share their insights and data with How On Earth's Susan Moran and guest host, journalist Jason Plautz. Beth Gardiner, an environmental journalist based in London, authored the recently published book Choked: Life and Breath in the Age of Air Pollution. And Dr. Frank Flocke is an atmospheric scientist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research, and an author of a major study of air pollution sources on the Colorado Front Range. Decades ago, more than 300 planes crashed into the Colorado Front Range over a two-year period. The wreckage of these planes and many others can still be found around Colorado's rugged terrain. Today, hunting these sites down has turned into a hobby for an adventurous few. Written by: Lance Benzel & Dave Philipps Hosted by: Spencer McKee
Welcome to episode #43 “Pursuing What You Love”. In this episode I get to chat with LeninaOlivas. Lenina was born in Southern California. She received her MA inPolitical Science from the University of Colorado in 2010. About three yearsago, Lenina started painting and made the shift from Political Science toartist. She has exhibited her work along the Colorado Front Range and her homestudio is located in Loveland, Colorado. Her work has been reviewed inProfessional Artists Magazine and is currently on display in the Colorado StateCapitol. She has also been a featured guest on The Reset Podcast with FranklinTaggart. In 2018, she became the Gallery Director at the LincolnGallery. She is actively involved in her community, adopted a highway inLoveland, serves on the board of the Loveland Art Studio Tour as the Secretary, the board for Art In The Park, and is a member of The Artist Collective. Prior to becoming an artist she was a figure model and worked with a variety of artists in the surrounding states. She felt that being a model helped her to connect with artists, find the right art instructor, and understand the art world. Lenina didn't set out to become an artist but she was called to it by the beautification and joy it brought to her life. In this episode we chat about Lenina’s shift from Political Science to artist and what happens when you decide to listen to what you really want in life. Then, what happens when you start pursuing what you love. Her work can be purchased at the https://www.facebook.com/TheLincolnGallery/ (Lincoln Gallery) and Rabbask Design in downtown Loveland. Her wine series collection can be found at the Sweet Heart Winery in Loveland and at Blue Mountain Winery in Berthoud. Tour de France organizers boasted that the 2019 route was the "highest Tour ever" — does that mean it will be exciting for fans? We analyze the mountainous route and debate whether they should have included more time trial kilometers. Also at the Tour presentation, race director Christian Prudhomme had some strong takes on power meters — he thinks they should be banned from racing! Is that right? Does he even understand how they work? We discuss. If you live in the Colorado Front Range (or close enough to drive) come out to VeloSwap on Saturday! Fred and Spencer will be there checking out all the cool vintage bike gear: www.veloswap.com
