Today Dr. Andrew Hill from Peak Brain LA joined us to talk about all aspects of brain health. He deals with all manner of neurological dysfunctions in some very unique ways. Here are some of the brain issues he deals with, focus, attention, creativity, traumatic stress, mood, sleep, migraines, hyperactivity, rumination, impulsivity, perseveration, seizures, alcohol recovery, test preparation, concussions, and traumatic brain injuries. Here are some of the unique tools and protocols he uses to reverse some of these issues Quantitative EEG "brain mapping" assessments, neurofeedback training, heart rate variability biofeedback, and mindfulness meditation. In today's talk with Dr. Andrew Hill we discussed addiction and how to deal with addiction. Is it possible to completely reverse somebody's addictive behaviors? Dr. Hill says yes. We also discussed the impact of sports and concussions. Did you know there have been studies where high school football players are already showing signs of traumatic brain injuries? It's pretty scary. We also discussed the role of games, websites like Luminocity and playing games like chess and bingo can help the brain. Dr. Hill says that these games don't necessarily help which was quite interesting. If you are having any kind of brain issues, Peak Brain LA is the place to visit. Thanks for listening. This month Luminocity is spotlighting Heal Charlotte, holistically addressing real issues in Charlotte, one community at a time.Founder, Greg Jackson, shares how the police shooting of Keith Lamont Scott in September 2016 changed his life. Shortly after the shooting, Greg showed up with others to protest the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department at its headquarters the day after the shooting but says a crucial conversation that day changed his trajectory, leading to the formation of Heal Charlotte. In addition to helping community members with food distribution, emergency housing, and youth development, Heal Charlotte is now embarking on their most ambitious project to date by launching a $10 million capital campaign to transform a neglected motel into an affordable housing campus on Reagan Drive. They believe this is chance to tackle the systemic inequities perpetuated by the city’s affordable housing crisis. By acquiring and managing their own property, the willl be able to centralize and expand their operation in order to serve a larger population. In addition to housing, the future Heal Charlotte campus will provide residents with food, ongoing mentorship and case managers to assist in transitioning out of the facility. We're doing time stamps now? How F.A.N.C.Y. 0:00 - We kick things off with hot takes about pomegranate juice and other awful concoctions that only fools and children would make, like blackcurrant and milk, and apple juice with orange juice. There's also a combination that only Kris's brother would make, and you'll find out about that in this section too. 2:50  Then it's off to the UK Games Expo at Birmingham's NEC for “the best convention I've been to” according to Peter, and the first part of our report from the show floor. First up it was By Fire and Sword, a teeny tiny historical wargame that looked like amazingly complicated fun. 14:20 - Then it's on to Wreck & Ruin, a post-apocalytpic vehicle combat board game that is a) pleasantly surprising, b) very accessible, and c) looking for your money on Kickstarter right now. 17:30 - There's a quick excursion by Kris to Lumino City, which pretty quickly gets wrapped up in a conversation about... 20:38 - … Pokémon Quest on Nintendo Switch, and the subject of mobile gaming in general. Does it matter which device you play a game on? Sam seems to think so, and he's probably right. 29:45 - This is where we head back to Brum for even more of the expo and “one of the darlings of the show” - the astonishingly plucky Burrows & Badgers from Oathsworn and Osprey Games. 38:30 - We're pretty disillusioned with comics at the moment, but there are a few stand outs that we've been carrying on with, and none is more important than Barrier from Brian K. Vaughan, Marcos Martin, and Muntsa Vicente. 45:41 - We round out the show with the last leg of our UK Games Expo tour and the acquisition of the pretty wild 1989 pen and paper classic Batman Role-Playing Game, from Mayfair Games. It sounds as good as you think it sounds. So pull up a chair and join Kris (@DigitalStrider), Peter (@XeroXeroXero), and Sam (@MrSamTurner) for the latest episode of our nice little hang out sessions where we talk about all the neat things we like. Show host Chris ORegan chats to Katherine Bidwell, the director of State of Play Games the maker of Lumino City. The reappearance of point of click adventure games has been a welcome one and there is a veritable plethora of titles that have appeared over the past five years and Lumino City is a welcome addition to this style of game.
