The debut LP of Wax Trax sleaze peddlers extraordinaire, My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult, is the subject of this month's commentary podcast. Between the duo of Buzz McCoy and Groovie Mann getting in on the ‘darkened 60s psychedelia' angle years before it went mainstream, to their placement within Wax Trax and industrial music overall in the late 80s, to the more restrained (and dare we say tasteful?) sounds which crop up in the band's early work, there's plenty to discuss.

This week's show kicks off our annual celebration of Gothtober in a grand way! Your favorite fiends welcome local Atlanta goth legend Matt Spatial from Now After Nothing who provides us with some tunes that show a true appreciation of the grim and ghastly! That's right, everything turns grey as they once again explore the dark and ethereal world of Goth Rock…What is it we do here at InObscuria? Every show Kevin opens the crypt to exhume and dissect from his personal collection, an artist, album, or collection of tunes from the broad spectrum of rock, punk, and metal. Robert is forced to test his endurance and provide feedback, as he has no idea what he will be subjected to every week. Our hope is that we turn you on to something that was lost on your ears, or something you've simply forgotten about, or that (in our opinion) should have been the next big thing.Songs this week include:Bauhaus – “Sanity Assassin” from Sanity Assassin - Single (1983)Astari Nite – “Tongue Tied Galore” from Resolution Of Happiness (2024)Switchblade Symphony – “Bad Trash” from Serpentine Gallery (1995)Curse Mackey – “Lacerations” from Immoral Emporium (2022)Al1ce – “Wide Awake” from The Thirteenth Hour (2018)Now After Nothing – “Fixation Fantasy” from Artificial Ambivalence (2024)If you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/Check out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://twitter.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/InObscuria?asc=u

Filmmaker Dustin Ferguson and pinup model Tamera Von Tart joined Mark In studio for a terrific show featuring 2 people who followed and are living their dreams Dustin is from Nebraska and started out making fanedits of horror classics such as the Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies (and agrees with Mark that TCM: The Next Generation is an underrated classic). He soon began making videos for industrial bands such as KMFDM, Lords of Acid and My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult and shooting his own movies such as Meathook Massacre, Horndog Beach Party and his biggest film Nemesis 5, which inspired his move to LA. He hasn't stopped, filming an average of 8 movies a year including the upcoming Robowoman and Killer Tomatoes reboot as well as pursuing his rap career as Dirty D. which has also caused a lot of controversy and discussion. Tamera grew up in Florida and was inspired by the timeless and somewhat naughty fashion of Bettie Page and, despite being a single mother, pursued her dreams of being a pinup model. The road went through Washington, where her tattoos surprisingly weren't well received and Hot Topic, where she was chastised for being too bright, then ending up living in a pink house and hosting shoots for such luminaries as Masuimi Max. She also became a regular at the Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Festival and on magazines and websites worldwide.

Yabba Dabba Doo! We couldn't let the summer end without covering a ridiculous summer blockbuster, and The Flintstones is most certainly that. The Steven Spielberg-produced, live-action adaptation of the 60s cartoon has to be seen to be believed. It's got gaudy caveman sets and costumes, John Goodman hamming it up as Fred Flintstone, and a wild soundtrack... Good lord, the soundtrack. One half of this album features awkward attempts at caveman humor by the likes of The B(C)-52s, Big Audio Dynamite, and Us3. The other half is a bizarre collection of Flintstones novelty songs that predate the movie. And most of the tracks on this album feature artists or songs we've covered on this show already, including return appearances from Weird Al Yankovic and My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult. But there are definitely a few gems in here, so join us as we rock out to The Flintstones! He is the vocalist of industrial supergroup, Pigface, Grim Faeries, Evil Mothers and one of the members of My Life with the Kill Thrill Kult. He recently launched his debut album, "Instant Exorcism," featuring an appearance by Ronny Moorings, founder of the iconic darkwave band, Clan of Xymox. Mackey's participation with other projects include Ogre of Skinny Puppy, Martin Atkins of Ministry/Killing Joke, EN Esch of KMFDM, Genesis P-Orridge of Psychic TV, Danny Carey of Tool, David J of Bauhaus. Mackey filled in for goth legend, Peter Murphy who was unable to perform at the sold-out 40 years of Bauhaus Celebration Show in Orlando. His most recent collaboration is with Beauty in Chaos' founder, Michael Ciravolo. American Alt-rock supergroup, Beauty in Chaos' has an upcoming new album, "The Storm Before the Calm," produced by Ministry's Grammy nominated producer, Michael Rozon, to be released this spring 2020. In this album, Beauty in Chaos pairs up with Curse Mackey for the driven rock anthem "A Kind Cruelty."Mackey is a special guest at Industrafest 2020 opening up for Belgium's industrial pioneers, Front 242. It was almost 30 years since I had last seen the band perform. I caught them early on in their career and have been a fan ever since. Groovie is one of the nicest rock stars you're likely to ever meet. He always stays after the shows and visits with fans and signs items. Thrill Kill Kult are veterans of the industrial, electro-rock scene and have been incredibly influential on many other bands. The band was one of the lucky few to be a part of the now-legendary Wax Trax Records! The band released a new album this year entitled "In The House Of Strange Affairs". Groovie gave me the scoop on recording this album as well as his take on the music business, touring and so much more.

The underground vet brings Chicago's industrial music to Berlin techno. //  Growing up in the house music capital of Chicago, one might not expect Karl Meier to make the sort of abrasive industrial techno found on his debut album as one half of Talker (with Johnathan Krohn). But as he tells Rave Curious, the city's industrial scene—famous for the Wax Trax! label, home to Front 242, My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult and local legends Ministry/Revolting Cocks/Pigface—had just as much influence as the house heroes like Derrick Carter, DJ Sneak and DJ Heather. The result so far has been a single album for esteemed UK techno imprint Downwards in 2014—not bad for Meier's first release after years working record counters at places like the mythical vinyl emporium Gramaphone. That album lead to key gigs at Berghain and Berlin Atonal Festival, compelling Meier to take the next obvious step and relocate to the German Capital the next year. The Rave Curious podcast caught Meier on his first official U.S. tour to find out how a dance music veteran can go from nearly unknown to underground headliner status after decades of DJing. We also try to make nice with Chicago after dissing the Windy City hard on the recent Boom Bip episode.

Jacob tries to keep the guys from talking about boobs for the week. It didn't last long. It didn't take long for them to talk a lot about Winona Ryder's boobs. They talk about learning Spanish. Ryan complains about school. Jacob educates him on the movie Strange Brew. They argue about Lethal Weapon 2 a little bit. While many feel comfortable using canned or frozen Electro as their soup base, Destroyed For Comfort prefers to whip up their Electro from scratch, using fresh ingredients. We go heavy on the samples and are not afraid to spice things up in an unconventional way effects-wise, while mixing in traditionally enjoyed flavors like analog synth and 8-bit sounds. Fronted and founded by art-school dropout r*23 (Rani Bakr), DESTROYED FOR COMFORT utilizes both found sound and real-time synthesis to create stompy, noisy, sample-heavy 8-bit hacker-punk that never sounds quite the same way twice, or ever. Disorienting sonic textures and mangled vocals set the tone, complementing surprisingly danceable beats. Performances frequently include backup dancers and projected animation. Interested in meta-meme reprogramming and cheap beer. We'll play in your backyard if you ask us nicely enough. DESTROYED FOR COMFORT has been honored to share the stage with a veritable who's who of independent and experimental electronic music over the past decade, including (but not limited to) acts like Author And Punisher, Bozo Porno Circus, CeVin Key, Cry Blood Apache, The Emotron, Eric Archer, Femme Fatality, I Cactus, Juiceboxxx, Krista Muir, Ludivico Technique, Malekko, Martin Rev, My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult, Otto Von Schirach, Peelander Z, Realicide, The Subliminator, Talmadge D'Amour, and Yip Yip. DESTROYED FOR COMFORT has also performed remix work for Houston Bernard, Suicide God Pill, and Christopher Anton, with more to come soon. DESTROYED FOR COMFORT has devoted several of their performances to benefits for non-profit, activist, and relief services such as the SIMS Foundation, Locks Of Love, The Livestrong Foundation, the Green Party, Anti-Racist Action, and the ACLU, as well as relief efforts for Katrina victims and the citizens of Darfur. We've also performed at benefits for independent music venues and the Texas Rollerderby jeerleader team Bomb Squad. The movement, the progression of thought. An unlimited outlook on the possibility of becoming whole. We communicate the view of the world as it is, what it has been, and what it could be with a true understanding of what it is to be free. Not an illusion of freedom. We are not free, we are all oppressed, oppressed by the history of humanity. Emily's Gone Mad has over time progressed changed and re invented themselves time and time again. We epitomize the idea of forward motion. We are not boasting to be arrogant we merely say this to inspire to an uncompromising principle to evolve to a perfectly chaotic conclusion. Emily's Gone Mad a band with an idea. Change our world express an idea of forward motion. This is who we are. NO genre. NO clique. Just music. A free expression of our hearts our minds, and our views of the world we live in. Nothing in art, music, literature, or life is unique. It is the idea behind the art that is the only thing unique. All chords have been played all things have been painted, everything has been written, we are all repeating what we know. The only way true uniqueness can be found is through exploring all avenues. That's what Emily's Gone MAd does. "We hold to nothing, but our will to explore. We mean what we write we live the life we have been given." Emilys Gone Mads Music is a solid expression of this mentality Emilys Gone Mad wraps their social views into an electric synth rock that has become EGM's signature sound. With over four albums written and two released their sound has evolved into a sound that is unique and distinct. EGM is a hark back to the core root of what Gothic,Industrial, Punk, and Glam was with a love of technology and all that it can achieve in music.
