Do you suffering from Witzelsucht (an obsession with groan-worthy puns and jokes)? Preschool teacher Mosa Maxwell-Smith tingles with glee when people roll their eyes at her puns, wondering how she might extend that thrill to the bedroom. Driven by loneliness, she bravely attends a live /Augmented reality sex party and meets Van, a thoughtful, compassionate person who helps her explore new territory: flogging, their shared organizational kink, paronomasia-related memes and Mosa's burgeoning boundaries. #SelfCareIsSoxy #VirtualWorld #Kinkshamed #Brattiness #BestFriendsDay Song: ‘Fever Dream' (mxmtoon) About the Storyteller: When Mosa Maxwell-Smith first discovered storytelling she craved it so much that she started hosting story parties with friends in her living room. That was 2011, before the Moth was even in the Bay Area. She is elated by the explosion of storytelling as an art form and connector of humans over the last decade, and has been privileged to perform regularly at a variety of venues, including Story Slam Oakland, the Mill Valley Library, and (always a favorite) Bawdy. She also tells stories on a daily basis in her role as a preschool teacher (though the content is usually slightly different and the audiences smaller). Mosa is a devotee of connection and serendipity and is grateful to Dixie De La Tour for bringing more of both to her life through the gift of Bawdy. She is always delighted to be out past bedtime on a school night, telling stories to someone other than her cats. Episode links: https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/pun: The pun, also known as paronomasia, is a form of wordplay that involves exploiting the ambiguous meanings of words, typically of homophonic (similar sounding), homographic (identically spelled), metonymic (same meaning) or otherwise figurative nature, for humorous or rhetorical effect. Welcome to June 8th, 2022 on the National Day Calendar. Today we celebrate polka paradise and pals who are the perfect fit. Not many people have made a career out of playing an accordion. But then again, most people aren't Weird Al Yankovic. Since he burst onto the music scene in the early 1980s, Yankovic has been poking fun at other musicians. And while they made names for themselves with electric guitars and drums, Al did it his way—with kooky lyrics and his trusty accordion. The instrument isn't exactly cool, but it gives a distinct sound and, as Weird Al put it: “It's great, especially if you're a solo accordion act. You can get a whole lot of really cool sounds out of it and basically be a one-man band.” June is National Accordion Awareness Month, a perfect time to polka or dive into Weird Al's discography. Most of us choose our friends because they like the same things we do. But best friends aren't necessarily our twin. Take Bella the Labrador retriever and Bubbles the elephant. This pair met at Myrtle Beach Animal Safari after Bubbles was rescued from Africa. Their unlikely friendship was featured in the movie Ace Ventura II and even a Janet Jackson Video! What makes these two so special is their love of water. They can be found splashing around, playing catch and cuddling afterwards. And while your bestie might not double as a perfect leather sofa, On National Best Friends Day, be sure to show them love for being the perfect fit in your life! Hey there! Remember that time we all ran away to the big city to play golf and exorcize teenagers? Neither do we, but it sounds like a sweet dream. Find out what sorta BMX tricks we'd have pulled together in this hypothetical scenario when you donloyd and listen now! Up first! It's 1980's Times Square! The third film in Kevin Moss's continuing series exploring the runaway teenagers of the 1980s, this one's got marquees-a-plenty and a supporting turn by Tim Curry portraying none other than Johnny LaGuardia, famed fictional NYC radio DJ. The soundtrack's chock full of bangers from top to bottom, but does the movie thrill us? !Next up! There's very little exorcism and absolutely no teenagers in 1991's Teenage Exorcist, but that can't stop us from reviewing it. It's a Fred Olen Ray production, after-all, and Parker Bowman's got priorities when it comes to enjoying every instance of a leather bikini-clad Brinke Stevens whipping Eddie Deezen in a demonic basement scenario. Finally! Of course, it's 2004's 3-Iron (aka Bin Jip). It's the Korean romance film that you just KNEW we'd review some day - and the day is here. Is it a Sean pick, though, or does it not feature any baffling stretches of surreal silence? Is it even about golf? All this plus the trouble with cicadas, a cricket's jihad, Kevin wants his classic Jughead doll, a weirder looking dude than Paul Giamatti, being unfair to Jim Van Bebber, casting out demons on Skype, Siskel v Ebert: a heavyweight title match, extended musical interludes, nerd news and even more! It's National Best Friends Day. How many best friends do you have? Can you have more than one?
Chatting today with animal care team members Anjanette, Mariah, and Ruben. It's National Best Friends Day! Have you heard of the term "Bonded Pairs" before? At Valley Animal Centers, a few of our animals are considered bonded pairs and are in need of adopters who are ready for the joy of adopting two pets instead of just one. There is a range of what it means to be a bonded pair. A bonded pair can be two animals who have been with each other for a very long time. They can be each other's best friends and companions. It can also mean they can't function without the other. If two animals are tightly bonded, separating them can cause anxiety and depression. Listen to the podcast to learn more about bonded pairs!
