Der so sanftmütig wirkende Komponist aus Bern, der mit feinsten Klangschattierungen faszinierte und mikrotonale Reibungen aushörte, der auch jähzornig aufbrausen konnte - am 30. November würde er seinen 100. Geburtstag feiern. Eine Hommage. Erst relativ spät konzentrierte sich Klaus Huber aufs Komponieren, nachdem er jahrelang als Lehrer tätig gewesen war. Nach einem Geigenstudium bei der berühmten Stefi Geyer und Kompositionsunterricht bei seinem Götti Willy Burkhard verwendete er schliesslich für seine eigenen Werke verschiedene Techniken der Avantgarde, wandelte sie aber zugleich ab und schnitt sie auf seine eigene Klangsprache zu. Hubers Leben ist mit seinem Œuvre eng verbunden. Er komponierte etwa zu drei seiner wichtigsten Beziehungen zu Frauen jeweils eine «Gründungsmusik». Trennung von Werk und Biografie? Fehlanzeige! Seine Geliebten Regula von Sparr, Susanne Bitter und Younghi Pagh-Paan sind in diesen Werken denn auch auf unterschiedliche Art und Weise präsent, sei es durch ihre Co-Autorschaft, durch die Klangfarbe oder durch eine bestimmte Kompositionstechnik. Auch politische Zäsuren und Prozesse inspirierten ihn zu Musik: Die Revolution in Nicaragua zu seinem Opus Magnum, dem monumentalen Oratorium «Erniedrigt - Geknechtet - Verlassen - Verachtet...» (1975-1983). Und der zweite Golfkrieg war der Auslöser für seine Beschäftigung mit arabischer Musik ab 1991, was ihn seine Faszination für die Dritteltönigkeit entdecken liess. Huber interessierte sich zudem für Spiritualität und Mystik, seinen internationalen Durchbruch hatte er denn auch mit seiner Kammerkantate «Des Engels Anredung an die Seele» (1959) geschafft. Unter anderem solche Wechselwirkungen zwischen Leben und Werk beleuchtet die Musikwissenschaftlerin Corinne Holtz in ihrer neuen Biografie über Klaus Huber «Welt im Werk» (Schwabe Verlag, 2024). Sie ist Gast in der Sendung und erläutert im Gespräch weitere Einzelheiten zu dieser Ausnahmeerscheinung der Schweizer Musikgeschichte.

Audio Blog Last month, I paid into Microsoft Game Pass because Starfield was coming out and I am a fan of Bethesda games. Similar to Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed series, the Bethesda games are the same game with different coats of paint. It’s an entire genre of paint, but still guns for bows and arrows, space for wastelands.. I dig it. Sadly, that game was made with top of the line hardware in mind and mine is not. It’s stupid, but it is what it is. Hell, it isn’t even what I want to talk about today. Since Starfield was out, I stuck around with Game Pass to see what else they had, and saw that Lies of P was on its way. I downloaded it, played it for about 4 – 6 hours, and promptly uninstalled it because I can’t stand Souls Games. First, I need to clarify that this isn’t a situation of ‘getting good’ – I enjoy a lot of tough gaming genres… hell, I will play a Rogue-like until my eyes won’t dialate without seeing Dead Cells or Hades characters. Even ‘2-d Souls-Likes’ and I am a demon possessed. I am the kid who beat Mike Tyson on the Nintendo (I did, I swear). But, put me in front of a Souls-like and I am a raging he-beast of gaming ineptitude which sucks because they almost all are in worlds I want to play in. Dark and grimy fantasy, please. The rooftops of feudal Japan, gods yes. A Steampunk dystopia filled with gearwork police, stick it in my veins. And yet, the idea of learning the location and timing of a dozen villains through try and die, learning the attack and block strats for a series of enemies, and doing the constant struggle to get to where you were before to figure out how you died to not die again and I have never ever come closer to taking my controller and hurling it through a window. So, after those 5 hours, I uninstalled Lies of P, disappointed that there is yet another game that I won’t get to learn the secrets of because it is made with a type of gamer in mind that I, in fact, am not. It’s shocking how every part of those games seems to be painted with me in mind and yet, somehow, their unforgiving relentless need for near perfect leaves me going back to installing Opus Magnum and Human Resource Machine… you know, actually hard games. (I kid.. kinda) Oh, and Lies of P was playing on Ultra, suck it Starfield.

Nur eine Woche bleibt Heinz Strunk, dann muss er das erste Kapitel seines neues Romans bei seiner unerbittlichen Verlegerin Elisabeth von Stein abgeben. Doch egal wie sehr er sich auch bemüht - ständig funkt der tägliche Wahnsinn ihm dazwischen. Jeden Tag versucht der Autor Heinz Strunk aufs Neue, sich auf die Arbeit zu konzentrieren. Denn der neue Roman soll nicht weniger als sein Meisterwerk, sein Opus Magnum - in Literaturkreisen auch ehrfürchtig “Blauwal” genannt - werden. Doch ihn plagen schwere Zweifel, ob es ihm überhaupt noch einmal gelingen wird, an den kommerziellen Erfolg vom “Goldenen Handschuh” anzuschliessen. Und wäre das nicht schlimm genug, wird er ständig in seiner Konzentration gestört: Sein aufdringlicher Nachbar Wingolf Mahselschlag (Olli Schulz) will nichts lieber als sein Freund sein, der kauzige Café Besitzer Karsten “Hähnchen” Hahn (Bjarne Mädel) bedrängt ihn mit seinen Lebensweisheiten und sein langjähriger Wegbegleiter Bertram Leyendieker (Charly Hübner), zwingt ihn abends bei der dritten Flasche Rotwein einen selbst entworfenen Alkoholiker Fragebogen zu beantworten. So kann man nicht arbeiten! Aber die gesetzte Deadline sitzt dem Romancier gnadenlos im Nacken. Wenn bis Ende der Woche das erste Kapitel nicht endlich bei seiner Verlegerin ist, dann kündigt der Verlag ihm den Buchvertrag. So weit darf er es auf keinen Fall kommen lassen!
