High-quality Early Intervention services begin by providing professionals working with infants, toddlers, and preschoolers with up to date, evidence-based practices that are developmentally appropriate, engage families and empower partnerships for learning across settings. In this episode of Leading from the Floor, your hosts provide you with strategies, tools, and resources to ensure that your staff, partners, families and providers are equipped to succeed. We will also hear from a parent leader whose son was diagnosed with a moderate hearing loss and her experiences with both P3D and her mentorship journey. By taking the concept of professional development and coupling it with adult learning principles, you can build a solid foundation and empower the adults in each child's life.

In this episode Nicnac talks of a frantic string of continuous P3D flights mostly over The Pacific between California and Australia and ending in Toyko before they finely took a full-fledged 24-hour rest. They note their attempts to comply with FAA rest regs even in the sim because fatigue is just as much of a factor in the sim as it is in real life (though real-life consequences are more real). Nicnac states their support for carrying more than 2 crew members on any flight longer than 4 hours. Nicnac talks about sim flight tracking software and hopes that Mr. Davies may be able to find a way to hand off projectFly and allow users to export without contacting support. Nicnac has been using Voltanta backed by Orbx since December 2020 and is looking forward to premium. Nicnac ends by talking about The Flight Sim Association and FSExpo and how their feelings about both have grown more positive and appreciative based on the fantastic webinars. Donate Contact Simply Magpie Show Notes In this episode, Nicnac reviews the lessons from their virtual 15 hour and 9-minute trek from Monterey CA to Oshkosh, WI including the details of the final 3 legs that culminated in a botched landing onto rwy 9 at Oshkosh. They review their virtual flying skill limits and the limits that consumer flight sim technology and flight planning software place on their virtual flying style. They reassert their belief that X-Plane 11 and P3D currently stand as the most authentic simulators on the market from a General Aviation IFR and airliner perspective. Although, they continue to hope that MSFS will get better with time. They are also holding out hope that version 12 of X-Plane will be announced soon and include an ortho system similar to MSFS. Nicnac recognizes that there are many types of flight sim users out there and emotions can run high. They are working on being less harsh on those that have all their eggs in the MSFS basket when they can. They understand this mentality, although they don't share it. Nicnac ends by thanking all flight sim developers who are passionate along with their fellow AVGeeks and the real-world aviation community for trying to put up with AVGeeks when possible. Nicnac wishes everyone attending a happy Airventure 21! They hope to go one year! Show Notes In this episode, Nicnac tracks their difficult journey towards Oshkosh in The TorqueSim SR22 and default DA40NG for Microsoft Flight Simulator. They talk about each leg, Monterey to San Carlos, San Carlos to Grand Junction, Grand Junction to Boulder, Boulder to Ainsworth, and Ainsworth to Mankato. They talk about why they are setting aside MSFS again and sticking with XPlane for GA and P3D for Airliners. Although they do note some progress on the part of Working Title and PMS. They plan to continue checking in on the platform periodically. Although they are putting their North Atlantic trip on indefinite hiatus (the legs are too long in The SR22), they are really enjoying increasing their continuous US skills along with playing with XPlane ortho scenery and learning the best paths through the many US mountain ranges. They hope to work back up to VATSIM or POSCON and be skilled enough in The SR22 to try flying into Oshkosh for Simventure 21. Hi everyone! I have been talking about P3D, POWH.io, and FOMO3D for about a month or so now to anyone who will listen. I have suffered many eye rolls at what a fool I am to be taken in by this OBVIOUS ponzi… but I persisted. I wasn’t going to let close minded thinking shut me down! I thought it was an exciting project and experiment. Hopefully you guys agree! It was good to hear Kingsley’s perspective, as he is the bringer of P3D to me, as well as one of my first Bitcoin friends. Preston was a great skeptic, and was chosen for his tweet a few weeks ago around when P3D was popping. Petros brought in the dev perspective. Josh was a bit skeptical, but def intrigued. Where did we end up after the convo? I don’t know, but it was a cool exploration! We also had on Sharon from Chicago Blockchain Project. Check out the conference this weekend Aug 24-25! I can’t wait to perform, and I know I have some cool panels with some other neat music/blockchain projects. The vibe in Chicago is awesome, and I love Navy Pier, especially the ferris wheel! It’s Martyn Lee here with the news you need to know about electric cars and the move towards sustainable transport. NEWS IN BRIEF: * Tesla Model 3 cumulative production has now exceeded 50,000 according to the Bloomberg tracker, which has a bit of lag but has proven a close estimation * The Dutch city of Delft is the first city worldwide to have an electric vehicle charging station equipped with a pole that holds an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). * Ask Autoline is a one hour Q&A with John from Autoline about that Tesla Model 3 teardown and more from Sandy Munro LONG RANGE NISSAN LEAF E-PLUS COMING IN 2019, WILL HAVE 200 HP The next Nissan LEAF now has a confirmed name - the E-Plus Autoguide for the scoop: "The long-range Nissan Leaf, which will arrive for the 2019 model year, will get a boost in power and will be called E-Plus, the Japanese automaker has confirmed to AutoGuide. Speaking at a special event promoting the automaker’s upcoming Formula E race program, Nissan’s director of EV Marketing and Sales Strategy, Brian Maragno, revealed some details about the anticipated long-range Leaf. Maragno said the larger battery Leaf will receive the ‘E-Plus’ badge and will get a boost in power over the 40 kWh version. The 40 kWh Leaf is rated at 142hp, but the long-range model will have 200 hp on tap. " AutoEvolution say: "At the EVS29 electric vehicle convention in 2016, Nissan let it slip that it’s working on a 60-kWh battery. In all likelihood, it is this battery that we’ll find in the E-Plus, shadowing the capacity and range of the entry-level version of the Tesla Model 3." https://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2018/07/long-range-nissan-leaf-e-plus-coming-2019-will-200-hp.html https://www.autoevolution.com/news/new-nissan-leaf-version-coming-in-2019-confirmed-to-be-called-e-plus-127125.html JAGUAR LAND ROVER HAS PARTNERED WITH PLUGSURFING "Jaguar Land Rover has partnered with Plugsurfing to supply a premium charging service for its electric vehicles in selected markets in Europe. Drivers choosing an all-electric Jaguar I-PACE performance SUV will be given free access to the Jaguar Public Charging app, whilst Range Rover or Range Rover Sport plug-in petrol-electric hybrid (PHEV) customers can download the Land Rover Public Charging app for free. Both apps easily locate 70,000 charging points and pay for the charging session. Customers will also receive a universal charging card that allows them to use most charging points across Europe. Through the apps, Jaguar and Land Rover electric vehicle drivers can see whether a charging station is available or occupied. Drivers can choose to rapid charge before reaching their destination or charge at normal speed upon arrival." "There are two packages on offer - a fixed monthly fee or Pay As You Go. Each package, which includes the universal charging key and app download information, is available through the Jaguar and Land Rover retailer network. https://media.jaguarlandrover.com/news/2018/07/plugsurfing-puts-jaguar-and-land-rover-drivers-road-easier-charging PORSCHE TAYCAN: ORDERS FOR BRAND'S FIRST EV ALREADY BUILDING "Customers have begun ordering the Porsche Taycan, the firm’s first all-electric vehicle, despite the production version of the car not even being revealed yet, UK managing director Alexander Pollich has said." and according to Jim Holder writing for Autocar: "Order books opened earlier this month, with Pollich confirming that customers were keen to reserve early cars despite the car only being revealed as a concept - called Mission E. He did not confirm order numbers, however. The production car is expected to be revealed for the first time in 2019, ahead of hitting roads in 2020." "The Taycan sits on a new architecture, named J1 by Porsche. The brand's first EV will feature 800V charging technology that is intended to future-proof the car for several years after it hits the market, and company officials have already confirmed it is designed to enable fast-charging to 80% of the car’s range in just 15 minutes." TESLA HIRING SPREE IN JULY "Several months ago, Tesla went on a massive hiring spree as it geared up production, marketing, and customer touchpoints for accelerated deliveries of its more-affordable Model 3" according to Joshua Fruhlinger at thinknum.com: "Then the company let go of 9% of its workforce in an effort to make things a bit more efficient as it came under fire from all angles as it struggled to deliver cars. So it is with an equal mix of fascination and trepidation that we report that Tesla is embarking on another hiring spree. On July 1, 2018, the company listed 1,662 openings. As of yesterday, the company has 1,974 open positions. That's a jump of 19% in just over 2 weeks." Whereas layers of management seemed to be the focus of the previous reduction in workforce, these openings are sales or customer facing. 85 of the positions advertised are for Customer Experience Specialist. https://media.thinknum.com/articles/tesla-hiring-activity-jumped-19-since-july-1/ MODEL 3 DUAL MOTOR AND PERFORMANCE VERSIONS ARE NOW EPA-RATED On Monday of this week the Model 3 Performance and Dual Motor, or P3 and P3D if you like, were officially rated by the EPA which opens the door for those cars to be delivered. Fred Lambert at Electrek says: "The EPA has now confirmed that both the Performance and non-Performance Dual Motor versions have a 116-MPGe rating with 120 MPGe for city driving and 112 MPGe for highway driving. As for the range, they both get officially rated at 310 miles on a single charge, like the Long Range rear-wheel-drive version, but the dual motor Model 3 vehicles officially have an efficiency of 29 kWh per 100 miles versus 26 kWh per 100 miles for the single motor version." https://electrek.co/2018/07/17/tesla-model-3-dual-motor-performance-versions-official-epa-ratings/ COMMUNITY YouTube comments You can listen to all previous 183 episodes of this podcast on iTunes, Google Play, Spotify, YouTube, TuneIn, Stitcher, and the blog https://www.evnewsdaily.com/ – remember to subscribe, which means you don’t have to think about downloading the show each day, plus you get it first and free and automatically. Well good morning, good afternoon and good evening, wherever you are in the world, hello and welcome to the Sunday 15th July edition of EV News Daily. It’s Martyn Lee here with the news you need to know about electric cars and the move towards sustainable transport. POLESTAR 2 ELECTRIC WILL DEBUT AT GENEVA TO TAKE ON TESLA MODEL 3 On yesterday’s show I was reviewing my day at the Goodwood Festival Of Speed, where not only did the Polestar 1 make it's world debut on track, but also the time I spent with the production car on their stand. Clearly it lacks some green credentials because it's got a 2 litre petrol engine tied to those electric motors, albeit a very respectable 70 miles pure EV power. "The Polestar 2 will debut at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show as Volvo’s now standalone brand delivers an electric saloon car aimed at the Tesla Model 3." says Cars UK.net: "the Polestar 1 is only Polestar’s opening salvo, and every future Polestar will be a pure EV, starting with the Polestar 2 which, according to Evo, will debut at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. Polestar say they want to pitch their offerings somewhere between Tesla and Porsche, but the Polestar 2 looks to be an electric saloon car built on Volvo’s CMA platform (the one underpinning the XC40 et al) and have a price range of £35-50k. Which seems like it’s aimed straight at the Model 3." Evo reports: "Polestar will certainly pursue its focus on driving dynamics with the Polestar 2, the company intent on positioning itself as an EV performance car brand that can deliver to customers who aren’t excited by the current crop of stylish and safe Volvos. Speaking to evo at the 2018 Goodwood Festival of Speed, Polestar’s chief operating officer Jonathan Goodman revealed his intention that Polestar cars will always be ‘great looking cars that add a dimension, as far as Volvo is concerned, because they’ll be designed as driver’s cars" http://www.carsuk.net/polestar-2-electric-saloon-will-debut-at-geneva-to-take-on-tesla-model-3/ ELON MUSK’S TALKS TO BLOOMBERG ABOUT LEARNING FROM MODEL 3 PRODUCTION Simon at Teslarati has picked out some key quotes from the Elon Musk interview with Bloomberg: "It’s been super-hard. Like there is for sure some permanent mental scar tissue here. But I do feel good about the months to come. I think the results will speak for themselves. To the best of my judgment, I do not think we have any future bet-the-company situations. We will still need to work hard and be vigilant and not be complacent because it is very difficult just to survive as a car company. But it will not be the same level of strain as getting to volume production of Model 3”. com were also picking one their highlights: ""We were huge idiots and didn't know what we were doing," Musk said in a recent interview with Bloomberg, referring to the massive production delays resulting from an over-reliance on robots on Tesla's assembly line. Musk and his team made a big bet that automation would help Telsa make more cars in a single month than it ever had before, only to have robots repeatedly fail, forcing the company to halt the entire production process to fix the problem. It's like you just took all the highways away from L.A. or something. Part of the problem is that the designing heads were naive about manufacturing," Musk said in the interview. "Just because we have something that works great in a simulation does not mean that it works great in reality." NEXT-GENERATION RENAULT ZOE EXPECTED IN 2019 – UNVEILING THIS FALL? "There is a fair chance that this fall we will see the second-generation Renault ZOE (maybe at the Paris Motor Show in October)" reports Mark Kane for InsideEVs: "According to French sources, Renault will be retooling the Clio and ZOE factory in August to double the production output of ZOE to 440 copies a day from September on. First, Renault intends to introduce the next-generation Clio and it’s expected that in 2019 the all-new ZOE will hit the market. The Renault-flagship BEV potentially will be longer and bigger, but the battery pack (41 kWh) and electric motor (R110) are expected to remain the same at initial launch at least. The new feature will be DC fast charging using CCS Combo." https://insideevs.com/renault-zoe-2-expected-2019-unveiling-paris/amp/ LEXUS BOSS WARNS EV PUSH COULD BE TOO SOON "Fully electric car technology is not ready for mass adoption, and nor is the environmental impact fully understood, Lexus president Yoshihiro Sawa believes." that's according to Jim Holder who's found this story for AutoCar: "Speaking at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, which he is visiting for the first time, Sawa confirmed that the firm - in conjunction with parent company Toyota - is working on all types of powertrain, including full EV and hydrogen, but said that it would not leap into the market until the customer and environmental benefits were clear." He said: "“Pure EVs currently require a long charging time and batteries that have an environmental impact at manufacture and which degrade as they get older. And then, when cells need replacing, we have to consider plans for future use and recycling. It is a complex issue - much more complex than the current rhetoric perhaps suggests. I prefer to approach the future in a more honest way. If we are looking for the best solution it is my opinion that the best solution is not only EV; we must consider petrol, hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fuel cell. If we focus on EV only we will not provide the answers people need.” https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/motor-shows-goodwood-festival-speed/lexus-boss-warns-ev-push-could-be-too-soon NEW YORK EPRIX: DI GRASSI WINS, VERGNE CROWNED CHAMPION Alex for motorsport.com reports on Formula E in New York: "Audi’s Lucas di Grassi won the first race of the New York Formula E double-header on Saturday, as Jean-Eric Vergne was crowned champion despite starting from the back of the grid." TESLA WANT YOU TO BUY A PERFORMANCE MODEL 3 Tesla might not be anti selling the Model 3 now, but they are Upselling it. Elon Musk himself took to Twitter yesterday urging reservation holders to take the P3D for a test drive even if they weren’t planning on just getting the standard long range battery; he said "Whether you plan to buy a Dual Motor Performance Model 3 or not, take it for a test drive anyway. It’s like having pure fun jacked straight into your brain whenever you want. Plus he had news for the upgraded parts: "Performance version suspension is 1cm lower & has stronger brakes in upgrade package" COMMUNITY Tweets and YouTube comments. Well good morning, good afternoon and good evening, wherever you are in the world, hello and welcome to the Thursday 12th July edition of EV News Daily. It’s Martyn Lee here with the news you need to know about electric cars and the move towards sustainable transport. MINI ELECTRIC LOOKS ALMOST READY Let's talk about the BMW Mini! I had a petrol one for a year in 2008, black, petrol bags of fun even not the Cooper variant. Around that time before I was interested in EVs there was the original Mini E, it was a pilot program and is now discontinued. I'd have another Mini tomorrow as they're great for British roads, small enough to park and big enough for long journeys. So fast forward 10 years and I'm excited about the Mini EV. Carscoops says: "Our sneaky shutterbugs have caught the prototype (both inside and out) undergoing testing out in the wild. The prototype was also spied plugged in to the mains in a dedicated EV charging/parking spot. And the grille is all covered up, suggesting that there’s no internal-combustion engine inside. So unlike the Countryman PHEV, this prototype clearly isn’t a hybrid." Carscoops has 14 pics of the mini in yellow swirly camoflouage and I'll put a link in the show notes so you can see, but they do have just one of the inside. The dash has black cloth covering it, another sign they're getting close. There are three extra screens of test equipment, one that looks like a computer monitor on a large box on the passenger seat with two smaller screens about the size of an iPad mini stuck to the dash. In the footwells of the passenger side are a mass of wires. And how about this, you know on a bus or coach or train, you see those metal hammers often behind glass, with a sign which says "in case of emergency, break glass and smash window to escape"? I can just see one of those taped to the drivers door next to the handle...so are the windows either locked up or are the electric windows disabled? Either way I think it's a sign they're getting closer to production. Meanwhile, India Times reports: "BMW Group and the biggest Chinese SUV brand, Great Wall Motor, announced a partnership Tuesday to produce electric MINI vehicles in China as global automakers ramp up development under pressure from Beijing." Auto brands in China are required to make electric vehicles at least 10 percent of their sales starting next year or buy credits from competitors that exceed their quotas. Later, they face pressure to raise those sales in order to satisfy fuel efficiency requirements that increase annually. The last I heard, Western markets will have the Mini EV made here in the UK in Oxford but given the disastrous process of Brexit and trying to untangle British manufacturing from a tariff free customs union, we're really worried that car markers will find it both easier and cheaper to move production to the European Union. Leaving the EU is currently looking very bad for the auto industry in particular. https://www.carscoops.com/2018/07/mini-electric-looks-almost-ready-plug-ev-market/#lg=1&slide=13 TESLA Q2 VOLUMES ALMOST EQUAL TO JAGUAR The market intelligence company AID has been tracking Tesla sales vs Jaguar: "Tesla is already snapping at the heels of Jaguar. The question now is, as AIDs segment observers have put it most topically, based on Teslas latest sales surge it is not if Tesla will outsell Jaguar on the global prestige sector sales scene, but how soon?" They say:" Figures compiled by AID every month reveal that this second quarter, thanks in large measure to the long-expected but belated sales bounce from Teslas all-new Model 3 in its domestic US backyard, worldwide sales of Tesla skyrocketed to 40,740 units, according to Tesla. In a world were almost everything is relative, that directly compares to the only slightly higher 44,124 worldwide Jaguar sales during the same second quarter." So as I saw on Kyle Field from Clean Technica say today on Twitter, lazy headline writers might have to stop using the phrase Tesla Killer, maybe they need to start calling Elon Musk #JaguarKiller The thing I would like to add is the unknown of the I-PACE sales which Q3 will include. http://www.eagleaid.com/AID-Newsletter-preorder-1813preview-d-Tesla-already-hot-on-Jaguars-heels.htm MUSK GOES TO CHINA, BUT IT IS TOO LATE FOR TESLA I know I'm a simpleton who thinks out loud on a wildly unpopular podcast, but I do get confused. Jim Collins at Forbes seems to think Tesla has missed the boat to sell cars in China. Jim says "It Is Too Late For Tesla To Ride The Chinese EV Boom". Let see what Jim says in this Forbes article: "Tesla's huge head start in the Western markets for high-end BEVs simply does not exist in China. As evidenced by the rash of senior executive departures in recent months, Elon Musk seems to like to do things on his own. But the Chinese market, which has flourished through so many East-West partnerships, is a very different animal, and Tesla simply does not have the capital to compete there." He seems to conclude that because they're dominant in the U.S. they should be dominant in China. I don't think I've ever heard Elon or Tesla say that. Just that they need to build a Gigafactory on every continent in order to make the kind of cars, at the kind of prices, which local people desire and can afford. It's weird, the headline bears little relevance to the article. Has Tesla missed the boat as they say? New Energy Vehicle sales are on target to double, it's a market in massive growth. Unlike in the U.S. where they literally had to CREATE a market for cars, there's an exploding one in China, so that head start which apparently they can't be successful without contradicts the facts that when Tesla launch there wasn't even a race. Let alone a head start. How is it "too late" for Tesla? https://www.forbes.com/sites/jimcollins/2018/07/11/mr-musk-goes-to-china-but-it-is-far-too-late-for-tesla-to-ride-the-chinese-ev-boom/#4fdbaab57a01 ELECTRIC CARS ARE THE FUTURE. HERE'S WHY YOU SHOULD BE AN EARLY ADOPTER Huffington Post say you should be an early adopter, and not just of cars. But of electric bikes too. "Another reason to get on the EV hype early? The chance to try a whole other way of transport. Step up: electric motorbikes. Richard Jordan, director of Super Soco, supplies 22 motorcycle dealers with his brand, which has been dubbed the ’Tesla of motorbikes.′ “Our bikes are legally the same as a 50cc motorbike, so they’re light, nimble and nippy through traffic – the ideal commuting machine. Cost per mile is tiny – around 1p – so commuting into London costs under 10p, compared with a travelcard cost of around £7 per day [based on a weekly card]. The battery is removable, so can be charged from the wall at work, or at home.” https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/electric-cars-are-the-future-heres-why-you-should-be-an-early-adopter_uk_5b337308e4b0cb56051dca58 TESLA HAS 100 MODEL 3 PERFORMANCE CARS FOR TEST DRIVES Elon Musk has tweeted about the Model 3s available for test drives: "Should be very soon. We’ve already made around 100 Model 3 Performance cars for test drives in stores." On last week’s edition of Ride The Lightning with Ryan McCaffrey he was speculating if they would rather you took a base model or Performance model for a test, which would be best for customers, so he tweeted Elon and that was the response. Looks like they've gone down the avenue of letting people rive the P3D and hoping, if they’d planned on a base model, to up sell them. That makes sense, basic business practice is to try and add value to a customer for a price. All that Anti-selling looks over, remember when Elon would tweet Model 3 reservation holders and say they should be buying a Model S?! By the way I've been playing too much with the configurator now it's opened up to everyone - i'm thinking white multi-coat paint with white interior is mine. TESLA REGISTERS MORE THAN 6,000 NEW MODEL 3 DUAL MOTOR AWD VINS Simon Alvarez at Teslarati, who incidentally got a retweet from Elon recently, has been tracking VIN numbers too by keeping an eye on the Twitter use @Model3VINs: "Tesla has registered a large batch of 6,032 new Model 3 VINs recently, with almost all of them corresponding to the Dual Motor AWD variant of the compact electric car. The new vehicle identification filings come at a time when Tesla is actively pushing its deliveries for the Model 3. This recent filing stands as yet another sign that Tesla is well on its way to sustaining its production rate of 5,000 Model 3 per week this third quarter" TESLA PICKUP TIMES ARE THE BOTTLENECK With so many people to get a Model 3 out to, Fred at Electrek has obtained an email to customers where Tesla are moving from making handover a one-hour hoopla, where your car is uncovered from a silk cloth draped over it, to a 5 minute quickie. The email says: "Learn about your Model 3: You’ll be driving home in as little as 5 minutes from your arrival, so please review the following resources below before your appointment until you are confident and ready to drive off: Watch Model 3 Tutorial Videos Review Model 3 Owner’s Manual Visit your local Tesla Showroom for any additional questions Sign & Drive Pickup Appointment Check In Paperwork Signing 5 minute Vehicle Handoff in which we will show you the essentials to enjoy your drive home: Charging Bundle Key Access Vehicle Start/Stop Park/Reverse/Neutral/Drive Tesla has produced 9 short videos to show different features of the Model 3 in preparation for this program." This was inevitable in some way you can't spend an hour making a song & dance over every buyers. Not when you have 5,000 cars to hand over, and 5,000 next week, and 5,000 the week after! You get my drift. I imagine the Model S and Model X buyers still get a more premium treatment. Hello and welcome to the Sunday 17th June edition of EV News Daily. It’s Martyn Lee here with the news you need to know about electric cars and the move towards sustainable transport. NEW MODEL 3 ASSEMBLEY LINE JUST PRODUCED IT'S FIRST CAR It was only a month ago we heard the details of the dual motor, and much more expensive Performance versions, of the Model 3. Or as they seem to be called these days the 3D and P3D! And yesterday Elon Musk revealed the very first Model 3 just rolled off the new assembly line at the Fremont factory. And when I say factory, it's more like a semi-permanent tent. He tweeted a pic of a Performance model, and we know that because we can see the red brake callipers, and whilst it's not totally clear you can make out the white interior. Both are only appearing for now on the P3D. Range: 310 miles 0 to 60 mph acceleration: 3.5 seconds Top speed: 155 mph Price: $78,000 (without autopilot) https://electrek.co/2018/06/16/tesla-model-3-dual-motor-performance-new-assembly-line/ ELON MUSK WILL BE ‘ALMOST 24/7’ AT FACTORY TO HELP FIX A FEW BOTTLENECKS "An e-mail sent to all Tesla staff from Elon Musk on Friday night congratulated employees for the progress they've made on Model 3 vehicle production recently — but also said "radical improvements" are still needed in manufacturing to hit the company's quarterly targets." according to CNBC: "It also references a man named Omead, presumably Omead Afshar, a project manager in the office of the CEO at Tesla" It's getting very exciting! All parts of the Model 3 production system are now above 500 and some are almost at 700 cars already. Congratulations to all on making so much progress! That said, radical improvements are still needed in paint shop output, GA3, bringing up the new GA4, End of Line and Module Zone 4 at Giga. We also need to achieve sustained, 700+ per week on the body line. Wherever you are in the company, if you feel you can help out in any of those areas, please check in with Jat Dhillon on GA3, Jerome Guillen on GA4 and Omead on EoL and JB Straubel or Christ Lister on Module Zone 4. I will be at our Fremont factory almost 24/7 for the next several days checking in with those groups to make sure they have as many resources as they can handle. Electrive reports: "The system allows for charging capacities up to 400 kW, and allows for charging up to 1,000 volts with liquid-cooled cables without changing plugs or via current collectors. CHAdeMO 2.0 also opens the door to fast charging for larger electric vehicles, such as trucks and buses. The main benefit compared to the CCS system remains: The Japanese DC charging system will remain V2G capable. Furthermore, the new CHAdeMO technology is compatible with Plug-and-Charge functionalities, allowing for automated authentication and payment." https://www.electrive.com/2018/06/16/chademo-2-0-allows-for-charging-up-to-400-kw/ PRINCE CHARLES WANTS LUXURY ELECTRIC CAR FOR ROYAL FLEET "The Prince of Wales is preparing to add an electric car to the royal fleet after making friends with the brother of Elon Musk, founder of Tesla." according to the Mail in the UK: "While hosting the multinational's board member Kimbal Musk and his fiancée at Dumfries House in Scotland, Charles test drove a £73,350 black Tesla Model S. And he now wants to make the Royal Family's car collection more eco-friendly by including an electric vehicle. Clarence House told The Daily Telegraph: 'There is definitely a plan for us to incorporate electric cars into the royal fleet." NEW HIGH-TECH 2020 NISSAN QASHQAI SET TO GO HYBRID "The next-generation Nissan Qashqai, due in showrooms in 2020, will feature two new hybrid systems plus a sleek design makeover, Auto Express can exclusively reveal. However, there won’t be a pure-electric version, while Nissan is also considering ditching diesel from what is currently the UK’s third best-selling car." co.uk reports: "Full electric power will be reserved for a separate SUV model based on an all-new platform. It’s likely to underpin a whole family of electric cars spanning B, C and D segments (everything from Juke to X-Trail) for Nissan and its Alliance partners Renault and Mitsubishi." http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/nissan/qashqai/103735/new-high-tech-2020-nissan-qashqai-set-to-go-hybrid NISSAN JOINS FORCES WITH E.ON FOR V2G AND RENEWABLE ENERGY Mark Kane at InsideEVs has picked up on a story: "Nissan announced a new partnership concerning electric vehicle-to-grid services and renewable energy projects with energy supplier E.ON" Nissan look like they want to be an energy company and not just an auto maker, with business units around renewable energy generation, energy storage systems, vehicle-to-grid systems, grid integration for Nissan EV customers Nissan say "Nissan uses its Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology to achieve this. It’s a key element of Intelligent Integration – one of the three central pillars of the Nissan Intelligent Mobility vision. The partnership with E.ON will utilise a V2G infrastructure and Nissan’s advanced bi-directional charging technology. It will allow customers to draw energy from the electricity grid to power their electric vehicle. They can also ‘sell’ that energy back to the grid for others to use. This could represent no fuel costs for the customer – just free power for their EV." https://insideevs.com/nissan-joins-forces-with-e-on-for-v2g-and-renewable-energy/ SOFTWARE FIX FOR 2016-17 NISSAN LEAFS MAY IMPROVE BATTERY RANGE Green Car Reports has an update on 30kWh Nissan LEAF battery issue: "In March we told you about a study of a small group of 2016 and 2017 Nissan Leaf models equipped with the larger, 30kWh battery pack that had abnormal battery degradation. That study concluded that nearly four out of five of the larger battery packs examined lost cell capacity three times faster than earlier 24kWh battery packs that were studied. This week, Nissan said it would issue a software update for the battery controllers to help stem the power loss. The software fix was reported by Clean Fleet Report. According to the report, the software fix addresses a known issue about the controller miscalculating the available range and charge from the battery. Initially, some suspected that the Leaf's air cooling for its batteries—rather than liquid cooling—was to blame for reduced capacity and higher degradation. The study in March didn't observe the redesigned 2018 Nissan Leaf's battery pack, which was upgraded further to 40 kWh." https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1117247_software-fix-for-2016-17-nissan-leafs-may-improve-battery-range COMMUNITY Let’s get onto the topic of chargers being in use when YOU need to use them. It’s Thursday 7th June 2018 and this is your EV News Daily. Good morning, good afternoon and good evening! Wherever you're listening around the world, a very warm welcome from London, UK. Here is today’s news about electric cars and the future of transport. My name is Martyn Lee and I go through every EV article online so you don’t have to. The background to the shareholder meeting was a $785million loss in the first quarter of this year alone. Model 3 production is good, and behind expectations. Mission: "To accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy. Thank you to everyone who I follow who attended and posted pictures, from a few thousand miles away I felt very close. Thank you Dennis Pascual who had great pics of the white Roadster on show, albeit without an interior so not a working model. A reminder to those with a spare $250,000 kicking around, you can put you deposit down now. The deposit being the full amount! 1.ELON GETS EMOTIONAL Elon started off emotional, almost walking on stage with tears in his eyes and steadying his voice. It was quite personal anything with some shareholders wanting him removed as Chairman, which was never a realistic proposal. Shareholders gave Elon and the board a full vote of confidence. It was visceral how much he cares, and how deeply invested he is on a personal level. Invested in the financial success, the quality of cars and above all, the safety of his workforce. "At Tesla, we build our cars with love. At a lot of other companies, they're built by marketing or the finance department, and there's no soul. We're not perfect, but we pour our heart and soul into it and we really care." WORKER INJURY RATE REDUCED Safer Employees was the title of this slide. Zach from Clean Technica says: "Tesla’s factory worker injury rate is now approximately 6% below the auto industry average and 50% what it was when GM and Toyota were last building cars in the NUMMI factory. Last year, Tesla’s factory worker injury rate was a bit above the auto industry average. Tesla’s long-term goal is to get it to 50% of the industry average, or 25% of what it was when GM and Toyota were running the factory." TESLA ARE IMPROVING QUALITY Tesla Model 3 repairs reduced rapidly from Sep 17 to January 18, and have stabilised now at a much lower level. BATTERY PACK AND CELL COST REDUCTIONS In the Q&A section, I thought some of the most interesting comments came when Elon and JB were chatting about battery cell prices. Below $100/kWh is the holy grail for cost parity with combustion engines and some analysts put that at 2020, others I’ve seen only last week said if couldn't be done before 2023. BNEF, hugely respected and knowing a lot more than I do, say 2025. Elon said...by the end of this year at cell level. That took my breath away to be honest. He said it depends on commodity prices, and it's cell level not pack level, but $100 by the end of the year? Even if you account for ElonTime and add 6 months (make it 12!) and it would be huge news. Pack level $100/kWh within two years, and even Elon joked that wasn't ElonTime, that was realistic time. He specifically talked about improvements to the chemistry, vertical integration at Giga, and production of anodes and cathodes. If i was an analyst today or at BNEF I’d be going back the calculator sharpish and revising my estimates so not to seem out of touch. As the battery pack is always the most expensive part of an EV, which reduces Tesla's costs and increases their margins. MODEL 3 IS TOP SELLING PREMIUM SEDAN It's hard with Tesla to focus on the stories that matter, such can be the chaos of media attention around them. Partly brought on by their own success, the half a million Model 3 reservations, and the bold claims they make about their ability to produce them. But they ARE making a lot of cars, and rates are improving. So much so that Model 3 is now the best-selling mid-sized premium sedan in the U.S. on a monthly basis, now outselling Daimler's popular Mercedes-Benz C-Class, according to Tesla. More than the Audi A4, more than the BMW 3Series, more than the Lexus IS. GIGAFACTORY OVERDRIVE Tesla expects to produce more than half of the world’s EV batteries in Q3 2018, including Chinese production. Without any sort of fact check, that was the stat which struck me as intriguing. There are a LOT of Chinese cars, trucks and buses being produced with rates on the rise, from the likes of BYD, BAIC etc. Oh and don't try to take a quick trip around the Gigafactory, Elon says it takes 2 hours if you don't stop, to see it all. And he & JB said it was only one third built. When finished it will easily be the biggest building on planet earth. That won't be complete for another 4 or 5 years. 1GWh OF ENERGY STORAGE As I talked about on yesterday’s podcast, if you missed it you might want to download that one we discussed more in detail the JB Straubel quotes, but Tesla didn't miss the chance to reiterate the news Tesla’s energy storage production has now reached 1 GWh worldwide. And they want to deploy the next 1GWh within a year, more of that phrase 'exponential growth' from EM. And talking energy, Elon dropped in how he happened to have bought a house opposite where he lives - not sure whether that's to live in or whether that's what you do as a billionaire - but that he had the Solar Roof put on it, and he's so happy with how it looks and works. It doesn't get the headlines but you could see how much Elon wants the Solar Roof to be the default choice of roof covering in the future, and he talked about it wanting to last 50 years. MODEL Y This was never meant to be the forum for major announcements about any of those things but inevitably we heard snippets of info. There was a new silhouette image of the Model Y, just the front, but the fanboys and fangirls loved it. He reiterated Twitter claims of a model Y reveal date of March 2019, with production commencing in H1 2020. ROADSTER The surprise of the Roadster unveil at the Semi event took the air out of the room at the time, but it gets better. There was laughter when Elon called the car he revealed last year the "base Roadster" and said “it’s gonna have a SpaceX options package.” So that's an improvement on 0-60mph in 1.9 seconds, Top Speed of 250mph and 620 mile range. I also thought it was interesting, and this doesn't get reported because Elon often says a 'thing' which gets all the headlines, but the sentence he says next can be more powerful. He said combustion technology has a halo effect on all ICE cars because it still owns the records, but he wants the Roadster to be the best, full stop. The fastest accelerating, the quickest, the best on the track, and the longest range between adding fuel. He said once an electric car bests combustion for everything then it's game on. Or rather, game over for gas. SEMI RE-DESIGN Elon did say the semi would get a redesign, where in Europe we have to use the cab-over-engine design to meet regulations on total length of truck. He also said the range would be beyond what anyone thinks is possible. He confirmed the finalised, single design would work in North America, Europe, China, and the rest of the world. MODEL 3 TEST DRIVES If you're lucking enough to live in an area with a Model 3 on display, you're already doing better than most, and certainly better than here in Europe. But Elon announced he wanted a Model 3 at every Tesla store, and next some cars for test drives. That's in the next two months. What model do you think they would put out for test drives? A basic 35k model, a fully spec'd model, a dual motor (let's call it the 3D) or the full beans performance P3D model? Either way I don't think just anyone will get a test drive, either existing S and X owners, or even just Model 3 reservation holders, to dissuade them from cancelling. COMPACT TESLA I love how an innocent question can be huge news. Will there be a compact-sized Tesla? One to take on the VW ID range, the Golf buying market? Oh yes says Elon, within 5 years. So watch out Golf, or Ford Focus, or Vauxhall Astra, or Audi A3. ELON WANTS TO GET BETTER AT 'TIME' “I do think I have an issue with time. This is something I’m trying to get better at. I’m a naturally optimistic person. I’m trying to recalibrate these estimates as much as possible.” AUTOPILOT He said he has been up until 1am last night testing Autopilot. Isn't that a fascinating insight? Autopilot features were said to “exponentially” improve over the next six-twelve months. He even confirmed that Tesla plans to bring back free Autopilot trials. TESLA BODYSHOP Domenick at InsideEV's described it best when he pointed out: "Tesla service centres will double over the next year, Musk mentioned that they will be adding Tesla body shop repair locations. These would be attached, mostly, to existing service centres, with the top 10 metro areas in the US getting one by the end of the month. Saying that this would create a huge improvement in both time and cost of body repair claiming, incredibly, that they would be able to achieve same-day repair in a lot of cases." 35K MODEL 3 DELIVERED FIRST QUARTER OF 2019 We will honor that obligation” to deliver at that price, he said, “and we would do so now if it was physically possible.” MODEL 3 AND THIRD ASSEMBLEY LINE He said the third general assembly line in its Fremont, California, plant will come online soon, ensuring production will hit 5,000 cars per week by the end of June. "All Model 3 production lines have demonstrated capability of producing 500 cars per day". If you remember 5,000/week was the target for end of 2017 but it's now looking like it might actually happen by the end of Q2, the end of June is 23 days time. Line 3 was confirmed to be more efficient than Lines 1 and 2. SUPERCHARGER EXPANSION 9,969 Superchargers Globally Today, a whisker away from 10,000. The Supercharger V3 will be ready by the end of the year, and when ready, the expansion rate will be increased to get more of the V3's out there. Elon said the plan is to put them at all the right places so you can drive around the world only on Superchargers. Long term they're working on charging ratios, which was a new term to me, with a charging time ratio on long trips of 6:1, later 8 or 10:1 (currently around 4.5:1). On the earnings call, but not in my notes from yesterday, was the charge rate of 200-250kW. CASH FLOW POSITIVE I was watching the live stream, which was super late here, on Ben Sullins YouTube channel, he was live streaming it but also had himself picture-in-picture in the corner of the screen offering some commentary. And when this came up, i think he punched the air. Or at least clapped. Cash. Flow. Positive. Something Tesla has claimed in the past would happen but never did, however Elon carefully chose his words to say they'd be cash flow positive and GAAP net income positive in Q3 & Q4 of 2018. He was careful to say "expecting" which backed off the word "definitely" he's used previously. Elon also said he doesn't expect to raise any capital during the year through debt or equity. CHINESE PRESENCE I got the feeling they weren't meant to talk about China, but it happened! They confirmed Shanghai as the rumours suggested for Giga there, and all operations under one roof. From raw materials in, to complete cars out. It follows the very recent news that China is now allowing EV makers to build facilities there without needed a joint venture with a domestic company. Tesla's revenue in China has risen from $319 million annually in 2016 to over $2 billion in 2017, with a presence there they will soon avoid import tariffs. Oh and not to forget Europe, they're deciding the location. And in total, they see a need for 12 worldwide Gigafactgories. I’d love to spread the word about electric cars so, if you can, share this somebody who might be interested. In this episode I talk about what I am learning from the manual QuailityWings released for their upcoming 787. I also talk about where the 787 will fit into the fleet of my personal VA. Finally, I insult P3D user and talk about how I am going to milk my FSX investment for as long as I can. It is no doubt an ego thing on both sides. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/nicnacjak/message
In this episode I talk about my flight sim addiction. I also talk about The Aerosoft CRJ, the end of FSX, P3D, Xplane and the wait for the Qualitywings 787. I talk about how my reduced flight sim spending and my resistance to P3D is going to make doing this podcast hard. But, rest assured I will not podfade! Welcome to Season 4! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/nicnacjak/message
In this episode I discuss the folly of only developing for P3D. In addition to the nagging license issue there is also the matter of lost business in the X Plane and hypothetical FSW market. Have feedback? Email me Donate --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/nicnacjak/message
In this episode I talk with Kalene Petitt about using P3D for home training by air crews. Delving into safety, we talk about what can happen to some crews at some airlines when the crew alleges safety violations or reports safety concerns to the company. In Karlene's new book Flight For Sanity, Section 8 of Darby's union contract is used to sideline her for mental health analysis. How could something meant to prevent another GermanWings accident be used to sideline pilots? And what implications does this have for pilots who have legitimate mental health concerns? --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/nicnacjak/message
In this episode more FSX issues drive me nuts. I start helping people set up flight sim. And, I commit to more time with X-Plane 11 and maybe P3D when it goes 64 bit. Please like and share. It helps with booking guests! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/nicnacjak/message
Before you switch to P3D there is a legal issue you should know about: Prepar3D is not to be used, offered, sold or distributed through markets or channels for use as a personal/consumer entertainment product. Flight Simmers have been ignoring this for years and it hangs like a show over the entire flight sim industry.
