In Ep. 26 of What the Spirit is Saying to the Church, you will hear from notorious gang leader and drug dealer, Dr. Sonny Lara, and his amazing wife Linda about how the unconditional, incarnational love of God reaches the most unreachable. They founded a program for troubled youths called Firehouse. No teenager can even get into the program unless they have three ‘F's' on their report card. Sonny says “we want the failures, the castaways, and we want to turn them around with tough love.” Hear the thrilling account of how the lives of thousands of teenagers are being turned around. You will also hear how Linda finds the adult “failures” of society and, through a post-secondary training program called The Future Elite Academy, she empowers them to become change leaders in their own communities. Lastly, the bow that ties every part of their ministries together is their local church community - the Star of David Ministries. From this local base, congregants reach out into the highways and the byways of society. Through this roving Ekklesia the entire church community goes door to door every Sunday morning to bring Christ to those who would never meet Him. Listen with joy to What the Spirit is Saying to the Church with Dr. Sonny and Linda Lara. Bios of Dr. Sonny and Linda Lara Drs. Sonny & Linda Lara are the Founders & Executive Directors of The Firehouse Community Development Corporation. Sonny & Linda Lara lead The Firehouse, which is a part of the City of San Jose Mayor's Gang Task Force. Providing gang intervention, crisis response and leadership to at risk youth. Firehouse provides many benefits to the community including decreased crime, homicide, and even decreased graffiti and vandalism. Providing everything from life skills to tatoo removal to community service, the Firehouse equips gang members to leave the gang lifestyle and become a functioning part of society. For the past 25 years, Sonny has been recognized as a Gang Expert by city and state officials and has received a host of awards and letters of support. He has also received media coverage for his endeavors in the community. His wife, Dr. Linda A. Lara, has a passion to empower and train leaders who will change lives and transform nations. She earned an AA Degree in Practical Ministry at IMPACT School of Ministry, as well as an AA Degree in Theology from Sierra Pacific Bible College, and ultimately earned her PhD in Christian Leadership from United Graduate College and Seminary International. Linda is the Founder and Director of School of Equipping Apostolic/Prophetic Lions and Lionesses (SEAPLL). She is also a talk show host on her on-line and mobile TV Show Kingdom Global Innovators, where she empowers others to Make it Happen #MIH. Apostles Sonny and Linda Lara live in Morgan Hill, CA and have 4 children, all whom are in ministry and help them lead the San Jose church.
The Conversion of Sonny Lara is a modern-day miracle. Raised in the dangerous east side of San Jose, Sonny came from a long line of criminals. His grandfather was a professional hit man for gangs and even tried to kill his own children. Sonny's grandfather met his death by gang-style execution. As he was growing up, Sonny's mother would chide him saying, “you're going to turn out just like your grandfather!” With this violent and godless family background, it was no wonder that Sonny began taking and selling drugs while still in elementary school. He was the one every family said to keep away from. Teachers even tried to make Sonny skip grade five because they saw him as being dangerous to the other children. By age 12 Sonny became the youngest person to be in perpetual probation . . . in and out of juvenile detention centers. At the young age of 12, Sonny started a gang, which eventually led him to be involved in sorts of crime: armed robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, shoot outs, police car chases, and on and on! By the time he was 27 years old, Sonny was sentenced to prison and would go on to spend years in the most notorious prisons in California. Thankfully, around this time Sonny's wife, Linda, became a Christian through the persistent witnessing of her sister. Prior to that, Sonny's sister had also received Christ and warned Sonny that she put him on God's spiritual hit list, and “He don't miss.” Linda began urging Sonny to follow Christ and give God the leadership of his life. Initially, Sonny would have nothing to do with it – but Linda kept on praying. Then one day, Sonny heard the audible voice of God in his prison cell saying, “you can come and serve Me, or make this place your home!” Sonny responded to this voice and encountered God through a radical conversion. As you listen to this amazing Conversions story, you will have hope for even the most difficult people. No one is too far from the grace of God! Bios of Dr. Sonny and Linda Lara Drs. The Pharisees believed that by strictly obeying the law (cleaning the outside of the cup) they were acceptable to God (by having an inward cleanliness). Jesus sets them straight by reminding them of the weightier matters of the law - justice, mercy, & faith. Despite their hard work and effort, because their hearts had not been changed they were still dead on the inside.

Session 4 - Ministry Training Fall 2017
In this episode, Chris Abel suggests three specific ways church leaders can make sure they are on the right track with young adult ministry. Those ways include: Pay attention to your environment—Be watching and listening to what is going on in your setting. You should be uniquely focused on the context of your environment, and understand that part of your environment is what people think about your church even if they do not attend. You must be a student of your specific culture. Distribute your leadership—Chris shares an experiment he has been pursuing in his own ministry setting to push the leadership responsibilities to members of the group. Every church leader is going to need a team; what are you doing to create your team? Tap into all generations—No one agonizes over young people like the parents of young people. Many young people will come to your church because of their connections with the older adults in their lives.
Today we continue talking about Practicalities in Ministry.Questions Worth Pondering: ""How might Satan tempt you in the ministry? ""In what ways might your pride need to be put in check? ""What are some practical things (processes, logistics...etc.) that your church and leadership team are good at? ""In what ways can you and your ministry team improve (practically)?
Jesus is your greatest example for life and service to God. He served His heart out unto death while investing in the lives of those closest to Him. He did not lead by compulsion but invested Himself into those who yielded their lives to Him.Brought to you by Craftsman Home Inspections llc - craftsmancolorado.com Music by Evan Schaeffer, Ryan Little and Captive Portal.

What are the lies that we have embraced because of our life circumstances or things that have happened that would keep us or hold us back from the fullness of identity that the Lord has for us?” –Rebecca Greenwood From an early age, Rebecca Greenwood struggled with strongholds in her life: anger, depression and multiple fears. She feared authority figures, displeasing others, heights, the dark…even while she was a church youth leader and member of the worship team. Through a process that she describes in this podcast, Rebecca learned how to break free from these strongholds through uncovering their root causes and allowing God to heal them. She shares how you can find freedom and lasting peace through this process, and help others to do the same. “We will want in our personal lives to see God's kingdom extended wherever He has placed us…We can be totally bold and humble all at the same time.”-Rebecca Greenwood You will learn: How to identify the areas in your life where you are limiting yourself How to uncover your own strongholds and their root causes How to replace the lies about yourself that you have been believing with truths about who you were really created to be How to retrain and renew your mind Rebecca is co-founder and president of Christian Harvest International and Strategic Prayer Action Network (SPAN). From the time she was young girl, Rebecca felt a drawing of the Lord that she would be used by Him. Her mother used to tell Rebecca she was blessed and her father loved to sing a son entitled Far Away Places to she and her sister when they were small girls. Little did her parents know they were speaking her destiny into her heart and mind even from the time she was a young child. In a prayer time in 1990 she felt a strong presence of the Spirit in which she was overcome. During this time the Lord showed her a vision of thousands and thousands of souls from many nations. He challenged her saying, Becca, will you be accountable for the souls I have assigned to you? Will you reach them for Me? Her heart captivated by this experience, she seriously responded to the mandate of the Lord to the nations. Since this Kingdom encounter, her passion has been seeing the lands of the world impacted for the Glory of God and reaching people with the gospel and setting the captive free. Her heart cry has become, Lord give me the nations. . As a result, prophecy, prophetic intercession, transformational spiritual warfare prayer, spiritual mapping, deliverance and teaching the word of God extensively in the many lands of the earth are the main thrusts of Christian Harvest. Over the past 22 years, she has participated and led in spiritual warfare prayer journeys to 25 countries such as Egypt, Nepal, Italy, Turkey, Russia, Ukraine, Ireland, Spain, China, and to many cities and locations throughout the United States in which measurable breakthrough of transformation have been realized. Having a heart for lost souls, Rebecca has seen many saved and set free. She ministers in transparency from her personal experiences of overcoming fear, depression and rebellion into freedom. She is committed to equipping in scriptural truths on how to live an overcoming life of purpose, fulfillment and destiny. And to equip people and churches to have a Jesus captivated and authoritative prayer life in which change and transformation are realized. While she loves to travel the world and partner with the Lord in touching people's lives, Rebecca's favorite and most cherished times are with her husband Greg and their three beautiful daughters: Kendall, Rebecca and Katie. They reside in Colorado Springs, CO and are members of Freedom Church. Rebecca has been a guest on TBN, Its Supernatural, God Knows and the Harvest Show. She has written for publications such as Charisma, Pray! Magazine and Spirit-Led Woman. She graduated with a Doctorate of Practical Ministry from Wagner Leadership Institute where she also serves as a core faculty member.
