Not every business is built on a high volume of transactions - some prospects take years of active courting and nurturing to convert. The key to those prospects is working your way up the C-Suite. The question is how do you get to the key C-Suite decision makers without getting lost in the endless layers of organization funnels? If only someone knew the key to cutting through the maze and connecting straight into the C-Suite... That's why today I want you to meet Dan King... Today's guest is Dan King of Fireside Strategic. Business Over Beer

On this episode of Business Over Beer, Michael Pan, founder of Pan's Mushroom Jerky, joins us fresh of his appearance on ABC's Shark Tank TV show. A former engineer for Motorola, and the product guy for a tech start up, Michael dipped his toe into different types of entrepreneurship before going all in on Pan's Mushroom Jerky in 2018.  During a trip to Malaysia to connect with his roots, Michael's cousin served him a mushroom snack that he had been making for friends, family and selling locally. After that trip, feeling blown away by the product, and now having this family story that he felt connected to, combined with a feeling of wanting to do something new professionally, Michael knew he wanted to get mushroom jerky out to the rest of the world. How does it taste? Well, we pair three Pan's Mushroom Jerky flavors with different types of craft beer.   Prost!   In this episode: Made with shiitake mushrooms, Pan's Mushroom Jerky is plant-based, vegan, high in fiber and vitamin D, paleo-friendly, Kosher, soy-free, gluten-free, and uses organic ingredients. The goal is to get the texture of the meat without using meat and mushrooms are a very healthy and still satisfying part of a vegetarian diet. During the early years as a side hustle, natural food trends and vegan foods were still very niche and beef jerky was still becoming artisan, so with these emerging markets were coming out, there was a good idea for a business, but Michael didn't know if there was full time business there.   Initially importing the product from his family overseas, Michael started it as a side hustle, giving him the time he needed to learn how to run a food business. In 2012, he launched a tech start up, Fan Cred, with friends as his first leap into entrepreneurship, giving him the experience he needed to go all in with the mushroom jerky business. In 2018, Michael boot strapped his business, testing recipes over and over in his apartment, sampling it like crazy and wearing all the hats, from sourcing ingredients, to making the product, to going out and selling it. The uniqueness of the product caught people's eye early on, getting it onto a few store shelves, and then attending food tradeshows helped to initially scale the business in retail.   Guest Beers - Paired with Pan's Mushroom Jerky: Gigantic Brewing Co. - Portland, OR Kölschtastic, Kölsh, 5% ABV, 25 IBU - paired with Pan's BBQ Mushroom Jerky "Kölschtastic is a Kölsch style beer inspired by a trip to Köln, Germany. It is a clean, crisp traditional beer with a subtle balance of malt and hops. It is a clear, top-fermented beer with a bright straw yellow hue similar to other beers brewed primarily with Pilsner malt. We use traditional Kölsch yeast in our version, but add a little more hop than the Germans do.  Gigantic Kölsch is a beautiful, crisp version of the original with just a touch of hops to balance the malt."   Backwoods Brewing Co. - Carson, WA Big Cedar IRA, India Red Ale, 6.5% ABV, 50 IBU - paired with Pan's Original Mushroom Jerky "Brewed year round, this India Red Ale has hop-forward flavor, balanced with a sweet and roasty malt finish. Floral aroma, with citrus and pine."   Wild Ride Brewing - Redmond, WA Nut Crusher Peanut Butter Porter, 6% ABV, 18 IBU - paired with Pan's Zesty Thai Mushroom Jerky "We love beer. And we love peanut butter. And Nut Crusher Peanut Butter Porter is here to bring the best of these two worlds together! With notes of chocolate and caramel, this porter is complemented by the addition of creamy peanut butter flavor. It's a true liquid peanut butter cup, and it's here for you to enjoy."   Episode Links: Pan's Mushroom Jerky Michael Pan on Shark Tank The Spottsville Monster A Taste of Asia and Tea New Seasons Market Motorola Motorola Startac Fan Cred

How do you get a mentor? What does a good mentor look like? That’s how we kick off this show. I’m with Mark Timm. Mark is a seriously successful businessman who can I just say...has done very well. But he wanted to do better, in business, and as a dad. So he got a mentor. Not just any mentor mind you, but Kevin Harrington, the original shark on the blockbuster Shark Tank TV show. Inventor of the infomercial and if you’ve ever heard, “Wait, there’s more,” that’s from Kevin. The two met through the Ziglar corporation and family and I’ve been blessed to spend time with both guys. They have now written a book together, Mentor To Millions, which you can get at getmtm.com. But what you’ll find in the book, we cover in this show, and it’s literally, a “Wait, there’s more!” episode. As I said, we start off with what everyone wants to hear most, how do you find a mentor? Here is what’s interesting though, Mark talks so much about the mentoring he got and gets from Kevin, even now as they are business partners. And folks, the book is along with everything else, a complete playbook on the business methods of Kevin Harrington. But Mark not only applies the lessons to his businesses, but his family, as a primary focus for Mark, as you’ll hear, is nurturing and growing his family. So everything he learns and applies to business, he applies to his family. He showcases that not only do you not have to sacrifice your family to be successful in your work or business, but you can actually benefit your family by bringing them into your work. It’s really an intriguing message and show. Again, you can get Mentor To Millions which has just come out and already hit the bestsellers list, at getmtm.com. Show them a receipt from buying the book and they are offering 30 days of mentorship, for your business and family! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Is your new product Invention Idea worthy of a SharkTank TV success? If so, here are just a few of the many lessons to help you pave the path.  FACT: If you have ever heard of new product pitches on Shark Tank over the years, I’m guessing you’ve noticed that most are rejected because they lack what the "Sharks" consider to be viable products for the market.  Shark Tank venture capitalists Mark Cuban, Kevin Harrington, Lori Greiner, Daymond John, Kevin O' Leary, and Barbara Corcoran fund new product ideas based mainly on commercial product viability.  Of course, there are those pitches (like Jamie Siminoff’s Wi-Fi doorbell) that have failed to immediately secure deals on Shark Tank. The good news is they didn’t stop with their new product when they heard…we’re not interested. In fact, several of those who did their pitch on SharkTank have learned how to fail forward, refine their strategy to determine commercial market viability and have moved on and become 7 figure and even 8 figure companies.  To help you better understand how to prepare your new product for commercial market viability, here are some 4 key lessons learned about getting products to market from Inventors who have succeeded in getting funding from the “Sharks”. Lesson 1: Have a unique and competitive advantage In other words, this is your opportunity to create an amazing product with significant VALUE and BENEFITS to surpass your competition and fulfill your target market needs.  Sharks aren't interested in great ideas. You must think "outside the box" and come up with a product that has a significant advantage over existing competition in the market.  Your new product idea needs to be unique, novel and provide significant value and benefits to your target market.  In regards to Goldenseed's example, they displayed product differentiation, a unique and competitive advantage to grow the brand incredibly fast with a solid business infrastructure and a large target market.  You need something unique about your product to create significant interest and repeat business. Here are a few examples:  Product Differentiation: Provide something different to the consumer besides just a low price. The key is to provide VALUE and unique BENEFITS to your target market.  Competitive Advantage: Provide unique benefits and value of your new product so it is perceived by the target market as significant and superior to the competition. It’s the WHY of your brand loyalty and WHY we prefer one product over another. Lesson 2: Have a talented and knowledgeable resource support team Your team is critical when you are starting out with a new product concept. For your idea to be transformed to a success story, you must identify and align with the most effective resources including. These resources can be in the form of your own internal team and external resources such as 1099 contractors, vendors, coaches and mentors.  Shark Tank’s venture Capitalist Kevin Harrington is on record, stating that strong management and a knowledgeable resource team were some of the main reasons he invested in Goldenseed – a cannabis and hemp company. Despite having received many pitches from other Hemp and CBD companies in the past, he never invested in any of these companies because... they lacked strong teams.  Lesson 3: Have a solid business strategy and infrastructure Kevin Harrington also invested in Goldenseed because the company had a legendary network, business strategy and a solid infrastructure of California growers in place. Besides having facilities and permits needed to be among the largest growers in CA, Goldenseed also had the best hemp and CBD processing facility in America. The company was well prepared with the capacity to grow and evolve.  Even if you don't have an established company in place yet, you need to at least think about how you'll do business even before you start. Lesson 4: Don’t give up when rejected You should also be ready to learn from rejection. New Product Pitches have a low success rate if you don't know how to effectively position your idea in a way that causes them to say, “Oh, Tell me More!”.  We've seen classic cases of pitches that were rejected by sharks like Jamie Siminoff's Wi-Fi doorbell but became huge successes because the ideas were refined and realigned to fit the target market needs.  These scenarios and other similar ones highlight the fact that a great product idea can be rejected by venture capitalists and buyers simply because of not being prepared and lack of product viability. If you can’t prove market viability, get back to work and do more research. Remember, how you determine product viability could be the difference between the success or failure of your new product journey. Preparation and understanding how to navigate the process of acquiring this information is key and critical to your potential for success. These are just a few of the many lessons, tips and strategies to help you navigate a new product idea to get it from Mind to Market. We look for these attributes in our new product development clients and mentor them to help effectively narrow the gap from mind to market, and then pave the path to profit.  Learn how to evaluate your new product viability for the market. One of the things Scott enjoys is learning from the successes of others. One of the ways he’s able to do that more effectively is to pass along what he’s learned by teaching you about it. Lately, he's been learning quite a bit concerning retail VS online sales from the television show, Shark Tank. He’s hearing some repeated themes and stories from the show and wants to pass along his observations to you so that you can learn some of the things he’s noticed. So take a few minutes to invest in your own education by hearing what Scott has noticed from the experts on Shark Tank. You’ll be glad you did. Do you understand what “proof of concept” means? One of the things Scott has noticed when he watches Shark Tank is that the investors always ask about sales numbers right from the start. Why do they do that? It’s because sales numbers indicate that there is already interest in the type of product that the newcomer is proposing. That’s called “proof of concept” and it means that there's good reason to expect success with the product you’re wanting to create and sell. Scott’s got some ideas about how you can use the tools provided on Amazon to discover if there’s adequate proof of concept for the products you want to sell, on this episode. Do you have to educate people about your product before they will buy? People come to Scott all the time with a great new product idea that is entirely original. He’s all for new products coming to the market but he also knows that if there're no other products in the market like it then there may not be enough demand to warrant creating the product in the first place. On this episode, Scott’s going to talk about that situation and give you some ideas for what you should do if your DO indeed have an entirely new product. What should you do if you have an entirely original product? Anytime a world-changing new development or technology comes on the scene there’s a ton of work and money that goes into helping the public understand exactly what it is, why it’s needed, and how to use it to best effect. As Amazon sellers, few of us have the resources to launch that kind of product on the scale needed to accomplish all of those things. What should do if you have a world-changing product that nobody’s heard of? On this episode, Scott gives you some suggestions regarding what he would do if he was in that situation. Why do you want your products to be in retail stores? Many of the people who bring product or company ideas to the Shark Tank TV show are seeking investment money because they want to get their products into retail stores. That’s not a bad idea but many times it’s premature given their situation. On this episode, Scott shares what he’s noticed about the advice the “sharks” give those people and relates it to Amazon sales and business. You’ll learn a lot from what he has to share so be sure you listen. OUTLINE OF THIS EPISODE OF THE AMAZING SELLER [0:03] Scott’s introduction to the podcast! Barbara Corcoran doesn’t look far past the family tree for inspiration. While many entrepreneurs seek seasoned businesspeople to learn from, Corcoran’s mentor was her mother, not because her mother managed a company—she didn’t—but because she managed a family. “She ran our little, tiny two-bedroom flat like a corporation,” Corcoran recalls. Everything was organized, and everything had a system. Her mother did a phenomenal job motivating each of the children, helping them do what they did best. “If she had been in business, she would’ve been a tycoon,” Corcoran says. “I wouldn’t have wanted to compete with her.” Common sense was one of her mother’s virtues, and it’s a trait that Corcoran says is vital in business. “I think you have to trust your natural instinct,” she says to aspiring entrepreneurs. Business is about street smarts. It’s not something you can learn in a classroom — you have to do it. That’s exactly what she has done. Corcoran’s resume includes several businesses and millions of dollars, and she’s now a “shark” investor on ABC’s popular Shark Tank TV series. She started young. “I had a flower-of-the-week club when I was in college that failed miserably,” she says. “It was good for a while and then it failed. How did I get that job? I just invented it.” She later founded two real estate companies, including the Corcoran Group, which she started with a $1,000 loan and ultimately sold for $66 million. Corcoran has channeled her experience into her role as an investor on Shark Tank, a reality TV competition that pits entrepreneurs against each other in a contest to pitch their ideas and get big funding. The show’s run includes six seasons, and she’s been along for the whole ride.   In this interview you will learn:   - Barbara's story on how she rose to success - The critical elements she believes it takes to become a successful entrepreneur - A super productivity hack to get the most of your day - Real estate investing tips - What it takes to get your idea funded - What Barbara looks for in an entrepreneur and the companies she invests in - & Much more   I Need Your Help!     If you haven’t already, I would love if you could be awesome and take a minute to leave a quick rating and review of the podcast on iTunes by clicking on the link below. Avoid the Perception of Deception

Whether it is the “Bait and Switch” or the “Ole Switcheroo”, both are detrimental to your success in business and selling. People that intentionally practice these tactics give salespeople a bad name. Unfortunately, good people can give the wrong impression through poor communication. One definition of deceive is to mislead by a false appearance or statement. I am a fan of The Shark Tank TV show that airs Friday nights on ABC. I also record a podcast recapping each episode. One of the components of my podcast is to discuss the quality of the presentations and their sales pitch. In the past few episodes there have been several examples of well meaning people who seem deceptive because of their presentation and the way they answer questions. When these people were asked a direct question they chose to ignore it or give an evasive answer. In one case, the presenter changed the rules of the negotiation in midstream and walked out of the tank without a deal after receiving a one million dollar offer, the largest offer ever recorded on the show. If you want to avoid appearing deceptive in your sales process and negotiations, here are a few tips to consider: 1. Be prepared: You can never be too prepared. Knowing your presentation will boost your confidence while easing your fear and anxiety. 2. Practice: Deliver your presentation to someone who will give you honest, constructive feedback and listen to his or her advice. 3. Anticipate questions: Write down and prepare for possible questions you expect from your audience. 4. Be transparent: Answer questions honestly and directly. Do not be prideful. If you don't know, say, “I don't know, but I will find out.” People will respect you for it. “Take advantage of every opportunity to practice your communication skills so that when important occasions arise, you will have the gift, the style, the sharpness, the clarity, and the emotions to affect other people.” ~ Jim Rohn Have a great week!
