In this episode of Be a Better Lawyer, I'm joined by special guest Christine Uri, an expert in AI governance, ESG, and making companies more profitable, sustainable and human-centric. We dive deep into the world of AI governance and what every lawyer needs to know as AI continues to shape the legal landscape. Christine shares her insights from years of working in-house at a large energy company, where she held roles as Chief Legal Officer and Chief Sustainability Officer, and how that experience has shaped her understanding of AI governance. She also runs her own company, CURI Insights, where she advises general counsel on ESG and AI governance. What You'll Learn Today: Why AI is already part of your work environment, whether you know it or not. The biggest risks with AI use in law firms and corporate settings, including data privacy and confidentiality. How to approach AI use with caution—especially when it comes to client information and sensitive data. Tips on setting AI policies that make sense for your practice or firm. How younger attorneys might fall into the trap of over-relying on AI-generated content without proper oversight. Practical strategies to balance innovation with caution, keeping your data safe and your practice compliant. Why AI literacy training is becoming essential for every legal team. The importance of understanding both state and federal regulations and how to proactively protect your firm. Christine also talks about the evolving landscape of AI regulation, from the EU's AI Act to U.S. state-level legislation, and why lawyers should stay on top of these changes to protect themselves and their clients. If you're curious about how AI could impact your practice—or worried about the potential risks—you'll want to listen in to this episode. Christine's insights will help you think critically about integrating AI into your workflow without sacrificing quality or confidentiality. In The Agenda: What Trump Should Do in His First 100 Days, Joel B. Pollak presents a roadmap for a post-conviction Trump administration. Pre-Order it now >> Kamala Harris in the running has many worried that Trump will be defeated, but Pollak says Trump can rise above the Democrats last ditch effort. “The best way for Donald Trump to take on Kamala Harris is to talk about what he is going to do in the future, not what she has failed to do in the past. As a veteran observer of politics in California as well as Kamala Harris's failed 2020 presidential campaign, I believe that her greatest weakness is policy. In 2019, she struggled to explain whether she would cancel private health insurance or not. She has no convictions, which is why she has no record of achievement. But the best way for Trump to exploit that is to talk about what he will do for the American people, which is why I wrote ‘The Agenda'.” About the Author Joel B. Pollak is Senior Editor-at-Large and In-House Counsel at Breitbart News in Los Angeles, California, and also Editor of Breitbart California. In this episode, we're sharing an interview we hosted last year with Inter Alia Law's Darlene Tonelli. Darlene shared how she connects legal departments and sales departments through good, early communication and a few deliberate systems. She uses the framing of software deals to drive the conversation, but these principles are helpful to anyone trying to get these two classically clashing departments on the same page. We also share information about an upcoming webinar about how understanding the business will make you a better lawyer. In this episode, Arohi Kashyap tears down the Salesforce Data Processing Addendum (DPA). Companies that deal with private data every day may not see managing data as mission-critical. However, as Kashyap points out, corporate counsel needs to understand and manage data risks. Kashyap uses Salesforce's agreement to illustrate a few important principles: •Roles must defined, particularly as they shift during an engagement, •Liability should be clear in the event of a plausible data breach, and •Counsel must understand that not-urgent is not the same as not-important when it comes to data risks. In this episode of the Real Estate for Breakfast podcast, host Phil Coover chats with Chris Fotopoulos (EVP of Legal, Real Estate, and Risk), and Sam Harmelech, of Verano Holdings - a multi-state cannabis operator headquartered in Illinois, harvesting six brands and 120 retail dispensaries in 13 U.S. states – and growing. During their conversation, the group discusses the challenges of navigating the cannabis industry, the cultivation of such an enterprise, and the real estate hurdles of expanding in a highly regulated and ever-changing industry. Chris and Sam also speak on the difficulties of financing, fears, and safety of such an operation and the rapid pace with which the cannabis industry is growing. As Executive Vice President of Legal, Real Estate, and Risk, Chris Fotopoulos began his journey in cannabis law in 2012, as one of the first lawyers leading the charge in navigating the emerging regulatory environment. He was key in the creation of the primary application for what serves as the basis for the Illinois Cultivation Center and the first license for what is now, Verano, acting as their external General Counsel, then In-House Counsel, and now his current position. This week, your hosts Steve Lowry and Yvonne Godfrey interview Bill Stone, James Stone and Ryals Stone of The Stone Law Group (https://www.stonelaw.net/). Remember to rate and review GTP in iTunes: Click Here To Rate and Review New! Watch GTP on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKdeO4IodggpSLyhWVdcWKw Episode Details: The Stone Law Group's trial team -- comprised of father Bill Stone and sons James Stone and Ryals Stone -- explain how they thoroughly investigated a fatal car accident and proved that their client, a promising 19-year-old University of Mississippi student, was not the proximate cause of his own tragic death, as law enforcement investigators initially concluded. In the early morning hours of March 29, 2013, University of Mississippi freshman Price Thornal was attempting to travel from Oxford, Mississippi to his hometown in Tallahassee, Florida to celebrate his father's birthday. Price's Honda Civic was hit head-on by the defendant, who was driving a Dodge Durango on the wrong side of the divided US Hwy 84. Trial lawyers Bill, James and Ryals Stone used the GPS system in Price's car to plot his trajectory and utilized the defendant's cell phone records as evidence of her negligence and opposing trajectory. In spite of the defendant's attempts to cast blame on Price, the Stone Law Group used basic physics as well as expert accident reconstruction to show the jury which car was traveling in the appropriate direction. In November 2021, after just 20 minutes of deliberation, an Early County, Georgia jury found the defendant's negligence to be the proximate cause of Price's death and awarded $26,141,628 in damages.
