As an elite gymnast from a young age, Lisa learned early what it was like to fall down in front of a big audience. And more importantly, she learned how to always get back up and keep going. This perseverance has continued to drive her forward now as an entrepreneur, an investor, a writer, a speaker, and a human.  At the age of 19, Lisa was slated for the 2008 Olympic gymnastics team — her lifelong dream at that point — when she missed the cut by a mere 0.25 of a point, which is the equivalent of one pinky toe's difference.  However, she was able to take this public failure and reframe the experience as an opportunity and a blessing because it taught her how to break herself down and, more importantly, how to pick herself back up and turn into something stronger.

Lisa Carmen Wang has spent a lot of time falling and even more time getting back up. As a rhythmic gymnast, she took home Pan-Am Games gold and was the US National Champion for three years running. In 2015, she founded SheWorx, a platform devoted to launching and scaling female-headed businesses. In this week's episode, she talks to us about her newest project, The GLOW.“How do you get your foot in the door when you aren’t born in a rich family and you aren’t born into these Silicon Valley circles?” she asks. SheWorx provides part of the answer: networks of mentors, peers and allies who can help guide and amplify women's voices in the entrepreneurial space. But Wang knew that the business side was only part of the answer. The GLOW—which stands for The Global League of Women— takes a holistic approach to female success, training women to love their voice, their bodies, and their spirit. The end result? Boosted confidence and what Wang calls "enoughness." In our chat with Wang, we touch on the importance of resilience, how men can be great allies in business (and in life), and the power of a good self-care ritual.

Our guest today discovered her first passion as a gymnast and built a decade long career reigning as a four time US National Champion, culminating in the 2008 Olympic Games and induction in the USA Hall of Fame. As she found herself at the ultimate qualifier for her biggest dream of qualifying for the Olympic games, she felt the immense pressure to achieve and missed the win by a mere 0.25 tenths of a point! This led to feelings of not being good enough, feelings that she didn't work hard enough, and that she was not prepared enough. She asked herself how can she ever again feel great if she feels “not enough?” Meet Lisa Wang. Lisa then quickly found her path into business while knowing that the venture capital landscape is 94% male. She wanted to bring together a network of female founders who had enough of getting overlooked, ignored, undervalued, and assumed inferior. It was great to welcome Lisa Wang, CoFounder of SheWorx on our latest episode who is a force to be reckoned.
