For many, running just one marathon is a life goal and puts you in a category with only .01% of the global population who even attempt this feat each year. But imagine running 111 marathons? Now we are talking about a very select group that has ever pulled off this rare achievement. Michael Kloepfer is one of those special individuals who runs not only for the pure joy of it but for the purpose of raising money to support cancer research at Sloan Kettering. Since he started running marathons in 1996 at age 42 through his most recent New York City marathon finish at age 70, Mike and his team have raised over 1 million dollars to help beat cancer through Sloan Kettering. He has run races all over the world and is a winner of the Abbott medal for completing all 6 world major marathons (and leads all Abbott medal winners with 77 total finishes). He has now run 28 consecutive NYC marathons and is one of 108 people with active streaks over 25 for the Boston Marathon. Of course, any achievement like this doesn't come without challenges which for Mike has included fighting his own cancer in 2024. He has received surgery, is in complete response (successful removal), and is ready to keep going in 2025! Every step is that much more meaningful for Mike now as he continues to make a difference by assisting other patients in need. If you'd like to contribute and help Mike reach his $200k goal (he has already personally raised $100k), go to fredsteam.org and either enter Mike Kloepfer or his team name, Mikey's team. Enjoy this inspirational podcast and listen to the many stories Mike shares about his adventures and people he has met along the way including Grete Waitz, Dr. Howard Scher, and Aubrey Barr (video link tells her story). A word of caution, Mike's story has inspired many, so know by listening to this podcast you may find yourself thinking about joining the marathon craze and running the NYC streets with Mike raising money for Sloan Kettering!  You can listen here or watch here.

The problem with eating iron-rich foods or supplementing with traditional iron supplements is that iron is notoriously difficult for the body to absorb and utilize. In fact, only about 25% of dietary iron found in animal sources is absorbed while 17% or less of the iron from plant sources is absorbed. But MAS Iron has found a way to combat these absorption issues to ensure you can get the iron you need for health and performance. By combining the most efficiently absorbed form of elemental iron with clinically proven ingredients to aid in absorption, MAS Iron performs like no other iron product on the market. In fact, clinical research has shown the combination of ingredients in MAS Iron can quadruple absorption and increase bioavailability by 30%, all while reducing GI issues by 50%. James Robson from the Atlanta law firm of Glass Robson joins this weeks podcast in another great episode. James and his partner, Robert Glass, met in Law School and 10 years ago started their own personal injury firm. James has a diverse background working for one of the largest defense firms in the state and also two of the most successful Plaintiffs lawyers in the state. James talks about how these prior experiences shaped the lawyer he is, the law firm he has created and the way he approaches his case. By way of an example, James recently secured a $4M+ jury verdict. We talk all about this car wreck case and get into the weeds of the trial. James talks about his preparation, strategy and the arguments that resonated with the jury. We talk about what makes a case go to trial and how to prepare clients for the experience. We talk about the appeal process and what it means when a case “is appealed” after a big verdict. Outside of the office James is an adventurous guy. Always looking for his next challenge, James has completed 4 marathons and has now turned his attention to mountain climbing. And not the “hiking” version but the mountaineering version with handholds, footholds and all the things. James just returned from the Grand Tetons and he tells us the itinerary and the process to reach the summit up 13,000 feet. Brock Williams is a 22 year old, 3rd year chiropractic student, who has shifted his life significantly from his days of school yard trouble maker.Brock was never a great student, and spent most of his later years in school giving the teachers grief. Brock grew up thinking he would play some form of elite level sport, but it wasn't meant to be, so from the age of 17 he fell into the cycle of coasting through life, not applying much effort to anything, and drank every weekend away.In an effort to change his life, Brock decided to study chiropractic and make the big move to the city and start fresh. But the real catalyst happened last year when Nedd Brockmann ran across Australia. Brock excitedly checked instagram each night when Nedd was doing his recaps, and something shifted inside him. Brock thought this was amazing. From there, Brock signed up for his first half marathon. He then developed a love for marathons and started noticing a heap of unintentional associated benefits. He was more productive, and more motivated to eat healthy and do more exercise. Brock then ran a marathon in his own time around his home town of Rosedale, and the pride began to swell. He then signed up for the great ocean road 60k ultra marathon, got up each morning at 5am to train, and finished the run while at the same time raising $3,500 for the Starlight Children's Foundation. Brock's focus is now on his mate Xavier who is fighting cancer, by running from Adelaide to Sale in 16 days this December, averaging 62.5km per day. All money raised will go to the Sony Foundation.Brock says the purpose of all this isn't self attention, but the belief that he can play a role in people realising their potential. He also says he doesn't have any god given talents, but wants people to realise that everyone is capable of so much more, and it all comes down to a tiny bit more effort.Sony Foundation - https://www.sonyfoundation.org/Starlight - https://www.starlight.org.au/Socials:FB: Brock Williams Insta: Brock Williams @brockwilliams_training Adelaide to Sale Donate - https://www.sonyfoundation.org/event/brocks-border-run/donateEnjoy the visual here on Youtube

In this episode, Alison tells her running journey and touches on many of the topics that are featured in her book. Let this serve, then, as an inspiration to read her whole story in Running While Black, a book that will certainly become a best-seller and an important read for all runners, especially white runners. On Women's Running Stories, we often feature running journeys that highlight how running is about more than the simple act of putting one foot in front of the other. Alison's story is exceptional in this regard. Her new book is the latest example of how Alison interweaves her running with her commitment to leave the world a better place than it was when she found it. Over the years, she has become a leader in the running world, with a clear, powerful voice. She has shown how running can be a vehicle to create change. She's also working to create change within the running industry so that this sport can some day truly live up to the claim that it is open and welcoming to everyone. Alison not only does the work herself, but also inspires and encourages and helps make space for other people doing the work to move the sport of running toward being a space where everyone feels not only welcome, but that they belong. This episode is sponsored by The Feed, the largest online marketplace for your sports nutrition, offering the brands you know and love, from Skratch Labs, Clif Bar, to Maurten, plus their athlete customized supplements called Feed Formulas. Today I'm talking to Canadian strongman phenom Mitchell Hooper. After just a few short years of elite strongman competition, Hooper burst into the conversation by qualifying for the World's Strongest Man final in his first year at that competition — a meteoric rise in the sport. Now, he has his sights set on more, including world record deadlifts. Mitchell joints the podcast to talk about his broader professional and wellness goes, and he also explains how we made the progression from marathon runner to world's strongest man contender in under 5 years. Before we get into that, I want to give a quick shoutout to today's episode sponsor, Athletic Greens. I first tried Athletic Greens back in 2012. It was already a massively popular daily supplement, and since then, they've undergone dozens of formulation tweaks, each an improvement on the last. It's the rare all-in-one greens supplement that's NSF-certified — a must for competitive athletes — and also tastes delicious (I'm probably a bit biased because I love the subtle notes of pineapple and vanilla). Interested in trying it? Visit athleticgreens.com/barbend to get a free gift with your purchase.
