What’s going on everybody!? Welcome back to the Self Storage Income Podcast, I’m your host, AJ Osborne! I have to say, I get asked a ton of questions about self storage and self storage investing as a whole. But one of the most popular questions I get, especially right now is, “do I buy a storage facility, or do I build a storage facility?” The answer? YES! If your numbers work for you to just buy an already existing facility, and building doesn’t make sense, then you buy existing. If your numbers work better to build than to acquire an existing storage facility, then build! I know the answer doesn’t seem this simple, and yes, there are absolutely factors that we look at to gauge whether or not we want to buy or build a storage facility. But what exactly are those factors to look for or look at? Well, I’m going to share those factors with you on today’s podcast. I’m going to share exactly what we look for, reasons you SHOULDN’T build, key factors that tell me when to buy and when to build, and more. It really comes down to 2 very important keys… that you’ll have to learn about in the podcast today. This is going to be super relevant for everything that’s going on right now, by that I mean lockdown in the UK specifically STARTING to ease. We have a few more options becoming available to us. A little more choice back in our lives. BUT, this question is close to my heart. It’s something I use all the time myself and with clients so I invite you to think about it in the context of right now, but to use it whenever you need to. Anytime you’re feeling anxious, stressed, having a wobble. In a bit of a funk you can’t seem to shake. Feeling overwhelmed or out of control. I find it helpful in any of those situations so I hope you do too. So what do you need right now? We don’t often ask ourselves this do we? We don’t tend to tune in on what NEED, emotional or physiological, is under our feelings that’s not being met. We don’t tend to connect to this on a day to day basis, if ever. Why would we, we’re running off autopilot most of the time, it’s how we’re wired. So our communication with ourselves can sometimes fall a little...flat! So I invite you to tune in just a little bit and ask yourself what you need right now? I’ve been talking to so many people recently, clients, friends, my community on Instagram, who are actually feeling pretty anxious about coming out of lockdown. They aren’t ready, or don’t want, things to go back to how they were. Or perhaps they don’t want them to be different! It’s very individual. We might be feeling the pressure of not quite being where we wanted to be with the time we were ‘given’. Perhaps feeling like we didn’t use it to its full advantage. Forgetting the fact it’s a GLOBAL PANDEMIC and all rules for what we get done in what time frame kind of leave the building. We create these stories around what we ‘should’ be doing. What’s good enough and what’s not. But according to whom? Who says? Who says we should have launched a business, mastered banana bread, learned jiu jitsu, piano and the russian language in this time? There are many people looking forward to getting back to some semblance of normality, whatever that was! But there seem to be the same number, if not more people who DON’T want that. Who have enjoyed being at home. Who have enjoyed a different pace. Whose inner introvert has been having its own pajama party. The people pleasers who have been free from obligation. The perfectionists who have been able to let themselves off the hook a little bit. The people who struggle with family who’ve not had to see them. The people with the toxic friend they just can’t say no to. There are alot of people just simply not wanting to fill up their diaries again! Not wanting to feel like they ‘should’ or ‘have to’ make plans. There is no right or wrong way to feel. There’s just how you feel! You get to be curious about that and if it makes total valid sense, or if there’s another perspective that would be helpful and more beneficial to you, if there’s any self sabotage going on. But it’s for you to challenge. Not other people. That’s not helpful and can just leave you feeling invalidated. I’m not saying blindly follow your feelings, it’s kind of against everything I teach in terms of making the unconscious conscious so it doesn’t rule your life. It’s about being conscious and curious to what’s really going on for you, without judgement. Curiosity is the opposite of judgement. But operating from that place creates some serious magic and can lead to profound changes for you. You get to set boundaries. With other people AND with yourself! It’s an integral part of the reparenting process. The only way you can do that is to tune in to what it is you really need? Those plans with friends who want to all get together...you can say no, thank you. You can be honest and say you don’t feel ready. That anxiety you feel. You can befriend it. Understand it’s there to protect you! Get curious about it instead of trying to push it away and try to hear what it’s trying to tell you. Where do you feel it in your body? Could it be you want to be quiet. Could it be that you want to be on your own. Could it be that you just want more time with your family. Could it be that you need to change your environment. Could it be that you need to be in the company of another person, even if you still can’t hug. Could it be that you need a bubble bath and to meditate. There’s absolutely no judgement to be made, whatever comes up for you. (as long as it’s legal!!) You don’t have to try and be or do anything other than listen to your body. What feels heavy, what feels light? If ever a client is having a wobble. Or they’re stuck in an emotion. Or in a spiral, this question is incredibly grounding and the answer can be surprising. But you have to ask. And you have to listen for the answer. It’s amazing what your unconscious mind will deliver us when we just ask! When we’re not used to talking to ourselves in this way, or listening for the answer, it can feel a little foreign at first. Some ‘stuff’ can come up around worthiness, being good enough, deserving. If it does, just notice it. The more your brain and nervous system knows you want to listen and give it a bit of a voice, the more it will let you. Almost every client thinks I’m a fruit loop when I say these things...until they see the changes and see them quickly. They see how much EASIER life becomes with these tools that we should be taught in schools. Basic, how to be a human! So, instead of feeling consumed by anxiety. Feeling like you can’t tell anyone because you SHOULDN’T feel anxiety. Try this. Get clear on what it is you’re feeling. Share with people because there will be more people than you know feeling the same. I asked in a poll on my Instagram and the majority of people said they were feeling anxious about things changing. So you’re not alone! If you want access to some of my favourite emotional regulation tools and techniques, to understand what really goes on in your body and brain when you’re feeling stressed or overwhelmed, why you go there in the first place and the tools to be able to change that in the moment AND how to rewire your brain and nervous system over time for resilience then I will be looking for beta testers for my new 6 week group programme SOS. Success Over Stress. Now, I’m literally mentioning it on here in this episode because you guys are my inner circle, I won’t be doing a big launch because I want it to be small and the beta round will be a whopping 50% off in exchange for your feedback throughout the programme, which ALSO means you’ll get extra attention and be able to tell me what you need throughout ;-) So if you want to be on less of an emotional rollercoaster in your business and your life then all you have to do is email SOS to hello@franexcell.com or DM me SOS on Instagram and I will give you all the details and answer any questions you have! This is distilling all my been there, done it, got the T-shirt personal experience, my training and qualifications in multiple mind and body modalities and knowing what ACTUALLY works for me and my clients. I wholeheartedly believe it’s going to be a real game changer so I’d love for you to join! I plan to start mid-late April but I won’t be mentioning it on the podcast again so if it’s calling you all you have to do is just email me hello@franexcell.com or DM @imfranexcell. Notice if there’s anxiety bubbling up in you even thinking about it, notice if there’s any resistance, be curious and press send. For things to change, they have to change. So ask yourself, what do I really need right now? Fx
There’s probably no principle more important to growing and scaling a law firm than delegation. Whether it’s identifying the tasks that need to be done, teaching and coaching others to do them, or simply letting go, you’ll be hard-pressed to grow your legal business if you can’t delegate. If you’ve ever wondered how delegation might work in your firm and how to get started, this episode is for you. The COVID-19 global pandemic has accelerated powerful trends in law firm business. Perhaps one of the most obvious is the realization and interest in leveraging technology to delegate common repeatable tasks to contract professionals or even to technology itself. But how does a lawyer or law firm get started with delegation? What tools exist for firms to do this? What should a firm delegate and what should it keep? In this episode of Financially Legal we continue our conversations with Gravity Legal clients with Lindsey Corbin the founder and managing partner of delegate.legal a human capital and technology delegation service. Lindsey and I discuss the keys to delegation, what you should and SHOULDN’T delegate, some of the tools that successful firms are using to unlock the power of delegation and how delegation can help you do more of what you like and less of what you don’t. Buckle up and get ready to delegate.
Today’s episode is another powerful one in my throwback series which will be running over the coming weeks while I take some time to work on my writing. As I’ve mentioned before, I absolutely love throwbacks because they give us all the chance to reflect and see if we have been applying the information and strategies offered in these episodes, and to determine what we may need to do differently or where we may need to take more action in these areas. So once again, whether you’ve heard them before, or whether this is your first time, you are going to get something valuable out of these episodes, which just happen to be some of my favorites, so get your notepad ready and prepare yourself to soak up the knowledge and wisdom that is coming your way. This particular episode features Danielle Liss, a lawyer based in Las Vegas who specializes in streamlining every conceivable legal hurdle for small business owners. To give you an idea of her impressive resume, she’s the founder and CEO of Businessese (which specializes in DIY legal templates), the owner of Liss Legal, the full-time general counsel for an eight figure digital health and fitness company, and, to boot, she’s been named one of the top lawyers in Las Vegas for the last two years. Danielle has also struggled with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) for a very long time, and, after finally receiving treatment for her condition, she now advocates for pushing the conversation about mental health into the open so everybody can become more comfortable with it. In fact, it was while I was coaching Danielle that she chose to address her OCD and not settle for what life and her mind had thrown her way. In this interview, Danielle discusses her history with this condition, explains why sufferers of mental illness should be open to medication and why it’s nothing to be ashamed of, and examines how we can confuse mental illness for some essential part of who we are. By the end of this interview, I hope that her story inspires you and you feel empowered enough to take action in your own life if you, yourself, are struggling. As always, if there is a topic you would like me to discuss or a guest to interview on the podcast, please feel free to contact me at pr@kellytravis.net - I would love to hear from you! The Finer Details of This Episode: - Danielle discusses books and explains why she prefers to listen to non-fiction rather than read it. - How Danielle came to work with me and identify some of the compulsions that were adding to the stress in her life. - What it’s like to live with negative and disturbing intrusive thoughts. - Exploring the fear that treating mental illness can impede some unique aspect of your personality. - Why it’s important to overcome a fear of psychiatric medication, especially if mental illness is affecting your life on a day-to-day basis. - Perhaps the most essential step: finding some outlet, be it a professional or a friend or even a journal, that will help you collate your thoughts. - Which questions you SHOULD and SHOULDN’T ask someone struggling with OCD. - If you don’t have a mental illness, what terms should you use to describe your quirks that don’t co-opt the struggles of those who do deal with them? - TAKE ACTION: if you have thoughts or feelings on this discussion, or your own experiences with mental health that you’re willing to open up about, please share your response to this episode on social media! Quotes: “A piece of me was extremely happy that there was a name for this.” “It’s been a really interesting period of reflection as I have determined what does actually make me succeed.” “If you are struggling, go to a professional, talk to them.” “I am all for what works, but don’t deny it just because it’s dispensed by a pharmacist.” “You’ve gotta have that one person you can break the ice with.” “This diagnosis is a part of me, it’s not all of me.” Show Links: Liss Legal - https://www.lisslegal.com/ Businessese homepage - https://www.businessese.com/ BetterHelp Professional Counseling - https://www.betterhelp.com/ Talkspace Online Therapy - https://www.talkspace.com/ Kelly’s homepage - http://www.kellytravis.net

DRONE TO $1K PODCAST SEASON 3 / EPISODE 7 WITH PHILIP HURST Philip Hurst is the owner of Philip Hurst Media. Introduction Philip got his first drone about a year ago. He was working for an architectural company and had the idea of using a drone for roof inspections. He ended up using his drone to take videos of ongoing construction projects, as well. Philip felt like he was really onto something with drones. He pitched the idea of incorporating more drone work into his job to his boss, but nothing ever really came of it. In the meantime, Philip had been posting his drone work (cinematic videography, 3D mapping, photography, etc.) on Instagram, and it was catching people’s attention. People were reaching out to him, asking if he would do drone work for them. Philip knew he needed to get his Part 107 license so that he could start accepting these jobs and making money. Within a month of getting his drone, he took and passed the Part 107 Exam. Philip was able to get enough business to quit his architecture job, start an LLC, and fly drones full time! “It’s really about the hustle and the drive.” Philip felt lucky to be able to learn how to fly drones with a DJI Mavic because it was pretty easy to fly that drone. He dedicated lots of time to practicing flying and taking photos and videos. He also spent time branding his business and adding more and more content to his Instagram page. David: When you were still working at the architectural firm and starting to use drones for roof inspections, was that when you started practicing a lot? Or did that come later? Philip was practicing during his lunch breaks at work. He actually had his first accident during one of his lunch break flights – on the first day he had his drone! Philip took his drone everywhere. Whenever he had a free moment, he would grab his drone and start practicing. He tried flying in difficult situations, like through tight spaces. He also tried flying the drone towards him so he could practice with the controls being backwards… which ended in a crash. Luckily, his drone was okay, though! David: What was the first job you ever got? Did you reach out to people or did someone come to you? Philip races mountain bikes and knew one of the promoters of a big race. The promoter reached out to him and asked if he could get some drone footage of the race. After that, Philip went on Zillow and found $500,000+ homes. Then, he sent emails to the real estate agents that listed those homes and let them know that he would shoot footage of their listings for free. He said that the first listing would be free, and that his work would help get their houses sold. He sent out about 500 of those emails over the course of two days. He ended up landing about 15 jobs from that email outreach. Philip says that being willing to do free work is very important because it will be hard to land jobs if you don’t have a portfolio of previous work to show your potential clients. “When I send them to my Instagram, the proof is in my work.” Philip sends his potential clients to his Instagram page to see his work. BUT, he also sends them to other drone pilot’s Instagram pages and shows them what they SHOULDN’T want from the drone pro they hire. He’ll point out things like jerky, non-cinematic footage in others’ work, which helps him prove that his footage is smoother and higher quality. David: What part of the country are you in? Philip is in Ohio. He says that he is “the best in the Midwest.” “When it comes down to it, I’m not just a pilot. I’m just also a media professional and I’m a cinematic photographer and videographer. So yeah, I can catch great content and I can do good drone work, but I like to find the value in my end product, because like I said, drone work are just establishing shots to help support a much bigger story.” David: Of the 15 free jobs you landed from your Zillow outreach, how many of those turned into paying clients? Out of those 15, about 8 of them have become routine clients for Philip. Philip is also branching out into other industries. Some of his friends are shooting a pilot for ABC and they asked him to capture some establishing drone shots. Now, Philip’s name is going to be on IMDb! Philip emphasizes that he started about 6 months ago. It’s awesome to see how much his business has grown in just half a year. He says that his drone is one of his most powerful tools. “You gotta put the time in. You gotta grind, you gotta believe in yourself. You gotta have that confidence. You know, you gotta walk the walk and talk the talk. Go out there and look professional.” Philip says that you need to make potential clients feel confident in choosing to hire you as a drone pilot. He also stresses that you need to be posting on all social media platforms. But, you can tailor your messaging on each platform. David: How would you do something differently for Instagram vs. Facebook vs. LinkedIn? For Instagram, Philip will post short, 15-second clips or stories. His Instagram grid is a bit more curated. He’ll curate his Instagram grid based on the seasons or even moods. The coloring and moodiness will change as you scroll down his Instagram feed. His stories are usually behind-the-scenes footage. For LinkedIn, Philip likes to have his feed look a little more polished. As far as TikTok goes, Philip says, “If you’re not on TikTok, you’re missing the boat.” He says that you can reach millions of people on TikTok. He says it’s a great place to brand yourself. David says that one of his friends is on TikTok and that one of his posts got half a million views. One of Philip’s TikToks actually got 5 million views in the first week! Philip says that he treats his drone work very seriously. When he gets home from a shoot, Philip removes his memory cards and uploads all of his footage so it doesn’t get lost. He also unpacks, cleans, and inspects all of his equipment. Philip says he treats his equipment well because it makes him money. He says that networking is very important. If you want to be successful, get to know successful people. You never know who someone may be friends with or who they might be able to introduce you to. Strive to become known as “the drone guy” or “the drone gal” in your town so that people will immediately think of you whenever they (or someone they know) need drone work. Because David started Drone Launch Academy, many times people will reach out to him for drone work. Once, he made $1,300 on a shoot for commercial properties that a friend recommended him for. Philip says that calling himself “the best in the Midwest,” saying his name is “Maverick,” and constantly talking about and posting about drones helps people to associate him with drones. When someone thinks of drones, they usually immediately think of Philip because of the way he’s branded and marketed himself. Other drone pilots have actually reached out to Philip to see if he’d do a tutorial video on how he edits. David says even if you have the best product on the market, if nobody knows who you are, you won’t get much business. You need to be willing to network and marketing your business so people will know about you. Philip says that, “the squeaky wheel gets the oil.” David: Are you doing walk-through videos for real estate? Or are you just doing photos? What’s your typical package for people? Depending on the client and their needs, Philip can do interior and exterior photos (including HDLR photos with bracketing, flash photography, and editing), virtual staging, virtual tours/360 Matterport tours, 3D exterior mapping, cinematography (both aerial and ground), and walk-through video tours. David: What do you charge? For aerial photos, Philip charges $250/hour. His starting price for a video (for an up to $400,000 house) is $350. For houses above $400,000, he charges a $1 per $1,000 listing price for video (for example, for a $3 million home, Philip would charge $3,000 for a video) because there’s usually more places to film in a more expensive home. Also depending on the size of the house, he’ll usually do Matterports for about $300, with a same-day turnaround. For each house, he’ll probably do around 20-50 photos. For 50 photos (which are edited and use HDLR, flash photography, removal of chips on walls, and other high-touch edits), he charges about $400. He adds extra finishing touches to his photos and videos because he wants to help sell the house. Of course he needs to make money with his business, but he really wants to build relationships with people and help them sell their houses. David: It sounds like you’ve been making money in the real estate area, but you’ve also gotten some other interesting jobs, like the mountain biking thing. Do you have any other, more outside-of-the-box jobs? What’s one of your favorite, non-real estate related gigs you’ve gotten? Philip really likes doing product photography and brand marketing. He’s shot footage of wakeboards, boats, and outdoor events. He’s also working with models to create demo reels for their modeling career. He also has a couple of weddings booked. David: You said you started about 6 months ago. What would you say is your average revenue per month? Philip says that he’s making about $3,000/month. He makes sure that a percentage of his revenue goes back into the company, a percentage goes towards being able to buy new equipment in three years, and a percentage goes to him, and a percentage is put aside for taxes. David points out that if you have a W2 job, the government will hold your taxes… but if you have your own business, you are responsible for putting aside money for taxes. Philip says that he’s actual had someone tell him that he’s not charging enough for his drone services. If you’ve been trying to get something done for a while and every time you think about it your eyes roll to the back of your head… If you can’t seem to sit your butt down long enough to make progress on that project you’ve been meaning to get done… It’s likely that there is something about the tasks is triggering you emotionally The magnitude of the project has you feeling overwhelmed and bringing up all your issues about not having enough time. It’s something you hate doing (but maybe there’s nobody else to do it, or at least that’s the way it feels). You lack and experience and competence. (Maybe it’s the first time you’re doing this.) Your lack the knowledge and feel a bit stupid because you don’t really know HOW to do a lot of aspects of the project. You don’t know where to start and the right order or things. Or, what to focus on. Often we have our butt on the chair doing, doing, doing, but we are not specifically focused on the tasks and projects that make the most difference to our business. We’re tinkering with things that are in our Zone of Incompetence. Thinkings ‘if it is to be, it’s up to me’. Or, we’re tinkering with things that SURE, we can do… but they’re not the most effective use of our time and someone else could possibly do them FASTER, and with less HASSLE and ultimately, LESS COST. And, we tinker with things that we SHOULDN’T be doing at all. Things that are not really moving the needle towards our ultimate goals. Maybe we’re doing things that NOBODY should be doing, tasks that are not aligned to your goals and objectives and your vision. So, how do you finally get your butt on the seat and get unstuck and make progress? Listen to hear how to finally sit your butt down, get past this stuck point and make progress on your most important projects. Be sure to follow Cured here, Legion here, and myself here and refer to all other entry rules mentioned in the show. Today's show is a deeeeeep dive, so buckle up. First and foremost, a disclaimer that I think is, or at least should be, relevant to any podcast you consume or really any content you consume ever. For one, you don’t have to agree with every single thing a guest says. We’re all different, and that’s the beauty of both humanity and podcasting. Secondly, go into this with an open mind. We do talk a lot about spirituality and psychedelics in this episode, so proceed at your own risk. Today we have a crowd favorite back on the show: the one, the only, Nick Komodina. Nick is a long time friend, basically my brother. He first came on the show back in 2019 with one of the most shared episodes that EMBody Radio has ever had. On today’s show, we’re basically giving you your intro into personal growth in 2021. We’re going over Nick’s journey into meditation, what it’s done for him, why people struggle to go inward, how to set yourself up for TRUE, LASTING success in the new year vs continually beating your head into the wall and not getting anywhere, and Nick’s experience with psychedelics, including his recent trip during the great conjunction that absolutely changed his life. SHOW NOTES -Nick’s morning routine -how Nick got into meditation -“JUST BE” and getting out of the chaos addiction trap -shifting from “I’m not doing enough” to doing higher quality, more intentional things -the “fly at the window” analogy -why you’re scared of meditation and time inward -ending your abusive self-relationship and drawing your “separation line” -why you SHOULDN’T set a fitness goal as part of your new year’s resolution, and where to “place” your resolutions instead -asking the uncomfortable questions, like “Where do I suck?” -Being bold in your goals -Why specific goal setting helps you actually reach the goals you have -Triggers as opportunities -Psychedelics -Nick’s first mushroom journey -the great vortex The Great Conjunction and the trip that changed Nick’s life -Nick’s universal + spiritual awakening/”death” -accessing your TRUE reality and self in a world that shies against it -some pitfalls with western medicine and blood work -standardized society and the “box” of modern culture and the resulting lack of creativity and open thought -getting off the “track” -showing up differently in his life after his cosmic experience with psychedelics -being who you truly ARE -start with your frequency -this is your SIGN -Nick’s top tips for heading into a new year and what to invest in Where to find Nick Pre order an IMPAKT planner here (limited availability) Inquire to join Team EDF to reach your biggest goals this year WHERE TO FIND ME: Instagram YouTube Website (sign up for the email list here!) Do your employees have clarity? I played high school lacrosse growing up. Loved it! And I was new to the game when I first started playing...barely knew any of the rules, but I was a decent athlete, so I got on the field early on. I remember our coach yelled almost non-stop at the games. He would be hoarse at the end of every game because he screamed the whole time! I’ll never forget, during the first half of one of my first games, he started screaming at me after I picked up a ground ball. “GET IT IN THE BOX! GET IT IN THE BOX! GET A TOUCH IN THE BOX!” I had a guy guarding me, and by this point I was tuning out my coach and the non-stop noise being yelled from the sidelines. Next thing I knew, the referee is blowing his whistle and it was a turnover going the other way. I immediately get pulled out of the game and the coach is just ripping into me. Veins on the side of his neck popping out...and I learned a few new 4 letter word combinations I’d never thought of before. “Joyner, why didn’t you get it in the box? What’s wrong with you?” I’ll never forget what I said as I yelled back at him, “Coach what does get it in the box even mean!” I’m laughing right now, because my coach had never explained this rule to me before. Whenever there’s a turnover, you have 15-20 seconds to carry the ball through “the box” on the field and establish a possession. His anger immediately subsided and he laughed as he realized I couldn’t be responsible for something he had never taught me. He just looked at me and said, “That’s on me Joyner, we’ll get you back in there in a minute.” I laugh at this, because this situation is no different from the business world. I sit in Coaching meetings with business owner’s that are ready to fire an employee because their work is trash and they won’t do this or that. My question is always, “Well have you trained them on that?” It’s always so funny to see there reaction. 9 times out of 10 they realize, I’m trying to hold them accountable for something that they don’t even know is on their job role. So why does this happen so frequently? Well, typically we assume things are common knowledge...typically we assume that they SHOULD know that. Listen to this please, they SHOULDN’T know! What is common to you is not common to me! And, ultimately, your employees cannot be responsible for things you have not communicated just like it wasn’t my fault when I didn’t know the rules on the lacrosse field. That’s why job roles are so important. We have every client build crystal clear job roles for every position in their business. It’s that important. They go over it with them, ask for any questions and record every process that they’re responsible for. Why? So that when you go back to critique their work you can know if 1) They’re being lazy and not doing it correctly, 2) The process needs to be tweaked, as it doesn’t work, or 3) There is lack of clarity on the totality of the process. It’s so important to give your employees the gift of training so they can adequately accomplish the job you’ve hired them to do. It keeps them from being frustrated and you from being frustrated with them! So, the next time you are upset with an employee, ask yourself where the blame lies. Is it actually your fault, as the owner, for failing to give them a 100% clear job role and training? If so, you’ve got work to do on your end. Don’t let your employees underperformance be a result of your unwillingness to help them succeed. It matters and will be a GAME CHANGER for your business! Have a great day!
Let’s talk about guests on your podcast. I get asked about this A LOT. Here’s the question you SHOULDN’T be asking about having guests on your podcast: Should I have guests: yes or no? Instead, the question I really want you to be asking is: WHY? WHY would you have guests on your show? This adds STRATEGY to your question and opens up the conversation to how having guests will benefit you, your business, and your listeners. Welcome to this week’s episode of How to Love Your Body.A reminder to Please rate and review if you find our podcast helpful in any way!Today we are talking about a very common fear and that is keeping food in the house (anything “bad” of course). Why do we fear this?Because we feel out of control around food, like we cant be trusted around it, we just think about it until we give in, say screw it, eat it all, and then promise we won't buy it again. Is this food addiction? Is this a lack of willpower? How come other people can keep chips in their pantry and ice cream in their freezer and it’s not gone in a day? They can just eat it in a normal way? There must be something wrong with me, I’ll just have to control myself forever, I’m just different and that’s the way it is.This is not food addiction, has nothing to do with willpower and you aren’t different - you’re just restricting.Dieting, trying to be “healthy” or good, eating in moderation, being sensible, WW, or Keto, whatever you call it - not allowing all food and listening to your body is considered restriction.NOTE: Some people ask, I’m eating the food, why isn’t it getting better? - mental allowing is key too, having a healthy relationship with food is also needed! If you feel bad for eating the food or are stuck in retaliation of dieting, there are still some steps to take to get to freedom. All this is being said so that you KNOW it can be different, you aren’t different or weird or just lack will power and you are NOT addicted to food, yes even you :).Diet culture teaches us that we need to control MORE that it’s our fault if we’re weird with food - but it isn’t and that just makes it worse - making you more likely to run back to another diet next week - the diet industry is brilliant. It causes a problem and then sells the solution, over and over and over until we die.Well we’ve seen the truth - ALLOWING food and repairing your relationship with food and your body is the key to being normal with food and be that person who can have the chips in the pantry and the ice cream in the freezer and eat them like any other food - enjoying it when you want and not worrying about it when you don’t.Here are 3 steps to take to move towards being comfortable having any foods in your house with ease and enjoyment:Like Jenna always says - she could live in a grocery store and would eat the same.Step 1: Know, understand and believe that you aren’t weird with food, these fears and food obsessions have nothing to do with you as a person, you’re just another cog in the diet culture machine! Know and believe that allowing food and ditching diet culture, and repairing your relationship with food and your body will heal this. 100%, yes even you.In order to move forward with confidence you need to know that this is possible, or when it takes a bit of time and experimentation, it makes it really easy to say SEE ITS ME! I’m just like this.Step 2: Start slowly allowing all foods - this is a step that you may already be doing, if not start introducing a few things you’ve been wanting to eat. Such as bread, real salad dressing cheese, chocolate, peanut butter, ice cream, etc. If you ARE physically allowing food, start assessing your beliefs around the food/ your relationship with these foods - do you feel like you really SHOULDN’T be eating this food? Not eating this much of it? Really SHOULDN’T be having dessert every night? This is still going to feel restrictive and the effects of allowing won’t be in full effect. Work on identifying shoulds and start questioning them! What if I do want dessert every night for the rest of my life? What if that lets me live a life that is less about food and my body and more about living? Does trying to restrict dessert work? What do I end up doing when I don’t let myself enjoy the things I want (binge eating, food preoccupation etc)Step 3: Start listening to your body when eating these wonderful foods. We ignore our bodies when we go into “Screw it i’m going to eat it all” mode so we just polish off what's there and feel like crap after! One way to do this is to buy a lot of the item that you obsess over when it's in the house. So much that you couldn't possibly eat in one sitting (if you can afford it, this is a privileged approach). This way there isn’t the option to just eat it all and get it out of the house, you’ll have to rely on your body signals to decide when you’re done. Why does it matter if we keep food in the house? It helps solidify the idea that food is just food and is abundant (and not scarce like it feels in dieting -- this is different from true food scarcity which is another issue). When you can have dessert at home anytime you want, that dinner out just becomes another meal, you might order dessert, you might not, but it's just food. You can enjoy life experiences, really BE with people and have fun without it all being about the food and deciding if you’re going to be “good” or go wild tonight!NO MORE! Just eat the food you want and carry on.Just a reminder that this is possible for every single person. It takes time and some energy to rewire your thinking and habits but you can do this!If you want support in this we’d love to invite you into our Riding Out 2020: Intuitive Eating and Body Image MembershipThis is a powerful group that includes weekly live coaching sessions, worksheets, daily prompts and room to ask questions in the group and get daily coaching. Now more than ever, getting a grip on your finances is crucial to your peace of mind. Many seek out a financial advisor for help, but what if the advisor works in a system that incentivizes less advice, more fees, and ultimately more people feeling lost? To challenge this model, Eric Simonson founded Abundo Wealth, a financial planning company that charges only a flat fee to offer unlimited advice and resources to individuals and businesses. On this episode, Sharran and Eric discuss the smart way to tackle your debt, what to consider when browsing life insurance, the $10,000 question about cars, and the concrete steps to help you take control of your life. “It’s life-changing for people to feel less stressed and more empowerment around money.” - Eric Simonson In This Episode: - What the most common finance questions REVEAL about people - A WINNING formula for your finances - Why you SHOULDN’T pay off your mortgage immediately - How to feel EMPOWERED about money - An affordable, no-stress approach to life insurance - Should you buy or lease your car? - What parents can do RIGHT NOW for their children - How to push through anxiety and take CONTROL of debt Connect with Eric: -https://www.abundowealth.com/ ( Website) - https://www.linkedin.com/company/abundowealth/ (LinkedIn) - https://www.facebook.com/AbundoWealth (Facebook) - https://www.instagram.com/abundo_wealth/ (Instagram) Connect with Sharran: - https://www.sharran.com/ (Website) - https://www.linkedin.com/in/sharran/ (LinkedIn) - https://www.facebook.com/likesharran (Facebook) - https://www.instagram.com/sharransrivatsaa/ (Instagram) - https://twitter.com/sharran (Twitter)
To support this ministry financially, visit: https://www.oneplace.com/donate/207/29 On todays Bible Answer Man broadcast, Hank highlights a chapter in Clay Jones book, Immortal: How the Fear of Death Drives Us and What We Can Do About It. The chapter came to mind when Hank received a call this weekend from his brother who informed him about a friend who recently passed away, seemingly out of nowhere. As laid out in the chapter, it doesnt matter how good your eating habits are or how meticulous you are about your health, because we all will die. Today, many people hope that if we keep our bodies healthy enough through proper diet and exercise, medical science will one day do what it was always supposed to do: find a cure to everything that might kill us, and then we can coast to immortality. Thus many obsess over exercise, eating enough healthy foods, and avoiding unhealthy foods. We have people who are telling you that coffee is bad for you, and then they say that coffee is good for you. There was a fad where people wouldnt eat eggs as they thought eggs were bad for you, now were told that eggs are good for you. People will do just about anything to squeeze just a few more months or weeks or even days out of their life here. But our hope, says Hank, needs to be in an eternal life that is available through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Hank also answers the following questions: I heard that first-century Jewish Christians continued to attend the Jewish temple years after the new covenant had been inaugurated. That seems like an abomination that the Apostles would not have permitted. What do you say about that? Shouldnt we pursue good health since our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit?

What is the most powerful tool that you as a leader can use to motivate your team? RECOGNITION. And here’s why... Believe it or not, but recognition is actually a stronger motivator than money for many people, especially when they’re first starting out. However, most leaders are only recognizing those people that hit the BIG GOALS, like rank advancements, big bonuses, or earning the big trip. I’m not saying that you SHOULDN’T recognize leaders for these achievements; however, it’s also important that you consider the 99% of your team that are struggling to even take action towards their goals. You must learn to recognize people for not only their big accomplishments, but also recognize that are putting out the effort and taking action towards their goals. In the process of creating a culture of recognition, you are also cultivating Success Stories that you can share with your prospects as well! Tune in as I share with you how to create ideal success stories and how you can cultivate it to motivate your team. If you have questions, text me at (215) 608-1454, and let me know what do you need help with, what issues are your struggling, and what topics you want me to cover in future episodes. Something that I see with, pretty much, every single client I work with that has a personal service based business is this underlying feeling of a ‘need’ to always be perfect at what they teach or do. I also see it a lot in management in the corporate world too. Today I'm calling BS on it. It’s a bonkers, unrealistic expectation. For a business coach to always have the answer in their own business, for someone who teaches parenting to always be the perfect parent, for someone who teaches mindset to always have the perfect mindset. Come on! Let’s put this in some perspective shall we? I believe all good coaches have coaches or support of some kind. I think it’s always a good question to ask when you’re choosing your own coach or mentor. Business coaches will have other business coaches and mentors to learn from. People who work in mindset can’t see their own unconscious blocks….that’s the point...it’s unconscious! If something is hiding where you’re not looking you’re not going to find it are you?! If you already knew everything, how would you learn? Who would you learn from? How would you ever grow? Sometimes something is so deeply hidden by our ego we just can’t see it ourselves, no matter how hard we’re looking. It’s as if the more you look the more elusive that pesky unconscious belief is that’s getting in your way. I have psychologists, mindset coaches and therapists as clients. It could trigger me that perhaps they know more about certain things than me. They hire me based on my ability to help them. It’s not about comparing letters after our names. And as an eternal student I get EASILY sucked in to that sometimes. The need for more and more qualifications. Real world experience has a huge amount of influence over how you work. It’s time we all stop judging ourselves so harshly. If there’s an obvious knowledge gap, fill it! But don’t deny yourself help, support and growth because your ego gets in the way. I actually love the fact I don’t know it all because this field of human behaviour seriously fascinates me. I LOVE learning more. At the moment I'm looking into the mind body connection a lot so I’m looking at things like Kinesiology, breathwork, Tai Chi, Qigong to name a few...and in typical Fran style I’m looking for the ways to bring it down to earth a bit. Practical woo if you like! Love me some hard evidence! I’m definitely thinking about how I can incorporate some of these things into my work. But for me it’s about being an eternal student. It’s about being aware that you don’t know what you don’t know and watching out for triggers. But also not seeing them as negative things. Learning and honing your skills is an ongoing journey, whatever field you’re in. I had a corker recently, I was working on one belief that I'd unearthed...and another completely random….never thought there was even a hint of an issue...kind of belief came up that made SO much sense in SO many different parts of my life. A HUGE one! Linked to so many other things. Now, I could have easily left it where it was...nice and comfy cozy in my unconscious. But if I tackle it….magic is gonna happen! I’m not here for mediocre and I hope you aren’t either because you deserve SO much more. I never would have found that by myself! I have a rule of not sharing issues before they’re worked on because I want you to learn the lessons...not leave you high and dry going ‘OH GOD ME TOO I HAVE THAT...now what?!’ but I know there will be a lot of you who can relate….it’s a super personal subject so i’ll be asking the family to avoid those episodes ha!...SO I promise I will share more in the future because it’s a doozy! It’s not related to business at all (everything always links back to it in some way though because life is SO interconnected) but i’m finding it SO fascinating and eye opening. Its hard work of course, it takes a lot of energy and it’s really not fun to look at this stuff sometimes...but I LOVE this stuff. It’s the next layer of the onion I keep talking about. It fits in really nicely with why I wanted to do this episode for you. Pretty much every single person who works in mindset that comes to me, in our first session, without fail it’s as if they feel the need to explain that it’s ‘the last thing’ that needs sorting that’s standing in their way. It’s as if there’s an expectation that they would always have the perfect mindset and behaviour and SHOULDN’T have their own struggles in life and certainly shouldn’t be talking to another mindset coach about mindset! POPPYCOCK people! There’s ALWAYS something else to work on, ALWAYS another layer but that’s the good stuff because each one goes that little bit deeper. I spend a small fortune on my own personal development (Courses, qualifications, my coach etc) because I love it, it fascinates me. But it also makes me better at what I do. I don’t profess to know all the answers. None of us can. NONE of us. If we start believing we should, we’ll never get better at what we do. We’ll always feel like we need to hide elements of ourselves. Our shadow comes out to play. When we suppress it or ignore it our struggles will go on longer than they need to because we put off getting someone to help us work on it. It’s time to let go of the need to have ALL the answers. There are days when you simply won’t practice what you preach. You’ll get lazy because it can be hard work, you’ll fall into old habits because you’re tired, or you’re triggered. You’re a human being and we all have off days. Give yourself a break for the love of all things holy! Our mess is our message right, it’s so often that you teach what you need to learn. That’s what continuing development is for.It keeps us doing the work on the thing we need to the most. We all have our Ego, we all have our unconscious programming and triggers. Where you go in times of stress is often back to old unconscious patterns that served you well in the past. You have to have compassion for yourself here. If you’re listening and resonating please do reach out and let me know because this needs to stop. This shame around not knowing everything and being seen to be perfect. This is why I talk about my patterns, my bad days, issues that come up for me. It’s important to have the full picture. I’m constantly saying the same thing to my clients too when they beat themselves up for having a bad day. You’re human, you need polarity so you can appreciate the good stuff and live with gratitude. Let go of unrealistic expectations of yourself. You can’t give yourself a good haircut, let someone else hold the mirror for you. Have someone hold you accountable to yourself. If you shut down being open to learn from other people in your field, you stunt your own growth and development. You strive to be an expert and you’re actively stopping yourself getting there. You slow down your own growth. Everyone needs at the very least a sounding board. The ability to sense check things. So give yourself a break. You will NOT be PERFECT at what you teach all day every day because you’re a human being. Can you imagine being at the stage where you didn’t need to learn more about what you do? It’s bonkers to think it’s possible. How boring would it be?! Continued professional and personal development is part of the fun of having your own business. You see the evidence of “you teach best what you need to learn most” which is a quote from Richard Bach, everywhere. Most people that do have a story of how they overcame something big and that’s how they go on to teach it…me included. But they continue to learn and grow. This stuff doesn’t stop. That’s a good thing. You’d stagnate if it did! You actively learn more when teaching others too. When there’s a question you can’t quite answer what do you do? You go research it and find the answer...but you CAN be honest about not having it at that moment. Just make sure your prices are in line with your level of expertise, that you have the support you need and you’re good to go….without the imposter syndrome! So seek the help and support you need. Don’t stay stuck because you feel you shouldn’t be. Fx
