The family of Renee Good, an American woman shot and killed during an ICE operation in Minneapolis in January, has filed two civil lawsuits against the Trump administration, alleging she posed no threat to federal agents when she was shot. The lawsuits seek damages for wrongful death, battery, assault, and other charges. In March 2014, 33-year-old James Attfield was found brutally murdered in Castle Park in Colchester, Essex. Just a few months later, 31-year-old Saudi Arabian student Nahid Almanea was attacked and killed while walking along a secluded footpath on her way to the University of Essex. The two murders appeared to have little in common, but detectives soon began asking whether they could have be committed by the same perpetrator.For the people of Colchester, the possibility that a killer was randomly targeting strangers was deeply unsettling. Improving bar profitability rarely comes from one big change. More often, it comes from fixing dozens of small problems across your costs, revenue, operations, staff, and guest experience.In this episode, I break down my 50-lever framework for improving your bar, why searching for one magic fix can keep you stuck, and how small operational improvements can compound into meaningful changes in profitability.I get into finding the small levers hiding inside your pour cost, labor scheduling, guest check average, service, training, and overall guest experience; how to audit your operation to determine which changes matter most; and why trying to fix everything at once usually fails. A stunning twist in the case of Wilber Rafael Garcés Pérez, the 28-year-old Venezuelan man shot by an ICE officer during a stop in Austin. Now, Garcés Pérez is the one facing federal charges and potentially up to 20 years in prison. In an EXCLUSIVE interview with Don, his attorney Kate Lincoln-Goldfinch says his legal team was effectively shut out as the charges unfolded and raises serious concerns about his treatment in federal custody. Garcés Pérez still has a bullet lodged in his body, according to his attorney, who says he has not received the medical care he needs. DHS says he is receiving appropriate treatment. Meanwhile, major questions remain about what happened during the encounter, including why the ICE officer who shot Garcés Pérez was not wearing a body camera.
