Welcome to another episode of the Testing Peers. Chris, David and Russell are joined by Bruce for this one to discuss the topic of "Square Peg, Round Hole" and how we sometimes may not always feel like we or some tools fit and how we can address those challenges.Bruce starts with the banter and asks everyone what gets them up in the morning, everything from running, coffee and children are mentioned as things that get us started every day.Chris starts off the topic by asking about using the wrong tools for the job, the peers dive into looking at overengineering or under-engineering, automation tools, traceability matrices and also how our systems can sometimes be used in a way that wasn't intended.Where have you experienced Square Pegs in Round Holes?ContactUs@TestingPeers.comTwitter (https://twitter.com/testingpeers)LinkedIn (https://www.linkedin.com/company/testing-peers)Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/testingpeers/)Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/TestingPeers)We're also now on GoodPods, check it out via the mobile app storesIf you like what we do and are able to, please visit our Patreon to explore how you could support us going forwards: https://www.patreon.com/testingpeersSaffron QA is a provider of recruitment and consultancy services, exclusively for the software testing industry. You can find out more at https://saffronqa.co.uk/ or on LinkedInSupport the Show.
On this episode your co-host Dr. Joe Hamlett and Dr. Dave Peltz bring on a very special guest Caren Cooper. During this episode Caren Cooper is going to tell about her experiences with trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. Many of us have probably heard that saying in reference to you or someone else. For the most part many of us can relate to that expression because many of us have been put in that position at one time another in our lives. with that said, what is most important is the fact that we must learn to celebrate our uniqueness rather than trying to fit in. We should also remember embrace our uniqueness, because know is like you. Even as a kid we were taught that we had to conform to get a long rather than celebrate and embrace who we truly are. Although we recognize it is easier said than done, we must make an attempt to be who we are. This all starts with self-worth and self-love. We must start with believing in who we are rather than believing who others want us to believe we are. This week, we dive back into our series on “How to be Missional” by looking at conversations. We will look at the idea that there is not a one-size-fits all box for having spiritual conversations. We close out with a few examples of how you might talk to someone about the gospel. Our main passage this week is: Colossians 4:2-6.

Today we discuss media production with founder of Four/Ten Media, Evan Chapman. Based in Philadelphia, Evan Chapman is a percussionist, composer, and filmmaker who has built a prolific and unique career by seamlessly blending multimedia and contemporary music. Chapman is a founding member of contemporary-classical percussion trio/rock band Square Peg Round Hole, whose original compositions have been dubbed a “creative adventure” by Bob Boilen (NPR) and have received further acclaim from Modern Drummer Magazine, Paste Magazine, and Mental Floss, among others. FOUR/TEN MEDIA is a production company born from the partnership between filmmakers/percussionists Kevin Eikenberg and Evan Chapman. Kevin and Evan's unique background as classically trained percussionists has allowed the duo to create fresh and musically authentic visual representations of works in the contemporary classical and pop worlds. Four/Ten's client list includes internationally-acclaimed artists such as the New York Philharmonic, Steve Reich, Caroline Shaw, the Bang on a Can All-Stars, Sō Percussion, David Lang, Son Lux, Alarm Will Sound, The Crossing Choir, Third Coast Percussion, and many more. Their work has been featured by major press outlets including The New York Times, Alternative Press, NPR, Mental Floss, Paste Magazine, Q2 Music, and I Care if You Listen, among others. Evan is sponsored by Zildjian Cymbals, Vic Firth Drumsticks, Evans Drumheads, and SJC Custom Drums. https://fourtenmedia.net/ https://www.evanmchapman.com/ https://www.instagram.com/evanmchapman/?hl=en https://youtube.com/evanmchapman Four/Ten Media (2024 Reel) Music for Wood and Strings
Today's bonus episode follows the 2 part interview with Davit Baghdasaryan, Co-Founder & CEO of Krisp - a software tool that maximizes the productivity and impact of every conversation by eliminating noise distractions, increasing the fidelity of voice communication, and transcribing and synthesizing the most relevant details and analytics from every voice interaction. Many founders build their technology and only then try to figure out what industry it's best applied to. In the case of Davit, they had 24 different use cases they were trying to present to the market, which caused them to struggle with their business model. They had to learn how to say “no” to alternative segments and use cases and pursue becoming market leaders in their niche. Diluting your positioning and strategy might work once you're an established brand with tons of resources to burn, but as a startup it's a losing strategy that will often steer you away from a winning strategy. In today's market people expect their products to be highly personalized and catered to their problems. Even if you have the best technology in the world, by sacrificing your positioning and refusing to niche down, competitors who get it right will run laps around you because their product is an exact fit for solving an individual problem.Tune into the full episode to learn how to approach GTM as a technical founder!Don't forget to subscribe to the Chaos to Clarity Podcast for more invaluable episodes to help you grow your business and stay ahead of the curve! To reach out to Eric, visit ChaosToClarity.io
With so much information at our fingertips, it's often hard to resist the temptation to try the "next big thing." From monitoring HRV to intermittent fasting to lactate testing- you name it, there is someone out there on social media- a brand, a magazine, an influencer, a friend- touting its benefits. We can be left second guessing our own training, fueling, or recovery methods. Today's episode focuses on trying not to fit a square peg in a round hole, aka, what's good for the goose might not be good for the gander...and all of the other sayings that mean, "What works for one person, might not work for you." Have a listen!
Making it work. Getting it done. Powering through the problem. This way of thinking has its value AND it's also a colossal contributor to the mess that is our world. After all, if someone doesn't speak a language, talking more slowly and loudly in that language to them, doesn't work. If you hit an obstacle, backing up and running at it harder MIGHT get you through - but at what cost? In this week's episode a discussion of what it means to find the way that actually GETS the square peg into the round hole. Or in this video that I reference in the episde, a star-shaped peg. It's about being a generalist in a seemingly specialized world. It once was a given that we'd grow up with broad knowledge and experience and specialize over time. Then someone figured out that getting specialized early got you ahead - faster, earlier. A good thing, right? Maybe. Studies show that this works early and in the long run, doesn't. In his book “Range: Why Generalists Triumph in a Specialized World”, Journalist and Author David Epstein explores this very point - with some very powerful conclusions. He's not a guest on this episode (but yes, I intend to fix that for a future episode). In a world where what passes for radical honesty usually means someone is just letting things fly outta their pie-hole without much care for others, it's time for radically authentic conversation. Conscious communication is simple, but often isn't easy. That's why Cathy Brooks created Talk, Unleashed – a weekly podcast of radically honest conversation about — everything. Whether her own musings or in conversation with industry leaders, each episode invites curiosity. Curiosity not about what people do, but why they do it. Who they are and what makes them tick. It's about digging underneath to reveal the thing that is most true - that we are more alike than we are not. A mix of solo episodes where Cathy shares her insights and experience or Cathy engaged in conversation with fascinating humans doing amazing things. No matter the format - it's unvarnished, radically honest and entirely unleashed. This podcast compliments Unleashed Leadership, the coaching business through which Cathy works with symphony orchestras, corporate clients, and individuals to help them unleash and untether their leadership and connect with others in a way that truly engages. #Range #davidepstein #beageneralist #consciouscommunication #leadership #Conversation #connection #TalkUnleashed #fiercecompassion #UnleashedConversation #UnleashedLeadership #FixYourEndofTheLeash

James and Aidan kick off their second episode by examining the Boston Bruins' strong start and the effect Charlie McAvoy's return will have. They touch on Rick Bowness' high-flying Jets before looking at a couple of teams lower in the standings; first, the Columbus Blue Jackets, now without Zach Werenski for the year, followed by the Calgary Flames, whose struggles haven't yet drowned their playoff hopes. Switching gears to junior; Connor Bedard continues to pile up the points as James and Aidan compare his pace to other #1 overall picks. They move on to International hockey, first discussing how Canada will build around Bedard at (likely) his last World Juniors, followed by a word on the NHL's decision to push the World Cup of Hockey back to 2025. They wrap up with a game of “Career Trajectories” and James' thoughts on which current NHL teams in playoff positions will finish the year in a playoff spot. Podcast produced by Gareth Baird.
Have you heard the phrase (or used the phrase) I need to put on my face? It's an idiom about putting on makeup; however, the concept can be applied in much broader terms. Because we all put on a “face” of sorts. Our face (or public persona) is the outward identity we reveal to others which may or may not portray the true, authentic you. In this episode, I talk about the idea of not only taking off your mask but actually choosing to not even put on your face in the first place. What would happen in the world if we followed this challenge? What if we let other people see our blemishes and brokenness? Would we be better as a society? Would we be healthier as the human race?If you've listened in the past, you already know my answer to those facetious questions. If you're new to Square Peg Round Hole, welcome. You're about to know my answer, too. But regardless of how long you've been listening, I believe you will be brave enough to break some rules to become your true, authentic self in this artificial world. Cheers!Send us a text message. Conversations don't have to be confrontations. They can simply be honest, transparent, and vulnerable dialogue. But how do you create conditions for productive discussions? Simple. You come to the table ready to listen and learn something new about the other person. And you come without the need to prove a point. This week on Episode 10 of Square Peg Round Hole, I invite you into an authentic conversation I had recently with my friend and colleague, Erica Schimelpfenig, President of YouthWorks. Erica and I began this discussion a couple of years ago, and I have been anxious to return to the dialogue ever since—because I want to understand her point of view.As you'll hear, Erica and I come from two different worlds. She is a woman of color. And I am a white man. But we share a similar outcome and objective—to make sure no one feels alone. So Listen if you want your thoughts challenged. Listen if you want to hear transparent points of view. Listen if you want to make our planet a better place for people to live!Send us a text message. We'd love to hear from you! Thanks for listening. Living a life of authenticity isn't a strategy. It's a state of being. Being a person who doesn't give in to the whims of others or even the ways of the world to impress or get ahead. Because when our motivation is to please people, we pretend. We put on masks which is a miserable way to live. But that's how life works, right? That's what many people think and how most survive. And that's why our lives feel so shallow. So artificial. It's also why most people go through life with an overwhelming sense of loneliness. So is there a better way? Hell yes. Of course, there is. Living with authenticity in an artificial world isn't a fantasy or fairytale, and I'm here to prove it and to help you live wholeheartedly one step. And one day at a time.My name is Timothy Eldred. I'm a husband, father, writer, speaker, seeker, pipe smoker, bourbon drinker, and person of faith. For the last 30 years, I've helped people discover what it means to just—be. To experience the freedom of living with authenticity. And I'm excited to share with you lessons I've learned from my own life while also letting you eavesdrop on conversations with my guests who've also battled to become comfortable and confident as they've learned to let go and stopped faking it to fit in.So if you're ready for a challenge that will reshape the way you live, love, and lead, lean in. Lean in a little farther. Listen a little harder. Because we're going beneath the surface and beyond the status quo to become our true, authentic selves. Welcome. This is Square Peg Round Hole.Send us a text message. We'd love to hear from you! Thanks for listening. Please follow on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. You can learn more about Tim here.

Today, my friend Ash is back to talk about trust and safety. First, we talk about trust in recovery, and then move on to trust in oneself. We then talk briefly about trust and safety in relationships. We hit on how previous experiences can lead us to feel unsafe in circumstances that most folks would consider safe. Content warning, we are two BIPOC folks and as such racism we've experienced comes up a couple of times. Hope these conversations about addiction, suicidality, and recovery are as interesting to listen to as they were to discuss. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/intimate-interactions/message

This week we're discussing an unidentified killer that lured his victims from nightlife venues by drawing cartoons and caricatures of them - charming and amusing them to horrible stabbing deaths. You can hear the 3 different responses to finding a dead body, and the 3 similar and only appropriate responses to midnight snacks. Which kitchen knife is best for sketching in public? What is a bathhouse? And which host made out with their mother? Pour yourself a cold one and have a drink with us, we'll tell you all about it. But first 1 last thing. Up next on the pod is a very special guest host, Evan Chapman. Evan is a musician with an incredibly diverse career. He juggles being a touring drummer (Square Peg Round Hole, LYDIA), a composer, and running a full service production company, Four/Ten Media. At a young age, Evan identified as a drummer - and specifically - a rock drummer. He spent his formative years playing drum set. Early to YouTube, Evan began publishing videos of drum covers, racking up massive view counts when the platform was still in its infancy. Little did he know that the music and media that were so connected in those early videos would end up defining his career today. Kyle and Liz dig into all kinds of topics, musical and otherwise, with Evan, including a special round of playlist roulette. This episode also has some of the best advice we've heard yet on the pod, good for virtually anyone who is looking into starting (or making changes to) a career. Matt grew up in a single parent household and attended a school for disadvantaged kids, where they taught him about effort. He realized that, if he wanted to live a different life, he'd have to figure things out on his own. Matt grew a business and with perseverance, he maneuvered it through the 2008 economic crisis. He successfully sold the business. Today, Matt speaks and helps business to grow. He shares these powerful nuggets of life wisdom: - perseverance is the key - believe in yourself - use the skills that you already possess - drop the inner critic and self doubt, as they don't serve you - take inventory of the people around you on a regular basis and make adjustments, if needed - make sure your circle includes people that help to lift you up - surround yourself with trusted advisors - don't quit, keep going - fear no longer exists, once you take action - don't stop just before you get those breakthroughs - work hard and be patient for the results - to attract and keep clients, have real conversations with people and care about them Matt Ward is the founder of Breakthrough Champion… In 2002 Matt started a website agency, inConcert Web Solutions, which he, in turn, sold in 2018, so that he could focus on helping businesses get more word of mouth referrals! The reason options are overwhelming is that you're looking at them as a series of disconnected steps when -- to make the most of your time -- you need a strategy that connects only the most important and highest impact ones. Anyone who has ran a business knows how important business referrals can be -- so much that some are willing to spend a good amount of advertising dollars in order to increase their number. After all, how else would you get those referrals coming in, right? Matt Ward says, “Wrong.” Matt is a professional member of the National Speakers Association and a podcast host of the popular small business podcast Square Peg Round Hole! He’s also a 40 Under 40 Recipient and Chamber Small Business Owner of the Year. He is the founder of Breakthrough Champion and author of “MORE…Word of Mouth Referrals, Lifelong Customers & Raving Fans” which was released in September 2018 and was a #1 New Release. He initially started a website agency called in Concert Web Solutions which he eventually sold in 2018 so that he could focus on helping businesses get more word-of-mouth referrals through his public speaking platform. Matt believes that the problem with small business is bananas, and, today, he’ll tell us why. Goin’ Bananas If the first thing that popped into your mind when you heard Matt’s core belief is the image of a monkey, then you are not alone. Matt, however, is quick to explain that his belief has nothing to do with primates and the yellow fruit, but with people who go to events and hand out business cards without engaging people in meaningful conversations first -- something that he likens to dumping bananas on people without considering whether they’d like them or not. Changing Tactics Matt admits that early in his career, he was probably one of those people handing bananas as well, but after reading Keith Ferrazzi’s “Never Eat Alone,” he grew to understand relationships better. He also learned how you can build mutually beneficial ones simply by engaging them in a conversation and truly caring about what they have to say. How to Get Word-of-Mouth Referrals Matt shares that about 90% of his business now relies on word-of-mouth referrals alone, and he said he managed to do this by educating people. “You have to arm people with the knowledge of what it is you’re looking for and what you’re all about.” He said a lot of people get lost in targeting the right market that they neglect to figure out the message that they want to send. “You need to know your topic first; your target second,” he explains. Grateful to be Living the Dream Matt said like everyone, he had his dreams when he was younger, but like a lot of people, he thought they were just that -- dreams. After all, he’s the first in his family to graduate and the first one not to go into prison, but he met someone who encouraged him to start his own business, he decided to give it a try, made some big changes in his life, and now he’s here. Building Relationships with People Matt said he owes it all to the relationships he built, which, he said, all started from caring. “When you care about others, they care about you, and referrals are a by-product of caring,” Matt explained. That said, he reminds people not to give just for the sake of getting something in return. Even if people don’t refer you, he said that it builds a habit of helping other people, and you’ll never know how it’s going to impact their life, and, maybe in the future, yours as well. One Step at a Time “You can’t care about 200 people at once.” Matt knows this too well so he advises people to take things one step at a time. He says you can start by staying in touch then paying attention to what they say. After that, always try to find ways to provide value to the people you meet. “One of the core tenets behind getting word-of-mouth referrals is surprise.” The goal of advertising is to always be at the top of the mind of your prospects, and this is one good way of leaving a strong impression on them. Favorite Book Matt identifies Keith’s Ferrazi’s “Never Eat Alone” as his favorite book. In fact, he has multiple copies in his bookshelf that he ships out to other people every now and then. Resources If you want to learn more about Matt Ward or book his services for an event, you can get in touch with him through his website or LinkedIn account. Have you ever felt like a square peg trying to fit into a round hole? In particular, I'm talking about conversations that you may find yourself in with people when what they say is the complete opposite of how you think about a particular subject. I can't tell you how many times I've been asked to give my opinion on a new vehicle that was purchased for $35,000.00 or more, and while I know that I should nod, smile, and exclaim how nice the vehicle is, I can't help but to cringe inside at the price tag. I know the person showing me their new prize is excited, and I really don't want to be the one to burst their bubble. What's the best course of action? Do you confront your friend or family member and express your disbelief in their poor decision making abilities? After some further thought, I guess the line that I draw in the sand is to give my opinions if the person asking for my advice has not yet signed on the dotted line. Once they've signed on the dotted line and purchased the expensive object of discussion, it's simply too late at that point. You're best to remain cordial and try to squeeze out a congratulatory remark, as difficult as that might be. Have you enjoyed this podcast so far? Would you mind providing a review for this show?
