Send us a textImagine a generation shaped by hardship and resilience, yet taught to hide their emotions behind a stoic facade. What happens when those silent struggles are passed down through the family tree? Join us on a thoughtful journey as we explore the legacy of the silent generation, born between 1928 and 1945, and the profound impact of their unaddressed traumas on subsequent generations. From the stark realities of the Great Depression to the seismic shifts of World War II, we paint a vivid picture of the societal forces that demanded stoicism and emotional suppression, setting the stage for a cycle of unresolved trauma. Our conversation emphasizes the silent generation's influence on baby boomers, highlighting the challenging balance between the values of discipline and the longing for emotional warmth. As we unravel generational parenting patterns, we reflect on how these silent struggles often led to rebellion or conformity among baby boomers, occasionally manifesting in destructive behaviors like substance abuse. Our guest, Mama Gowan, brings invaluable insights into how millennials are courageously challenging these inherited norms to cultivate healthier emotional expressions. With anticipation, we prepare for Mama Gallen's upcoming session, where her firsthand accounts of wartime resilience will offer further clarity. We affirm our shared commitment to addressing and healing generational trauma, offering hope and encouragement to those willing to confront these challenges in search of peace and a renewed understanding of their intrinsic worth."You Already Know" used by permission and license from MusicBedThe Music Bed LLCLicense AgreementSECTION IProject DetailsVideo Title Wednesdays With WatsonProject Name Wednesdays With WatsonPersonal Channel @authoramywatson@instagram.comLicense DetailsRecording(s) "You Already Know" by JJ Heller (3:34)Individual Youtube Creator / PodcasterClients No client or brand/company workDistributionsStandard Coverage - Web / Social Media (Up to 1 million subscribers), Podcast (Up to 10k monthlydownloads)Monetization IncludedLicense Date November 20, 2024You ARE:SEEN KNOWN HEARD LOVED VALUED

Voices In My Head (The Official Podcast of Rick Lee James)

Voices In My Head (the Rick Lee James Podcast) Episode 553: Kenny & Claire   Pointing listeners to the Hope of Christ amidst life's troubles, critically acclaimed husband/wife folk duo Kenny & Claire are set to bow their full-length debut, Upon the Storm, July 19. Produced by GRAMMY Award-winner Mitch Dane (Brandon Heath, JJ Heller), the 12-track set showcases four freshly penned originals and eight modern renditions of enduring hymns.    The album's title-cut, a stirring take on William Cowper's 18th century hymn “God Moves in a Mysterious Way,” features updated verses and a new arrangement by Kenny & Claireand Mitch Dane. "God Moves (Upon the Storm)" carries deep meaning for the couple following Kenny's struggle with a brain tumor as well as a life-altering chronic illness diagnosis. Hallmarked by thoughtful, organic arrangements firmly anchored in a folk/Americana soundscape, Upon the Storm also offers Kenny & Claire's signature take on such classic hymns as “O the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus” and “Come Thou Fount,” among others, along with a uniquely emotive rendition of the popular Keith Getty and Stuart Townend-penned hymn, “In Christ Alone.” New selections including “Surely His Goodness,” “Have Mercy on Us” and “We Believe”—all written by Kenny & Claire and Mitch Dane—bridge the past and present with thematic consistency.    ABOUT KENNY & CLAIRE Beginning their musical journey together in 2005—writing songs, performing and leading worship throughout the Carolinas—Kenny & Claire Hilliard were married in 2008 but paused their creative pursuits while Kenny attended seminary and the couple started a family. In 2015, during Kenny's tenure as a senior pastor and worship leader in Asheville, North Carolina, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Shortly after successful surgery to remove the tumor, Kenny received a second diagnosis, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome—a degenerative genetic disease that left him temporarily impaired. The couple embraced a return to music during Kenny's recovery, founding a music teaching studio and further honing their songwriting craft by penning modern hymns for their home congregation.      Known for their emotive acoustic/folk originals and organic revivals of theologically rich hymns of yesteryear, Kenny & Claire's critically acclaimed debut EP, Are You Weary, released in 2021. In addition to participating in Getty Music's prestigious International Hymn Writing Collective, the couple's music has been highlighted by Under The Radar (UTR) and in The Rabbit Room's New Music Roundup, and Claire was also named among “Ones to Watch” by the Nashville Songwriters Association (NSAI) in 2021. Today, I take you through my personal journey with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), sharing the relief and validation that came with understanding my diagnosis. We'll explore the critical importance of seeking professional help, navigating through the historical context of PTSD in the Diagnostic Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders (DSM), and understanding how trauma uniquely impacts each individual. Join me as I recount my experiences living with PTSD, including memory lapses, hypervigilance, and sleep disturbances. These symptoms profoundly affected my everyday life, but therapy, medication, and support programs like Lauren Starnes' "When the Body Talks" played crucial roles in my path to better mental health. This episode aims to shed light on the complex interplay between trauma and the mind, emphasizing the need for consistent care and professional evaluation. In our concluding discussions, we focus on the healing journey, exploring effective treatments such as EMDR, cognitive behavior therapy, and complementary therapies like mindfulness and yoga. Reflecting on the biblical story of the man at the pool of Bethesda, I encourage you to ask yourself if you truly want to heal and take those necessary steps toward well-being.

Elias Dummer: Is It Worship or Performance?

The Walk: Devotionals by Worship Leaders

So many Worship Leaders are so concerned about being accused of “performing” and not actually leading worship. Questions like “are we doing it well?” and “how did we sound?'' come before the important question of “did we see lives changed?'' and “did people meet Jesus?” There's a tension that exists between the space of worship and the space of performance. Accusations of “that church just puts on a show” are prevalent within the western Church and our megachurches have spent lots of tithe money on creating a highly produced Sunday service. One might even say that the light show on Sunday helps keep the lights on the rest of the week. Elias Dummer knows a thing or two about this topic of worship versus performance. As a former successful CCM artist and lead singer of the band The City Harmonic and as a songwriter and Worship Leader for his local church, he has a unique perspective based on his years of experience. In this episode he addresses this issue by bringing us back to the basics of how we were created. Hopefully, through this episode, our tribe will be able to remove the fear of creating a performance culture and just focus on doing worship well and connecting the congregation with God. This podcast is brought to you by Authentic Media and Worship Leader Magazine. Our host is Joshua Swanson and the show's co-producer and editor is Matt McCartie. More episodes can be found here: https://worshipleader.com/all-podcasts/ Who is Elias Dummer ? Elias Dummer co-founded and fronted one of Canada's most acclaimed worship bands, The City Harmonic. As the group's principal songwriter, he helped pen such hits as “Holy (Wedding Day)” and “Mountaintop,” as well as “Manifesto,” which served as the theme song for 2011's National Day of Prayer. The City Harmonic earned 12 GMA Canada Covenant Awards and a Juno Award (Canada's GRAMMY® equivalent), before disbanding in 2017. Dummer released his solo debut, The Work Vol. I, in 2019 and was named Breakthrough Artist of the Year at the 2020 Covenant Awards. Both as a solo artist and with The City Harmonic, Dummer's music has garnered more than 100 million streams to date. His latest album, The Work Vol. II, released July 29 and features collaborations with such artists as Sandra McCracken; Citizens' Zach Bolen; JJ Heller; and Land of Color.

Elias Dummer doesn't pull punches when it comes to living out his faith. Best known for his work with The City Harmonic, his solo career has set him on a global trajectory with songs like "Expectation" charting in more than 30 countries. But as Elias tells Jess, he won't record music if he doesn't have something necessary to say. In his crowdfunded album "The Work Volume 2" Elias shows that he still contains multitudes – grappling with the Church's love of power, sex, money and politics. All up, asking us to reconsider what worship and justice truly look like. This is a conversation we need in 2022. Sometimes life can be overwhelming But you don't have to feel overwhelmed!  Here are some thoughts on what to do when life makes you say, "Are you kidding me? More?" I found an amazing list of scriptures, and I can't do a better job than this blogger named Haley Walker did in compiling them: Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Matthew 11:28-29 I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint. Jeremiah 31:25 He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.” Isaiah 40:29 My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26 For who is God besides The Lord? And who is the Rock except our God? It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure. Psalm 18:31-32 Yes, my soul, find rest in God, my hope comes from Him. Psalm 62:5 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalm 46:10 The Lord replied, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” Exodus 33:14 To this end I strenuously contend with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me. Colossians 1:29 Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees. Make level paths for your feet, so that the lame may not be disabled, but rather healed. Hebrews 12:12-13 In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety. Psalm 4:8 You are my place of quiet retreat, I wait for Your Word to renew me. Psalm 119:114 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 2 Corinthians 4:16 Yes, brother, may I have joy from you in the Lord; refresh my heart in Christ. Philemon 1:20 Cast all your anxieties on Him, because He cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7 But those who wait for The Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not grow faint. Isaiah 40:31 And let us not grow weary in doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith. Galatians 6:9-10 The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. Psalm 34:18 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16 Music by JJ Heller and David Crowder. Ecclesiastes concludes by declaring that everything matters – even ordinary, everyday things – if we are devoted to God, mindful of him, and orienting our lives toward him. God is the one who gives ultimate meaning to life. "Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans." “Being in a hurry. Getting to the next thing without fully entering the thing in front of me. I cannot think of a single advantage I've ever gained from being in a hurry. But a thousand broken and missed things, tens of thousands, lie in the wake of all the rushing… Through all that haste I thought I was making up time. It turns out I was throwing it away.” Ann Voskamp Daily Reminder Card · The Lord's Prayer… morning side (orienting) · The Prayer of Examen… evening side (reflecting) Redeem the Time! · Each day matters. · God's mercies are new every morning. · Find joy in your journey. · Live continually in God's presence. “I See You” Every sunset is a stained-glass window, Every park bench is a pew, There's a sanctuary everywhere that I go, When my eyes are open, When my heart is open, I see You. -JJ Heller-

More Than a Song - Discovering the Truth of Scripture Hidden in Today's Popular Christian Music

Today has not caught God off-guard. No matter the circumstance you find yourself in, He's already there, and He already knows what will happen next. As we try to think through shifts in our careers or moving forward on our ambitions, nothing will debilitate us faster than focusing on the roadblocks or distractions. Our human nature will draw us to see things that just aren't there, or to miss the important pieces altogether. That's why I asked my dear friend, Ginny Owens, to shed some light on what it looks like to listen to another voice. Blind since age three, Ginny's unique approach to music and books on darkness, life, and faith has a way of helping us see more clearly so we can find hope in the midst of suffering. Here's what she's learned: "You don't always get to choose your circumstances, but you do get to choose the story your life tells." A multiple award-winning and critically-acclaimed singer-songwriter, Ginny Owens became a household name when she was named the Gospel Music Association's “New Artist of the Year” in 2000. In a meaningful career that now encompasses nearly two decades of music – including 10 full-length recordings, three EPs, a popular Christmas album, number one radio singles, and numerous film and television placements – Ginny's heartbeat behind the music remains the same – to inspire others through sharing her own story in song. Born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi, a degenerative eye condition left Ginny completely blind by the tender age of three. As her vision diminished, her love of music and the piano expanded, and Ginny discovered songwriting as a window into her unseen world. The unique perspectives inspired by her vision impairment have resulted in inspirational lyrics paired with her diverse musicianship to afford her a space on an even more diverse set of stages, including the Sundance Film Festival, Lilith Fair and the White House, and recordings that transcend genre expectations. In November 2016, Owens launched the Love Be the Loudest campaign, an initiative in which a portion of album sales are donated to increasing the work of already thriving non-profit organizations. A 3-time Dove Award winner, Ginny's songs have also been recorded by popular artists like Michael W. Smith, JJ Heller and Rachael Lampa, and the sought-after songstress was commissioned to write the song, “Fly Away,” for the 2017 film, Trafficked – a song that found itself among the song selections considered for the Academy Awards ballot for Best Original Song in a Motion Picture earlier this year. Ginny is also an author, co-authoring Transcending Mysteries, published by HarperCollins in 2015, and the multi-faceted performer also hosts a popular video blog entitled, “How I See It,” in which Owens helps viewers understand the ins-and-outs of living day-to-day life as a blind person. Nashville-based independent singer/songwriter JJ Heller released her 10th full-length studio album, I Dream of You (Volume II). The record is a compilation of 12 favorite cover songs from the 1950's through today, and three original songs produced to stir feelings of nostalgia for listeners of all ages. Heller's effortless voice combines with moving piano accompaniment, orchestral arrangements, a children's choir, and a 10-piece string section to create a truly unforgettable collection of songs elevating the definition of children's music to an entirely new level.  When Heller released the first I Dream of You album in 2014, she had no idea how significantly it would shape her career. At the time, the mother of two small girls simply intended to create soothing love songs with messages of simple devotion from a parent to a child. After listeners began sharing stories of how the songs played in integral role in their family's bedtime routines, car rides, or hospital visits, Heller began donating the album to hospitals, adoption agencies, and families of young children. The album has since been donated to over 100,000 families. — Read stories from listeners at jjheller.com/stories In 2017 after Heller told her producer, Ben Shive, how I Dream of You had became one of her most-streamed albums, he suggested making a sequel. The idea had never occurred to her, but it was quickly embraced and acted on. Soon, with the support of 1,700 fans, Heller raised $80,000 through a Kickstarter campaign which allowed her to hire over 30 musicians, producers and engineers to help her turn the record from a dream into a reality.  Kickstarter backers were given a chance to hear the album early as their reward for financially supporting the campaign, and after her first listen, backer Leeann Hadgis wrote: “I can't imagine a more perfect mix is songs. I feel transported by the music and whimsy. My children are older so this is an album for me… such an excellent way to start my weekend. I will be buying this for all my friends so they can, feel the same joy I feel, when listening. I am unable to choose one favorite since they all are magical.” Miles Davis once said “… sometimes it takes you a long time to sound like yourself.” With over 15 years experience as a full-time  singer/songwriter, Heller has developed an iconic style of vocal performance. Her unmistakable voice and charming delivery shines from the opening track “It's Such A Good Feeling” by the much-loved television personality Fred Rogers (Mister Rogers' Neighborhood) to the closing original track “In The Morning.”    Links for JJ Heller - https://www.jjheller.com/about/  https://www.instagram.com/jjhellermusic/?hl=en     Connect with us on Mommispace!
