Fain Signature Group (FSG) of Prescott Valley, AZ. decided to slow down the zoning request on the Rock & Gravel site due to many questions being asked and to provide the Town Council, Staff, along with Town Planning and Zoning, and HOA Board Presidents of the Stoneridge and Prescott Country Club communities the opportunity to further educate themselves on the site so that they can make the best, informed decision for their constituents. Tours of the proposed location of the remote rock and gravel operation are being considered and will be coordinated in the coming weeks after the holidays. “Having... Ideally 46. After a smaller clean out earlier in the year, I took a full car load to Savers in October- lots of clothes. #23 Create a new music playlist. Riley's. Plus CMA fest artists. Summer playlist, Old Dominion On a Happy Note My friend Megg and I took a longer than usual walk through our local State Park! After almost 8 miles, I came home and pressure washed the house & deck. For the deck, I used a surface cleaner from Ryobi that Dan purchased. You can find the same one on Amazon for $51. Parts of the deck were so badly stained from years of drought when we couldn't wash it. Areas where the wood pile is were especially bad. Exhausting but very satisfying day. My cousin Chris & his wife Kim threw a wonderful party for their son Benjamin's Baptism. I spent a week night at brother and sister-in-law's while they attended a work function. Ran the kids around to their activities, then Millie and I knit for a bit before she and Garret went to bed. Riley & I knit and watch Gilmore Girls before we went to bed. Truly delightful. My financial advisor reached out to me after hearing that my work Open Enrollment is coming up and there was an option for a high deductible health plan that allows for a Health Savings Account, which he had encouraged me to do before (but it wasn't an option). Great customer service! Find a good financial advisor. It is so worth it. Dan and I spent one evening at our nephew Will's soccer game in our home town. They got clobbered but it was fun to see him play. I also knit a bit and listened to my audiobook during part of the second half. Mom, Riley, Millie & I got mani pedis at a local place! Our annual Woodchopping Weekend Party went off without a hitch. Perfect weather. Great food. Dan took the kids on hayrides using a trailer pulled by the backhoe. Kids played disc golf and later flashlight tag, then retreated inside to make TikTok videos while the adults and littles made s'mores outside by the fire and chatted. Mom & I put blue streaks in our hair after our friend Erika, who cuts/colors our hair, encouraged Mom to do this before her Vegas trip last year. Mom said if she was still here to go this year, she'd do it. Here we are! It looks great. Finished up work on our FearLESS Living Fund Website. The bulk of the work and formatting, design was done by my Mom's friend Emma who was really generous to do this for us! So far we've raised almost $14,000 help the Blind community of Nevada. We are giving away awards for 2 special people to assist with their housing and cell phone costs for the upcoming year! Can't wait to raise more money. You can donate here. Watching Love is Blind and chatting about it with my friend Laura. Great customer service from AirBnB after our host canceled our Rhinebeck AirBnB. THis particular Ravelry project gives the cast on stitches and number of rows and says she 1 50g skein would have been enough "if I did a 40 round leg (ran out of the first skein when I had 10 rounds left on the foot of the second sock)." They have a great one at the coffee shop at work, Marylous, and I even bought a container from Trader Joe's that I enjoyed some of this week. Cooler temps- they hit us fast this year. We went from hot and muggy to mornings that are 55 and crisp and days in the 60's. I'm loving pulling on wool socks and a wool sweater to stave off the chill. The Town of Prescott Valley will change two intersections to all-way stops toward the end of January 2023. The Stoneridge and Old Black Canyon intersection and the Viewpoint and Spouse intersection will receive advance signage, striping, and stop signs. Residents should expect to see the work be completed on January 30, 2023, weather permitting. Residents are asked to use extreme caution at these intersections as the changes take place. Tony Russo is a candidate for Poway City Council District 3. I live in District 3, so this was a great opportunity to learn more about Tony Russo's campaign for Poway. Lack of Trust from Poway Officials We started by discussing Tony's experience at the Green Valley Civic Association and Poway Chamber's Candidate Forum. His competitors were stressing safety as their key priority. Tony disagrees. He feels there is a serious lack of common-sense policies, transparency, trust, respect, and honesty from City Council and city officials. Tony Russo expressed how the people of Poway are angry and frustrated. Poway Housing Development We discussed at length the development projects underway in Poway. Tony felt that city officials have not effectively communicated the status of The Outpost project. He was disheartened by the mistakes made by city officials and developers, as well as how those failures were communicated to the people of Poway. Tony did not feel The Outpost was carefully reviewed by city officials and that was led to the water problems that undermined the project. Russo shared his thoughts about how council members would blame the developers rather than looking inwardly on errors made by city officials. Tony shared his thoughts on The Farm in Poway and the frustration of Stoneridge neighbors as they see new homes being built close to their property. He asked why The Farm is being built so quickly, yet some of the projects on Poway Road are moving much more slowly. Big Money Invested in Poway Politics Tony Russo expressed his surprise at the tremendous amount of money being spent to fund one of his competitors and other candidates in Poway. The organization Community Voice appears to be taking donations from developers and other influential people in Poway. Those dollars are provided to the San Diego Police Officer's Association who use those funds to create attack ads on specific candidates. Questions from Poway Voters We took so many great questions from the audience including conversations about the Martincoit-Stone Canyon intersection, district boundaries, the Poway Senior Center, and if Poway's slogan “The City in the Country” still matches with today's reality. Tony Russo Supports Small Businesses Tony was a small business owner and wants to see greater support from the city, or at least a reduction in red tape that slows businesses down. We discussed the plight of a fish market that is struggling to open his business but has been waiting on city inspectors to approve their permits. Tony Russo wants to support small businesses in Poway. We also discussed the issue of water rates, the Poway boil water ordinance, and the new water infrastructure project. Tony Russo is a family-oriented person. He talked at length about the joy he gets from supporting his three children, his involvement as a youth sports coach, and special memories of his mother. Thanks to the livestream audience for so many great questions and comments. We value your input! Stoneridge Farm, in Arundel, ME, was the first farm in the state to learn it had high levels of PFAS "forever chemicals" in its water. The toxic chemicals built up from spreading sludge, as a soil amendment, year after year. The Maine Department of Environmental Protection assured the Stones that the practice was totally safe, so he helped to spread this form of fertilizer on many area farms, as well. But it was not safe. The chemicals were in the water and feed given to their cows, who then produced milk with very high levels of PFAS.Farmer Fred Stone, and his team, chose to notify their milk distributers as a matter of integrity and food safety, though it caused financial ruin, for them. Fred was recently quoted in the Beacon saying, "My moral compass so far has cost me $1.5 million. That is what it costs to have a moral compass." It has also cost them their health and the ability to keep their family farm alive, with the value of the land now ruined by toxic chemicals left from years of sludge spreading. Fred Stone thinks telling his story is a lot like fishing, "you never know what you are going to catch." And after the painful loss of their herd, their livelihood and their health, he wants to do what he can to spread the word on toxics in farming. Telling his story has helped. Presently, the state of Maine is about to have the first law in the country banning the spreading of sludge on farmland (LD 1911, currently awaiting the governor's signature). Likewise, a newly established $60 million dollar trust in Maine is intended to offer relief to farms like Stoneridge. "So God Made a Farmer" by Paul Harvey was played in this interview to highlight the powerful connection farmers have to the land and thus underscore the inconceivable loss farmers experience when their legacy is cut short by toxic ruin.
Daylight Savings Time is Whack The US Senate just approved making daylight savings time permanent for the entire nation. Will the House pass it? And what's the deal with the California vote in 2018 to end this clock changing nonsense? I'm tired of the twice a year clock change, are you? Ukraine and the New McCarthyism Hosts on The View want the government to investigate Tucker Carlson and Tulsi Gabbard for “spreading false Russian propaganda. What ever happened to free speech and freedom of the press? We take a closer look at the Ukraine-Russia conflict and discuss whether the US military should get involved. Fernando Tatis and Baseball Happiness Tatis broke his wrist in a foolish motorcycle accident. Sure, it is a maturity issue, but this kind of behavior is not in his long-term self-interest.

It was interesting to retrace our memories of development in the 70s, 80s and 90s as communities in Mira Mesa, Rancho Penasquitos, Scripps Ranch and Carmel Valley were developed. We then get into the idea of working from anywhere where you can use technology to work remotely 100% of the time. We discuss a variety of different scenarios, the positive impact on our freeways and climate, the economic benefit to companies and the financial and lifestyle rewards for employees. I also share highlights of my recent Facebook marketing campaign to grow the podcast audience. We also touched on so many topics and people including Labor Day, recycling, Butte, Montana, mining, ancestry, DNA test, County Cork, Munster, Ireland, immigration, walls, George Chamberlin, Poway Chamber, San Diego North Chamber, San Diego State, Aztecs, David Leland, Weber St, protesters, progressives, MAGA, Trump, Twin Peaks, Pomerado, Steve Vaus, KUSI, Poway Parade, Poway, pooper scoopers, Dave Rubin, Rubin Report, UCSD, La Jolla, UTC, Genesee Highlands, Clairemont, Canyonside Fields, Black Mountain Rd, Mira Mesa Blvd, Camino Ruiz, NIMBY, regulation, zoning, Poway Rd., Stoneridge, Granny Flats, SANDAG, EVs, mass transit, Google Hangouts, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides, Fortran 77, minimum wage, climate change. #JohnRileyProject #HousingCrisis #WorkfromHome #LaptopLifestyle #WorkAnywhere #Life #Liberty #PursuitofHappiness #FreeSpeech #FreeTrade JRP0075 Supporting Articles: How did San Diego Housing become so Dire? https://www.voiceofsandiego.org/topics/land-use/how-san-diegos-housing-shortage-became-so-dire/ Work from Anywhere https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/business/story/2019-08-30/work-from-anywhere-model-works Kent Stuver – Internet Marketing Consultant – Work from Anywhere Example https://twitter.com/kentstuver/status/1166647919631581185 John Riley Project Info: Bookings? In this podcast we look at three hot topics in San Diego County: San Diego Climate Change/Green Energy, Oceanside Housing and the San Diego County Republican Party. We start by examining the City of San Diego’s “Climate Change Demonstration Project” to put solar panels, temperature controls and lighting reduction monitors in 3 of their libraries as a showcase of using sustainable energy technology to achieve a net-zero energy usage. Then we jump into the City of Oceanside’s heated discussion about transforming tomato farms into a commercial-residential-agriculture hybrid community. Finally, we conclude by highlighting the San Diego County Republican Party’s new website www.sandiegonewsdesk.com and their efforts to produce right wing news content to influence voters and compete with left leaning mainstream media. We also touched on so many topics and people including EV charging stations, solar batteries, Mission Hills, Hillcrest, San Ysidro, Point Loma, Serra Mesa, Southeastern San Diego, California Energy Commission, City Energy Conservation Fund, San Diego Libraries, Jason Mraz, North River Farms, Arrowood Golf Course, Integral Communities, Farm at Stoneridge, Poway, NIMBYism, property rights, homelessness, housing crisis, Tony Krvaric, TJ Zane, Sweetwater School District, Poway Unified School District, Todd Gloria, Duncan Hunter, San Diego Union Tribune, George Orwell, Oscar Wilde, Christopher Hitchens, Steve Vaus, Jimmy Carter, deregulation, beer industry, Ronald Reagan. #JohnRileyProject #Life #Liberty #PursuitofHappiness #San Diego #Oceanside #Poway #ClimateChange #SolarEnergy #HousingCrisis #GOP JRP0070 Supporting Articles: Three San Diego library branches chosen for climate change ‘demonstration project’ - San Diego Union Tribune https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/communities/san-diego/story/2019-08-21/three-san-diego-library-branches-chosen-for-climate-change-demonstration-project City of San Diego Budget – Library Energy on page #369 https://www.sandiego.gov/sites/default/files/fy19ab_v2library.pdf Oceanside Housing Project - Jason Mraz https://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/local/Jason-Mraz-Oceanside-North-River-Farms-Development--491460951.html San Diego News Desk: San Diego GOP Propaganda Tool https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/news/watchdog/story/2019-08-20/republican-party-of-san-diego-county-launches-news-website-for-political-purposes John Riley Project Info: Bookings? Reactions to the Stoneridge Development public forum on Dec 12th, Ethics issues with Poway Unified School Board, Patreon controversy, free speech and thoughts & recommendations on the shows I am streaming online. Kevin McNamara stepped up to the stage originally to make a 2 minute welcome speech but it turned into a 30+ minute question and answer session from the audience. The questions were direct, sometimes hard hitting and reflected the many concerns of Poway citizens, many of which that live on or near the Stoneridge golf course. People wanted to know about the price of the homes, the value of the homes, the traffic impact, the number of new kids in the schools, water issues and much more. Kevin McNamara also explained the business relationship he has with Stoneridge property owner Michael Schlessinger. It is an option to buy agreement that gives McNamara the ability to buy the land if his plan is approved by the Poway City Council. The plan will be submitted to the Poway City Council before December 31, 2018. Then the City will run the proposal through environmental impact studies and various other tests to ensure the plan meets necessary requirements. Once those hurdles are cleared, the issue will go before the voters in November 2020. Voters ultimately will be voting to rezone the Stoneridge Country Club property to recategorize it for residential. Currently Stoneridge is zoned for open space recreational. If voters reject the November 2020 ballot measure, then the situation reverts back to the status quo. Schlessinger will remain the owner of the property, the golf course will remain shuttered, chain link fencing will remain and the land will continue to go fallow. John Riley Project Info: Bookings? Poway Councilman Dave Grosch joined me Friday afternoon October 12th for a conversation about important Poway issues, his family history in Poway and a little bit about the MLB playoffs and college sports. Dave is well known and takes great pride in being an approachable and available councilperson that will meet with constituents, listen to their concerns, respond to their emails and take their phone calls. He wants to be responsive to the people of Poway to help them solve problems, represent their concerns and share information about issues involving city council. Councilman Grosch shared his thoughts about the Poway Road Corridor Plan. He believes the new Outpost project will be a strong showcase of the potential of the redevelopment plan. Once people start seeing something real, then many concerns and unfounded rumors will lessen. He did make it clear that property owners still need to gain approval from city council on their plans. In one specific case, a property owner shared plans for a mixed use development, but it only had 10% commercial and ultimately was rejected by the city council. Dave is particularly concerned about parking issues. He sees the overflow parking on Oak Knoll, Community and other streets today. It is important to him that each new development on Poway Rd has the necessary parking set aside to ensure there is no additional overflow on to side streets that are already impacted. Dave Grosch is also proud of the city's fiscally conservative policies. Balanced budgets, prioritization of special projects and prudent management of tax dollars are key principles for Councilman Grosch. But he warned that expenses are increasing at a higher rate than revenues, so new revenue sources will be necessary. Because many long time residents choose to remain in their homes and retire in Poway, there is less turnover of homes and thus the property tax base grows very slowly. Part of the reason for the Poway Rd Corridor Plan is the opportunity to generate more sales tax and property tax revenue which will allow the city to continue to fund the growing needs of public safety, parks, infrastructure and more. Dave Grosch did speak to the issue of term limits. This was an issue he felt passionately about when he first ran for office in 2010. However, he realized it took him time to come up to speed as a councilman to understand the city staff and how processes worked. He also felt he had unfinished business to address (Community/Senior Center, Espola project, getting Poway Rd Corridor project started, etc.). After consultation with his supporters he decided to run for a 3rd 4-year term. We covered many other issues including Stoneridge, synchronizing street lights, expanding the left turn lane at Pomerado and Poway Rd, Poway Girls Softball, Poway National Little League, SAIC, TRW, raising a family in Poway, losing 8 pounds walking neighborhoods meeting with voters, Potato Chip Rock, Starridge Park, Silverset Park, Poway Road traffic, big rocks underground in Poway, the big dig at the Outpost, Loyola Marymount, Hank Gathers, Bo Kimble, Torrance, the huge Mira Mesa apartment complex off the 15 freeway, the new Poway Community Center/Senior Center, cleaning up the eucalyptus trees on Twin Peaks Rd, LMDs (Landscape Maintenance Districts), Torrey Powers, John Carson, Phil Spear (RIP), VFW, Kiwanis, water rates, taking an hour to get a gallon of milk at the grocery store because he talks freely with constituents, figuring out the weird TV channels for Aztec football and basketball, Padres constant rebuilding mode, Rocky Long, a possible Brewer/Astros World Series and his inaccurate prediction that this evening's Aztec/Air Force game wouldn't be played in a rain storm. Yuri Bohlen wants to "Make Poway the City in the Country Again". When Yuri first arrived he shared with me his 5 Point Pledge for Poway which he has in writing and notarized, and which I summarize as follows: 1. If elected, he will ask voters 6 months before the end of his first term for a vote of confidence. If he fails to get 50%+1, he will not run for re-election. 2. He will not serve more than 2 terms. 3. He will make no appointments to city council. All seats would be elected by the people. 4. He will have an open door policy. Yuri will be available at City Hall during normal business hours every Monday thru Thursday and alternating Fridays. If you want to talk to him, he will be available. 5. He will ensure City Council meets on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of every month, even if there is no business to conduct. This will still allow citizens to share their thoughts through regular public oral comments. Yuri and I covered many topics. He was particularly passionate on the Poway Road Corridor plan and the new Community/Senior Center. He thinks both projects are a waste of money, should be abandoned and the resources should be applied to other higher priorities, such as fire and police protection. Yuri does not want to make Poway Road look like Friars Road. We also covered his vision of transforming Stoneridge into a public golf course and entertainment venue for families. Yuri spoke at length about his concerns about the homeless in Poway and his objection to the appointment process for city council. He also shared his great story meeting Vince Neil from Motley Crue and his passion for both the San Diego Padres and the San Francisco Giants baseball teams. John Riley Project Info: Bookings? City Council candidate, Jon Ryan, let it rip in a high energy discussion about all things Poway. In his career he's been a fix-it guy. In his personal life, he's a dog rescue guy. Jon applied his fix-it and rescue skills to solve problems in Poway using science, reason and common sense. We got into Poway parks, housing density, dogs and even Gus Fring. The Poway Road Corridor plan, the impact of high density housing and Jon's ideal scenario about Poway Rd are discussed at length. Jon also weighed in on the Stoneridge development, veteran's housing, the Poway Community Pool renovation and the entire process of the recent city council appointment. Jon candidly shared his thoughts about our current city council and the state of his city council race in district 1. We even got into Better Call Saul, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, Back to the Future and Westworld. John Riley Project Info: Bookings? Inquiries? Brian Edmonston is running to be Poway's next mayor and he is ready to lead Poway to an even better quality of life. Brian passionately discussed expanding and upgrading Poway parks, particularly transforming Stoneridge into a public golf course, swim & tennis facility and walking, running and dog walking destination. Mr. Edmonston expressed his concerns about the Poway Road Corridor plan, specifically about greater integration of commercial real estate amongst residential and an easing of density. Ultimately Brian wants to be a leader that gets out in front of big issues, upgrades amenities for residents and makes the quality of life on par with the best cities in San Diego County. We spent a great deal of time discussing his particular race and how he differentiates himself with our current mayor. Brian expressed his concern about how the mayor and city council seem content with Poway as it is, rather than leading Poway to be everything it can be. We also spent time discussing city council appointments, dog parks and living abroad with his family in Seville, Spain for a few years in a mixed use neighborhood. John Riley Project Info: Bookings?
