Hope for Lebanon: Summer Programs at Hope Evangelical ChurchIntroduction:Join Elio Constantine as he speaks with Bashir from the Hope Evangelical Church in the Bekaa Valley, Lebanon. They discuss the current situation in Lebanon and the exciting summer plans at the church, focusing on how people are finding hope in Christ amidst ongoing challenges.Key Discussion Points:Current Situation in Lebanon: Despite a tough season marked by conflict and despair since September 2024, a ceasefire has led to a somewhat improved situation with a decline in shelling and airstrikes. Local elections are taking place, signaling a sense of change and hope on the horizon, though true hope is emphasized to be found only in Christ.Summer Plans at Hope Evangelical Church:Couples Conference: This conference will focus on strengthening family and marriage relationships for both married and engaged couples. The importance of this event is highlighted by the increasing social acceptance of divorce and the church's role in recentering families on the Gospel. Bashir shares a testimony of the church's ministry successfully helping a couple reconcile and stop divorce proceedings.Children's Camps:Sunday School Kids Camp: A three-day camp for 80-100 (or more) Sunday school children, featuring Bible lessons, fun activities like inflatables and songs, and an outing day.HOPE Educational Program Camps: Separate camps are planned for students in the morning and afternoon programs of the HOPE Educational Program.Children at Risk Program Camp: Another camp will be held for children in the Children at Risk program. The hosts emphasize the significant impact these camps have on children's lives, providing a safe and fun environment to learn about the Gospel and find hope amidst difficult circumstances. Elio shares a personal testimony of accepting Christ and meeting his wife at a summer camp when he was 16 years old.Teenagers Conference: A conference specifically for teenagers is being prepared, with many teens saving money to attend. The prayer is that this conference will have a life-changing impact, similar to Elio's experience.Young Adults Conference: An annual conference for young adults is scheduled for the end of August/beginning of September, which consistently leads to people deciding to follow Christ.Church/Family Conference: The church is preparing for a large "family conference." The previous one was held on October 7th, the same day as the attacks in Israel, but was a powerful time focused on holiness. Last year's conference was canceled due to the war in Lebanon.Worship Night: A major event is planned at Hope Evangelical Church, Zahleh, featuring a Christian singer from the U.S. and a clear message from the Bible, offering attendees the opportunity to follow Jesus.Call to Action:Listeners are encouraged to pray for:All current and upcoming activities at Hope Evangelical Church. The team ministering to families in Lebanon. The couples retreat, and Bashir's leadership in reconciling broken families. The children's ministry and camps, that they would be significant and focused on Christ. The teens, youth, and young adults, and their planned activities. The worship night and the church conference.Bashir and his family, and all the families served, that they trust in Christ alone for hope, rather than political changes.Sign up for prayer ministry updates from Lebanon at Heartforlebanon.org/prayer.Share this episode and send any questions to podcast@heartforlebanon.org.

This blogcast explores “Everything Is Yours" written and read by Brian Rhude. In this blog post, reflects on the Suscipe prayer that reminds us that all that we possess is a gift from God and we have the ability to return it so he can do with it as he wills. Among the many great things that St. Ignatius gave the Church including the Society itself, which has produced many great Saints, and the Spiritual Exercises, Ignatius also gave us a prayer called the Suscipe. As short and simple of a prayer as the Suscipe is, it is equally as powerful. Essential to Ignatius' spirituality is the fact that all human beings are creatures created by God and are in need of his great mercy and love and that everything we experience in our lives is a gift from God. The Suscipe is, in my estimation, the perfect product of this essential factor of Ignatius' spirituality. Ignatius' prayer goes like this: Take, Lord, and receive all my liberty, my memory, my understanding, and my entire will, All I have and call my own.You have given all to me.To you, Lord, I return it.Everything is yours; do with it what you will.Give me only your love and your grace, that is enough for me.As creatures, everything that we are and everything that we have is from God, our creator. Our liberty, memory, understanding, will, possessions, gifts, and talents — every good thing in our lives is a gift from God. The problem is that we, as humans, tend to think that we have done all the good things in our lives. While we certainly have to cooperate with God's grace, all things are still reliant on his grace. Everything in this world will eventually pass away. Our good looks, quick wit, great intellect, ability to play an instrument, cook great food, or hit a golf ball 350 yards will pass away at some point in our lives. What do we do when we can no longer rely on our physical or mental ability? We can certainly shrivel up into a proverbial ball and pout that our life is over. But life in Christ leads us another direction, the direction of the Suscipe. This direction points us to grace and the necessity of grace in our lives. Even when all the other good things in our lives are gone, God's grace will remain. God's grace will sustain us when nothing else can and will be there when everything else fades away. Let's have the courage to rely solely on God's grace which is all that we need. Author:Brian Rhude is the Project Coordinator for the Catholic Apostolate Center where he works in developing Center programming, assists in updating and creating new resources on the Center's website, collaborates on the development of social media content, and provides other services and collaborates including participation at and facilitation of various events and conferences. In this episode, Lisa and Cindy discuss:Summer programs as a college & career exploration toolEnhancing college applications through summer experiencesThe rise of STEM programs & growing competitionChoosing the right summer program & avoiding misleading claimsKey Takeaways: Deadlines for selective summer programs are often in January or early February, with some as early as November and a few extending into April. Families should plan ahead to secure a spot. Most summer programs on prestigious college campuses do not improve admission chances, and many are run by third-party companies rather than the universities themselves.Students should document their experiences in real-time, either through journaling or voice memos, to capture meaningful reflections that can later strengthen college essays.A handful of colleges indirectly favor applicants who attend their summer programs, but this is rarely advertised publicly. Independent educational consultants (IECs) may have insider knowledge of which programs provide an admissions edge.“If you took the summer off, didn't explore that interest, applied to that major at a college specializing in it—then found out you didn't like it… now you're a year or two in, money spent, and thinking—wait, I want to change my mind. For me, the biggest value is confirming interests or ruling them out.” – Cindy McCormickAbout Cindy McCormick: Cindy McCormick is a dedicated college advisor who helps high school students find their best-fit universities. With degrees from UCLA and certifications from UC Santa Barbara and UC San Diego, she brings extensive expertise. Before founding CMCA, she taught in New York and California and later specialized in college applications and essay writing. She also coached competitive STEM teams, guiding students to global championships. As a mother of five, a Gifted and Talented educator, and an autism specialist, Cindy values each student's unique journey, ensuring personalized and impactful advising.Episode References:Common App: https://www.commonapp.org/Wow Writing Workshop: https://wowwritingworkshop.com/Get Lisa's Free on-demand video: How-to guide for your teen to choose the right major, college, & career...(without painting themselves into a corner, missing crucial deadlines, or risking choices you both regret). flourishcoachingco.com/video Connect with Cindy:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/cmcollegeadvising/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/cmcollegeadvisingWebsite: http://www.cindymccormickcollegeadvising.com/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/cindy-mccormick-cmca/Email: cindy@cmcollegeadvising.comConnect with Lisa:Website: https://www.flourishcoachingco.com/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@flourishcoachingcoInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/flourishcoachingco/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/flourish-coaching-co
