jarasaseasongi - muzyczne historie

Z tłumu słychać pytania kto to kto to. Jana. Dołączamy do ceremonii pogrzebowej. Tragiczną historie upodobali sobie dublińscy śpiewacy i bardowie. Nie sposób zliczyć artystów, którzy nagrali swoją wersję „Cookles and Mussels”. A skąd pochodzi tekst i melodia? O tym opowiadam w podcaście.

The legend continues... this week, we're proceeding north to Scotland for Book 2 of Isle of the Mighty. There's more of the same in terms of bizarre history section content management, NPCs who are intriguing and forgettable in equal measure, and a geography chapter that is surprisingly good! Even though in the balance, this section probably leaves more questions unanswered than we had when we started, there are some moments of true enjoyment scattered through. (Lookin' at you, Loch Lads.) It's heavier on the vignettes and side fiction than England was—but we'll take it in exchange for how the book completely skips over some of the country's more important centuries, in favor of talking about random changeling feuds that have no bearing on the game. A little of this, a little of that. the usual suspects Herewith our social media links for the podcast: Discord: https://discord.gg/SAryjXGm5jEmail: podcast@changelingthepodcast.comFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100082973960699Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/changelingthepodcastTwitter: https://twitter.com/changelingcast This might be the last time we include Twitter on the list, at least for a while. We trust once more that you've enough Films: Brave, Braveheart, Highlander (but not the sequel, eesh), Loch Ness, Macbeth (several versions), The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, Rob Roy, Trainspotting (and okay, why not the sequel), The Wicker Man...TV: Gargoyles (partially), Monarch of the Glen, Outlander... Literature: the poems of Robert Burns and Carol Ann Duffy, Knots and Crosses, Lanark, Diana Gabaldon's Outlander novels (on which the TV show is based), Trainspotting (the novel), The Wasp Factory (content warning!), Witch Wood...Music: Albannach, Bannal, Capercaillie, Clann an Drumma, Mouth Music, The Proclaimers (although "I'm Gonna Be" was likely a Banality trigger for a while back in the day), Silly Wizard, Tannahill Weavers, The Waterboys, Wolfstone... One exception to the "go find it yourself" rule is this album of waulking songs by Bannal, who are decidedly un-Banal. It's a group of ladies making cloth in the traditional Highland way, accompanied by the old melodies and versifications that have a distinctive and beautiful sound. The newest band added to the playlist: Vicki Swan & Jonny Dyer, The McDades, Syr Listen on Spotify, Amazon Music, and YouTube. BUY SELCOUTH BY MARC GUNN My latest CD features Sci F'Irish music. That means it is original songs fusing pop culture themes with Irish drinking songs. There are some traditional music on the album. But mostly, it features songwriting by Marc Gunn with guests including: Screeched Inn, The Muckers, Jamie Haeuser, Sam Gillogly, Nathan Deese, and Mikey Mason. Selcouth means, “when everything is strange and different, yet you find it marvelous anyway.” The album is not completely Celtic and it's not just science fiction and fantasy. It's a fusion of the two. It's heartfelt and a lot of fun. It's now on sale in my Bandcamp store. Check out Selcouth now. THANK YOU PATRONS OF THE PODCAST! I told my graphic designer, Miranda Nelson, that the St Patrick’s Day show would be the 500th episode of the podcast. She thought about it and came back and asked, “would you mind if I collected some audio feedback from some of the artists on the show.” I said,” sure! That sounds great!” I’ll be honest, I didn’t expect much of a response. But I remembered that she suggested this when I started compiling this 500th episode. She forwarded me some feedback via email. I looked through them and didn’t see any audio. “Oh well,” I thought. “Less than I expected, but that’s fine.” Then I noticed one band mentioned something about including audio in their email. But I never got that. So I emailed and asked Miranda where that audio was. Her response, “it’s in the folder you set up on Google Drive.” Oh yeah! I did do that, didn’t I? I opened up the folder and was floored to find over 60 recordings by Celtic bands wishing me a  happy 500th episode. Wow! Ye know a couple pieces are easy to pop into an episode. But I didn’t think about how to include ALL OF THESE pieces? So what should I do for this show? Instead of me introducing bands and songs, I’m gonna let the artists do it themselves. I will play their congratulations as a way of introducing their music. Course that means if you want to find out the name of the song or tune, you will need to visit the shownotes at CelticMusicPodcast.com or just check your podcatcher. Because each track has a time stamp so you can easily look it up. That said, I’ll have a few moments to break up the music and say hi. But for the most part this is just music and congratulations. I want to thank Miranda Nelson Designs for all of her hard work in making this happen. Miranda has a whole bunch of Celtic shirt designs you should check out at mirandanelsondesigns.com. And I want to thank everyone who has supported this podcast over the past 16 years. And without further adieu, let’s meet the bands. THANK YOU PATRONS OF THE PODCAST! I've recently started collecting vinyl, however my Celtic record collection is much smaller than I like. It seems like alot of older artists are out of print and newer artists distribute mostly digitally. Are you aware of any resources to find groups, perhaps ones featured on your podcast that offer music in this format?" David Turner replied to the Celtic Music Magazine: "Hello Marc, Thank you so much for your podcast which has been a constant companion these past few months. It’s very weird listening to pre Covid episodes with you expressing all the freedom of looking ahead with anticipation! Ah weill . Now favourites could be a long list! However, I still get prickles remembering the immense, involuntary roar at the conclusion of a concert by The Battlefield Band in Port Fairy in 1991, a roar not generated in the vocal chords, but deep from the core, as Big Iain and Wee John finally brought their frenzied duet to a close, the entire tent vibrating and humming with exhilaration. Tears in my eyes again! Yes, what a band, so my fave Scottish band. Honorary mentions to Dick Gaughan, Aly Bain and Dougie McLain. To Ireland, and Mary Black. Now this choice could well be clouded by my intense infatuation, but her Song for Ireland stops me in my tracks every time. Andy Irvine is also a hero. Keep up the good work Marc, we need good people like you! Warm regards. David” Bill Wall emailed a photo: "Cead Mille Failte. (I probably misspelled that) I'd been meaning to subscribe for a while, but when I heard a few people drop off I knew I needed to step up. The music of your podcast stirs up many emotions in me. I have been sober for 5 years now, and I listen to your podcast driving to one of my favorite 12-step meetings about 40 minutes away from my house. For all of the Wild Roving I've done, with Celtic music in the background, it's great to hear the music on the way to centering myself. The drive is from my stereotypically suburban environment into a wooded canyon where we meet at a monastery. The monastery has green hills behind it for a beautiful hike, which reminds me of my time in Ireland. Since I know you like pictures, I thought I'd include these two. Thank you for all you do to keep bringing the happy war songs and sad love songs."

I've enjoyed the podcast for months, and appreciate the energy and positivity you bring while introducing listeners to new bands - I especially enjoy the themes that come with each episode. it's obvious you love what you're doing and it is fun to listen along. There is something special for me about the stories and instrumentation of Irish and celtic music that creates such a strong sense of place - songs can quickly carry you away to memories of good times, help you find perspective in hard times, see the world anew and wander with an open heart down the road of life. I live in Alexandria, Virginia where we're lucky to have several pubs that that regularly feature exceptional live irish and celtic performers, and it has been hard stuck at home missing out on the community and camaraderie of a night at the pub. If the current times weren't crazy enough, I was laid off from my job last week so I'm not only dealing with avoiding the virus but also trying to find a new job. The music you play has been part of my "keep sane" program. I also want to thank you for promoting music by women and other minorities. As a gay man who's more comfortable at a pub or ceili than a dance club, that means so much to me. I'm looking forward to your queer music special! Attached is a photo of myself, listening while I take a walk outside, getting what exercise I can. Again, thank you." Ginnie Vigansky emailed: "Dear Marc, First, let me say how grateful I am for your podcast and how much I appreciate your passion for Celtic music and your desire to help this wonderful community. I have not had the opportunity to download any special downloads yet, for now I'm just happy to be part of this wonderful community you are building. I hope you will indulge me while I share my history of your podcast with you. I have always been drawn to Celtic music for whatever reason and have always enjoyed finding new Celtic artists. In the early 2000s while at university I discovered a Celtic music show on our local public radio and quickly became a regular listener. I listened for many years and it became part of my Sunday morning tradition. Shortly after meeting a very special man (who eventually became my husband) in 2013 the radio station changed the time slot of the Celtic music show and it was no longer convenient to listen to. My husband, knowing how much this music meant to me, started to look for other ways to continue this Sunday morning tradition and several years ago he discovered your podcast, and we've been listening ever since. I really appreciate the variety of music you play and it has been nice to hear some artists I was familiar with before finding your show; like Heather Dale, Elixir and the Gothard Sisters...and I've so enjoyed learning about so many new artists. After about a six week break from listening I started to listen again and find myself again grateful for your hard work to make this show happen. My husband died unexpectedly at the end of May and listening to your show again while making Sunday breakfast brings back many fond memories of my Sunday mornings with the most remarkable man I've ever known. Thank you for helping me continue this wonderful tradition, although now tinged with some sadness, it is also full of wonderful memories. I've been meaning to subscribe to the podcast for some time and finally did so today. I would like to make my support for the show in honor of my wonderful husband and partner, Paul Vigansky. Thank you so much for all you do. With warmest gratitude, Ginnie L. Vigansky”

I have only recently discovered it as I get my head wrapped around ever evolving technologies. I like the Celtic Rain track in your latest podcast and discovered a typo/problem with the link to their website. The link address should be celticrainmusic.com. Hope this helps in the future." Jeremy Graves emailed "Hi, Marc! I've been listening to your show for just a few weeks, but I really love it! I started listening to stay awake while feeding my now three-month-old late at night; my wife and I take shifts. As a linguist working with an indigenous group in Mexico, I really enjoy songs sung in the Celtic languages, and would love to hear more on the show! Thanks for your work! (PS I bought a Stonecircle album today, which I first heard on the podcast)." Charlton Allen asked: "What is indie Celtic?" Brooks Smith emailed on Patreon: "Hi Mark, Thanks for all the work you to do running this podcast! I don't really have any Irish heritage, but I discovered Celtic music when a friend dragged me to a contra dance in Vermont with the band Crowfoot several years ago. I love the genre, and your podcast is a great way to keep up with some of the new music that comes out. I typically listen while working during the day (I'm a structural engineer in Melbourne, Australia), and I'll have Spotify open as I do, marking songs as favourites on there as they catch my ear. I'll usually later on go listen to the rest of an artist's catalogue if I've favourited something by them. I've found a few new favourite artists that way - West of Eden, Heather Dale, Childsplay, Skipinnish. Anyway, I'm gradually working my way through your back catalogue of episodes, but one sub-group I've not heard much of yet is Cape Breton artists: Barra MacNeils, Rawlins Cross, Rankin Family, Ashley MacIsaac, and Natalie MacMaster are some of my other favourite Celtic bands! Cheers!"

Last year, Irish Times' reviewer Joseph O'Connor raved, “It’s hard to imagine a more exciting debut novel being published this year. This book is a stunning and wonderful achievement by a writer touched by greatness.” Surpisingly, the book was not written by Tim Taylor or by Mike Shevlin but written by Sara Baume from County Cork and the book is "Spill Simmer Falter Wither". On her first tour through the U.S. supporting the book, Sara visits the Windy City Irish Radio studio to discuss her career and her fantastic book about a man and his one-eyed dog. AND, there's music. Listen for a whole lotta banjo from County Meath's Damaris Woods, Galway's We Banjo 3 and NYC's The Narrowbacks, a Scottish three-fer from The Old Blind Dogs, Tannahill Weavers and the great Dougie MacLean, and tunes from Mary Black, The Henry Girls, and Glen Hansard. Join Mike and Tim each Wednesday night from 8 - 9 PM on WSBC 1240 AM or check out the podcast www.windycityirishradio.com.

THE TANNAHILL WEAVERS are one of Scotland's premier traditional bands. Named for the town's historic weaving industry and local poet laureate Robert Tannahill, the group has made an international name for its special brand of Scottish music, blending the beauty of traditional melodies with the power of modern rhythms. LAMBCHOP is an alternative band based in Nashville. The unique, unclassifiable hybrid of country, soul, and jazz is a baroque beauty held together by the surreal lyrical wit and droll vocal presence of frontman Kurt Wagner. Their latest CD "OH" (Ohio) continues their tradition of releasing challenging, mold-breaking records.
