Following a discussion of Trump's selections for agency appointments and the recent spate of new union organizing in Wisconsin, we dive into a discussion with two guests on immediate climate organizing opportunities progressives should be engaged in now. Former Citizen Action organizer, Kevin Kane, now with Green Homeowners United, joins us to highlight where we are in Wisconsin with the Inflation Reduction Act and ARPA implementation and what opportunities exist for organizing in Wisconsin. Kevin also strongly encourages homeowners to immediately take advantage of available federal resources. We close the show welcoming Citizen Action member and former Wausau alderman, Tom Killian, to discuss two Open Records workshops this Saturday, November 23rd in Wausau that are open to the public. One workshop, led by Bill Lueters, will provide residents and grassroots groups with insights into obtaining records from the government. The second session features Stephan Lester, who will provide information from public records about dioxin and pentachlorophenol contamination in the Thomas Street neighborhood on Wausau's southwest side that were acquired through years of citizen research.

At 9.32 on the evening of Friday September 19th 1952, Betty Shanks stepped off the tram at the Grange terminus, in the Brisbane suburb of Wilston. The 22 year old had spent the evening with some colleagues attending a lecture at a local technical college. She was a couple of minutes walk from her parents home as she headed down Thomas Street. Betty never arrived and her severely beaten body was found half naked in the back yard of a house not far from the tram terminus. It was described at the time as the foulest crime ever to have claimed the life of an Australian. Information poured in concerning several suspicious men seen in the area at the time, including a well-spoken man in a brown suit and a "moon faced" man seen jumping the fence near the crime scene. Numerous theories have developed over the years and several books on the case have been written. This two part episode will examine all aspects of one of Queensland's oldest open murder investigations. Part two will follow on February 19th.Sources for the episode can be found herePromosSupport the showFollow Persons Unknown: Instagram and FacebookEmail: personsunknownpod@gmail.comWebsite with Transcripts:https://personsunknown.buzzsprout.com/
THE DEEP STATE wants to know what you're doing all of the time. That's the takeaway from the news this week. USSOCOM, the US Army's Special Forces command, has contracted with a company to develop a system called Argus, named for the giant with a hundred eyes in Greek mythology, to detect “disinformation” on social media. Because the US military can't legally deploy such a thing against the US public, Argus will have a private enterprise version that will be rolled out after the system is developed—with US taxpayer funds. We also discuss an odd windowless high-rise at 33 Thomas Street in New York City, built in the early 1970s for AT&T. A 2016 investigation by The Intercept found that, although it's still owned by AT&T, it's a National Security Agency spy hub code-named TITANPOINTE, used to tap into phone calls, faxes, and internet data. There appears to be no limit to the government's hunger for data on its citizens. IARPA, the Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Agency, is spending about $20 million to develop clothing that spies on its wearer. The system is called Smart Electrically Powered And Networked Textile Systems—Smart ePANTS. Seriously. Also: Earthquake in Morocco; scientists created “human embryo-like entity” without sperm, egg, or womb; military developing “turducken” nested drones; and we're watching the dawn of World War 3. These are death-bed confessions claims, according to Robert Treat, by Robert Treat himself a private military, government contractor and US navy Special warfare veteran. In this episode Robert tells us... whats happening underground, the location of 13 Thomas Street, lots of analysis and databasing, plus...bug looking creatures.Give to ROBERT's GO FUND ME: Robert's Go Fund Me Robert Treat was born in Anchorage, Alaska in 1969 and adopted at birth by an oil driller and his wife moving to Malta when he was a week old. He spent most of his childhood traveling all over the world living in Africa, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Norway, Trinidad, Borneo, Scotland and several other countries. Robert left high school at age 17 and immediately enlisted in the Marine Corps. Prior to leaving for basic training his recruitment was transferred to the United States Navy due to extremely high testing scores. He was initially trained as an Operations Specialist and later went on to become an instructor for Anti-Submarine Warfare specializing in Target Motion Analysis. Following Robert's short career in the Navy, he went on to work in the private sector as a contractor for several government Intelligence and Law Enforcement Agencies. It's September 19, 1952, and Betty Shanks' father is waiting up for her to arrive home from her evening classes. The Shanks family lives on Montpelier Street in the safe and peaceful suburb of Grange in Brisbane, Queensland. TITANPOINTE. New York City has skyscrapers of all shapes and sizes. But why does this 500 foot tall, 29-story building have no windows, no lights and no markings at all? Because it's a top-secret NSA spy station built to withstand nuclear war. Officially, this is an AT&T telecommunications building. But thanks to leaked documents, we now know that 33 Thomas Street is actually a top secret NSA mass surveillance hub. It's code name is: TitanPointe. And right now, as we speak, TitanPointe is listening. The gray, granite tower is located at 33 Thomas Street in Lower Manhattan. Locals know the building as the "Long Lines Building" and it's been a source of mystery for years. What jumps out is that the building has no windows and no exterior lighting. During the day, it fades into the background of the New York City skyline. And at night, it becomes an invisible shadow. Thanks to NSA documents leaked by Edward Snowden, we now know that creating an invisible building wasn't an accident. It was absolutely by design. 33 Thomas Street operates under NSA codename TITANPOINTE. And Titanpointe is a core location used for a controversial, and possibly illegal, NSA-sponsored mass surveillance program. According to leaked documents, this program has targeted the communications of the UN, the World Bank, the IMF. It's been used to spy on at least 38 countries, including US allies like France, Germany and Japan. It's common knowledge that AT&T is very cooperative with the NSA. Using an AT&T cell phone? Eh, you might want to rethink that. Let's find out why.
Art College is possibly not what people might think it is. Bobby took a stroll up to Thomas Street to pay a visit to the National College of Art and Design where this week the work of their graduates is being showcased.

Today’s guest is Jan Rogers, owner and director of Marble Brewery in Manchester. In 1990, Jan turned up for a drink at the Marble Arch pub and – in her words – didn’t go home. She began working at the pub and, when it was facing uncertainty in the late ‘90s, Jan was adamant that karaoke wasn’t the fix. Instead, the decision was made to install a small brew kit in the pub and that’s how Marble Brewery began back in 1997. From Marble’s early days, I ask Jan to reflect on how both the business and the beer industry have changed over the last twenty years. (Yes, it was a big ask, but Jan’s got some great stories and incredible insight to share.) We talk about why she sees the brewery’s small size as an asset and how it’s allowed her to create a sense of community not only within the business, but across the Manchester and broader UK beer scene, too. Jan tells me what aspects of her job she enjoys best, what she’s most proud of, and what her vision is for Marble’s future. Before I turn it over to our conversation, I just wanted to add in a mention of how Jan and I met: Back in November, I headed up to Manchester to record my first ever live episode of Beer with Nat at the Ladies’ Big Beery Meet-up – a meet up of beer-loving ladies from across the country hosted by Ladies that Beer and Crafty Beer Girls – which you’ll hear on my next episode. Jan not only hosted us at one of Marble Brewery’s venues, 57 Thomas Street, she also agreed to get there early to meet me for a beer and a chat before the event kicked off so I could squeeze in another recording while in town. Thanks again, Jan! Although we’d not met before, I heard Jan’s Northern Irish accent and instantly felt right at home. Yes, I sound very American by now, but both of my parents are Northern Irish and I actually lived there for a few years as a child. It felt like Jan and I had an immediate connection and I couldn’t wait to sit down, chat and get to know her better. Here she is…

In the spring of 1836, a young woman named Helen Jewett was brutally murdered with a hatchet in a townhouse on Thomas Street, just a few blocks northwest from City Hall. This was not a normal crime. Helen was a prostitute of great beauty and considerable intelligence, making her living in a rapidly transforming city. Among her client list were presentable gentlemen and rowdy young men alike -- their kind fueling the rise of illicit pleasures throughout New York City in the 1830s. This was the era of the sporting man. Young single men with a little change in their pocket hit the streets of New York after dark, looking for a good time. For some single young women struggling to survive, the sex industry -- from the 'high end' brothels to the grimy upper tiers of the theater -- allowed them to live comfortable, if secretive, lives. But it placed many in great danger. The prime suspect for Helen's murder was a young Connecticut man who worked at a respectable New York firm. His trial would captivate New Yorkers and even interest newspaper readers around the country. But would justice be served? ALSO: Find out how this incident helped shape the nature of American journalism itself. PLUS: Meet more than one person named Ogden! www.boweryboyshistory.com Support the show.
NSA Spy Hub Hidden in plain sight at 33 Thomas Street, NY. For many New Yorkers, 33 Thomas Street â?? known as the â??Long Lines Buildingâ?? â?? has been a source of mystery for years. It has been labeled one of the cityâ??s weirdest and most iconic skyscrapers, but little information has ever been published about its purpose. It is not uncommon to keep the public in the dark about a site containing vital telecommunications equipment. But 33 Thomas Street is different: An investigation by The Intercept indicates that the skyscraper is more than a mere nerve center for long-distance phone calls. It also appears to be one of the most important National Security Agency surveillance sites on U.S. soil â?? a covert monitoring hub that is used to tap into phone calls, faxes, and internet data. https://theintercept.com/2016/11/16/the-nsas-spy-hub-in-new-york-hidden-in-plain-sight/
Amy talks to Teal Allan in his rose garden, Gus Lanza at Cal Anderson Park, Leo Segovia also at Cal Anderson, and Erie on his porch on Thomas Street. I talk to all of them about class issues, how they are climbing the ladder, IF they are climbing a ladder, if there IS a ladder, and if they CARE if there's a ladder. Are we happy where we are at or will we always want something else? Is serving a respected profession in modern America? We totally answer all of these questions. All of them. Also, apologies that I was not prepared for the wind in the park during my conversation with Leo (the third chat.) There's some distortion I am deeply ashamed of. I do my best not to harm your sensibilities.

Underground Unknown and Forgottens - World Listening Day 2012 in Limerick City. This recording is from the tunnel under Thomas Street, accessed from Kleiser's piano shop basement. There were stalactites in the ceiling of the tunnel, water dripping. Faint traffic and voices from people above, and some conversation between the sound walkers.
