Welp, Football is back! It's definitely an exciting time of the year for Damon. Another Disciplinary Review Board (DRB) to start of the episode. What do you think is the best command coin?Have you ever wondered what's it's like to stand Resident Advisor (RA) watch in the barracks? What does it mean to let “power go to your head” in an organization as structured as the Navy? The term “micromanagement” is discussed. An update on a NAVADMIN that was released and discussed last week. Damo shares his “profound” story. How's life treating you on that Aircraft Carrier? “Day After Duty” is discussed. Do you prefer “IET” or the normal duty section? Is the era of remote work coming to an end? Who cooks better - People from up north or people from the south? This initiates an age old conversation about who makes the best burger. Two US Navy Sailors were arrested for allegedly spying for China. Is battlestations supposed to be a secret? Damon discusses the woes of aging and trying to stay fit. Do Better: Taking leave to get out of getting underway (Damon), dropping NAVADMINs and programs without much context (Damo). The guys get into a few non-Navy topics, including writing down your goals and most surprising tv or film moment. Words of Wisdom: “The Command will survive without you.” An encounter with an old shipmate leads to a conversation about legacy and leaving a lasting impact on people. The MCPON publishes another “Call to Action,” this one is about Professional and Character development. These topics and more are covered in this episode. In this episode, Steve Fretzin and Merry Neitlich discuss:The evolution of branding over the last 20 years. Finding your brand essence statement and recognizing how you stand out from others in your space. Keeping your branding consistent throughout your entire online presence. The difference between brand, marketing, and business development (and how they all interact).  Key Takeaways:Keep your website current (no more than 3 years old) so it is relevant and Google will see it. Have your tagline - make it relevant and tell clients how you are different. You first want to find out what your differentiator is, then build your brand. You need to look introspectively to understand what it is that you stand for and your unique selling point. There should be an overlap between your personal brand and your firm's brand. If they are not related, it can cause a disconnect for your clients. Consistency is the key. You need to hold yourself accountable to your brand, marketing, and business development efforts for them to be effective and work for you.  "A brand is not just an ad. A brand is not just a tagline on your website. A brand is how you operate and everything that you do." —  Merry Neitlich Thank you to our Sponsors!Overture: https://overture.law/Moneypenny: https://www.moneypenny.com/us/Get Visible: https://www.getvisible.com/ Episode References: Branding Is the Strategic Backbone of Law Firm Marketing - https://www.jdsupra.com/legalnews/branding-is-the-strategic-backbone-of-84058/ The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell - https://www.amazon.com/Tipping-Point-Little-Things-Difference/dp/0316346624 About Merry Neitlich: For over 25 years, Merry Neitlich has been a successful business development and branding consultant to attorneys and law firms. In this episode, I look at one fundamental law ARK Invest follows to pick innovative companies like Tesla (TSLA) way before Wall Street buys in. Their biggest portfolio, ARKK, is filled with companies like these, and ARK Invest's investment process is outlined here: https://ark-invest.com/investment-process/Using Tesla as an example, we can clearly see that ARK bought in at the perfect time, not because they were timing the market, but because Tesla entered the trough of disillusionment and the market was clearly pricing Elon's visionary electric vehicle company incorrectly. Wall Street cares about profit while Cathie Wood understands that exponential growth tomorrow comes from constant reinvestment today.I'm talking about the Law of Diffusion of Innovation, which is a framework for understanding how many people need to buy into an idea or technology for it to go mainstream (e.g. buy-in from Wall Street). Finally, I talk about an additional framework, the Gartner Hype Cycle, which talks about market sentiments depending on where a technology is in its adoption cycle. I'm confident you can use this framework to validate any innovation or disruptive technology Cathie Wood puts money behind, as well as use it to predict her future picks!

Has the phrase ‘I’m not good enough’ ever crossed your mind? It could be, I’m not good enough for this job, for this partner, to be on the team, or to make the cut. This is a common phrase that occurs in people’s minds, and it reveals a level of self-doubt that we believe about ourselves. This is part two of the Satir Model discussion. In this episode, Linda Lucas will share a little more about the Satir method, specifically how it related to our view of ourselves. We will discuss the difference between self-doubt and self-esteem, and share what it means to live a congruent life. You will learn about how your belief system develops, and how you can learn to have a more positive self-image. Showing kindness and empathy towards ourselves is an essential ingredient for developing self-esteem. We've probably all heard some variation of this before, but in this episode I take all the bits and pieces from experts, CEOs, and even billionaires, written in books and spoken on podcasts...and edit it down into bite size chunks. Manifesting your highest self, really means looking beyond what you can currently see and knowing, believing and bringing into creation the YOU that YOU know you can be. This episode gives you 6 tips/keys to manifesting a world beyond your limitations, plus tips from a billionaire on which activities we need to stop immediately. "Nothing extraordinary ever happens in your comfort zone", so for this first episode for 2020 we're encouraging you to take the leap. Remember to leave a rating and a comment, thanks! Recorded in the Mill Gym, this week we meet Nick Caldwell. Nick is a former Special Air Service (SAS) soldier who, at the peak of his military career, was diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome. Nick explains about how chronic fatigue became his 'normal', and how for years he suffered through it; including on high tempo SAS operations. Nick talks about the most challenging (and unselfish) decision he ever made - to leave the SAS.  From this lowest ebb, Nick was able to establish the Mill Gym, which he has since built into a location where normal people can get started on the road to elite performance, the first step of which is to get out of bed and get your feet on the floor!   Finally, Nick, Ben and Tim compare an SAS Patrol against the High Performance Team model (by Pat MacMillan) .... and deliver their verdict on whether the SAS fundamental force element is, indeed, a high performance team.   Intelligence Summary  https://themillgym.com Gym Jones: https://gymjones.com  At 53:40.
