Tony Farmer was never a professional superstar, but he was the ultimate professional in his 16 years in the NBA and beyond. The 6-foot, 9-inch power forward played for Golden State, Charlotte, Miami), but also spent time with the CBA, ABA and overseas in France, Italy, Russia and Puerto Rico. Born in Los Angeles, Farmer starred at Artesia High School, and averaged 22.6 points and 10 rebounds in his senior season (1987). He was named MVP of the Suburban Conference, and had his jersey retired alongside Tom Tolbert and Ed O'Bannon.

Longevity is an underrated part of the game that we as fans often forget to take into consideration when we talk about successful professional basketball careers. To play 20+ years at any level is extremely impressive and it often doesn’t get the love and recognition that it deserves. Tony Farmer is one who carved out a long, admirable career at ALL levels across the world, including some time in the NBA and we got to hear all about it.The Los Angeles native started his college basketball playing at San Jose State before transferring to Nebraska where they made an NCAA tournament appearance. Farmer still found his way to the NBA after going undrafted in the 1991 NBA Draft. He then went on to play several years overseas that included some hardware, being named to an All Decade Team and earning a championship. We can’t thank Tony enough for being so gracious with his time. He has had so many unique experiences and we are blessed that he shared some amazing stories with us about his basketball journey. American Journalist, Victoria Gaither, talks with Tony Farmer president of the New Plymouth Model Railway Club about the club's history, why you should join and why trains are still relevant in today's world. Tony, a carpenter by trade says his love for trains started as a kid and runs in his family blood. On the club's Facebook page "We are a group of like-minded persons who have built an HO Model Railway layout in a once rundown farm building. The layout features our own railroad " Central Western" which uses the Fruit Salad scheme that still adorn some of the Kiwi Rail locomotives that currently operate on the New Zealand Railway system."
