5G promises to be a revolutionary technology that will impact all aspects of our lives. But how much of that is real? And how much of it is just hype? To get to the bottom of this, I wanted to bring on a seasoned technology expert to show and I couldn’t think of a better person to invite than my friend, Rob Tiffany! Rob Tiffany is the Vice President and Head of IoT Strategy at Ericsson. In his role, Rob drives the Internet of Things strategy and execution. Additionally, Rob is also a best-selling author; a frequent keynote speaker; and serves on the boards of SmartCitiesWorld, the Washington State IoT Council, and Kapios Health. He is also routinely ranked as one of the top IoT experts and influencers in the world by Inc Magazine, Onalytica, and many more! In this episode, Rob and I discuss the value proposition of 5G from a business perspective, why 5G promises a new era of expansion for the Internet of Things, and the steps you can begin to take as a Product Leader to plan for 5G as part of your innovation roadmap. We also talk about some of 5G’s hurdles, including some of its complexities, the cost of switching to this technology, and the pressure it is under in competing in both price and functionality with more established technologies, such as Wi-Fi. This is a fun and informative episode that no Product Leader should miss! Episode Details: The True Business Value of 5G with Rob Tiffany: “Start planning for [5G] right now. It’s already starting to roll out.” — Rob Tiffany About Rob Tiffany: Rob Tiffany is Vice President and Head of IoT Strategy at Ericsson where he drives Internet of Things strategy and execution. This product landed in Gartner’s “Visionary Quadrant” and was a “Strong Performer” in The Forrester Wave. Spending most of his career at Microsoft, Rob was the Global Technology Lead for IoT where he incubated the Azure IoT cloud platform and co-authored its reference architecture. Prior to Microsoft, Rob was the Co-Founder of NetPerceptor where he developed one of the industry’s earliest Mobile Device Management (MDM/EMM) platforms for smartphones. Topics We Discuss in this Episode: Rob Tiffany’s career background and his current role at Ericsson What 5G is, who it is for, and what problems it is trying to solve Why 5G promises a new era of expansion for the Internet of Things The business value of 5G Various industries that 5G can have an impact on Why you need the agility that wireless gives you (beyond Wi-Fi) What CBRS is and how it will help facilitate 5G Why 5G is better than Wi-Fi for enterprises 5G’s hurdles and complexities What Product Leaders should consider when they’re thinking about 5G for their innovation roadmap Product Leader Tip of the Week: As a Product Leader, you should start planning for 5G today. It only took the Australian Prime Minister to beg and plead on National TV for a week straight, but the boys have finally taken social distancing seriously. But have no fear, if poor ratings and a lack of listeners didn't stop us before, there was no way a little pandemic would. This week, Critical Banter goes remote as the boys stop making memes for a few hours to record this episode from all across Sydney. This week we chat about Coronavirus, Rohit gives 2021 graduates some unsolicited advice, Sen shows off his party trick, Kush still has no hair and Miguel gets exposed. Also this week: Pornhub Premium, paternal issues, cow urine, Shia LaBeouf and how young is too young? Segments this week: The Logue: Tired of reaching around each other (at least on the podcast), the boys have instead decided to reach around the week's news stories, events and viral trends. I Want to be a Billionaire: In no way affiliated with “Who wants to be a Millionaire?” but very much works in the same way. #AskTCB: Listeners write in, the boys try their best to answer their questions. Trivia of the Week: As if listening to this podcast wasn't mind numbing enough, the boys leave you with one last piece of useless information to end the show. ___________________________________________________ FULL PODCAST EPISODES
Ignoring all advice from the World Health Organisation, medical professionals and their parents, the boys are back again with another episode. Despite all the fuss about social distancing, Sydney-based rapper Thaman drops by the recording studio to join us for this week's episode. The boys try and lighten the mood by discussing the nuances and industry secrets on how to become a successful rapper, revealing the thoughts they've had in the shower (some of which were deemed not safe for life and excluded from the final cut) and exposing Thaman as he forgets his own lyrics - which he claims to have written. Also this week: Coronavirus, performance enhancing drugs, the Money Dance, Justin Bieber and Gangnam Style Segments this week: The Logue: Tired of reaching around each other (at least on the podcast), the boys have instead decided to reach around the week's news stories, events and viral trends. Shower Thoughts: The segment where we talk about those little epiphanies we have during our everyday lives that make us question our existence. The Reach Around: Like good interviewers do, the boys get around their guest and learn a bit about them in the most homoerotic segment in podcasting. Word Association: Another game that exposes the boys' lack of musical knowledge. They are given a word and, within 10 seconds, must name/sing/rap a lyric containing that word. Trivia of the Week: As if listening to this podcast wasn't mind numbing enough, the boys leave you with one last piece of useless information to end the show. Special thanks to our special guest Thaman, whose brand new single 'No Tension' is out Friday 27th March. You can find him here: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thaman____/?hl=en (https://www.instagr.am/thaman____) 'No Tension': https://fanlink.to/THAMAN (https://fanlink.to/THAMAN) ___________________________________________________ FULL PODCAST EPISODES
It's all over the news, infiltrating workplace chat, assaulting your family WhatsApp group and dominating the cultural zeitgeist; that's right, it's another week of COVID-19 banter from the boys. As the world heads towards impending doom and toilet paper shortages, the boys decide to take a lighter look at Coronavirus before hearing a shameful karaoke display from Kushagra, lamenting other non-Coronavirus related bad weeks and finally cancelling many people and places. Also this week: investing tips, Jake Paul, degenerate gamblers, wasps and Gwyneth Paltrow. Segments this week: The Logue: Tired of reaching around each other (at least on the podcast), the boys have instead decided to reach around the week's news stories, events and viral trends. Finish the Lyric: A game where you finish the lyric. Good Week/Bad Week: The boys discuss people in the news who have had good weeks or bad weeks. Delete This: In honour of the modern day cancel culture, the boys discuss what other events, places or people should be cancelled. Trivia of the Week: As if listening to this podcast wasn't mind numbing enough, the boys leave you with one last piece of useless information to end the show. ___________________________________________________ FULL PODCAST EPISODES
This week is all about Coronavirus and toilet paper. Kushagra has mysteriously disappeared, presumably killed in a black market toilet paper related drive-by shooting, but alas the show must go on. Obviously reeling from the loss of Kush, Rohit struggles through the episode as he gives us his coronavirus survival tips before forgetting how numbers work and then stumbles through a story about Uber. Also this week: Wuhan, balaclava's, hand sanitizer, multiple gym passes and Pennant Hills Road. Segments this week: Global Reach Around: Tired of reaching around each other (at least on the podcast), the boys have instead decided to reach around the week's news stories, events and viral trends. The Price is Right: This is definitely an original game that Rohit came up with on his own. Rules are simple: guess the price of some questionable items on Craigslist to the nearest $5. Out of Touch: The boys discuss their own, or someone else's, opinions or views which could be considered to be out of touch with the common person Dear Gladys: In this segment we vent our frustrations about the sorry state of Sydney and blame the most logical person, Gladys - Premier of NSW Trivia of the Week: As if listening to this podcast wasn't mind numbing enough, the boys leave you with one last piece of useless information to end the show. ___________________________________________________ FULL PODCAST EPISODES
Successful negotiations between Australia and Mexico sees Rohit triumphantly return to join the holy foursome of Critical Banter. This week, desperate first years and defeated fifth years alike descend on Universities across Australia, gearing up for another year of late night cramming, stress-fueled benders and group project shenanigans. Unfortunately for first year students, it won't be long until their hopes and dreams are dashed, as they discover that: 1. The girl that sat next to them will not be their future wife, 2. Their HECS debt will follow them all the way to the grave and 3. Working at the Big 4 will not fill the empty void where happiness once was, nor will it win you the love and respect of your friends and family. Fortunately for them, this week's episode can numb this pain as Sen demonstrates his knowledge of STDs, Kush highlights his passion for train stations, Miguel clarifies his views on Mardi Gras, and Rohit lays the foundation of gender-neutral engineering. Also this week: Spy Kids 4D, cancelling Ke$ha, university cults, disintegrating coins, and Vermouth. Segments this week: Global Reach Around: Tired of reaching around each other (at least on the podcast), the boys have instead decided to reach around the week's news stories, events and viral trends. Bullslut: Thought writing 3 essays in 2 hours was hard? Try naming 20 European countries in 30 seconds. This is the game where, in 30 seconds, the boys try to name as many things as they can - all within a category chosen by the host. Dob in a Rare Unit: Are you a rare unit? Is your family full of rare units? Are your mates rare units? Is your boyfriend/girlfriend/spouse a rare unit? If so, write into us and let us know the rarest thing they've done. Compare and Contrast: Named in honour of our favourite HSC English essay questions, the boys debate the most pressing issues in society and attempt to agree on a ranked tier list, which may end up in broken friendships and definitely will end up being wrong. Trivia of the Week: As if listening to this podcast wasn't mind numbing enough, the boys leave you with one last piece of useless information to end the show. ___________________________________________________ FULL PODCAST EPISODES
Due to controversial comments made on last week's episode regarding Mexicans, Rohit has been sent to North America on a diplomatic mission to fix Australia-Mexico relations. As such, this weeks episode only features Miguel, Sen and Kush as the boys once again revamp the episode format, in a way that can only be described as radical. In this new format, the traditional reach around is now only confined to the boy's private time, instead the episode begins with a global reach around, if you will, where the boys dissect the top stories, events and viral trends of the week. The segments, however, will remain the same as changing that would require actual thought and effort. Also this week: Diamond Princess, dumps, Instagram photos, hotel rooms, trains and Ke$ha. Segments this week: Global Reach Around: Tired of reaching around each other (at least on the podcast), the boys have instead decided to reach around the week's news stories, events and viral trends. Usernames: In this game, the boys are given one word clues which they must use to guess another word the host is thinking of. Mind Your Manners: The boys discuss the dos and don'ts and correct etiquette to help you out of your next awkward social scenario. Well... That Sucks: At Critical Banter we like to enjoy other people's misfortunes. So, in this segment we relive those moments and laugh at those people. Logbook Watch: Join us as we document Kushagra's painstaking journey to attaining a drivers licence. Listen as Kushagra recounts every kilometre he drives across this vast, beautiful continent of ours. Be amazed as Kushagra takes us on this physical, metaphysical and spiritual journey, where he discovers foreign new places, interesting people and creates a lifetime of cherished memories. Trivia of the Week: As if listening to this podcast wasn't mind numbing enough, the boys leave you with one last piece of useless information to end the show. ___________________________________________________ FULL PODCAST EPISODES
The return of Sen marks an unbelievable time for The Critical Banter Podcast - as the boys are back together after six months of gallivanting. To mark this momentous occasion, Sen tells us how to insult old women in Italian, Miguel actually has stories of international nightlife, and Rohit almost becomes a smuggler for the cartel. This week marks the introduction of TWO new segments (a Critical Banter first) as the boys rank Australian Fast Food 'restaurants' and tell their tales on how they've been kicked out - Sen from the holiest place on the planet, Miguel from the yuckiest place in Leeds and Rohit from his Airbnb up the Sydney coast. Also this week: Schapelle Corby, the Cuban government stealing passports, the N-Word Pass, KFC's GOAT status, Red Rooster's existential crisis, communism, priests and breaking and entering. Segments this week: Weekly Reach Around: Like good mates do, the boys get around each other and their week's events in the most homoerotic segment in podcasting. Compare and Contrast: Named in honour of our favourite HSC English essay questions, the boys debate the most pressing issues in society and attempt to agree on a ranked tier list, which may end up in broken friendships and definitely will end up being wrong. Red Handed: The boys are feeling dicey as they decide to air the times where they break laws (rules) and for once pray that no one listens and rats them out. Trivia of the Week: As if listening to this podcast wasn't mind numbing enough, the boys leave you with one last piece of useless information to end the show. ___________________________________________________ FULL PODCAST EPISODES
What do Rohit and Coronavirus have in common? They're both annoying, Asian diseases, who have both recently reached Australian shores. To celebrate Rohit's triumphant return from his Contiki through Cuba, we invite Kushagra's brother, Kartik, onto the show to discuss all things Coronavirus. We also experience more early year rust, as the boys forget how their own game works, Rohit can't count past one and Kartik fails to listen to simple instructions. Also this week: geography lessons, international beggars, turmeric, carpark poopers, professional bad news bearers, Cuban DJ's and Australian Open conspiracies. Segments this week: Weekly Reach Around: Like good mates do, the boys get around each other and their week's events in the most homoerotic segment in podcasting. The Price is Right: This is definitely an original game that Rohit came up with on his own. Rules are simple: guess the price of some questionable items on Craigslist to the nearest $5. It Should've Been Me: The boys recount some terrifying experiences from their past where they have (un)fortunately missed out on the sweet release of death. Conspiracy Corner: As the Critical Banter name suggests, we encourage critical thought, so in this segment we deep dive into some of the most prominent conspiracy theories. Trivia of the Week: As if listening to this podcast wasn't mind numbing enough, the boys leave you with one last piece of useless information to end the show. ___________________________________________________ FULL PODCAST EPISODES
With half the members of Critical Banter missing, we welcome back our first return guest: Glade Wei. Not having recorded for a number of weeks, the boys are back for 2020 with a bit of rust, literally forgetting how their own podcast works. A substantial amount of WD-40 will be needed to get them back in shape. This weeks episode is also heavily movie themed, including 2 semi-serious reviews of Oscar nominated films as well as many musty movie references throughout. Also this week: ankle balls, Kush's logbook, extorting our guest, animal fighting scenarios, Mad Mex, thiccc books, Paul the octopus and dumb pig facts. Segments this week: Weekly Reach Around: Like good mates do, the boys get around each other and their week's events in the most homoerotic segment in podcasting. Banter Reviews: The boys “review” things and give them obviously logical ratings, to be honest we're not even sure how this segment works. 20/20 Vision: A new year and new decade is upon us so the boys look into the crystal ball and share their hot takes and predictions for the future. Trivia of the Week: As if listening to this podcast wasn't mind numbing enough, the boys leave you with one last piece of useless information to end the show. ___________________________________________________ FULL PODCAST EPISODES
Access the full post: http://shakeuplearning.com/43 Today we are chatting about something that may seem a bit taboo. We are talking about some alternative ways to share professional learning tips and strategies through what has been dubbed as #PottyPD. My guest, Pam Hubler, is going to share how she uses #PottyPD to make the most of a captive audience. This idea has been seen in many iterations over the years--Learning in the Loo, Goo in the Loo (for Google-specific learning), Copier PD, etc. Pam shares how she uses #PottyPD on her campus to share tips and resources with her teachers. Pam also shares her Google Drawings template, how she curates with Wakelet, and how other campus leaders can make the most of a captive audience in the teacher's lounge, by the copying machine, in the hallways, and yes, even the teacher's bathroom! [ctt template="1" link="xZt16" via="yes" ]#PottyPD: How to Make the Most of a Captive Audience (FREE TEMPLATE and guest post by @specialtechie)[/ctt] [smart_track_player url="http://traffic.libsyn.com/shakeuplearning/SULS043.mp3" social_linkedin="true" social_pinterest="true" social_email="true" ] ... Shoutout Thank you to Michelle Spradlin Ward for her kind comments in our FREE Facebook community. Do you have a question or idea to share on the podcast? Leave me a message here. #PottyPD: How to Make the Most of a Captive Audience We’ve all been in the restroom at a restaurant and found ourselves reading anything within sight, appropriate or not, right? Well, why not take advantage of the few extra minutes teachers have to give them tips to add to their idea toolkit. I am not the first one to use this strategy; there are many different versions out there. One name for this type of visually-driven bathroom professional development is called #PottyPD, which I started creating immediately after seeing Tara Martin (author of Be Real) share this idea on Twitter and her blog. I just loved the name #PottyPD and had to borrow it! That’s what teachers do…no need to reinvent the wheel! #sharingiscaring As an Instructional Coach, providing professional development is a big part of my job. I also remember what it was like to be a teacher, with very little extra time to attend professional development. Keeping this in mind, I decided to create a visual in the restrooms as a “teaser,” then curate a digital newsletter using Wakelet for teachers to access the same information later if something piqued their interest. I figured this was a way to share information without putting too much in an email that would go un-read (TLDR “To Long Didn’t Read”). I’m not blaming anyone. I’m guilty of it myself. Educators have a never-ending to-do list! #PottyPD Examples Here are pictures of my first year of #PottyPD. You can see that I use a mix of icons, images, and screenshots to create my visual. Enough to catch your eye, read quickly, and make people want to read later. How to Gather Ideas for #PottyPD Each volume of #PottyPD has a Google Form (see image below) attached that asks a few questions to guide what I share on the next one. I also do giveaways to encourage teachers to complete the form. I duplicate the form for each volume, change the image and title at the top, so it matches my printed newsletter, then link it to one Google Sheet so the data is in one place. Each volume will have its own tab in one Google Sheet (click here for more information on how to do this). I use the “What would you like to see more of?” question to help guide my next volume, which I usually do monthly. I also add ideas to a Google Keep note, so I don’t forget what teachers have needed as I help out in classrooms or get information from the district. Your school improvement goals and district initiatives can also guide you in the right direction. Just like planning for technology integration, you want to ask yourself, what’s the end goal? I use this question every time I prepare for professional development. How to Create the #PottyPD Poster Google Drawings! I love the flexibility of the tool. It’s like having a blank canvas that gives you the chance to unleash your creativity! Step 1: Open Google Drawings Go to File>Page Setup>Custom>Change the size to 8.5 x 11 inches Step 2: Add anything you want to your drawing! You can see all the insert options in the image below. I use the shape tools in Google Drawings A LOT! These shapes can be used to fill color, text, images, etc. If you want to use a border, start with a white square shape and make it a little smaller than the canvas. We could go on for days on how to use Google Drawings. Check out the resources linked at the bottom of the post if you want to learn more! Step 3: Create a Wakelet Collection I do this last, so I don’t put too much information on the visual. Wakelet is an amazing curation tool. The image below shows all of your options. Once you publish your collection, click the Share button and copy the QR Code to add to the top of your Google Drawing. You might also want to add the shortened URL to the top in case someone just takes off a picture of it and wants to type it in when they get back to their room. Step 4: Save a copy as a PDF to print for the restrooms Go to File>Download As> PDF I’ll also download it as a PNG image, so I can use part of the visual for the top of my Wakelet Collection (next step) and Google Form. I like to use the plastic sign holders in the bathrooms so it can sit on a counter where you can still read it. It also protects the page for sanitary reasons. I hope this gives you some ideas for your school! Even if you are a classroom teacher, you can use this as a newsletter for your parents. Let us know what you create and share your creations using the hashtag #PottyPD and #ShakeUpLearning. We’d love to see what you create! Dave's back from vacation, Barnabas is off doing something else, and we're uncomfortable in the studio with a special guest: our friend Nick Rynerson. Nick is the chief creative officer at Useful Group (a digital marketing agency you'll be hearing more about in the future); more importantly he loves to read—and he adores Wendell Berry. So we're going to talk about that. Listen in as we discuss: How Nick fell in love with Wendell Berry's writing (but really doesn't want to sound like he's a stalker) If Barnabas is actually funny on Twitter or is it because we know his tone If your life has to be a hot mess to be a brilliant writer Why we need to recapture a sense of presence when we live so much of our lives in front of screens What you need to go into reading Berry's work knowing Why you should read physical books and not eBooks Who Nick wants to punch in the face as part of the Jack Reacher Sucker Punch of the Week As always, thanks to our friends at Lagares Coffee Roaster for partnering with us to make the Table of (mal)Contents blend. A picture-perfect sunset by the sea is the backdrop for this week’s Date Your Wife podcast with married co-hosts, Garrett J and Danielle K White. We discover why Danielle has stepped away from her salon earlier than anticipated and what that has to do with Garrett overcoming his aversion to needles. The topics of sex during pregnancy, surrogacy, and favoritism are also part of today’s conversation. This episode is all about life transitions and how the entire White clan is doing their part to make this transition as smooth and as seamless as possible. Every week married couple Danielle and Garrett J White share insights and perspectives from within their own lives regarding the following topics discussed each month: Week 1: Sex Week 2: Money Week 3: Parenting Week 4: Communication In This Week’s Podcast….PARENTING Point #1: Change of Plans At the time of recording this episode, Danielle is 33 weeks pregnant with seven weeks to go until the arrival of their daughter, Isla. A visit to the ER reveals some news that requires Danielle to alter her plans for the next seven weeks. “I stopped working a little bit earlier than anticipated, and I’m just trying to take it easy. But mentally, it’s a little bit torturous. Yesterday, I went to CVS, and I’m literally standing in line chatting with a bunch of eighty-year-olds while I wait for my prescription and look for compression socks.” QUESTION Where in your world have new circumstances required you to alter your original plans? Point #2: Letting Go While at the ER, Danielle was on the phone conducting business with her team members finalizing details of a huge event coming up. When her lead trainer caught wind of where Danielle was and what she was doing, her message to Danielle was, “Let go!” Danielle: “There comes a point where your health is involved that puts things into perspective. I need to slow down, I need to let go, and I need to trust that my teams have this. Sometimes in life, we have to understand that people may not always do things as you would, but we have to give them the opportunity to rise.” QUESTION Inside your world, where has the ‘letting go’ opened up your world and given people inside of your life the opportunity to rise? Point #3: Favorites Bailee, the White’s twelve-year-old daughter, makes a guest appearance on the show and adds her two-cents when it comes to baby Isla possibly being the “favored” child. “I’m really good with babies, but I already know the main focus is going to be on the baby… and Ruby’s gonna have a tantrum about that. You can already tell Isla is the favorite. She has a hair brand named after her and she has her own cool room with everything new.” QUESTION What are your experiences with the “favored child syndrome?” Point #4: The Sex Game Garrett brought up the fact that there’s not a manual for the guys when it comes to having a pregnant wife. Men have a lot of questions and go through transitions of their own during this time. “The moment this is brought up,” Garrett remarks, “you’re thrown into the blender of you’re a pussy.” “What do the guys do when their sex drive is extremely high? What about sex during the third trimester? What does it mean when you’re not getting laid? What do you do when the sex game completely disappears? If we do have sex, will I hurt the baby?” According to Danielle, “There’s not a guy on the planet who is long enough to poke his baby in the head!” QUESTION How are you and your partner handling this transition from the male’s perspective? Point #5: Seasons of Life Garrett: You’ve got these transitionary moments of up and down and up and down; seasons of one thing, and seasons of another. Things are constantly evolving and changing as a couple, and you’ve got to be ok with the fact that they’re changing. Right now, we’re in a big-ass transition. I look at the fruit of what this time gives us, and it’s giving us an opportunity to slow down. It’s giving us an opportunity to look at things from a different angle, and it’s giving us, as a couple, an opportunity to connect in ways we maybe wouldn’t normally connect. And, it’s giving our family a chance to have a different focus. QUESTION What lessons have your life transitions taught you? What opportunities have they brought into your life? Communication Challenge: Do you have a focus on a vision beyond the transition? Date Night Topic: Consider what transition you’re in and have a conversation about it over a bowl of ice cream. Quote of the Week: “As a couple, if you don’t stay open in the transition, you’re never going to see the window to the next play. It’s very easy to close it down and to want to go back to the way things were.” —Garrett J White “I’m going to be smarter this time. I’m going to enjoy my kids AND keep my sanity. I’m going to be with them, and I’m also going to allow help to come in to help me transition through this period of my life. As moms, we’re human… and we also need our space.” —Danielle K White
Welcome to this episode of the Big Money Stylist with your hosts Danielle and Ani who can hardly contain themselves as they share all of the new things happening inside the beautiful world of BMS and NBR. They also engage in an in-depth conversation about the role of egos and the slippery slope of entitlement. In Big Money Stylist, we go over the following formula each month: Week #1: Power Week #2: Production Week #3: Profit Week #4: Protection In This Week’s Episode…..Power Point #1: ISLA The unveiling of Danielle’s much-anticipated hair line, ISLA, is just around the corner and is only going to be available for the students inside of BMS Mastermind. The quality of the hair is top-notch and has been tested and rested by Danielle herself to ensure quality. It’s also going to make an artist’s jobs easier. There are twelve essential foundational colors where everything is pre-rooted, pre-toned, more grams per weft, and less silicone. In laymen’s terms, it’s the best of the best. QUESTION What are the issues you’re having with the hair currently available to you? Point #2: Get Off the Fence The doors of BMS (Natural Beaded Rose education) are closing in April for the rest of 2019 to any new students, so if you’re on the fence, now is the time to take action. Among the other benefits of being a student, with the shortage of hand-tied hair, not only will you have access to ISLA, but you will also get it at the wholesale cost. QUESTION Where are you in the qualification process? Point #3: BMS = Business, Marketing & Sales BMS is the acronym for Big Money Stylist but some students inside the program are referring to it as Business, Marketing, and Sales. “Everybody has a preconceived notion about what is possible to make, or where they need to live in order to make this work,” but BMS blows the lid off those stories. Ani: One of our platform artists who works five days a week, has one employee, one assistant, 2-3 chairs, and a tiny salon did $75k of her own sales in February. QUESTION How has your income changed since incorporating NBR and BMS into your business? Point #4: You’ve Been Declined In order to be admitted into BMS Mastermind, one of the requirements is to fill out an application, each of which is individually read by head trainer, Ani. She’s the one who gives either the stamp of approval or the letter of denial. Grounds for denial include: 1-you are not currently licensed 2-you’re currently not doing hair or 3-how you respond to the questions. While it might be perfectly natural to have the thought that you already know all there is to know about hair and business, placing that on an application is not the way to get your foot in the door. QUESTION Inside your world, what has been your experience when you have had the attitude of knowing it all? Point #5: Show Me the Money As an artist inside a salon, if you find yourself at a crossroads and are trying to do things differently, the best way to approach your boss is to show them the numbers. Don’t just tell them your vision, SHOW them the numbers and the potential. In the long run, egos and entitlement can only serve you to a certain point. If you’re that person that says it’s not possible to make “that kind of money,” you’re selling yourself short. If you don’t have an open mindset, that leaves you stuck in your beliefs of what you think is possible. QUESTION How has expanding your vision of what is possible opened up your world? Quote of the Week: “As business, hair, and marketing evolve, you also have to evolve if you want to keep up with this game.” —Danielle K White “Our artists are having massive results, ranging anywhere from $10k up to $75k per month!” –Anianne Rivera

In Episode 035 back in October, I talk with Dr. Nirav Shah about the general state of stem cell therapy for stroke survivors. Afterwards, Nirav connected me with the lead researcher on the University of Miami's stem cell research team, Dr. Dileep Yavagal so I could talk to him about his research. That brings us to today's episode. Dr. Yavagal specializes in vascular neurosurgery. That includes procedures like thrombectomy, where a doctor inserts a catheter into a blood vessel in the groin to go up into the brain a pull out the clot. Mechanical thrombectomy can be done up to 24 hours after stroke symptoms begin, and it can have a tremendous impact on minimizing the damage from an ischemic stroke. What it doesn't do today is help patients recover from stroke. It means fewer brain cells die, but the dead and damaged ones don't get any help. When we say time is tissue or time is brain, this is why. Every minute that a clot blocks a vessel, more brain dies. To recover functionality today, we rely on neuroplasticity. PT, OT, Speech therapy, home exercises, eStim, SSRIs, acupuncture, and more therapies are all about encouraging the brain to rewire in such a way that we can work around that dead spot in our heads. But what if there was another way? That's the question stem cell therapy tries to answer. Stem cells, as you may recall from my chat with Nirav, are cells that can become other cells. Embryonic stem cell are the ones we here about in the news, but not the ones used in the trials today. These are critical in embryos because those stem cells turn into all the other cells in our bodies -- nerves, muscle, brain, heart, left pinky, etc. Adults have stem cells, too. The most common source is our bone marrow -- the soft tissue inside our bones where the body actually creates blood. Research is now looking at how we can use the stem cells to drive the growth of fresh neurons in the brain. There are two major approaches in the research, today. The Stanford study demonstrated the safety of its procedure in a small study, but more work is being done to test the effectiveness. That process focused on chronic stroke survivors -- those several years post stroke. In that study, researches a hole in the skull to inject the patient's own stem cells into the damaged area. Results are preliminary, but promising. Dr. Yavagal's work at the University of Miami is different in several ways. First, his work is focused on using stem cell therapy within the first day or two of the onset of symptoms. Secondly, his work relies on donor stem cells since the patient's own stem cells are not available in quantity right after the stroke. Third, his procedure involves delivering the cells to the brain through a catheter, similar to that used during thrombectomy or used to repair an aneurysm. His results are also quite prom, and he's preparing the next phase of study to move the science along and develop safe, effective treatments. The key question we always ask is, "When will this therapy be available?" The answer is we are not there today, despite the clinics popping up claiming to offer the therapy. However, it appears we are 2-3 years out if things go well, or potentially 4-5 years out if they don't. In addition to his work with stem cells, Dr. Yavagal is also one of the leaders of the Thrombectomy 2020 program -- an international initiative to reach 202,000 thrombectomies a year by 2020 and to continue doubling after that. There are communities in the US and around the world where this therapy is simple not available, and yet it can be such an extremely powerful way of reducing the disability caused by stroke, saving hundreds of thousands of people from having to deal with the deficits of stroke and saving billions of dollars in healthcare and disability expenses. We'll talk more about Thrombectomy 2020 in a future episode. Who is Dr. Dileep Yavagal? Dr. Dileep R. Yavagal, MD, FAHA, FAAN, FSVIN is the Director of Interventional Neurology and Co-Director of Neuroendovascular Surgery at the University of Miami & Jackson Memorial Hospitals and Clinical Professor of Neurology and Neurosurgery at the University of Miami School of Medicine. He has recently been appointed to lead the Neurological Cell Therapy Platform at the Interdisciplinary Stem Cell Institute at the University. Dr. Yavagal is an international thought leader in endovascular therapy for ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke as well as a pioneer in the translation of intra-arterial delivery of cell therapy for stroke. He was the national Co-PI of the first US multicenter clinical trial of Intra-arterial delivery of autologous bone marrow stem cells for ischemic stroke: RECOVER Stroke. He was on the on the steering committee of the SWIFT-Prime and MR RESCUE, both landmark randomized clinical trials of endovascular stroke therapy. He co-authored the landmark 2015 AHA Endovascular Stroke Therapy Guidelines as well as the recent groundbreaking DAWN stroke trial in the New England Journal of Medicine. He is the founder and Past-President of the Society for Vascular and Interventional Neurology (SVIN). He has also co-authored the AHA Policy statement on Stroke Systems of Care. Dr. Yavagal has received several state and federal research grants to study endovascular stem cell therapies for ischemic stroke using small and large animal models of stroke in his research laboratory. He is considered a pioneering researcher the field of intra-arterial delivery of stem cells in stroke therapy. Hack of the Week As we head into the gift giving season, we have to start thinking about how to wrap presents. Wrapping paper is great when you have 2 functional hands or you use some sort of gift-wrapping service. If you have just one functional hand, it can be more challenging. You can find videos on YouTube demonstrating one-handed techniques, but I prefer the simpler way. Gift Bags! Seriously, make it easy on yourself and uses theses fancy mini shopping bags. Add some tissue paper to the bag, put the gift in, the lightly crumble some more tissue paper to put on top. Then you're done. If you're feeling really ambitious, you can tie the handles together with ribbon. This week’s episode of the Date Your Wife podcast is coming to you from the beautiful beaches of Cancun, Mexico, where your co-hosts, Danielle K and Garrett J White are on a romantic weekend get-a-way. In this week’s conversation, the powerful duo opens up about the journey and evolution of their sexual rebirth. Every week married couple Danielle and Garrett J White share insights and perspectives from within their own lives regarding the following topics discussed each month: Week 1: Sex Week 2: Money Week 3: Parenting Week 4: Communication In This Week's Podcast.... SEX Point #1: The Cancun Connection Garrett: Part of the game of being married is taking trips, but for a decade, we didn’t go on vacations very often. And when we did, it was a shitshow. I was upset, I'd be working, and we’d get in fights all the time about sex. The first time we came to Cancun, though, there was a sexual revolution that took place for us during that trip. Now, going on vacation is this exciting thing for me. Danielle: We come back here for long weekend get-a-ways, where it's all about having fun, reconnecting, unplugging, and hanging out; it's like having Date Night every night. I think that’s why we like coming here because it was one of the first trips we took together after we finally committed to taking the time to create the space and the money to make it happen. QUESTION: What is the place you go back to that reminds you of your reconnection? Point #2: Doorway to Apathy Danielle: We’ll talk with couples who are having a great vacation, yet they're not having sex and they don't care. I feel it’s an interesting space to be in. They can say, "I have respect for my wife, we don't have sex, it’s not a big deal," but where and how does that trickle down into the relationship? Garrett: When this happens, one of the things a guy will do is to completely shut down sexually and become this sedated, constricted, pitiful man. He will completely cut off his sex drive and lock it away. What women don’t understand is that this lack of sexual energy affects everything about a man's life - inside of his family and his business. Men become sedated dogs who just survive...and they’re okay with it. QUESTION: How long have you been in the "I don't care" phase? Point #3: Rejection Garrett: There are guys who are sexually frustrated as fuck, and they’re trying to find a way out. They go beat the shit out of each other at the gym and then come home to this gorgeous Barbie doll princess-wife on ice blocks. I was begging for hand jobs back then and I was sliding down this path that was very confusing and frustrating. I didn’t know how to get out of it; I didn’t know how to snap out of that game. If you’re a dude who’s thinking: I'm not getting fucking laid, I've been married to this woman for five-ten years, we’ve had two babies, we’re not having sex, it’s awkward as shit, I don’t get blow jobs, we don’t connect, my wife doesn’t even want me to touch her...I get it. I was there with Danielle. If I tried to approach her at all, or even tried to touch her or kiss her in any way, shape or form, she would reject me. Even when I was trying to reconnect, she was still rejecting the shit out of me. QUESTION: Gentlemen, how does Garrett's experience resonate with you? Point #4: Feeling Invisible Danielle: I felt like my needs weren't being met. What I was attracted to at a very young age was this guy who had a lot of drive; I knew he was going to be successful at whatever he did in life. When he got to this place where he was working, working, working - which was what I was initially attracted to - my needs weren't being met with TIME. Garrett was working his ass off, and then he would come home wanting to get laid. Slowly, the courting, the dating, and the fun began to go away. I became resentful of his work, I didn’t want to go to his events, I didn’t give a shit if he was speaking, and I didn’t care anymore. We were in this place where I felt like he wanted more, but I had been in this space for three to four years where my needs weren't being met. "Screw you, you’ve tarnished my trust, why would I cross the line?" I was in a painful place where I began questioning why I was even in this relationship. QUESTION: Ladies, how does Danielle's experience relate to yours? Point #5: Sexual Rebirth Garrett: There has to be this moment where you make a decision: I am willing to do whatever is required to get to this place of my desire. What did I want? I wanted a relationship with my wife where we could communicate, talk, have open conversations, we could battle, we could dialogue, we could have sex or not have sex, we could be playful and flirt, we could hang out and connect - and inside of that, there would be no weirdness. It took years, not months or weeks, but years of working this out to get to where we are today. Danielle: I went through a couple of years where I was thinking I don’t know if I want to quit - probably because I was scared - but I don’t know if I want to continue to stay married. That’s when I decided to just focus on me and my business; I started to focus on growth as a person. In that space, I think that Garrett started to work on himself, too, and we were both getting our mojo back. We've gotten into this powerful space together because we’re choosing it; we're choosing to do the work together. QUESTION: What one thing are you committed to doing inside of your relationship to experience a sexual rebirth? And inside of that, setting myself up on a trajectory of ultimately being able to create the conditions that would set my marriage sexually free." --Garrett J White "Have fun!" --Danielle K White

In This Week's Episode....PROTECTION Golden Nugget #1: Building Your Kingdom is Connected to Purpose This is about Legacy. This is about creating a life that matters. This is about leaving bread crumbs for your children so that they can do it better than you did. It's about protecting the life you have built. If Profitability becomes the standard inside your business and inside of your life, then the possibility to live your Purpose is unleashed. When you have no Purpose, there is no desire to protect that which you build and that which you say you hold close to your heart. Hopeless men cannot lead. Broke men cannot lead. Men without money will struggle to lead. The Voice cannot lead you when you do not have the resources to be used. QUESTION: What actions are you going to take today to get connected with your Purpose? Golden Nugget #2: Don't Be a Cheap Bastard When to spend money and when to save money is a balancing act. If you have learned how to make money, at some point you have to see your life and investing in the experiences and legacy with your children, as worthy to invest in. You might be the guy who blows all of this money so he doesn’t have enough to take care of his family, or you are such a tight bastard that you devalue your Queen, won’t pay for the fucking ballet lessons for your kids, and end up being served divorce papers by your wife during your vacation because you've shown your wife and family that they aren't worth shit. QUESTION: When are you going to start investing in your life: in your wife, your kids and yourself? Golden Nugget #3: The Queen Has to Live and Thrive I had never included my wife in the 'King Eats First' principle, which was not only causing chaos in my marriage, but was not creating an element of safety or security for my wife. This led me to this idea of creating utter safety and stability for my wife by wrapping her up in a bubble of protection instead of exposing her to the elements. I started putting money into an account every single month that my Queen has complete control over. It's literally the 'fuck off' account, and it's also the stability account because at any given time she can open up the app on her phone and recognize that even though I am making a lot of ‘crazy' moves in business, she knows that back home she has fuck off money. One of the best business decisions I have ever made. QUESTION: What are you getting from this conversation right now? Golden Nugget #4: The Castle Must Have Protection Cash is King in business. The business must have a vault and you’ve got to raise the floor in sustainable cash in the business. The business cannot continue to redline every month and your teams must know that you are not redlining. You have to get to a place where cash reserves exist for the business You are going to make decisions inside your business to build a movement that sometimes requires great amounts of cash. You need to make these moves without being in paranoia and scarcity. Do you currently have a vault of cash in your business that is not touched but is simply in play, protected from lawsuits and scrutiny, that sits in a situation that protects the business and your future? QUESTION: What steps will you begin taking today to move away from a place of paranoia and scarcity and into a place of Abundance? Golden Nugget #5: The Mega Vault Backs Everything The Empire Vault or The Legacy Vault: This is the life and the breath of your Empire and Legacy. It is the red hot core of everything that exists. It is what fuels the war. The war is won by those who have the most advanced weaponry and the ability to support and sustain their military forces. It requires money. Building a movement is risky business because that means you are going to piss people off, and when you piss people off they attack. It’s not if, it’s a guarantee. Be willing to take a stand for something and guess what will come to your front castle door? An army to fight you. QUESTION: What is inside your Mega Vault? A Warrior King knows how to Make the Money, Keep the Money and Grow the Money. Quote of the Week: "As men, we have lost the ability to have tokens and symbols that remind us of our codes, values and honor in our own lives. Most of us operate our day to day lives with very little to remind us of what we’ve been called to do. The Warrior’s Way is a belief system. It sits at the core of all my businesses. And inside of that code, the external expression of that as a man, a provider and a King comes down to three kings: Make Money, Keep Money and Grow Money." - Garrett J White
Spotify is a hot topic. I chat about Spotify and its relationship to podcasts on today's show. This month, I am heading out to Social Media Marketing World in San Diego. It's an amazing event, and I will have a recording of my panel in a future episode. I never miss one, and I don't know if I ever will. This is a great event. If you go, I will see you there. This event is filled with many approachable people who can be guests on your show. It's a large event, so you need to be strategic with your approach. Last week, I had Steve Olsher on. My take and his take on finding podcast guests at Social Media Marketing World is a bit different, but I do appreciate what he has done with changing the game. Tip of the Week: As a podcaster, you have an intimate relationship with your audience. Yet, you will ask me questions like what is most important to my audience? If you want to know how often your shows should come out, how long it should be, or how important consistency is ask your audience. You have built the relationship and intimacy. Now use it to make your show better. Go direct to your audience, and when they respond do what they tell you to do. Your show will be better by doing so. How to Get Your Podcast on Spotify: [04:08] We have seen my predictions for podcasts coming to streaming media platforms come true. [04:22] Spotify has made it easy. Pandora hasn't quite opened the gate. [04:39] If you are on Libsyn, and you put your podcast on Spotify, you will start to see interesting downloads. [05:56] Spotify is at the top, but they are not the clear winner. Although, they are a huge player. [06:23] I asked Siri to open a podcast on Spotify, but she opened it on iOS. [06:41] Rob Walch at The Feed talks about how the 18-30 female demographic is doing well on Spotify. Less than half the shows on Libsyn are set up on Spotify. [07:50] Top shows were language, horror, health, philosophy, history, science, medicine, business and true crime. [08:22] The Podcast Report is available on Spotify. 1.1% of my audience came from Spotify. [09:07] In a future episode, I'll be having Joel Comm from Bad Crypto on. This show is exploding, I can't wait to have him on. [09:23] He has seen over a quarter of a million downloads on Spotify. [09:37] Spotify is a big place. If you haven't submitted to Spotify, you should do so. [09:59] The big picture as it relates to Spotify. Number one. Go to where your audience is. Whatever platform you are on, set things up so that your podcast is everywhere. [10:30] My Spreaker stats are less than my Spotify stats. I'm still on Spreaker because I like being where my audience is. [11:07] Put your podcast on YouTube. Leverage the tech that makes it awesome. [11:50] Stop talking about iTunes. If your listeners are on another platform and you keep talking about iTunes, it means you don't know who they are. [12:28] Do you have tech that will grow with you? Hand things over to the people who know what's going on. Don't waste your time trying to do all the small technical stuff yourself. [13:14] Pandora is coming very soon. At some point, even Microsoft, will pull off some type of podcast strategy. [13:52] Have you cleaned up your paths? I was looking at a very popular show, and their album art is actually different on iTunes. Make sure your paths are correct. [14:24] Does your site reflect reality? Make sure you link out to all of the places that your podcast is at. [16:04] Playing podcasts make sense for Spotify. They don't have to pay royalties on podcasts. [16:21] Are you making a show or a podcast? Don't limit yourself by calling your show a podcast, because some people might not understand that they can get it on their platform of choice. [17:25] Short-term idea get yourself on Spotify. For a long-term idea, get yourself on a system that makes it easy to get on platforms like Spotify. [17:49] Let people know that your show is available on these alternative platforms. [19:14] Get on Spotify. Make it easy. Make sure you have the stats and deal with it. [19:25] The bigger picture is if your content is everywhere, it makes it easy for your audience to find you. Cat breaks down the intersectionality of the Afro-latina experience. She wants to bring attention to the deafening lack of representation of her fellow Afro-latinx's. She also challenges what it means to appear "acceptable" within the boundaries of Latin beauty standards. Inspired by Dominican singer Amara La Negra's recent defense of her unashamed Afro-Latina appearance, Cat proposes that this be the time all Afro-latinx's rise up to demand accurate portrayals across Latin mediums.Quote of the Week"As children of the diaspora, our identities have roots in the messy, complicated and ugly history of the Trans-Atlantic slave trade. Our memories are scattered across islands and oceans and continents. But in the struggle of finding who we are, we might be closer to finding we can be many beautiful, synchronized things all at once." -Jess TorreKeep Up With CatSubscribe to the show to ensure you don't miss out on any episodes!Head to www.catlantigua.com to subscribe to her exclusive weekly emails!Follow her on Twitter: @catlantiguaFollow her on Instagram: @cat.lantiguaCheck out her Facebook page: Cat LantiguaKeep following Cat on all of the socials to stay updated on all of the great things coming up! 5 Ways to Nurture Your Doc LifeThere are many ways that we documentary filmmakers take care of ourselves, or perhaps maybe more aptly put, do not take care of ourselves. And with the long hours, sometimes limited budgets, sometimes other day jobs, family life, you name it.. it's no wonder that we doc lifers sometimes tend to neglect our emotional and physical well being. Which is why I'm here to give you a little primer to help steer you back to the path of emotional, physical, and creative success in your own doc life. Podcast ConversationDocumentary filmmaker (and big proponent of meditation!), Rebecca Dreyfus joined me in our shared Conversation. Dreyfus has been working in documentary for 20 years, since her first feature, Bye-Bye Babushka first came on the scene and was quickly noticed by documentary legend, Albert Maysles, who would then go on to be lead camera in Dreyfus' critically-acclaimed follow-up, Stolen. A mentorship would soon blossom from this collaboration. Dreyfus' current documentary film, http://onmeditation.com/ (On Meditation), takes a look at the age-old practice of meditation as told through the eyes of established names who attribute the practice to much of their personal and professional success. Topics Discussedthe value of true persistence as a documentary filmmaker the importance of a mentor and how to go about finding one key advice for first-time documentary filmmakers what part the practice of meditation plays in the creative process Related Resources° Watch the trailer for Rebecca Dreyfus' https://vimeo.com/ondemand/onmeditation (On Meditation) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1_g5F_mp14 ° Trailer for the acclaimed documentary film http://stolenthefilm.com/ (Stolen ) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VG0-st-5H6E #DocLifer of the Week As mentioned in our #DocLifer Community Question of the Week, check out the trailer for fellow #DocLifer, Jaime's current documentary project, http://www.mahjongmovie.com/ (Masters of Mahjong) https://vimeo.com/220673394 Sponsors & Thank You'shttp://freemusicarchive.org/ (Free Music Archive) – Special Thank You to recording artist, http://freemusicarchive.org/music/Dlay/ (Dlay) who supplied the song Whatever for this week's episode of TDL. While we can come up with lists (because everyone loves a list), it’s much more fun to have the baddies get in the ring in a no holds barred battle for galactic dominance. Who would win in a fight to the death? Will you attend a comic book convention between October 01, 2013 and December 31, 2013? [poll id="306" Discussion: Mobius 3: The Airtight Garage The Airtight Garage (French: Le Garage Hermétique or, in its earliest serialised form, Le Garage Hermétique de Jerry Cornelius) is a lengthy comic strip work by the artist and writer Moebius (real name Jean Giraud). It first appeared in discrete two-to-four-page episodes, in the Franco-Belgian comics magazine Metal Hurlant between 1976 and 1980, and later in the American version of the same magazine, Heavy Metal, starting in 1977. It was subsequently collected as a graphic novel in various editions. Mobius has explained that the story was improvised in a deliberately whimsical or capricious manner. For this reason, the story is at times (deliberately) confusing. The "garage" itself is actually an asteroid in the constellation Leo which houses a pocket universe. Major Grubert orbits the asteroid in his spaceship Ciguri, from which he oversees the development of the worlds contained within. Several entities, including Jerry Cornelius, seek to invade the garage. Contact us at podcast@majorspoilers.com Call the Major Spoilers Hotline at (785) 727-1939.
