In this episode of “Sara Gonzales Unfiltered,” Sara and the panel dive right into the breaking news that special counsel Jack Smith asked a judge to drop all charges against President-elect Trump stemming from Smith's investigation into the January 6 U.S. Capitol breach. The decision by the DOJ ends the unconstitutional federal cases against President Trump, and it would seem that all the dominos are falling into place. Sara and the panel shift the discussion to defiant Denver Mayor Mike Johnston, who compared his constituents' willingness to defend their sanctuary city and stand against the federal government to their Tiananmen Square moment. Prominent Republicans voiced their outrage, and Mayor Johnson was forced to walk back his incendiary remarks. The panel focuses attention on the absence of government relief and aid in hurricane-ravished North Carolina, where the North Carolina National Guard posted photos and video showing its around-the-clock assistance to all who needed aid, only for it to be exposed as older and outdated footage. Turns out the National Guard vacated the area some time before and was trying to appear as though Guardsmen were still on the ground helping the hurricane victims. The episode concludes with the re-emergence of Kamala Harris, who has been silent since her concession speech. Kamala Harris is back on the radar as her aides announced she is considering her political future with perhaps a 2026 California gubernatorial run or a 2028 presidential run in mind. Sara and the panel encourage her to make another bid for president in 2028. Sara is joined by Blaze Media investigative journalist Steve Baker and BlazeTV contributor Matthew Marsden. Guardsmen mobilized in Florida, Georgia, North and South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia, with help from the Maryland, Pennsylvania, Mississippi and Connecticut. The efforts are the focus of today's KNSS Salute to Service.
Editor: Stolen valor, every war has those individuals, many actually served; others did not. We called them “PX soldiers.” Recently, there was Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, now the Democrat's nominee for vice president on the ticket with Kamela Harris. Walz abandoned his brother Guardsmen on the eve of their mobilization to serve in a combat zone. He also incorrectly referred to his rank as Command Sergeant Major, which he was not. Nor did he go to war as he claimed. Walz did serve in some capacity, which is more than the majority in politics can claim, but on the other...Article Link

TEXAS AIR NATIONAL GUARDSMEN FROM THE 136TH AIRLIFT WING HELP FACILITATE A FOOD RUN AT DICKIES STADIUM IN FORT WORTH TEXAS JUNE 24, 2020. THEIR MISSION INCLUDES UNLOADING PALETTES OF FOOD, DIRECTING VEHICLE TRAFFIC, AND LOADING CARS WITH FAMILY FOOD BOXES.TARRANT AREA FOOD BANK, CEO JULIE BUTNER, TELLS US THE GOAL OF GIVING BACK TO THE LOCAL COMMUNITY. “This is an emergency box line, the boxes were packed by the 136th Air National Guard. We're planning on feeding anywhere between 1,000 to 2,000 families today. In an emergency box we try to give families enough staples to last a day, two days, three days. Depending on what we receive. We receive the food from the USDA and also from local grocers and manufactures in the area. So sometimes, we're at the will of whatever's being donated to us but we really try to think strategically about the box, what were putting in it, and trying to make it last for a family of four for a couple of days.” THE THREE VARIETIES OF BOXES INCLUDE FRESH PRODUCE, SHELF STABLE ITEMS AND FROZEN GOODS. TARRENT AREA FOOD BANK, AGENCY SERVICES COORDINATOR, TIFFANY TRAYLOR AND DIRECTOR OF MAJOR GIFTS, MEGAN SMOCK, SHARE HOW ALL ITEMS ARE DESIGNED TO GIVE FAMILIES A VARIETY OF FOOD. “This is one of our shelf stable boxes so we have a lot of product that would be able to be kept on a shelf. The families get typically one box, it's good for a family of four. If you have a larger family then you're able to get more." "This is a good hardy box of protein for our clients today. It has a five pound bag of chicken and then four frozen meals that they can use throughout the week or the month. it's nice that its frozen because it'll keep for however long they need it. This is a great distribution because they're getting such a variety of food today, it's not just protein, not just veggies, not just canned food. So it'll last them for a long time." EACH FOOD RUN IS DESIGNED TO SERVE RESIDENTS IN THE DFW AREA WHO ARE IN NEED OF FOOD ASSISTANCE OR WHOSE ACCESS TO HEALTHY FOOD HAS BEEN AFFECTED. "And what we have to get into our heads, although it is difficult, is that [the] glamour of love, odd as it may sound, is just as much present between two homosexuals as it is between a man and a woman."- Lord Brabazon of Tara, House of Lords, December 1957What was it like to be a (practicing) gay man in London after the Second World War? I thought you'd never ask...The short answer: not great! But like everything in life, it wasn't all doom and gloom OR butterflies and rainbows. It was a dangerous time to be queer, but there was also a thriving subculture of artists, MPs, writers, drunks, criminals, Guardsmen, and working class queers – in short, a bit of everyone – who managed to live their gay lives in one way or another. Our guest this week, Peter Parker, has collected their diaries, court cases, bitchy theatre reviews, puff pieces (or is it poof pieces?), and more in what is only the first volume of his incredible time capsule detailing queer life in London before the decriminalization of homosexuality (partial and tentative thought it was) in 1967.When I read Peter's book, I laughed, sobbed, screamed, and gasped. I could not put it down for hours. It's a reminder that real history is not a story of politicians and battles. It's the stories of real people. People who loved, suffered, lived, and died in a world that, only 80 years ago, was vastly different than ours.I hope you enjoy this chat with Peter as we uncover the dirty deets of life for gay men in London between 1945-1959: which parks to cruise in, who the best rent boys were, which gay soirées to meet John Gielgud and Michael Redgrave at, and of course, the real reason Noel Coward never revealed his BLATANT homosexuality to his adoring public.Make sure you pick up a copy of the book, which is out today! It is a vivid and singular experience – we all owe Peter Parker our gay gratitude for this feat of loving research and magisterial curation. For more from Historical Homos, you can join our cult at www.historicalhomos.com and follow us on Instagram and TikTok.If you like what you hear, please leave us a five star rating on Apple or Spotify. Episode Summary: In episode 182 of the Aerospace Advantage, Tomorrow's Air National Guard: Lt Gen Loh Conversation, Heather “Lucky” Penney and Lt Gen Joseph "Gus" Guastella, USAF (Ret.) chat with the Director of the Air National Guard. Whether discussing air superiority, aerial mobility, aeromedical evacuation, or cyber—Guardsmen are deployed around the globe every single day helping meet combatant command demand. But the Air Guard is also facing challenges. Along with the rest of the Air Force, equipment is aging, and the Air Force is not sufficiently funded to procure replacements fast enough. This is especially pronounced in the fighter mission area. Jets procured in the 70s and 80s are hitting the end of their service lives, but we're not buying enough aircraft fast enough to replace them. Demand isn't going down, which drives the remaining force even harder. Join us for this incredibly insightful leadership conversation to learn where the ANG is headed and why. Space Power: Why States, National Guard Association Say “No!” To Defense Department Space Units Plan There's a Department of Defense legislative proposal to move Air National Guard space units into the U.S. Space Force that has unified all 55 state and territorial governors with the National Guard Association in opposition. This week's episode is about this extraordinary dispute. The parties cannot even agree on the number of space units or Guardsmen and Guardswomen that would be affected if the proposal is passed and then signed into law. Laura Winter speaks with National Guard Association President Maj. Gen. (ret.) Frank M. McGinn; and Director of Joint Staff, Joint Force Headquarters, Colorado, Brig. Gen. Michael Bruno, who was the Executive Officer for 137th Space Warning Squadron at Greeley Air National Guard Station.
Most National Guard professionals performing space missions would retrain or retire rather than join the Space Force, the Air National Guard internal survey shows. As the Air Force senior leaders continue to defend a legislative proposal to move all space units within the National Guard to the Space Force, up to 86% of all Guard space personnel say they will stay in the National Guard and retrain instead of switching over to an active service branch. Imagine your daughter as a rising star for years in the Army is suddenly demoted fromE6 to E1 after reporting a toxic work environment and sexual assault? Now imagine that same daughter passing away just six weeks later after being denied a medical board and receiving an other-than-honorable discharge, out of money, facing failing health, and leaving behind two children. Join me this Wednesday as we talk to Felicia Cavanagh, the Mother of Allison, and my dear friend Sandy Duchac, from the non-profit Veteran Sisters, an advocacy group assisting with her case. Felicia Cavanagh is a USAF Veteran and mother of Sgt. 1st Class Allison Bailey. Since the passing of Allison in March 2023, Felicia has devoted herself to the pursuit of justice and accountability for her daughter. Felicia has been in multiple news articles and featured in the KTNV “Guarding the Guardsmen” series where she tells Allison's story of retaliation which ultimately led to her death.Felicia has researched Allison's military records; her medical and medical board request, as well as her legal file which, according to Felicia, violates numerous Constitutional rights along with a myriad of other legal concerns. Due to the severe nature of Allison's mistreatment, Felicia requested Nevada Senators Rosen and Cortez-Masto initiate an outside investigation. Felicia was granted this request and currently, a DoD IG investigation is taking place, looking into Allison's sexual assault and discharge.Felicia is also working to change NRS 412.2879 for all Nevada soldiers to grant the right to request and receive a Court Martial if charged with a serious offense. Felicia has earned the support of a State Senator on this endeavor.Ultimately, it is Felicia's goal to have this change made for all military members in every state and the nation. Felicia is also pursuing reform of the medical board system. Allison was deemed both mentally and physically not fit for duty, but yet denied her request for a medical board. This decision removed her required care and benefits at discharge, leaving her to die just six weeks later without any disability benefits. Before the loss of her daughter, Felicia was a retired Operations Manager. Felicia began her career in Logistics when she joined the USAF in 1987. Felicia managed facilities for UPS, Henry Schein, and Cardinal Health, supervising upwards of 150 employees, and managing inventory of up to one billion.Felicia is a graduate of Embry Riddle Aeronautical University where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Technical Management and Accounting.Visit my website: https://thehello.llc/THERESACARPENTERRead my writings on my blog: https://www.theresatapestries.com/Listen to other episodes on my podcast: https://storiesofservice.buzzsprout.com

Lt. Col. Oliver North, USMC, Ret. joined me for a special conversation about his life as a caregiver for his wife, Betsy. I sent the manuscript of my new book, A MINUTE FOR CAREGIVERS - When Every Day Feels Like Monday to Col. North's publishing company (Fidelis Publishing). The manuscript resonated deeply with Col. North - who is in his own difficult caregiving journey. He not only expressed a great desire to publish this book but also graciously offered to write the foreword - which I included below: Foreword by Oliver L. North The Mayo Clinic diagnosis wasn't good—but at least we had one, instead of guessing. After returning from an assignment as an embedded correspondent and host of War Stories on FOX News, I believed Betsy—the half-century-plus love of my life; my best friend on earth; mom to our four magnificent adult children; “Nan” to our eighteen terrific grandchildren—must have had a stroke. Lots of people, including my own mother, recovered from strokes. Betsy will too, I hoped. I was wrong. After several days of carefully examining Betsy and countless images of her head and body, the extraordinary doctors at Mayo gently delivered their findings— verbally and in writing: “Your wife has a degenerative, asymmetric brain disorder called corticobasal syndrome . . . It is characterized by apraxia and rigidity on one side of the body . . . These symptoms are often accompanied by dementia and ‘cognitive disarray' . . . As of now, it is incurable, and untreatable . . .” My initial reaction to this devastating diagnosis was, "Betsy, you and I have been through a lot together. We have so many things planned for our “Golden Years”! I'm a U.S. Marine; we're a team and followers of the Miracle Worker, Jesus Christ!" We're going to beat this evil malady. But we haven't. Shortly after we returned home from Rochester, Minnesota, MajGen John Grinalds, USMC (Ret), and his wife, Norwood—dear friends since the 1970s when their examples led us to our faith in Christ—came to visit us. After listening to the diagnosis, John asked, “Who are you feeling sorry for, Betsy or you?” After thinking about it, I replied, “Me.” John nodded and said, “Your new mission, Marine, is become the very best caregiver Betsy will ever have on earth!” Thus, began for me, the most challenging physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual experience of my eighty years on earth. That was nearly five years ago. Despite many months of reading, listening to “coaches,” viewing countless videos, even keeping company with several thousand terribly wounded Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Guardsmen, and Marines—and their families—I was exhausted and adrift on how to be Betsy's caregiver. Then, Peter Rosenberger sent his draft of this inspiring book. Finally, I thought, someone who knows what I'm going through. He's been there, done that! A Minute for Caregivers is now my “go-to” primer for every challenge I face in caring for my best friend. If being a caregiver to someone you love is part of your life, you need this book. www.hopeforthecaregiver.com/book
All too often history repeats itself -- with tragic results. During the last 100-years, the killing of one person becomes symbolic and spawns a larger tragedy. Irregularly bubbling to the surface these crises rise from elemental rents and systemic failures in the fabric of society. We call to mind the deaths of George Floyd in Minneapolis on May 25th, 2020 and beating of Rodney King in Los Angeles on March 3rd, 1991 and so on cascading back to the stoning and subsequent drowning of Eugene Williams on July 27th, 1919 off Chicago's 29th Street Beach. The violence inflicted on these three men (and countless others) focused outrage to rally outcries, spark civil unrest and riots lasting multiple days. The conditions fanning the flames did not occur in a vacuum nor isolation, but built over time, due to compounding slights, inequality, and oppression. Although intermittent riots sprang up in different eras and regions of the country, the basic facts were the same; Black men were killed or beaten by white policemen or in Eugene Williams' case, stones thrown and the palpable anger of whites against Blacks caused the drowning of the 17 year-old. In the aftermath of these deaths and days of violence people asked, “Why did this happen?” In Windy City Historians podcast Episode 29 - “The Chicago Race Riots of 1919” we explore the conditions of that hot, “Red Summer”, where Chicago, (and other cities) wrestled with the chaos of civil unrest. Through interviews with Claire Hartfield, the author of “A Few Red Drops: The Chicago Race Riot of 1919”, as well as commentary from Professor Charles Branham, Ph.D. we walk through the riot's lasting legacy on Chicago, it's Black community, and the many questions raised by an oppressive summer a century ago. Questions that are still being raised today, more than a century later. Robert S. Abbott, Publisher of the Chicago Defender Crowd in front of a storefront during the race riots in 1919. Host Johnny Punish welcomes Dan McKnight of Bring Our Troops Home to discuss Endless Wars and American Foreign Policy moving forward. In this episode, the gents discuss the current situation in Ukraine and how to get the Congress and Executive Branch of government off the war diet, arms selling, and cheap oil causing harm to U.S. Citizens and our fellow global citizens around the world.Sgt. Dan McKnight is a thirteen-year veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces, including service in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, U.S. Army, and Idaho Army National Guard. He deployed for an eighteen-month combat tour in Afghanistan from 2005 to 2007.Bring Our Troops Home is a veterans advocacy organization founded in February 2019 by Dan and other veterans of the Global War on Terror. It speaks on behalf of the majority of veterans who believe we must end our wars in the Middle East. You can see polling on their website for numbers - https://bringourtroopshome.us/polls.The cornerstone project of Bring Our Troops Home is the “Defend the Guard” movement. Defend the Guard is state-based legislation that would prohibit the deployment of National Guard units into active combat without a formal declaration of war by Congress, as required by Article I, Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution. The National Guard forms the backbone of the U.S. military. Over 45% of the troops deployed and 18% of the casualties incurred by the Global War on Terror were Guardsmen.Passage of this bill in multiple state legislatures would force the federal government to follow what is already federal law, and either ends our foreign policy of multiple endless wars and foreign occupations or make Congress fully accountable for their decisions.Defend the Guard has been formally introduced as a bill in 20 states as of 2022, and we have commitments from potential sponsors in a dozen others. We are working on a fifty-state strategy for the 2023 legislative session, and states we're particularly excited about include Arizona, Kentucky, Wyoming, and Idaho. As a non-profit, they educate fellow citizens and encourage lawmakers related to their preferred legislation. It is a parent's worst nightmare. The abduction of a child is more than traumatic but what if two of your children simply disappeared. That is precisely what happened on March 25, 1975, when 12-year-old Sheila Lyon and her little sister, 10-year-old Katherine departed from their home to walk ½ mile to the local shopping mall in Wheaton, Maryland, a suburb of Washington, DC. The girls made it to the mall but never made it home, they would never be seen again. This case has many twists and turns, but a dogged investigator and his team refused to give up. As the battle raged between the U.S. Marshals and the Doolin-Dalton Gang, Tilghman narrowly missed a legendary – but tragic – shootout between the two sides. In the aftermath, an elite group of manhunters, including Tilghman, pursued the gang day and night. Tilghman had the honor of cornering Bill Doolin, but he would need Heck Thomas's help to finally put an end to the “king of the outlaws.” Join Black Barrel+ for ad-free episodes and bingeable seasons: blackbarrel.supportingcast.fm/join To advertise on this podcast, please email: sales@advertisecast.com For more details, visit our website www.blackbarrelmedia.com and check out our social media pages. Bill Tilghman grew up idolizing Wild Bill Hickok. When Tilghman was 24, he became a full-time lawman in Dodge City during the peak of its wild years as one of the wickedest towns in the West. He worked with the Earp brothers and the Masterson brothers, and occasionally, Doc Holliday. And he lured Wyatt into a political fiasco known as the Gray County War before moving to Oklahoma and accepting a Deputy U.S. Marshal's badge. One of the most dangerous jobs in Oklahoma Territory is that of a U.S. Marshal. After the Doolin-Dalton Gang robs a series of trains, Deputy Marshal Chris Madsen and his posse fought in deadly shootouts to stop the gang once and for all. There were casualties on both sides, but Madsen and the marshals prevailed. Chris Madsen was a Danish immigrant with a colorful past, but one thing was certain: he loved action. When he moved to America, he joined the Fifth Cavalry and fought on the Northern Plains for nearly 15 years. Then, he traded his uniform for a Deputy U.S. Marshal badge and started chasing bandits across Oklahoma Territory. The Dalton Gang plagued Oklahoma Territory in the early 1890s. After the disastrous Coffeyville Raid, the gang reformed as the Doolin-Dalton Gang, with Bill Doolin at the helm. The U.S. Marshals hired a legion of deputies, including Chris Madsen and Bill Tilghman, to bring down the gang, and Heck Thomas dealt the final blow when he cornered Bill Doolin in 1896. Henry Thomas, Jr., better known as Heck Thomas, was a young lawman in Georgia before he caught what he called “a severe case of Texas fever.” He became an express messenger on a railroad and then a self-made detective. He squared off with notorious outlaws like Sam Bass and the Lee Brothers, and earned a reputation that led him to Oklahoma Territory as a Deputy U.S. Marshal. Conservatives continue to focus solely on Biden and the midterms, while failing to see how Republicans are already betraying them. Last night, Republicans funded more inflation and clot-shot mandates with the defense bill, yet nobody cares. GOP governors are going along with punishing Guardsmen for not getting the shots. Then, we still have people getting thrown in jail for Jan. 6 while not having committed actual crimes. What are we going to do to stop this political persecution? We are joined by Pinal County, Arizona, Sheriff Mark Lamb, who warns that tyranny cannot succeed without the complaisance of local law enforcement. He explains his "sheriff's posse" program to establish a seamless relationship between local law enforcement and the community to ensure that a firewall against tyranny is built at the local level. Our challenge is to use and expand this idea throughout the country. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

It was 30th May and the rusty liner the Canberra headed back into San Carlos water. On board were reinforcements from the 5th Infantry Brigade including the Gurkhas, the Scots and Welsh Guards. They had been collected from the QE2 liner which had docked at South Georgia with the Guards and the Gurkhas, from where they were collected by the Canberra. Also on board was the new commander, Major-General Jeremy Moore who was to take over from Brigadier Jeremy Thompson. The command post at San Carlos was the outside lavatory and cloakroom for the Port San Carlos Social Club in better times – and Moore surveyed his new HQ then headed out to talk to the troops. The lack of Sea King helicopters meant the British forces were back on their transport equipment number ones, their boots. It was 3 Commando's Brigades' fate to continue to march across East Falkland, towards the chain of hills surrounding port Stanley. 45 commando had left San Carlos with 3 Para on the 27th May, and were plodding doggedly over the hills, marshes and streams towards Douglas settlement. That night, at ten pm, they collapsed into sleep after the 13 mile route march, across terrain that left 15 men injured – sprained ankles, pulled muscles, cracked bones. Meanwhile, Brigadier Thompson was worried. He knew that Mount Kent was strategically important and wanted it populated by British troops before the Argentinians woke up to its crucial role – should they send artillery spotters here the British would be vulnerable to observed artillery fire. For the next week, the Royal Navy devoted most of its attention to the problems of the 5 Brigade. On the afternoon of 3 June, the Welsh Guards began their long march to Goose Green from San Carlos, walking for 12 hours before the whole exercise was abandoned. The Guardsmen were not ready for this heavy going, and they were too heavily laden – and their snotracs broke down every few miles. Back they marched over Sussex Mountain. 3 Brigade sneered at the news – what a contemptable start they thought. Remember they were on the hills above Stanley, and now forced to hang around the freezing mountain waiting for 5 Brigade to get its act together. It was now that the fate of so many men was decided – the only other way for these soldiers to get to Fitzroy at speed was by sea – and to a scene of a tragedy that would be the worst loss of life in any single engagement for the British during the entire Falklands War.
