DOGE ON MARS. 1/4: For the Love of Mars: A Human History of the Red Planet by Matthew Shindell (Author) https://www.amazon.com/Love-Mars-Human-History-Planet/dp/0226821897/ref=tmm_hrd_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr= Mars and its secrets have fascinated and mystified humans since ancient times. Due to its vivid color and visibility, its geologic kinship with Earth, and its potential as our best hope for settlement, Mars embodies everything that inspires us about space and exploration. For the Love of Mars surveys the red planet's place in the human imagination, beginning with ancient astrologers and skywatchers and ending in our present moment of exploration and virtual engagement. National Air and Space Museum curator Matthew Shindell describes how historical figures across eras and around the world have made sense of this mysterious planet. We meet Mayan astrologer priests who incorporated Mars into seasonal calendars and religious ceremonies; Babylonian astrologers who discerned bad omens; figures of the Scientific Revolution who struggled to comprehend it as a world; Victorian astronomers who sought signs of intelligent life; and twentieth- and twenty-first-century scientists who have established a technological presence on its surface. Along the way, we encounter writers and artists from each of these periods who take readers and viewers along on imagined journeys to Mars. By focusing on the diverse human stories behind the telescopes and behind the robots we know and love, Shindell shows how Mars exploration has evolved in ways that have also expanded knowledge about other facets of the universe. When The White Ship hit a rock near Barfleur on 25th November, 1120, she sank, killing all 300 noblemen on-board. Among the dead was Henry I's one legitimate son, William Adelin, plunging the English throne into a dynastic crisis. Like the Titanic, the vessel was considered the epitome of safety and prestige for its time, Captained by Thomas FitzSteven, whose father had piloted the boat that brought William the Conqueror to England. But, despite this pedigree, the crew and passengers' decision to a) get drunk and b) race the King home sealed their doom. In this episode, Arion, Rebecca and Olly uncover the plotting that unseated the next in line to the throne (because she was a GIRL); explain how a humble butcher was the sole survivor of the shipwreck; and consider why contemporaries thought it was all God's work… Further Reading: • ‘900 years since the White Ship disaster' (British Library, 2020): https://blogs.bl.uk/digitisedmanuscripts/2020/11/white-ship.html • 'Earl Spencer - The White Ship, the worst ever royal disaster' (The Oldie, 2020): https://theoldie.co.uk/blog/the-900th-anniversary-of-the-worst-ever-royal-disaster • ‘The White Ship by Charles Spencer' (Brights of Nettlebed, 2020): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yVKDHDgyTXY #Medieval #Royals #Mistakes #Rowing #France Love the show? The Andrea Gail was a 72-foot swordfishing vessel that disappeared during the historic "Perfect Storm" of 1991, a catastrophic convergence of weather systems that produced massive waves and powerful winds in the North Atlantic. Captained by Billy Tyne, the boat carried a crew of six seasoned fishermen from Gloucester, Massachusetts, each with years of experience at sea. Despite being well-prepared with provisions and equipment for their long voyage, the storm's unparalleled ferocity overwhelmed the vessel. After a final, ominous radio transmission, the Andrea Gail vanished, and despite extensive search efforts, only small fragments of debris were ever found. The boat's loss remains a profound maritime mystery, emblematic of the perils faced by Gloucester's fishing community.(commercial at 9:09)to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.com

The Trimaran makes it's debut.By 2soon2no – Listen to the ► Podcast at Steamy Stories. Cujo was working on the port side engine when his cousin Kim warned him about the vessel approaching. It had no identification on the radar, and in these waters it could be a pirate ship or a fishing ship, so it had to be observed, in case rough measures were called for.Marko was at the helm of the Flipper, and the radio quickly squawked out his warning."Unknown vessel please identify yourself and hold off," He instructed, just to be formal. If the ship was fishing, it would not be likely that they would have a radio.Their salvage craft had not been named yet, although radar would show it as 'SV Jenny'. Kim knew what to do, bearing off at the best angle of escape, while the Flipper stayed on their beam."They have changed direction in an obvious move to intercept us," Kim shouted out for Cujo, so the big guy would get ready for action. When he came up top, he had a military shotgun and a flak vest, with another vest in hand for his friend."Mayday, mayday, I have an unidentified vessel pursuing us at high speed, and we will be repelling any attempt to board us," Marko informed whoever was listening. His vessel could easily get away, but he was running security for his friend, and he was well equipped to do just that."Fire that 50 cal well in front of them Marko!" Cujo commanded.Ten seconds later another cousin, who had military training fired their old machine gun, making a hell of a racket which any sailor would respond to immediately. The response unfortunately was the opening of the port side windows and the barrels of two AK47s were pushed out, and fired without aiming."Rake it!" Cujo commanded over the microphone, just as Jasper opened fire directly at the waterline at the bow.The 50 caliber bullets tore through the boat as if it was paper mache, and the nose dipped enough to know that the boat was damaged badly enough that it might not make it to shore. The pursuit was over, and Cujo was satisfied that they hadn't deliberately killed anyone. There would be no assistance offered to the Honduras Pirates, but the incident was reported without mention of the machine gun."I'm heading back down to finish that turbo repair," Cujo told Kim. "Let Marko know they did great, but they can't go ahead of us until we are well into Belize.""Eye eye Admiral," Kim joked."Keep some eyes on the horizon tonight, I want three on watch at a time so there will be no surprises," Cujo growled, "They must be desperate, if they're attacking two vessels, watch closely for another ship.""Try to put me on a late watch, if I get this engine going, we'll be motoring faster than anyone else can go." Cujo growled as he pushed himself into his 24th hour.Kim heard the port engine roar to life about an hour later, and ten minutes later Cujo came up, looking tired, but triumphant."Let's open her up but watch the temp," he commanded his first mate. The sails were no use to them at this time of year, unless they wanted to smash against the current and the wind.Soon they were up to 7 knots, and Cujo knew that they would never be caught at that speed."Can I get two hours Kim?""Sure, bro, I've got the helm and I'll wake you in 2 hours or sooner if I need you.All he got was a thumbs up as Cujo dropped into a lounge chair. He was snoring in less than five minutes.Kim let him sleep until he couldn't stay awake himself, and then he woke his captain with a light touch on his well muscled shoulder."Sorry Cap, but I need you," he explained the situation."The sun is on the horizon, and Terry is at the helm on the Flipper,""Thanks for the extra Z's Kim, I'm getting old," Cujo murmured."Well, with good Captaining, and our 50 cal, you get to be another day older bro," Kim explained the way things work."Those other dudes either had a life raft, or they're in the drink, cause their boat disappeared from the radar, well before it should have," Kim reported."Good riddance to thieving rubbish," Cujo growled, "They poked the wrong bear," he roared out to the wind. The rest of the sail was uneventful, and they found themselves coasting into their dock two days later, with kids running out to welcome them. Other Captains used their horns to welcome the new addition to the Seafaring Delight Charters. They now employed over a dozen Belizians in the business, while they were mostly part time, that is the way they liked it. In Belize, working more than 20 hours a week was scoffed at. There was fishing and diving and farming to provide food, so why work your tail off?Marny didn't see it as working. She just kept on going, like the energizer bunny on the commercial. She keeps going and going..."We need more dock space," she complained, "...but Old man Burly has me hemmed in!"Java had to be the voice of reason. "You're just going to have to see what he wants mom, he's got us by the short hairs, and he knows it. See what he needs," she suggested."I think I could convince him to sell, if I threw you in for a night of bliss," Marny teased her daughter, recalling how often the old man came out of his home, when Java was working on the dock."Don't be offering my virtue, he'd fuck you just as quick mom, I mean, if he can!" Java giggled.Marny knocked on the wooden plank that Mr. Burly called a door."Hey Tomas, are you home," she hollered, while banging her fist on the door."Don't break it down you crazy bitch," Tomas Burly moaned as he pushed the door open, proving that hinges were actually a part of the mechanism. "Why are you interrupting my nap?" he declared."We want to buy out your 75 feet on our South," Marny explained. "What do you want for it Tomas?""I need two things, Mar, and one you don't got!" Mr. Burly instructed his neighbor. "I need to sell both sides, which I bet you can cover, but I need a nice retirement spot, and a woman to cook and comfort me during my old age."Marny thought about it, and realized that it was not only a reasonable request, but she probably had a cousin or two that Tomas could choose from, with their own cabin too, though it was a 'shack' by North American standards, they were good homes to them, and when a cyclone tears them down, they just gather up the debris, and remake their homes, better than they had been before, which wasn't asking too much."I'll get back to you, but in the meantime, how much for both ends?" Marny needed to be prepared to hear the full cost of their expansion."I'll take 100k for the 200 feet, or rent it to you for 10, per year,'' he shrewdly offered."How about 10 percent of our profits for ten years, and a home to enjoy it in," Marny countered."I need 25 thousand for my bar tab," he insisted."We will cover that," Marny offered, and Tomas shook her hand. "You can start your dock work right away then, but what about the woman?" He moaned hopefully.I can make no promises there Tomas, but if you continue to maintain the docks, we will give you a small pension, and all of my cousins love a man with a pension, and you can take your time picking one, she shrewdly offered her captivated neighbor. His eyes hadn't left Marny's upturned nipples during the entire conversation. She had been smart to negotiate topless."Is it really hard, Tomas," Marny asked in a smoky voice."Yes," he grunted, but his mind was elsewhere."Do you want to yank it right now Tomas? Go ahead, let's see it," Marny whispered.Tomas pulled it out, and started to slowly stroke it, not like a maniac at all.His penis didn't look like some shriveled piece of liver. It was actually not too awful looking Marny thought."My cousins will shake your world Tomas, very like how I am going to do you right now," Marny explained, then she dropped to her knees and she gently took over yanking the old dick on her tits, smiling all the time."My Aunties love the taste, but it's not for me," Marny explained with a laugh, as Tomas Burly sealed his deal with his loving neighbor.Marny would sleep well tonight, knowing that a friendship with Tomas was very much in their best interests. The Burly brothers had worked hard to create these docks, and they had been well maintained."Can you watch the kids tonight mom," Java asked, her husband had been away for 5 days!"Of course my dear, that's what Nana's are for!" Marny responded, smiling inside. It's wonderful when your daughter finds a man like Cujo, and she has him mesmerized. But you couldn't blame a Nana who has 'accidentally' seen her son in law's full erection. That is something that she could not see, and then, 'not see'.She also knew that Java kept it spicy in their bedroom, bringing in swinging couples, with confidence. Java had Captained many times now that they had two functioning vessels, and that didn't seem to bother Java or Cujo."We are going to check out every cabin in our new boat," Java confessed to her mother. "I asked Rob to show me how I would have been ravished, if he wasn't there to save my virtue." Cujo's real name was Rob, though only the family knew it. Cujo was a name that Stephen King would have called him, had he known him.Rob was a lot like a St. Bernard in that he was bigger than normal, stronger than normal, and more loving than you could ask for, unless there was trouble... Then you wanted Cujo, and you wanted him on your side.A third charter vessel would really set them as a high end Retreat and Spa."We need two more Captains, and I'm thinking we can entice a couple of Nurses that have, or will soon have their Certified Sexual Therapist credentials," Shylo explained during their weekly Company Meeting. With their medical qualifications they can certainly get work visas in Belize, and they could get permanent resident status in about 5 years, if they want that option. As the Company grew, their client list grew too, even though their required advance screening, now included a discrete psych evaluation with the blood work, and visual inspection, which could include other testing, etc. They considered themselves lucky, that herpes or genital warts hadn't slashed through their ranks, and now they had simple protocols that reasonable adults might want to put into place, if they're going to have adult fun in the sun!Chloe was a great choice. She was on the stout side, but that made her more commanding, which wasn't lost on a Captain. She had proven to be a great repeat crew member, and she wasn't attached to any one person in her Chattanooga neighborhood. When a big student debt was revealed, Shylo's institution was happy to shift some funds, to relieve that debt, and give them a big tax write off too.Chloe would get an offer that would include shares in the business, so that she would have a personal interest in everything. Shylo flew to Chattanooga to make the offer on behalf of Seafaring Delight Charters. Everyone was confident that Chloe could learn the skills to be a Charter Captain, but Chloe decided to take a 6 month sabbatical from the Hospital, which she could gain through her Union as a 'skill enhancement' period. She was newly certified in Sexual Therapy, so taking 6 months in a clinical environment to solidify those skills was not unusual, though it brought a smile to everyone's face."I fully believe that you will only be back here to sell everything that you can't bring with you," Shylo explained to Chloe."I hope you're right, I am tired of 'not quite fitting in'," Chloe sighed. "I never really feel the love, anywhere that I go.""We need to figure out the Who of what you're looking for," Shylo suggested. "Or the multiple 'Whos," she seriously intoned. "Some people don't connect like others do. "What part of the body do you find the most attractive Chloe?""Well... to tell you the truth, I just love the mouth," Chloe admitted. "It can be a man, a woman, old or young, if I see it, I want to lick it and kiss it, and look at it closely.""Unusual," Shylo admitted, then she ran her tongue slowly around her lips, while Chloe watched."Oh, that's not fair," she squealed."Do you want these lips on your pillow? Chloe? Do you want to love them for the night?""Oh, so unfair," she moaned.Shylo did not take off any clothes, she merely lay in Chloe's bed, with her lips, center stage.Chloe began with little kisses, all around Shylo's open maw. Then her tongue couldn't get enough, with kitten licks she tickled a lip, while her hands were probing Shylo's body, removing clothes along the way.The kissing never stopped as Chloe pushed her fingers into Shylo's love nest. She easily found the G spot, and lightly started to stroke her desire into her lover, while she remained obsessed with Shylo's lips."Oh, my dear, you're going to find lots of love in Belize," Shylo was convinced that Chloe's fetish would not be a problem. "Once your lover knows what you want, you will be loved, my beautiful friend, and with that Shylo burst into an orgasm, and she allowed herself to fully express her passion, to Chloe's delight.Within three months, Cujo and his crew had Jenny restored to a better state than she had been the day she ran aground. The official naming day brought out the usual scallywags and drunkards, most of whom got 30 or 40 days of work in these yards over the past 3 months, enough to keep them happy for a long time. If you want a cabinet maker or an avionics expert, Belize has the best, and they are all cousins of Marny's family.Marny would be the first to Captain the Emerald of the Fleet. This vessel was being premiered as a luxury health spa, so the weekly fee was a staggering $10k per person. They had three couples in for the maiden voyage, so it would be caviar and shrimp, produced by the best chief that Marny could scrape up, and she was a cousin!Ruby was 28 years old, and a single mother of 3, her brood would school with Marny's grandchildren, and they would be watched over by her best friend Caraco.
MUSK WANTS ONE MILLION HUMANS ON MARS TO SUSTAIN A COLONY. 1/4: For the Love of Mars: A Human History of the Red Planet Hardcover – May 18, 2023 by Matthew Shindell (Author) https://www.amazon.com/Love-Mars-Human-History-Planet/dp/0226821897/ref=tmm_hrd_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr= Mars and its secrets have fascinated and mystified humans since ancient times. Captained by an engaging and erudite expert, For the Love of Marsis a captivating voyage through time and space for anyone curious about Curiosity and the red planet. 1965 MARINER 4 FLYBY

“Sh!t happens, wocka wocka!” The panel of peril take a chunk a meat from the salt barrel, a tot of rum from the rum barrel, and a film from the DVD barrel. That film is Muppet Treasure Island (Brian Henson, 1996), and we settle in to watch with this week's special guest Nemonie Craven! Jim Hawkins (Kevin Bishop) has in his possession a certain map. That map leads to a certain island. A treasure island, in fact. Flanked by Gonzo (Dave Goelz) and Rizzo (Steve Whitmere) they embark on the good ship Hispaniola to find this mysterious isle. Captained by the ‘fiery' Kermit the Frog (also Steve Whitmere), will the ship sail true to treasure, or is there villainy afoot? Watch the trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-37gsH0ideE ********PLOT SPOILER ALERT******** Also aboard is Long John Silver (Tim Curry) who befriends young Jim in order to get his mucky mits on the precious map. Will the youngster and his felt friends stay one step ahead of the one-legged ne'er-do-well, or will Jim and the gang be cast into the briny for their troubles? What did the panel think of this week's movie? How can they improve upon the villain's masterplan? And what book does Nemonie think would benefit from the Muppet treatment? When Josh Walker was 13, he had a boots deal; he captained England through the age groups, he was wanted by just about every big club in England as a schoolboy, turned down Chelsea and made his Boro debut when he was 17. But by the age of 24, he was seriously considering retirement and a surprise move to India "saved his life". Here, with remarkable honesty, Walker tells Dominic Shaw the story of his Boro career. Josh now runs Foot Forward, a coaching school based in Edinburgh. Being hammered by cross town rivals wasn't all though, as some inspired FPL decisions went terribly wrong. The boys also discuss the North London derby and Emerson Royal's red card, Conor Gallagher becoming a villain at Palace where he only last season was a hero, and a new fad of announcing players with apex predators. Locked On Sun Devils - Daily Podcast On Arizona State Sun Devils Football & Basketball
After breaking down the offensive side of the football and its potential week one starting 11, we turn to the defensive side and predict the week one starting 11 for Arizona State Sun Devils football. It all starts up front with a deep and talented defensive line. Captained by Michael Matus, the group has many veteran players like Travez Moore, Anthonie Cooper, Tautala Psesefea Jr., and Nesta Jade Silvera manning the trenches with some fun young up-and-comers like B.J. Green, Omarr Norman-Lott, Joe Moore, Gharin Stansbury, and freshman Robby Harrison. Linebackers Merlin Robertson and Kyle Soelle will be in charge of managing the defense entirely but look for guys like Connor Soelle, Caleb McCullough, and Will Shaffer to get some playing time as the potential future at the position. The secondary is practically brand new with newcomers like Ro Torrence, Khoury Bethley, and Chris Edmonds all transferring to the program. Veterans Timarcus Davis and brothers Keon Markham and Kejuan Markham will lead the group with rising star Jordan Clark feeling like a safe bet for the starting nickel cornerback. How will all of these players shake out with their respective roles in 2022? Host Richie Bradshaw gives his best guess on the potential starting 11 defenders on this edition of the Locked On Sun Devils podcast.Today's Episode is brought to you by BetOnline. It was on this date 66 years ago that one of the most popular, most durable, and most iconic situation comedies in television history was born. Taking place mostly in a tiny two room apartment in Brooklyn, The Honeymooners set new standards for television comedy. Captained by the comic genius of Jackie Gleason, the show also featured the versatile Art Carney, Joyce Randolph, and, of course, as Ralph Kramden long-suffering wife Alice, Audrey Meadows. A classically beautiful actress who purposely downplayed her looks for the role, Meadows also proved to be a formidable counterpoint to the Ralph Kramden character.
If you had asked us before this week what the odds were of Elrod, not only contributing a show idea, but a good one that we would use, we would have told you they were about as good as Phil Mickelson's odds to make history this weekend and winning the career Grand Slam at the U.S. Open. For some quick background on our guest in this episode, here’s a quick overview. Lauren Patrizio Xaba is the Executive Director & Founder of SquashDrive, the Squash & Education Alliance program based out of Oakland, California. Lauren has been at the helm since 2009, leading the program to evolve & grow to increase their mission’s impact. We cover a variety of topics from; what it's like navigating their core student-programing during a pandemic, how Lauren positioned herself to start Squash Drive and where the program is looking to break new ground in the sport….literally. After College, Lauren launched her career in Marketing working at companies like Comcast & JP Morgan Chase, before coming to a decision point on what to do next. When these crossroads happen, like many others, Lauren reached back to her roots and decided to explore how squash could make an impact in people’s lives. Today, Lauren and the SquashDrive Board of Directors are embracing innovative thinking to be the first SEA program to have outdoor courts! The outdoor concept started as “wouldn’t this be great to have” but during Covid times, the conversation gave new perspective to the need and urgency. The growth of Outdoor squash has been a topic of discussion for many decades but only a handful of courts currently exist. There is a major growth opportunity in this area but we first need to connect the passion, people & resources for more projects to be successful. Lauren has been on the West Coast for 15 years, but she is originally from Philadelphia and while attending University of Pennsylvania, she Captained the Squash Team. It was a pleasure to have Lauren as a guest and we would love to hear from anyone who is looking to grow squash outdoors! We hope you enjoy the conversation. ***************************************************************We are always looking for new stories and love your help! Squash Radio has already shared some audience stories but we are always looking for more. Reach out to us on any social media app or email squashradio@gmail.com. As always, thanks for listening! Jeremy Staat was born in Bakersfield California to his parents Harold and Janet Staat, on October 10, 1976. He is the middle child of three. As a 1994 graduate of Bakersfield High School in Bakersfield, Calif., Jeremy was a two-sport star, lettering four times in football and three times in track. As a student athlete in football and track and field; Jeremy was honored with many different awards for his efforts. In football, he was a part of a football program starting his freshman year that had a combined winning record of 41-2-1. Jeremy was one of the team captains in 1993 and was a 2-time all-Area/all-South Yosemite League first-team in football. He was named the best lineman in the South Yosemite League, earned Lineman of the Year by the Bakersfield Californian, earned a California All-State Honorable Mention, and was named as the starting left tackle for the Shrine California North/South All-Star football game. As a track and field standout at Bakersfield High School Jeremy earned the most improved player award, and most valuable player in the south Yosemite league and was the South Yosemite League champion in the shot put and discus in 1992-93. Jeremy was the captain of the track team in 1993-94 and was selected as the Athlete of the Year by The Bakersfield Californian in 1993-1994 and earned the California State C.I.F. champion in the discus throw. For his efforts he was named All-Area/All-South Yosemite league, named Jockey Club Athlete of the Month (April 1994), was Bakersfield High School’s Most Valuable Player in track and field in 1994, and was the recipient of the Howard Whalen Track and Field Memorial Scholarship. After graduating high school at the age of 17, Jeremy decided that he wanted to stay local and attend Bakersfield Community College. Once again Jeremy continued his athletic endeavors by competing as a two-sport athlete while attending Bakersfield College. He was a member of 1994 and 1995 Western States Conference football championship team and was also a member of 1994 and 1995 Potato Bowl Champions, with a combined record of 20-2 and was coached by Carl Bowser and Dwayne Damron. As a freshman Jeremy played offensive tackle and tight end and earned honorable mention All-Western States Conference and was recipient of the Matt Poole Award. During the 1995-96 football seasons he was named first-team offense Western States Conference, Honorable Mention All-American by J.C. Grid wire, and earned the Bakersfield College coach’s award. As a track and field competitor for the Bakersfield College Renegades during the 1994- 95, his freshman track season, Jeremy earned the California State Jr. College champion honor in the discus throw, he was named Western States Conference Most Valuable Player, Bakersfield College freshman athlete of the year, and Bakersfield Jockey Club athlete of the month. During Jeremy’s sophomore year at Bakersfield College he was named the Most Outstanding Male Athlete at Bakersfield College in 1995-96 served as a team captain. He also set school records in discus, 182' 4" (which still stands today) and the shot put 58' 1/4," he won the State Championship in both the discus and the shot put, becoming the first male to win two throwing events in one year. His 2nd place finish in the Hammer Throw at this State Meet made him the highest scoring athlete, EVER, at the CCCAA State Track and Field Championships. He also earned all WSC first-team honors in the discus and shot put. Won the hammer, discus, and shot put in the Southern Cal Meet of Champions; becoming the first person to win these three events in the meet's history (which still remains today). He went on to take first-place in the shot put at the National Jr. College All-American Track and Field meet earned Junior All-American status at the U.S.A. Junior National Track and Field championships. He received Cerritos College Event's top field athlete in the 1995-96 track season. He went on to compete unattached at the 1996 Sun Angel Track Classic at Arizona State University, in the shot put and discus throw (took fifth place in the shot put with a toss of 56' 3 ", which would have placed him as a provisional in the NCAA outdoor championships and took fourth in the discus throw with a mark of 180' 1 " that would have placed him as eighth all-time in ASU history. In 1996, Jeremy graduated from Bakersfield Community College in Bakersfield, Calif., with an associate degree in Criminal Justice, and in 2001 was inducted into the Bakersfield College Hall of Fame. With everything that Jeremy had completed up to this point as a student athlete he still wanted to continue with his college education and wanted to compete at the Division I level, and he decided to accept an athletic scholarship to Arizona State University in Tempe, AZ. Jeremy was extremely excited for the opportunity to play for the Arizona State SunDevils. Although he wasn’t able to be a multi-sport athlete, like he was in high school and junior college, he still gave everything he had to the football team, but still wanted to compete in the shot put and discus, but he knew that there was going to be a crossroads at some point in his athletic career and he was going to have to choose between football and track and field, and since he was on a football scholarship he knew that track and field would have to take a back seat. During his time with the SunDevils the football team went 11-0 in 1996 for a 1997 Rose Bowl National Championship appearance where the SunDevils played the Ohio State Buckeyes and came up short in the final minutes of the game. The SunDevils went on to be ranked #4 in the Nation. During Jeremy’s senior year the SunDevils went 9-3 his senior year and won a Bowl bid to play in the Norwest SunBowl in El Paso, Texas in 1997. With the 1997 Sun Bowl Appearance, Jeremy was named the Jimmy Roger Jr's, Most Valuable player Defensive lineman of the game. He went on to earn 2nd team all-Pac 10 honors and was the 1997 Morris Trophy recipient, which was the 1st time in history that a defensive lineman from ASU won that award. The Morris Trophy is the college football award given to the Pac 10's most valuable Offensive and Defensive lineman. Jeremy was also named a 1997, 1st team All American, by the Sporting News as well as 1st Team All-American selection by the Football Writers Association of America. He also earned four “Player of the Game” awards from ASU as a Defensive Lineman. During the 1997 regular season he had 12.5 sacks and 23.0 total tackles-for-loss and earned another 3 sacks and X tackle for losses in the Norwest SunBowl, which gave him the single season sack record for a defensive lineman in ASU history. During his playing time at ASU Jeremy had become good friends with Pat Tillman. Pat Tillman was a standout scholar athlete who was drafted into the National Football League (NFL), played four seasons with the Arizona Cardinals, and thus turned down a $4.6 million-dollar contract to join the Army Rangers and was killed in action in April of 2004. In 1998 Jeremy was drafted in the National Football League in the 2nd round of the draft and was the 41st pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Jeremy played three seasons with the Steelers and found that it wasn’t a good fit and decided to look at other teams within the NFL. In 2001 he signed on with the Seattle Seahawks and was released after the fifth week of training camp and returned home to Scottsdale, AZ., and begun to rethink his professional career. While waiting on another team to pick him up a national tragedy occurred that turned his attention from the NFL to national service, the event that took place was the terrorist attacks that happened on September 11, 2001. After seeing the carnage of the 9/11 attacks upon the World Trade Centers, Jeremy decided that he wanted to join the United States Army. This is when an old friend contacted Jeremy and made him promise to go back into the NFL and earn his fourth season, so that Jeremy would be a vested player with the NFL and earn his retirement from the NFL, that friend was Pat Tillman. In the spring of 2002, Jeremy once again stepped back in to the realm of the NFL and signed on with the Oakland Raiders as an offensive guard and was released in August of 2002, Jeremy would sit out the entire 2002 season and once again would sign with a different NFL team. In 2003, Jeremy signed on with the St. Louis Rams and finally earned his fourth season in the NFL and had qualified for his NFL pension. In 2004, Jeremy decided that after he had earned one retirement from professional athletics he should go and earn a second retirement from the Arena Football League (AFL), so in the spring of 2004 Jeremy signed on with the Los Angeles Avengers and played several games with the Avengers before hearing about the passing of his former teammate and friend Pat Tillman. Jeremy then retired completely from professional athletics and decided to answer the call of serving his country and decided to join the United States Marine Corps. At this point he was willing to risk it all. In 2005, Jeremy decided that it was time for him to fulfill his commitment to his country and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and entered boot camp in December of 2005. Jeremy entered the Marine Corps 10 years older than the average recruit. Jeremy completed his 13-week Marine Corps Boot Camp at Marine Corps Recruiting Depot San Diego (MCRD). He graduated on the same Parade Ground as did his grandfather, Herman Francis Staat, in 1941. He was then stationed with 1/3 Bravo Company of Kaneohe Bay, HI, as an Infantry Machine gunner (0331). In 2007, the 1/3 Battalion was deployed, and Jeremy found himself assigned to Haditha, Iraq for a nine-month deployment. After returning from deployment in Haditha, Iraq; Jeremy had some medical issues that needed to be addressed and was never returned to his infantry unit. In his final years with the Marine Corps Jeremy had been giving advice to Marines that were being discharged and encouraged them to get their education but realizing that he himself hadn’t finished his bachelor’s degree. Jeremy decided to return to school during his final year in the Marine Corps and earned his bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University in liberal studies. (I can’t Praise the Arizona State University staff and its’ President high enough for their efforts to make this happen) Jeremy was discharged from Marine Corps in August of 2009. After being discharged from the Marine Corps Jeremy moved back home to Bakersfield, CA and married his fiancéé Janelle Hamilton; he began to work with local charities within the community and wanted to continue to serve and to help others. In 2010, Jeremy joined up with many local and national Veterans Organizations like: The Veteran Tickets foundation, Kern County Honor Flight, Vision 2 Victory, and Kern Vets, “Wall of Valor,” and begun to do multiple speaking engagements to help bring awareness to the different non-profits that he was helping out. In 2011 Jeremy decided to start his own foundation that focused on bringing a Veteran speaking board into the educational environment, to inspire and motivate students to do their best. After speaking to more than 150 plus schools in Kern County, California and Arizona; Jeremy then decided that it was time to take his message nationwide. In the winter of 2012, Jeremy and his team conducted a 3,468-mile cross country bicycle ride that, visited 78 cities in 16 states, focused on bring awareness to the epidemic of veteran suicide and childhood obesity. The Wall to Wall Cross Country Bicycle Ride stated at the Wall of Valor in Bakersfield, California and traveled east across the country and ended at the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. After returning home from his cross-country endeavor Jeremy was welcomed home by the birth of his first child, a boy, that he and his wife named Tristen. After the birth of Tristen, Jeremy continued to work with his foundation and continued to deliver hundreds more motivational and inspirational speeches to schools and businesses. For his efforts, he was named the 2011 Military Order of the Purple Heart Veteran of the Year, the 2013 All Sports United Humanitarian Recipient, 2013 Beautiful Bakersfield Humanitarian of the Year Recipient, and was a 2014 Bakersfield High School Football Hall of Fame Inductee. In 2013, Jeremy decided that he wanted to have a more stable lifestyle and decided to progress into the educational field and desired to start a trade school focusing on welding. Jeremy enrolled in classes at Bakersfield College to earn his welding degree and welding certifications; along the way, decided to apply for a job at Bakersfield College and in 2013 he began teaching full time as a welding instructor at Bakersfield College. In 2015, Jeremy and his wife welcomed their second son, Gavin. Jeremy then decided it was a must that he continued his education and began to pursue his graduate degrees. In 2016, he earned his master’s degree in educational leadership from Liberty University, and then decided that he needed to earn his Educational Specialist Degree (Ed.S.) from Liberty University as well. He is currently pursuing his Doctorate in Education (Ed.D.) degree. He plans on completing his Ed.D in the summer of 2020. In the spring of 2020, Jeremy will be inducted into the Museum of the Marine Corps Sports Hall of Fame wing that is to be open in the spring of 2020. Everything Football Fantasy Podcast Episode 6: We talk; The international break was long, and some of us forgot to update our teams... This was a week where who you made captain mattered, a stumble out of the blocks for some and business as usual for others. We'll review the predictions and test our luck looking forward. Is this a changing of the tide?? Let's find out!
Captain Beaux of the F/V Collier Brothers joins us today to tell us about his pride in the legacy of the fishing Industry, 4th generation and looking for his bride to be, to create the 5th. Get in line ladies. Seriously guys, he almost cared more about telling his family's history than his own, says a lot about the pride. Speaking from his earliest memories that involved jello and bleeding cod to the fist time he Captained his Family's vessel. Please listen in, like and subscribe.
For today’s episode of Greatest Games, in association with The Blizzard, we’re joined by another member of the Football Ramble Daily parish: Andy Brassell! He’s here to discuss the 1971 European Cup final, where Rinus Michels’ imperious Ajax side took on Ferenc Puskás’ Panathinaikos.Ferenc Puskás’ return to Wembley - eighteen years after his miraculous display in Hungary’s 6-3 hiding of England - was most significant achievement in his coaching career. He led an unfancied but hugely talented Panathinaikos side past Everton and Red Star Belgrade in the latter stages of the competition to the final, against one of the most significant teams in football history. Captained by Velibor Vasović and featuring a Johan Cruyff at the peak of his powers, this era-defining Ajax side went on to enjoy huge success with their Total Football philosophy, and this final may well have been the sliding doors moment at the beginning of it all.We discuss the match itself, the political landscape surrounding Panathinaikos at the time and this pivotal moment in Dutch football history, which Jonathan sums up via a splendid gardening metaphor! For more stories from the annals of football history, visit www.theblizzard.co.uk to explore their archives that contain over 700 articles of stories just like this one!Fancy getting in touch? Annika is the greatest female golfer of our generation, and often regarded as the best of all-time. During her 15 year, Hall-of-Fame career, she rewrote the LPGA and Ladies European Tour record books, won countless awards, and changed the way women's golf was played, viewed and covered. She amassed 89 worldwide victories, including 72 on the LPGA and 10 Major Championships. Annika holds a record number of Rolex Player of the Year awards (eight) and Vare Trophies for the lowest scoring average in a season (six). As the only female to break 60 in an official event, she has been nicknamed “Ms. 59.” Perhaps most notably, Annika received worldwide media attention when she became the first woman to play in a PGA TOUR event since 1945, joining the men at the 2003 Colonial Invitational in Fort Worth, Texas. Annika was the first female to cross the $20 million mark for LPGA career earnings. Her $22 million-plus still tops the All Time Money List despite not competing since the 2008 season. Annika was the recipient of the Patty Berg award in 2003 for her contributions to women's golf. She was the Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year from 2003-2005, and the Golf Writers Association of America Female Athlete of the Year in 1995, 1997 and from 2000-2005. She has represented Europe as a player in eight Solheim Cups, as a vice-captain three times and Captained the European team in 2017. Annika stepped away from professional golf after the 2008 season to focus on her family and the ANNIKA brand of businesses. The ANNIKA Collection of high-end women's golf apparel embodies the spirit of Annika. It combines cutting-edge technology with ingenious details for stylish performance pieces perfect for enjoying a beautiful day on the greens. Annika also appears at times as an Analyst for NBC Golf's broadcast of LPGA Major Championships.
The FantasyXVDraft Podcast - Episode 4. This week we essentially abandoned the Mud Team of the Week (may it & Rob Simmons rest in peace) but kept with the initial dinner structure of our podcast formed as we were eating dinner during the first recording... Entree - Fantasy Super Rugby Round 5 in Review Main Course - Fantasy Super Rugby Round 6 - expectations and what to look out for? Desert - We talk about how teams have decided to take off a winger when they need to replace a front rower due to a yellow card instead of typically playing down a flanker and what this means for fantasy rugby. For desert we are going to try offer a new fantasy rugby insight each week as food for thought. Mud Team of the Week: As always Captained by Rob Simmons and this week the VC was Allan Alaalatoa from the Brumbies on -5 points.
Something a little different this week. Black Mirror gives us an episode that promises some Trek vibes. The Federation ship USS Callister, Captained by Robert Daly and crewed by the true withholders of his totally deserved recognition, respect, and admiration, boldly goes where no man has gone before. Check out the soundtrack for this episode. "Space Fleet" has a good Star Trek The Original Series vibe and "USS Callister: The Next Adventures" is pretty killer. Find it wherever you'd generally buy/stream soundtracks!
Subscribe to the Slow Boat Sailing podcast for free on iTunes and Stitcher! The Slow Boat was struck by a whale 1,700 nautical miles from its next port and 1,800 nautical miles from its last port of call. The host Linus Wilson tells the tale. He also interviews the creators of Sailing Baby Blue. Check out their YouTube channel and blog! They sailed from Maine to the Bahamas to the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Vigin Islands, the BVI, Martinique, St. Martin, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Grenada. They did it in just two years in a 33 foot boat built in 1969. You have got to check out this inspiring story of cruising on a budget early in life! Now they are building a tiny house and exploring the U.S.A. Find out why the Slow Boat sailed 3,500 nautical miles across the south eastern Pacific to the paradise of Hiva Oa, in the Marquesis this past December. When we hit $80 per round the world vlog episode or podcast episode, we will give away up to 2 weeks in a private berth for two to one of our Patrons. Patrons will be randomly selected based on their long-term support on www.Patreon.com/slowboatsailing. This is several thousand dollar value. Captained charters of similarly sized monohulls usually exceed $400 per day. Thus, this reward is over a $5,000 value. The timing of that berth depends on the schedules of the winner and Captain Linus Wilson. The Slow Boat is Hiva Oa in the Marquesas. Linus Wilson will be cruising there in May to July 2017. Hopefully, a patron and possibly his or her significant other can join the boat as crew. Check out the YouTube channel of our ON THE AIS segement guest Sailorama. They are making sweet sailing videos in California. Check out their blog too! We gave away $1,500 worth of free books when we hit our last Patreon goal of $20 per episode. That's right $20 gave $1,500 worth of books to sailors around the world! Pledging on Patreon is more than a good deed it is a great value and a chance to be on a two-week cruise is just one of the awesome rewards of pledging such as free audiobooks, podcast bonus episodes, and associate producer credits in the videos. Podcasts must pay hosting fees. We have incurred high internet access fees in foreign countries to put out a regular podcast and to upload videos. For every hour of podcast or minute of video many hours of work must go into them to produce them. We only produce highly edited podcasts and videos because we believe our listeners and viewers time is so valuable. The vlog is also a video cruising guide of the places we visit focused on the seamanship necessary to visit the exotic foreign ports that we visit. The vlogs recount the adventures of the Slow Boat crew. The host of the podcast and the captain of the Slow Boat is Linus Wilson who holds a “six pack” captain’s licenses issued by the United States Coast Guard. You can be a USCG certified captain too with the help of my audio album preparing you for the exam: Navigation Rules: International and Inland (Abridged), Study Guide for USCG Captains’ and Merchant Mariner Exam on CD Baby. It is the least expensive study course for the toughest exam on the USCG captain’s exam that I know of at $9.99. The “Slow Boat” is an Island Packet 31′. There are 12 episodes planned for season 1 on YouTube. New vlogs are released at 5 PM New York City time on the first Thursday of the month. Hopefully, we will have the support to film many more seasons of our round the world voyage. Season 1 goes from New Orleans, to Florida, to Cuba, stops at Providencia, though the Panama Canal, and across the equator into the South Pacific. Season 2 will feature the trip to and cruising in the most beautiful and remote islands in the world, the Marquesas. If you win the Patreon crew drawing, you could be a star in season 2. Subscribe to the Slow Boat Sailing podcast for free on iTunes and Stitcher! Native Alaskans Erik and Meagan bought a boat in the San Fransisco Bay area and sailed it down the often unforgiving California coast to the warm waters of Mexico. It may be a surprise to the followers of their blockbuster, YouTube channel Resolute Sets Sail, what they did next. Instead of turning west to the islands of the south Pacific as is more popular or heading through the Panama canal towards the Caribbean, Erik and Meagen went on some epic month long offshore passages to Hawaii and Alaska. Learn about their problems importing their dog into Hawaii. (I could not believe it! U.S. Citizens have to jump through hoops to take their dog to Hawaii.) Learn about the travels of these low-budget adventurers under sail in their Cascade 36. They are super cool, and they make great videos! Before we get into an interview we have an audio sample of my Navigation Rules: International and Inland (Abridged), Study Guide for USCG Captains' and Merchant Mariner Exam on CD Baby. It is the least expensive study course for the toughest exam on the USCG captain's exam that I know of at $9.99. I edited this interview during my 27-day passage at sea from Ecuador to French Polynesia, which was hard because we had limited electricity, and I need to buy a newer faster computer to edit podcasts and video. After the Slow Boat was hit by a whale half-way through the 3,500 nm trip, I got much busier with managing downwind sails, autopilot, and engine bleeding problems. I'll talk about that trip in the next episode. This episode is being uploaded in Tahiti, which has MUCH faster internet than Hiva Oa in the Marquesas. I was only in Hiva Oa for less than a week before having to come back home for work. I hope to release episode 8 of the Slow Boat Sailing YouTube channel's round the world vlog before the next podcast. If you are a YouTube subscriber, send me a private message on Facebook or Twitter with your USA address by Wednesday, January 11, 2017, to be in a drawing for the first ever printed copy of Slow Boat to Cuba. This is a one of a kind collectors edition of the Amazon sailing eBook bestseller on its first day on sale. I'll show the results of the drawing in episode 8 of Slow Boat Sailing's vlog series. We will be running contest where our most loyal Patreon supporters can become part of our crew literally as we explore the paradise islands of the South Pacific. On the 3rd of December 1940 the German Auxiliary Cruiser Kormoran slipped out of Gotenhafen. She was the largest of the new wave of Merchant Raiders, which had proved so successful in the first world war. Captained by Theodor Detmers, at just 38 he was the youngest of the Auxiliary cruiser captains. In his own opinion too young. Officially he didn't even hold high enough rank to captain such a ship. But over the next year they successfully sank 11 enemy merchantman and sparred with the Destroyer HMAS Sydney, a David and Goliath encounter... An encounter in which they triumphed. Traditional old time stringband The Ozark Highballers perform live at the Ozark Folk Center in Mountain View, Arkansas. Also, interviews with the Highballers, a performance from the acoustic trio Backwoods Arkansas, Brooks Blevins: “Where are the Ozarks?,” and Mark Jones' "Vault" segment features Percy Copeland. Ozark Highballers are one of the most authentic “old school” bands today. And by “old school” we mean turn of the 20th century times. Captained by fiddler Roy Pilgrim, the 4 piece band (fiddle, banjo, harmonica, and guitar) has a sound straight out of a Ken Burns documentary sound track. Close your eyes and you’ll be transported to a time when music seemed simpler, yet the skill and precision to play it, much more complex. Backwoods Arkansas is comprised of Mountain View, AR musicians Don “Pappy” Melon, Billy Wayne Martin and Gresham McMillon, all of whom are regular performers at the Ozark Folk Center State Park. Their performance features traditional tunes of the region and of course, traditional jokes and humor. Brooks Blevins provides a native’s view of the people, music, and colorful events that shape the Ozark region. The author and historian answers the tricky question “Where are the Ozarks?” Mark Jones' “From the Vault” segment features a recording of famed Ozark harmonica player Percy Copeland performing the traditional song “Turkey in the Straw,” from the Ozark Folk Center State Park archives.
