Welcome true believers to X-Men Horoscopes where each week our host Lodro Rinzler is in conversation with a special guest to discuss the X-Men issue that aligns with a significant month and year from their life and what that issue reveals about their future. Novelist and comic book writer Alex Segura joins our host for a romp where the original five X-Men from the past time travel to the present from the past and the future X-Men from the future are also in the present and they want the past X-Men to go back to the past. Confused yet? Well strap in friend do we take you for a ride this week as we study X-Men 12 (from September, 2013). Also in this episode: what if it's a fireman calendar but it's just Magneto for each month Cyclops always puts Magik on his teams because he HATES getting his jets shot out of the sky and it happens ALL THE TIME Eva Bell is NOT an X-Man from the future the Zen koan of Xorn is Magneto is Xorn one of the best twists in comic history Angel exists in this comic but literally everyone forgot he was there What does any of this mean for Alex's marriage? Tune in to find out! Alex Segura is the bestselling and award-winning author of Secret Identity, which The New York Times called “wittily original” and named an Editor's Choice. NPR described the novel as “masterful,” and it received starred reviews from Publishers Weekly, Kirkus, and Booklist. Secret Identity was also listed as one of the Best Mysteries of the Year by NPR, Kirkus, Booklist, the South Florida Sun Sentinel and more, and was nominated for the Anthony Award for Best Hardcover, the Lefty and Barry Awards for Best Novel, the Macavity Award for Best Mystery Novel, and won the LA Times Book Prize in the Mystery/Thriller category. His next novel, the YA Spider-Verse adventure Araña/Spider-Man 2099: Dark Tomorrow is out now from Disney Books/Marvel Press. Marvel fans will know his voluminous work on Star Wars comics and the wildly acclaimed by me Spider Society series. You can find more of Alex on his Substack or on social media at Instagram, Blue Sky or Threads. Returning to my Lesser Known X-Men feature (affectionately dubbed the “Why-Men”), we break from chronological joining to cover twins who were recruited at different times, but are so close that they may as be one character, as well as a mutant mentioned briefly in the “New Warriors Vol 4” episode of the show.
From their debut in 2001, Grant Morrison took the X-Men on a mind-bending journey, redefining everything from mutant culture to the very essence of the characters themselves. We'll discuss the introduction of characters like Xorn and Fantomex, the evolution of Jean Grey and Cyclops, and the philosophical underpinnings that made this run so groundbreaking. Plus, we'll delve into how Morrison's unique storytelling style reshaped the superhero landscape and left a lasting impact on X-Men lore in PART ONE of a TWO-PART series covering the whole run! On the newest episode of Comics and Chronic the guys discuss Grant Morrison's New X-Men (Issues 144-126 + the 2001 annual). But first how did Cody almost die this week? What are the guys drinking? What new comics did Jake grab? Is he on a Bendis kick? Is Amazon and Jeff Bezos holding back Rodney Barnes? In what way is Jake a detective? What do we think of Frank Quitely's art? In what way does this comic set the stage for the next 20 years of X-Men? How does Grant Morrison raise the stakes for the X-Men? Why are the mutants in this comic so ugly? Was Emma Frost always able to turn into a diamond? Who is Cassandra Nova? What silly thing happens to Cassandra that she makes her hate Charles Xavier? How many mg can we handle? What creative ways does Morrison use mutant powers? Do the mutants look good? Who do we prefer Jean Grey or Emma Frost? Do Wolverine and Cyclops fuck down the road? What X-men would we want to be? What X-men are we most like? Would Jake make a good Gladiator? What is Xorn's real identity? Do we like that X-men kill? What is Cody's bold (?) comic book take? Is Catwoman Batman's greatest villain? Who is Batman's greatest villain? Who is our favorite comic book villain? Are republicans X-men's greatest villain? Is Magneto the greatest comic book villain? Who is Fantomex? What do we think of The Phoenix? Should we forget X3: The Last Stand? What humans are the main X-men villains? How does Cassandra kill Trask? Is this one of the most influential X-men comics? Find out the answers to this and more in this week's episode of Comic's and Chronic! We welcome you to a New Year with a new Spotlight! Chris Eberle has crafted an absolute gem of an episode, and Shane and Murd gather in studio to bask in its glow, while Ian calls remote from vacation in Florida. This goes through the entire character history of one Max Eisenhardt, alias Erik Lehnsherr...but the nom de plume we are most familiar with is that of Magneto, Master of Magnetism! From his beginnings in the 1960s as X-Men enemy du jour to Claremont's crafting and rebuilding of his personality in the 1970s, that time he was a baby for a while, all the way to the launch of Volume 2 of X-Men and Magneto's return to villainy to the creation of Onslaught, ruling Genosha, that whole Xorn thing, and so much more, we do our best to give you a full breakdown of one of Marvel's most prevalent presences both in comics and related media. And yes, we even mention Joseph. Fair is fair, after all. (2:50:35)

Welcome to the place where I get to let my geek flag fly and talk about all things geek. Basically a fuzzy guide to life, the universe, and everything but mostly geek stuff. This is where I look into the world of geekdom and some geek news, comics, The Simpsons, Star Wars, and whatever randomness finds its way onto the recording. A few episodes ago (Level 197), Danny the Deuce and Blue joined me to discuss representation and diversity in superheroes. Well, talking about 21 heroes wasn’t enough so we’re back with 20 more discussing comics as an important medium of representation. We cover a lot of the heroes that matter so much, especially in today’s divided world. Heroes mentioned include Bishop, Isaiah & Elijah Bradley, Heimdall (Idris Elba), Amadeus Cho, Manhattan Guardian, Gangbuster, Jimmy Olson (Supergirl DCW), Blue Beetle (Jaime Reyes), Xorn, The Question (Renee Montoya), Deathlok, Freddy Freeman, Cassandra Cain, Oracle (Barbara Gordon), Silhouette, Misty Knight & Colleen Wing, Captain America Sam Wilson, Mister Terrific, and more! Enter the Diversiverse with us and we hope you enjoy this as much as we did talking about it. Congrats on completing Level 202 of the podcast! Stay safe, wash your hands, and good luck out there. This level of the podcast is regular guest and collaborator Blue joining me to keep the summer of guests going and since I had thoughts after viewing Dark Phoenix, I figured why not talk all about the X-Men. For over an hour we chat characters (as in Xorn, Nightcrawler, Mystique), the X-Men Animated Series, the ten X-Men films (including my spoiler thoughts on Dark Phoenix), X-Men comic runs, and a couple X-Men shows. With empty pockets and a potential lead on how to fill them our heroes catch a lead from a nearby general goods and trading post that some farmers just up the road have been have a problem, will pay to have it taken care of, AND that it sounds JUST like the Xorn they just defeated. A little spending money never hurt anyone...

In this episode we take a look at John Byrne's The Man of Steel mini-series. This mini-series, was DC Comics' effort to reboot and simplify Superman after the Multiverse condensing story, Crisis on Infinite Earths, and stood as the cornerstone of Superman stories for almost 20 years. Also, this week's "Better Know an X-Man" features Xorn 2.
In this episode, we have a follow-up to how terrible Anthony and J.R.'s brackets have turned out, we discuss writers being duly credited for the stories they write (2:09), this week's "Better Know an X-Man" features Husk (7:32), Jacob gives us a lesson on the convoluted history of Xorn (12:47), and we wrap out by talking about some video games we have been playing (43:28).
This week, we take an in-depth look at Grant Morrison's classic (and divisive) "NEW X-MEN" run. From 2001 to 2004, the Scottish writer completely upturned the idea of what an X-Men comic could be, in the most shocking reinvention of the franchise fans had ever seen yet. Less a traditional superhero story and more a warped, dark sci-fi epic, Morrison's time on "NEW X-MEN" continues to be one of the most discussed and analyzed periods in X-Men history...so now it's our turn to take a stab. The dissolution of Scott and Jean's relationship, the emergence of Emma Frost as a central X-Men character, the confusing tale of Xorn, and the introductions of Cassandra Nova, John Sublime, Quentin Quire, Fantomex and more - it' all here, as we take a look at the entire run, summarizing each story arc, and sharing some of our favorite characters, ideas and revelations. And don't worry...we promise this episode is a lot easier to follow and understand than a typical Grant Morrison story. Our favorite pro sniper, Robynne (@starfoxidiot), joins us to talk about boys on this very special Feliz Yaoidad episode of Hogcast: Speedy Delivery. (The audio is a bit rougher than usual because Russ had to record it over Skype, but the content is some premium stuff. Trust.) Notes:I hate Guro Alan, who’s your Nicolas Cage boy? Snuffits face is a gun and cute, Otto Rocket Asphyxiation, Dennis the Menace, Drinking some delicious Tir Na eggNog, Shadow’s hum talking and Sonic’s Chuckle Addiction, Russ puts his ASMR skills to good use, our podcast is now called Fluffer Smutters, My Anime Club Member OC, He’ll throw you against a wall and leave your bones in the wrong place, No Boys Deep Web, we talk about Xorn. Corrections: Russ was thinking of Muji T-Shirt Cubes, the fanfic’s description of hedgehog genitals was upsettingly upsetting. Also Alan meant to say Kick instead of Mutant Growth Hormone.
Karl Teaches Kontinuity is dead! Long live Crosstawk Comics! After recording Episode 2, Gus seemed like a perfect fit to the permanent co-host, and if it's a two-man project, it wouldn't be fair to just have Karl's name in the title. So we thought it over, and decided that going forward, our adventures in continuity would be flown under the banner of Crosstawk Comics. Now, on to the actual subject at hand. We're going to be putting away the conversation on The Ages for the time being to explore the Life and Times of Jean Grey, the ever-dying (and re-appearing) X-Woman. This is the first part of a two-parter, but we do manage to track the major plot points up to the end of the Dark Phoenix Saga. Be sure to come back for Part 2 when we get into Madelyne Pryor, a mysterious coccoon and of course, XORN! As always, send all of your questions and concerns to crosstawk@gmail.com, follow us on Twitter (@crosstawk) and rate/review us on iTunes. And keep an eye on Crosstawk.com as we'll be adding some great new text features soon, not to mention a brand new Thoroughly Manly Musical. Having said that, come back next week for the debut of a brand new series from the mind of Mike Sklens: Hardcore Nerdography!
