Food Travel USA with Elizabeth DoughertyAlbum: The TRUTH About Food and Travel 060826 Original Broadcast Date: 06/08/26 It was a packed week in food news and Elizabeth had plenty to say about all of it. WK Kellogg is becoming one of the first major food companies to completely overhaul its packaging around nutrition transparency with a new system called SPOONS, which stands for Simple ingredients, Protein, Outstanding fiber, Other nutritious foods, Nutrients, and Single digit sugars. It rolls out this month on Raisin Bran, Frosted Mini Wheats, Corn Flakes, and Rice Krispies. Kellogg invented the nutrition label. Now they're trying to reinvent what it means. Meanwhile Doritos just launched a Garlic Parm flavor nationwide, and if you were hoping two years of MAHA pressure and a $50 billion market cap hit had taught Frito Lay anything, the ingredient list will disappoint you. Maltodextrin, yeast extract, potassium chloride, citric acid. New flavor. Same playbook. Walmart expanded its 30 minute grocery delivery to 33 markets, now reaching 60 percent of the U.S. population. Chick fil A is shrinking its chicken sandwich with no comment and no apology. Upcycled ingredients, food byproducts that used to be called garbage, are now certified and showing up at Whole Foods, Target, and Costco. And a Virginia woman is suing Outback Steakhouse for $1.5 million after slipping face first on mashed potatoes on the way to the restroom. Virginia is a contributory negligence state. Her attorney has a long road ahead. Elizabeth connects the dots on all of it. FOOD TRAVEL USA FAST FACTS About the Show Using the chassis of a food and travel show, Elizabeth Dougherty has carved out her own lane in Talk Radio, covering the contamination of the food supply and the travel restrictions placed upon us by an overreaching government. The show also covers data protection, self-sufficiency, and homesteading-related topics to help protect us from this evil, corrupt system. With Elizabeth as the host, the show has a very different sound from the typical male-oriented talk radio. In combination with terrestrial stations that carry the show, we reach people who don't normally listen to politically-driven talk radio. In addition to the LIVE FEED of the show on Saturday afternoons from 5pm–7pm (Eastern) / 2pm–4pm (Pacific), we produce and distribute a dozen podcast segments each week. Amazon : https://reurl.cc/g8lprR Readmoo :https://reurl.cc/jqpYmm Kobo : https://reurl.cc/GdDLgW Google : https://reurl.cc/9ZyLyn -- Hosting provided by SoundOn
The supplement industry is pushing back. In May 2026, a group of long-tenured ashwagandha producers and regulatory experts launched the Ashwagandha Standards Alliance (ASA), a new coalition dedicated to countering misinformation about ashwagandha leaf safety, defending GMP standards, and responding to what many in the industry see as scientifically unsupported regulatory actions: India’s April 2026 FSSAI/AYUSH leaf advisory and Denmark’s earlier ban. In Episode #218 of the PricePlow Podcast, Mike and Ben sit down with Blake Ebersole, founding member of the ASA and president of NaturPro Scientific, a B2B quality and regulatory consulting firm. Blake unpacks and rejects the “root good, leaf bad” narrative, explains why in vitro cancer cell studies are being misused to target ashwagandha leaf, and details how lab shopping and supply chain fragmentation quietly erode quality across the botanical category. This episode pairs directly with our companion article on India’s ashwagandha leaf advisory. Together they cover both the regulatory deep-dive and the industry coalition response.

Maltodextrin and other industrial starches, such as cornstarch and modified food starch, are used as fillers to add bulk to a product. Dr. Christian Gonzalez breaks down Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey—the protein powder stuffed in gym bags across the country—ingredient by ingredient, cross-referencing each one with the best available human studies. The problem: NSF certification sounds reassuring, but it doesn't give you access to actual test results. No heavy metal data. No pesticide levels. Eure Anastasia

Are multivitamins bad for you? How could that be? In this video, I'll share the truth about the multivitamin scam. Find out about the vitamins you should never take, supplements that don't work, and the harmful ingredients in your supplements. 0:00 Introduction: Multivitamins truth0:19 Harmful ingredients in supplements 1:45 Synthetic vs. natural vitamins 3:38 Do multivitamins really work?9:32 Natural vitamins and minerals11:17 Fake vitamins exposed! Many multivitamins are made with the cheapest, synthetic ingredients which could be doing more harm than good. The first ingredient in many multivitamins is often calcium carbonate, which is limestone! The first ingredient usually makes up the majority of the product. Magnesium oxide, another common ingredient, is very cheap and has the lowest absorption rate compared to other forms of magnesium. The term “natural” isn't regulated, so ingredients derived from sources such as petroleum and coal tar can be labeled as natural. In nature, vitamins don't exist alone; they are combined with other nutrients and cofactors, which are often missing when you take synthetic vitamins. Biochemistry can not work without cofactors. Although there are nutrients that are difficult to obtain in sufficient amounts from food, that doesn't mean they should be replaced with synthetic multivitamins.Maltodextrin is commonly used as a filler in vitamins and minerals. It's a highly refined industrial starch, classified as a complex carbohydrate, and spikes blood sugar more than sugar. Ascorbic acid is a synthetic part of the vitamin C complex. Approximately 90% is made in China from GMO corn and sulfuric acid. Many people have a genetic issue converting cyanocobalamin, a synthetic form of B12, and folic acid, a synthetic form of B9, into their active forms. This can cause negative side effects in 40% of the population.Almost all of the popular multivitamins are owned by Big Pharma, Big Food, Big Chemical, or large investment groups. For example, Centrum Silver is owned by Pfizer, and One a Day is owned by Bayer. Nature Made is owned by the same company that sells Abilify!Dr. Eric Berg DC Bio:Dr. Berg, age 60, is a chiropractor who specializes in Healthy Ketosis & Intermittent Fasting. Story at-a-glance Ice cream that resists melting in summer heat is often packed with emulsifiers like polysorbate 80, which weaken your gut lining and trigger chronic inflammation throughout your body Aside from ice cream, emulsifiers are also found in over 12,000 processed foods, including organic brands. Most of these chemicals were never tested for long-term safety on gut health Maltodextrin, an emulsifier found in many frozen desserts, destroys mucus-producing gut cells, leaving your intestines vulnerable to bacteria and inflammation, even without harmful microbes present Research shows emulsifiers interfere with metabolic signaling, raising your risk of insulin resistance, weight gain, and inflammation Children are especially at risk, since their microbiomes are still developing. Summer treats like ice cream and slushies silently prime them for lifelong health problems

In today's episode, we're talking about hinderances to fat loss. Most people trying to lose fat focus on big rocks — strength training, hydration, macro counting, 10k steps per day, cutting sugar. All of which can have great value. But what if what's keeping you stuck in your current body composition, isn't a lack of discipline… but the little things you don't know you're eating? Maltodextrin — is a common additive in dressings, sauces, spice blends, and even “health” products like LMNT and electrolyte powders — has a glycemic index of 85–105. That's higher than table sugar. In minute doses this is generally not an issue, but at the amounts found in these powders and taco spices this can really add up. ➡️Healthy Meals Made Easy PDF https://go.drwholeness.com/healthy-meals-made-easy -------- Connect with Dr. Matt online:

Vitamin D toxicity is very rare and typically involves too much calcium in the blood. Even Dr. Bruce Hollis, a pioneer in vitamin D research, has never personally seen a case of vitamin D toxicity. To develop vitamin D toxicity, you'd have to consume hundreds of thousands of IUs of vitamin D3 for months! Vitamin D needs magnesium to function properly in the body. The more vitamin D you take, the more magnesium you need. Magnesium prevents vascular calcification, the main problem associated with vitamin D toxicity. The vitamin D receptor is dependent on zinc. Like magnesium, your zinc requirements increase when you take vitamin D. Zinc deficiency symptoms include an altered sense of taste and smell, acne, flaky skin, and lowered testosterone. When you increase your vitamin D intake, you'll need more vitamin K2. Vitamin K2 helps prevent the buildup of calcium and also helps to drive calcium into the bones and teeth. The active form of vitamin A, called retinol, is also an important cofactor for vitamin D. Vitamin A receptors sometimes bind with vitamin D receptors as a complex. Vitamin A also helps keep calcium out of your arteries. Always take vitamin D3, not D2. Vitamin D2 is less potent and is typically synthetic. Avoid synthetic vitamin D3 supplements and supplements with fillers such as maltodextrin or glucose syrup. Leafy greens, chocolate, certain nuts, and pumpkin seeds are the best food sources of magnesium. When choosing a supplement, look for magnesium glycinate. The best food sources of zinc are red meat and shellfish. If you take a zinc supplement, consume it in a blend with other trace minerals. For every 10,000 IUs of vitamin D3 that you take, you'll need 100 mcg of vitamin K2. MK7 is the best form. Vitamin K2 is found in high-quality grass-fed butter, kimchi, sauerkraut, grass-fed beef, and eggs. It's best to get your vitamin A from food. Egg yolks, liver, and cod liver oil are the best sources. DATA: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/3627603/ https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles... Maltodextrin, vegetabilsk gummi, modificeret stivelse, hydrolyseret protein. Today, we're going to talk about the hidden dangers of starch. Some ultra-processed foods may not have sugar but are packed with synthetic starch. Many synthetic starches can potentially affect your blood sugar even more than sugar. When you repeatedly raise your blood sugar, you will eventually develop insulin resistance. Over time, your fat cells can no longer store fat, and energy is stored inside the organs or as visceral fat. Ultimately, you lose the ability to control your blood sugar levels and can develop diabetes. Starches are hidden sugar! Even products labeled sugar-free contain starches that can cause more damage than sugar. Synthetic starches do not contain protein, fat, or fiber, all of which help buffer blood sugar spikes. Consuming starches can also deplete your body of essential nutrients such as vitamin D. This can cause significant inflammation, decreasing vitamin D's ability to work in your cells. Vitamin B1 is vital for your body to burn carbohydrates. Synthetic starches deplete vitamin B1 and zinc, leaving you tired and unable to create energy in the body. Synthetic starches feed the pathogenic microbes in your gut. They can also contribute to small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO). Modified corn starch is added to food as a thickener or carrier of flavors. Maltodextrin is typically added to food as a filler. It's also sometimes added to protein powders as an energy source. This is incredibly damaging to your cells and mitochondria.
Did you know that the “rounding rule” allows manufacturers to hide ingredients in your food if it's less than 500 mg per serving size? There are also over 200 different words for sugar! These misleading practices could mean you're consuming dangerous ingredients without knowing. Incidental additives are ingredients that have a function that's not related to texture, flavor, or a preservative. If these ingredients are less than 5% of the finished product, they don't have to list it on the label. Maltodextrin is a common incidental ingredient. It's a carbohydrate that acts more like sugar in the body and has a glycemic index of 180 compared to table sugar, which is only 74. Hexane is one of the most dangerous ingredients in food. Its residue is often found in products containing soy protein isolates, which are commonly added to bars, veggie burgers, and plant-based products. Hexane is a chemical solvent used to extract this protein from the soybean. The CDC classifies hexane as a neurotoxin, and the EPA considers it hazardous air pollution. However, no regulatory body measures the amount of hexane in food. Sugar-free products can often spike your blood sugar because of other hidden ingredients. Always check the ingredient list and pay attention to the following products and labels: •No added sugar •Sugar-free products with carbohydrates •Sugar-free gum •Corn syrup solids •Sugar-free, non-dairy creamers Iodine turns blue when combined with starch. Add a drop or two of iodine to a glass of water, and watch products with hidden starch turn blue or purple when you mix them in!

Here are the 7 worst diets for weight loss and your health. 1. Junk food version of the Atkins diet The Atkins diet brand sells shakes and bars full of unhealthy ingredients such as soy protein isolate, soybean oil, artificial flavoring, and polydextrose. 2. Jenny Craig diet This diet consists of pre-made meals and the “anytime bar” that contains soy protein isolate and concentrated milk protein. Jenny Craig pre-made meals contain synthetic starches such as potato flour, cornstarch, modified food starch, and maltodextrin. 3. WeightWatchers This diet is based on portion control. WeightWatchers sells a brand called Smart Ones, which makes chicken pasta that contains wheat flour, wheat gluten, maltodextrin, soy protein isolates, and soybean oil—the same ultra-processed ingredients found in junk food. 4. Nutrisystem diet The Nutrisystem diet claims to be diabetic-friendly but uses the same ingredients, such as polydextrose and maltodextrin. Maltodextrin is 185 on the glycemic index compared to sugar, which is 65. 5. Ideal protein diet The ideal protein diet is not ideal! Wheat protein isolate is just another name for starch, which is a chain of sugars. 6. Optifast This medically supervised diet program consists of three main types of food: shakes, bars, and soups. The first ingredient in their chocolate shake is maltodextrin! 7. Medifast This “scientifically designed” program consists of 6 servings per day. One of their products is called the essential chocolate mint cookie crisp bar. Once again, this bar contains soy protein isolates, sugar, polydextrose, soluble corn fiber, brown rice syrup, milk protein isolates, and rice starch. If you use these ultra-processed ingredients to lose weight, you will destroy your metabolism! These are very poor quality ingredients that do not promote health. They are the prime contributors to diabetes and obesity, yet they're in “diet” foods. To lose weight, consume whole foods and read ingredient lists! Just because a product is labeled “keto-friendly” doesn't mean it's healthy.

Today, I'm going to tell you what not to eat if you want a healthy microbiome. Around 80% of your immune system involves the gut microbiome. Gut bacteria also make vitamins and neurotransmitters. A thin lining of cells acts as a barrier between the inside of the body and the inside of the colon. If food particles leak through this barrier, this is known as a leaky gut, which can cause you to develop food allergies and autoimmune diseases. Bloating, diarrhea, and skin issues all signify an issue with the gut microbiome. Avoid these foods to protect your gut health! 1. Industrial fibers Industrial fibers such as cellulose, soluble corn fiber, tapioca fiber, and resistant dextrin support pathogenic microbes, alter the microbiome, and can eventually create a leaky gut. 2. Emulsifiers Emulsifiers mix substances together to achieve a desired texture. Maltodextrin is an emulsifier that spikes blood sugars more than sugar! Xanthan gum, monoglyceride, and propylene glycol are emulsifiers that should all be avoided. 3. Industrial proteins Gluten in wheat, casein in milk, and soy protein isolates cause gut inflammation, which is why many people have allergies to these ingredients. Soy is high in phytates, which inhibit important enzymes necessary for digestion. 4. Seed oils Avoid industrial seed oils, which can cause inflammation and leaky gut. 5. Refined sugars Refined sugars like high fructose corn syrup and refined starches spike blood sugar levels and create rapid fermentation. These ingredients cause gas, bloating, and increase pathogens. 6. Sugar alcohols Sugar alcohols are often found in keto-friendly foods, but they are not all keto-friendly. Avoid maltitol and opt for erythritol combined with monk fruit or stevia. 7. Artificial sweeteners Artificial sweeteners, such as aspartame and sucralose, are the worst food for your microbiome. They can turn friendly, good bacteria into unfriendly microbes. If you have a problem with your microbiome, take probiotics regularly to increase the good bacteria in your gut. If the problem persists or gets worse, you may have severe gut inflammation. Try the carnivore diet to improve gut health.
In this podcast, we're going to talk about the worst ingredient found in many protein powders: maltodextrin. This dangerous ingredient increases acne, bloating, gut inflammation, mental irritability, anxiety, and insomnia. It's highly addictive because it increases dopamine. Maltodextrin promotes acid in your mouth, which increases cavities, and it spikes blood sugar more than sugar! If you consume it repeatedly, it can cause belly fat, high cholesterol, fatty liver, and other health problems. Maltodextrin is often one of the first ingredients in many protein powder products, which means it makes up most of the product. It's made of inedible dent corn that's ground and treated with chemicals. It's typically heated, pressure-treated, decolorized, and deodorized. After this process, you're left with maltodextrin powder, which can then be used as a filler to add bulk to different products. Consuming maltodextrin powder has no benefit. It's classified as a carbohydrate but acts as a sugar in the body. The glycemic index tells you how much an ingredient will spike your blood sugar. Maltodextrin has a glycemic index between 105 and 185, which is higher than glucose and table sugar! Many protein powders contain 50 grams of whey protein per serving combined with 253 grams of carbohydrates from maltodextrin. Your need for many vitamins and minerals increases when you consume this many carbs. Ultra-processed foods like maltodextrin cause oxidation and inflammation in the body. Maltodextrin also causes significant insulin and blood sugar spikes. It may cause you to wake up groggy and have low blood sugar the day after consuming it. This will cause you to want more, creating a vicious cycle that eventually leads to insulin resistance. To build muscle, you need exercise and protein, not high doses of refined sugar!

In this podcast, we're going to take a look at some of the amazing health benefits you'll experience if you eliminate sugar from your diet for two weeks. The following side effects can occur in as little as two weeks without sugar: •Slimmer face (less round/puffy) •Less puffy eyelids •Reduced belly fat •No more carb cravings •Decreased hunger/more satisfaction after meals •Improved mood •Improved attention and focus (mental clarity) •No more fluid retention •Decreased pain and inflammation •Decreased bloating and abdominal pain •Improved sleep quality •More relaxation/decreased adrenal stress •Improved skin When avoiding sugar, you also need to avoid refined starches, which can be even worse than sugar! Refined starches go through a refining process known as hydrolysis, which breaks the starches down. This process causes a more significant effect on your blood sugar than sugar itself. For example, maltodextrin has a glycemic index between 110 and 136, while sugar and glucose have a glycemic index of 65 and 100, respectively. Maltodextrin is found in countless food products, including certain health food products. If maltodextrin is added to a food product at less than .5 grams per serving size, manufacturers can claim that the product does not contain carbohydrates. If the manufacturer uses a hydrolyzation process, they can also claim that the product contains zero grams of sugar! This means that many people are unknowingly consuming hidden sugars. While dietary sugar consumption is going down, the percentage of ultra-processed food consumption is on the rise. The good news is that there are healthy alternatives that are tasty too! Just be sure to look closely at the labels on the products you buy to avoid consuming excess sugar. DATA: https://www.thelancet.com/journals/la... https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/... Today, we're going to talk about the carbohydrate that's more dangerous than sugar: maltodextrin. Of all the ultra-processed food ingredients, I consider this one the worst. Maltodextrin is GMO, refined, and highly processed. It can lead to belly fat, diabetes, and gut inflammation, yet it's considered safe. Even though maltodextrin is not a sugar and it's not sweet, it behaves like sugar in the body. It's also higher than sugar on the glycemic index. Maltodextrin is an ingredient in many different products, from chips to seasonings, supplements, and infant formulas. It's even in certain drinks like light beer, energy drinks, and sports drinks. Because it's not classified as a sugar, maltodextrin can also be added to sugar-free products even though it behaves like a sugar. Maltodextrin is a filler ingredient, and there are loopholes that companies can use to legally add it to their products. Other names for maltodextrin are dextrin, modified food starch, glucose syrup, corn starch, food starch, and corn syrup. It's crucial to start reading the ingredients in your products to avoid dangerous ingredients like maltodextrin. SUBSCRIBE TO MY NEWSLETTER HERE: https://drbrg.co/4a8SkDS
Let's talk about alternative sweeteners. Trying alternative sweeteners when starting the ketogenic diet can make the transition much easier. Notice I said alternative sweeteners and not artificial sweeteners. While alternative sweeteners aren't completely natural, they are less artificial and less harmful than artificial sweeteners. Keto snacks and desserts often have different kinds of alternative or artificial sweeteners. Trying keto snacks and keto desserts isn't a bad thing, but it's crucial to check the ingredients. Just because it's labeled “keto” doesn't make it healthy. Out of all of the sweeteners, erythritol and xylitol* are two of the best. But it's still better to only consume small amounts. Monk fruit and stevia are also great options. However, with stevia, it's important to make sure that the product doesn't also contain maltodextrin. Maltodextrin is higher on the glycemic index than sugar. Maltitol, agave nectar, and functional fibers should also be avoided. Including too much of these sugar alcohols (even the good ones) in your diet can cause bloating, fluid retention, diarrhea, and can upset the gut microbiome. They may also prevent you from getting rid of cravings. I think sugar alternatives are great to help a person transition off of consuming sugar and for an occasional treat—but they shouldn't be consumed on a regular basis. *Pet owners should keep in mind that certain alternative sweeteners, like xylitol, can be highly toxic to animals. Sugar alternatives can be found in a wide range of products and may go by different names. It's best to keep these types of products far out of reach from your pets. Did you know some health supplements contain hidden sugar, like maltodextrin? Today, I will share a simple test to find hidden sugar in your food and health supplements. Iodine mixed with water is a golden color. If you combine iodine with starch, it turns blue. When you add iodine to bread, for example, it turns blue. Or, if you put maltodextrin in water and add a few drops of iodine, the water will turn blue. My brand of electrolyte powder doesn't have any sugar or maltodextrin in it. However, when we look at a competitor's electrolyte powder that also claims it doesn't have sugar or maltodextrin, it turns blue when iodine is added. Maltodextrin behaves like sugar, spiking insulin, but can be classified on a label as a carb and not a sugar. On the glycemic index, table sugar is at 65, and glucose is at 100—maltodextrin is between 105 and 185. Maltodextrin is the most common starch added to supplements and other products. If there is less than one gram of maltodextrin in a product per serving size, the company doesn't even have to state it. Maltodextrin can also be found in flavorings, energy gels, sports powders, and even baby formulas. It's important to be aware that some so-called keto-friendly products can also contain maltodextrin.

In a journey to try to find something to flavor my water, I came across the ingredient Maltodextrin and found out:It can be used as an insecticideIt hurts your gutCreates a MAMMOTH sugar spike in your bloodIt's made from Corn, which (most of it) is GMOIt increases E coliIt is in EVERYTHING (including my protein powder from GNC or a Vegan protein powder). When I looked at all the ingredients to flavor your water, I wanted something that didn't have any of the following:MaltodextrinHigh Fructose Corn SyrupAspartameI was amazed at how this stuff is just in everything. Why? Because it's CHEAP.Cirkul Flavoring Your Water Your WayThis is an exciting system where you can buy a bottle or just a lid, and you slide this capsule into the top with a flavor packet and pick how much of the flavoring you want (so you decide how much flavor you get).I was drinking an Advocare product with a lot of caffeine that wasn't cheap. So far, one capsule (about $4) lasted me a few days (which is much less than what I was doing). My favorite taste is tea with lemon. Some of them (watermelon/strawberry) just tasted sweet. Check it out.Keto MojoI am in my 50s and can't see much of the lower half of my body due to my belly. I've had enough. My mother had Type 1 diabetes, so I'm at risk, and I'm not "hoping" I don't get it; I want to see where my blood sugar is, so I bought a Keto Mojo kit. This should arrive next week, and while I'm not looking forward to pricking my fingers, a member of the Monthly Fitness Challenge uses one and says it's not that big a deal, and you barely get pricked. So more information on this in the future. If you are interested, you can save 15% using this linkhttps://supportthisshow.com/ketomojo (aff)
