Jenny Perlitch talks about her career journey; lessons learned as a woman & immigrant; and supporting diversity within the transportation industry. IN THIS EPISODE WE DISCUSS: [05.15] Jenny's journey from Ukraine to Germany to Cananda, and what it taught her. “It taught me a lot. All of a sudden you're thrown from your comfortable environment to one with a completely different language and culture… I learned resilience and adaptability, and they really helped me in business. It made me independent and I believed things could be done.” [07.58] Why Jenny's computer science background is so compatible with a career in supply chain. “It's a way of thinking. I'll look at things as a problem that could be solved by building an algorithm. Take something complex and break it down into smaller parts, automate those parts, and put it all back together like a beautiful puzzle.” [11.35] How a summer job became a lifelong career in supply chain for Jenny when she discovered a joy in pushing out of her comfort zone and a talent for problem-solving. [13.39] Why Jenny co-founded IRT Technologies, specializing in equipment for the satellite market, in 2011. [15.14] Why, in the same year, Jenny also founded Perlitch Transport, and the challenges of founding and growing two businesses simultaneously. “I was single, I had to do something!” [19.00] The areas of business Jenny is most passionate about, as a founder and CEO, and why it's important to recognize your strengths and weaknesses. “I really like the strategic side of the business. You try something, look at the results, and try a different way… But I'm very quick to do things, sometimes I lack patience… It's important to be honest about your weakness, fill in the gaps with great people, and then empower those people.” [20.52] Some of the toughest challenges Jenny has faced whilst running her businesses, and her unique approach to overcoming them. [27.31] Jenny's experience as a woman in supply chain, and what she's learned. “It's a very male-dominated industry… You feel it very quickly when you're trying to get in... In the early days, when I had a good idea, a good vision, and I knew how to do things… they brushed me off, didn't take me seriously or let me finish. And eventually your voice becomes low and apologetic. At that point, you have to put yourself back together, and try a different door.” [31.47] How Jenny creates positive and inclusive cultures within her own organizations, and her advice for other businesses looking to do better. [34.28] The importance of awards, and what they mean for the industry as it continues to strive for improved diversity and equity. [38.48] The future for Jenny. Today we go to the state of Alaska which is home to 229 federally recognized Native American nations. Our guest joins us for the hour to share her experiences at the United Nations Environmental Programme 4th Session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (April 23rd-29th, 2024), including the United States violations of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, U.S. militarism, plastic colonization from the violent legacy of the American petroleum and chemical companies maiming, MMIWG2+, and the wounding and killing life throughout the Arctic region combined forms are intensifying the process of genocide and are placing Indigenous peoples throughout the Arctic Circumpolar Region futures at risk. There are more than 13 million people from more than 40 ethnic groups and Indigenous nations inhabiting the Arctic Circumpolar North region and all face real and formidable risks and threats from the climate crises, state-corporate violence, other compounded forms of settler colonial violence, including the intergenerational harms caused from plastic colonization. With the annual plastic production doubling in 20 years to 460 million tons, plastic contributions to global warming could more than double by 2060 if current rates remain unchanged. Plastic colonization severely impacts the Arctic region and it is, in fact, a “hemispheric sink” where plastics and petrochemicals from the South (of the Arctic region) accumulate, leaving Indigenous communities and nations to bear the brunt of pollution that did not come from their traditional lands. The United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP), the fourth session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee 4th Session was held from April 23rd to April 29th, 2024 in Ottawa, Cananda. The meeting, nonetheless, was attended by 480 observer organizations, including environmental NGOs and 196 fossil fuel and chemical industry lobbyists and its purposes was for all parties to develop a legally binding instrument that ultimately would eliminate toxic plastic productions as one way to stop plastic colonialism, the killing life on the Mother Earth, and help reduce the impacts of the climate crises. Listen to hear what happened and how Indigenous peoples and nations were treated. Guest: Vi Waghiyi, Sivuqaq Yupik, Native Village of Savoonga Tribal Citizen, grandmother, mother, activist, and she is the Environmental Health and Justice Director with the Alaska Community Action on Toxics (https://www.akaction.org). Vi Waghiyi is a nationally recognized environmental justice leader and is frequently invited to speak locally, nationally, and internationally. Vi serves as a leader of the Global Indigenous Peoples Caucus that advises the United Nation's international delegates for treaties concerning persistent organic pollutants. She served as a member of the Environmental Health Sciences Council that advises the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. The Native Village of Savoonga is located on what is colonially known as the St. Lawrence Island which is located west of mainland Alaska in the Bering Sea. The most remote region of Minnesota is arguably the Northwest Angle in Lake of the Woods County. It's completely surrounded by Cananda or water — in fact, it's the highest point in the lower 48. And the few locals in the area are preparing for a big celebration — and a transition. Grace Prothero has run the remote Prothero's Post log cabin resort alongside her late husband Dale for a whopping 60 years. At 91, now that her hearing has gone, Grace is retiring—and handing off the business to her granddaughter, Kellie Knight. Next Thursday July 6 their community will hold a celebration for Grace's retirement—and her 91st birthday. Grace is full of stories from the region over the past 60 years. She shared some of them with MPR News host Emily Bright.

Welcome to another episode of the Decoding Purpose Podcast. Now today’s episode is one that I hold close to the heart for several reasons, and that is because this subject, this practice, this process and philosophy is one that has literally kept me sane throughout the craziness that has been 2020. In Fact it kept me sane through various chapters of my life. What I am talking about is none other than the art and practice of yoga.So what does yoga have to do with our life purpose? In my opinion everything. See just like yoga, I am a firm believer that purpose is a practice, and that a huge part of living with a purpose is all about showing up on the mat. Leaning into the postures, just as we lean into our lives.Just like yoga, there will be days where the postures flow, and other days where we feel challenged, but as we move through the process, and as we keep showing up for the sovereignty that is our life purpose we continue to move towards an integrated state of being. A state of wholeness and a place of union. A coming together of the possibilities for our life, channeled through us, and through our bodies. Though our purpose.Personally practicing yoga has been so much more than a form of exercise in my world. I have found my dharma on the mat. As we discuss in today's episode in exploring the nature of yoga - It has enabled me to stop viewing my life as an autobiography, in order to play an active role in creating my own script with the golden ink of purpose. For all of these reasons, in today's podcast I wanted to talk to someone who is way more qualified than I to decode yoga philosophy. Coming all the way from Toronto, Dr. Shyam Ranganathan is the founder of Yoga Philosophy - a scholar-practitioner initiative - and a virtual school of yoga. He is a field-changing researcher, scholar, author and teacher of philosophy, and an expert in the neglected traditions of Indian moral philosophy, which covers practical questions of how to live, what to aim for, and what we should value—including Yoga.So without further delay let's get on the mat, and get ready to decode our dharma, through the lens of our limbs, our breath and all the beautiful states of being the practice of yoga provides.Welcome to the podcast.

Aingeal Rose & Ahonu interview Christian Minson on his transformational breath business called BreathFlow. Why do you do what you do? At early age there was a spark inside me that there had to be more to life than what I was currently experiencing.Seeking deeper meaning consumed my focus, so I became a monk as a result. I focused on expanding consciousness in meditation. I realized that life is a special path, whether we know it or not. It is the evolution of consciousness. It is the true purpose of life. I believe that life is two forces, one that takes us apart, one that brings us together. After years of meditation, I was introduced to breathwork. Breathwork is a powerful tool for bringing together. It has the same effect as meditation, but accelerated and not as tough. The common element to meditation is the focus on breath. It took me down deep quickly. It is also accessible to more people without any religious overlay or dogma. It is a tool that helped me and it can help others, everyone in fact. I couldn't help but want to share it. You have an interesting background could you reveal a little for us? I am a military brat. I have a cosmopolitan attitude and a love of travel. I was a graphic designer for the sex toy industry but I was very discontent and unhappy, so I became a monk. After that I became an international breathworker and I now teach in Mexico, Cananda, all over the USA, in Moscow, Berlin and Bulgaria. Where did you learn your skills as a breathworker? Judith Kravitz is my mentor. She has the largest breath school on the planet. I learned in 2006 and since then I spent over 1000 hours working with her personally as her right hand man, in her semainrs as well as leading my own workshops as a senior trainer. My own Journey with breathwork and challenges commonly faced. Common challenges that were mine too: Feeling disconnected, desiring deep connection with spirit, facing huge crossroads decision, needing clarity, managing anxiety under extreme circumstances. What is your philosophy behind breathwork? It is an holistic approach to life. We are endowed with all the tools we need to thrive in this life, and breath is a tool/instrument and a map. It is a map for assessment of our state. Life is a flow. Holding on dams that flow, while breathwork breaks the dam. As a tool: We are spiritual beings having a human experience. Our goal is evolution back to our spirit nature. There is an interface between physical and spiritual. A portal. That is the breath. As spiritual teacher P. Yogananda stated "Breath is the cord that ties the soul to the flesh." How do YOU facilitate a breath session, differently than others? Part coaching, part breath experience. Inherently spiritual bent. Tune in with needs of individual, focus directly on that. Read the breath. Grounded sense, hold down while storms of emotions pass, energetic exchange at end with feet. Come back, share the experience and what I saw in breath. What is so important about the breath? Eastern sages and mystics have known and used the power of the breath for centuries. It is the cord that ties the soul to flesh. Do we really need to learn how to breathe? We all walk but sometimes it needs correction. In the same way, 90% of us have some issues with our breathing. What is Transformational Breath® (TB)? It is a powerful, safe self-healing technique… physical, emotional, spiritual benefits. What makes TB better than other modalities out there for healing and personal growth? Mainly the time and efficacy. Takes much less time to reap greater results. Compare with psychotherapy, compare with meditation, used in conjunction with physical exercise will maximize your abilities and extend your breaking point. What have the results been for your clients? Relief from chronic pains, emotional issues, improved relationships, greater spiritual connection with less fear, improvement of finances. What can one expect from a TB session? Safety and trust. Opening like you have never experienced before. It is the quintessential experience. You become buddies for life - and it blows the lid off transformation. Is there any scientific basis for the healing power of the breath? More and more it is emerging. Two devices are currently on the market for breathing to help lower blood pressure and reducing stress. Hyperbaric chambers, ozone therapy. Why have a device when TB can do the same thing? I have a device which helps athletes, asthmatics, and others exercise their respiratory muscles to maximize their breathing capacity. What different type of people is this good for? As emotional therapy: Children, people suffering from addictions of any sort, stressed out, chronic physical pains, chronic emotional conditions, especially anxiety, anyone feeling disconnected or lackluster about life, asthmatics. As technique for accession potential: Physical: Athletes wanting to improve their performance, Spiritual: people who want to experience a deeper connection with the source of their being. Success driven: people who just want to such the marrow out of life and have the most exciting and intense experiences that life has to offer. Who have you facilitated in TB? Rehab patients, children, athletes, business men under lots of stress and anxiety, mothers, people with lots of emotional baggage, cancer patients What services do you offer? Individual and group breath sessions, in person or remote, spirit-based action coaching, holistic wellness coaching with biz partner Dr. Olga Goldina, products that support the breathing process.
