This is a very special episode that we have for you this week, because for the first time in six years, Pearl Jam finally returned home to play a show in Seattle. Not only that, but it was both Randy and Javier's first time witnessing a show in their hometown. It was a week of celebration as the city featured so many fun events in connection with the band, and what made it memorable on our part is that we had such a great group of friends to experience it with. From visiting Seattle grunge landmarks, to signing massive flags and pre-gaming at local bars, this is one of our favorite traveling experiences. Which is why we have invited our group of friends who all stayed together at a BNB in striking distance to Climate Pledge Arena on this episode to talk about how meaningful it was to all of us. While the six person conversation will certainly take up a healthy chunk of the episode, we will dig deep into this awesome show from last year. There are special moments featured here that a year later we look back on very fondly. The last five songs in the main set - Upper Hand, Waiting For Stevie, Man Of The Hour, Satan's Bed and Rearviewmirror displayed perhaps one of the best set runs that Pearl Jam had in all of 2024. We'll spend a lot of time on Man Of The Hour, which was already a highly emotional moment due to the tribute to the late Bill Walton, but was also incredibly important to the hosts from this night. While the end of the main set was killer, the end of the encore has tons of talking points as well with a modified rendition of All Along The Watchtower, the first appearance of Yellow Wing (a mashup of Ledbetter and Little Wing) as well as one of the final times to date that Setting Sun has closed a show. For all of you old school Live On 4 Legs fans, this will take you back to older episodes as the total run time on this exceeds two hours, but there's no lack of stories and celebration for a show that certainly deserves it's flowers!

On Aug. 18, 1969, legendary guitarist Jimi Hendrix stepped onto the stage at the Woodstock, N.Y., Music Festival and embarked upon an uninterrupted set lasting nearly two hours--one of the longest performances of his career.FOUR MONTHS LATER...........December 31, 1969 -Prior to their two concerts later that evening, Hendrix and his Band Of Gypsys held an afternoon sound check and rehearsal at the Fillmore East.Fillmore East, New York Two Shows Prior to their two concerts later that evening, Hendrix and his Band Of Gypsys held an afternoon sound check and rehearsal at the Fillmore East. Later that evening, before a sold out crowd of 2,639, Hendrix rang in the New Year and new decade with two unforgettable performances. The evening's festivities opened with a spirited set by the Voices Of East Harlem, an enthusiastic young gospel ensemble. With the anticipation of the sold out Fillmore audience heightened to fever pitch, Hendrix led his trio through a scintillating, seventy-five minute opening performance. None of the eleven songs presented had yet to grace an Experience album. In the place of signature songs like “Purple Haze” and “All Along The Watchtower” were confident renditions of “Izabella” and “Hear My Train A Comin'”. At midnight, Kip Cohen, the venue's master of ceremonies, rang in the new year and decade buffeted by Guy Lombardo's “Auld Lang Syne”. Never one to be upstaged, Jimi and company greeted the joyous house with their own inspired reading of the holiday staple. For Amalie Rothschild, the Fillmore East's house photographer, the experience was an unforgettable one. “Then there was the countdown at midnight. It was the countdown that was a real scream. We're talking about the end of the Sixties. December 31, 1969 turning into January 1, 1970–.A new decade. This was significant. After all, we were living through it and we knew that the Sixties were the Sixties. We had this big countdown on the [Joshua White] light show screen with this big clock 10, 9, 8, 7, 6…and everybody is yelling together. Then the light show screen pulls up and everybody is on stage–all the crew and the musicians. Hendrix, who is now on stage, launches into this amazing rendition of ‘Auld Lang Syne' and I filmed it [excerpts of Rothschild's color film footage can be seen in the VHS/DVD Band Of Gypsys]. This was history in the making. You could not miss this. His performance was just so inspired. It was just terrific and I can't find the words to describe it.” The recordings which make up both Band Of Gypsys and its two disc sequel Live At The Fillmore East certainly bear out Rothschild's remembrances. Jimi's celebrated work with the Band Of Gypsys stands among his most impressive and lasting achievements. After the show, Ian Dove of Record Mirror interviewed Jimi Hendrix for the January 10, 1970 edition of the British paper. Later that night, Hendrix retreated to The Café Caliph (previously known as The Café Au Go Go) in Greenwich Village where he joined The James Cotton Blues Band on stage for a jam.
Get ready for The Grateful Dead Hour and a Half. This week on the Help on the Way Pod, our hosts Game, FiG, and Knob are joined by the one and only David Gans. Together, they listen to and discuss the Grateful Dead's June 8th, 1994 show at the Cal Expo Center in Sacramento, California.

From August 3, 2020: Dave Mason and friends have taken the downtime during quarantine to remake one of Mason's most iconic and heavily covered songs since its release in 1968 - "Feelin' Alright." Dubbed "Dave Mason and the Quarantines," the group's new song features Mason singing along with Mick Fleetwood, Sammy Hagar, Michael McDonald, and The Doobie Brothers: John McFee, Tom Johnston, John Cowan, and Pat Simmons. Dave's longtime drummer, Alvino Bennett, also lends a hand as does Pat Simmons Jr., Pat's son, joining in the fun.ABOUT DAVE MASONRock and Roll Hall of Famer Dave Mason's career spans over half a century and encompasses producing, performing and song writing. Fans and critics alike hail Dave as one of the most talented songwriters and guitarists in the world - which is why he is still performing over 100 shows a year to sold-out crowds. Mason has been playing guitar most of his life. By 15, Dave had founded two bands: The Deep Feeling and The Hellions. At 18, the Worcester, England native teamed up with Steve Winwood, Jim Capaldi and Chris Wood to form the legendary band Traffic. At 19, Mason penned the song "Feelin' Alright". The rock anthem, first recorded by Traffic and then covered by dozens of other artists (including Joe Cocker), cemented both Dave's and Traffic's legacy and had a profound influence over rock music that continues today.Mason left Traffic in 1969 to pursue a solo career in the US. Dave has penned over 100 songs, has 3 gold albums: Alone Together, Dave Masonand Mariposa De Oro and a platinum album Let it Flow, which contained the top-ten single "We Just Disagree".In addition to cranking out hits, Dave has performed on or contributed to a number of famous albums, including: The Rolling Stones' Beggars Banquet, George Harrison's All Things Must Pass, Paul McCartney and Wings Venus and Mars and Jimi Hendrix's Electric Ladyland. Mason is featured playing acoustic guitar in "All Along the Watchtower" on Electric Ladyland, a favorite in Dave's live shows!Dave, a prolific artist in his own right, has collaborated with an enviable list of the who's who in the music industry. Jimi Hendrix, George Harrison, Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Graham Nash, Stephen Stills, Rita Coolidge, Delaney & Bonnie, Leon Russell, Ron Wood, Steve Winwood, Eric Clapton, and Jim Capaldi, just to name a few. In addition to his own productions, Mason's distinctive work is featured on numerous gold and platinum albums such as:Jimi Hendrix Electric Ladyland "All Along The Watchtower" (acoustic guitar) and "Crosstown Traffic" (vocals)George Harrison All Thing Must Pass (various tracks)The Rolling Stones Beggars Banquet "Street Fighting Man" (shehnai and mellotron)Paul McCartney and Wings Venus And Mars "Listen To What The Man Said" (guitar)Graham Nash Songs For BeginnersDavid Crosby & Graham Nash, Graham Nash David CrosbyDave Mason & Cass Elliot (Mamas & Papas) Dave Mason & Cass ElliotThe Spencer Davis Group "Somebody Help Me", "Gimme Some Lovin'" and "I'm A Man" (vocals)Fleetwood Mac Time(guitar, vocals)Eric Clapton Crossroads (guitar)When Dave is not touring, he spends his time writing and producing music in his home studio, as well as tirelessly supporting philanthropic efforts for Rock Our Vets, a non-profit he co-founded.

++++++++++Song-Tipps zur Folge++++++++++ "Foxy Lady", "Manic Depression", "Hey Joe", "Love Or Confusion", "Purple Haze", "The Wind Cries Mary", "May This Be Love", "Fire", "Spanish Castle Magic", "If Six Was Nine", "Little Wing", "Bold As Love", "Have You Ever Been (To Electric Ladyland)", "Crosstown Traffic", "Long Hot Summer Night", "Burning Of The Midnight Lamp", "All Along The Watchtower", "Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)"

Stevie Wonder y offre une version inspirée du classique "Blowin'in the Wind". Eric Clapton reprend " Don't Think Twice, It's All Right ", Neil Young, qui interprète " All Along The Watchtower " en compagnie de Booker T and The Mg's.

It's not uncommon knowledge that Bob Dylan's live shows can be hit or miss. It depends on his mood and what songs he feels like playing. However, as a naive Dylan fan, my understanding of the artist was limited to the early-60s folk singer—the image of a man dwarfed by his guitar—the protest singer who denied ever singing a protest ballad.Yet, when I saw Bob Dylan live, he hid behind a keyboard, and his arrangements sounded nothing like the song. A sinking disappointment grew with every note. This was a bait-and-switch performance.

Bob Dylan wrote “All Along The Watchtower” for his 1967 album, John Wesley Harding, after realizing he was getting swindled by his own management and record label. Jimi Hendrix immediately covered the song for his final album, Electric Ladyland, and did such a mind-blowing job of interpreting it musically and lyrically that Bob Dylan has long admitted it to be the better version. *all along the watchtower plays in the distance* lol... even if in this episode the song tied to the guest star of the week was House of the Rising Sun, same deal. And once again, if you haven't watched Battlestar Galactica, can I take this opportunity to recommend it most strongly. Then you'll get this reference. :'D I love this episode. It's a wonderful exemplar of the inside-out storytelling Supernatural uses really well most of the time, and helps us get through difficult things when we know the trick of them. Since this is why I started this podcast in the first place-- because Supernatural only improves with rewatches, when you know how things will resolve (well, except the series finale because wtf...), entire episodes, hell entire SEASONS of this show look completely different. I'm just here to point that out in every way I possibly can. Plus, Sam and Dean are FINALLY working well together. TEAMWORK! And Sam gets to directly save someone. It's the catharsis we as the audience have needed for a while, too. Things referenced in this week's episode: Battlestar Galactica (kind of joking, but seriously, All Along The Watchtower is to that series what House of the Rising Sun is to this one... and like AATW, the end is the beginning. Plus Tricia Helfer.) The Superwiki page for this episode My tag for this episode (again, not a lot, but what's there is meaty) Casting sides for David McNamara (trying a new system, since the slideshare was giving me fits this week) --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/spngeorg/support
While held captive for 32 months by Somali pirates, writer and Dylan fan Michael Scott Moore had plenty of opportunity to contemplate lyrics, especially All Along The Watchtower. He was given a Bible during his captivity and discovered, in Isaiah, “the ramparts, the princes, the two horsemen and the wildcat. The whole song clicked! It's about the fall of Babylon! Or Western Capitalism. Or the music business.” His other favourite captivity song was Jokerman (“freedom just around the corner for you”).We delve into the mysterious Infidels album in detail (“is he accusing the audience or himself with that title? I never got the sense that he left himself out of the equation”). Other topics covered: Dick Dale, Charlie McCoy, Bobbie Gentry, surfing in the Gaza Strip and the philosophy of Richard Mitchell. Lazer's personal message from Israel plus a musical space of deep introspection and prayer to rise above the bombing, terror and hatred... All music written and performed by Lazer Lloyd except "All Along The Watchtower" written by Bob Dylan.
Hij vertaalde ‘Forever Young', ‘Death is not the end' en ‘All Along The Watchtower' en maakte zijn eigen bewerking van ‘To make you feel my love'.
Comedian Nish Kumar says: “Bob Dylan is the most enduring and important creative relationship of my life. If you can't think of one Dylan song you like, then a part of your humanity may be missing”. When Bob and his band played the Hendrix arrangement of All Along The Watchtower at his first (and only) Dylan concert, it was “one of the greatest moments of my life”. In other words, he's our sort of chap.Cheerfully agreeing that “there's no bore like a Dylan bore”, Nish gives us his takes on Tangled Up In Blue (“I don't think he's ever finished it”), The Lonesome Death Of Hattie Carroll, Bob Dylan's 115th Dream and I Shall Be Released. We get the inside story on using Bob as a role model when being booed (“bloody-minded obstinance in the face of people being dicks is very inspiring”) and for personal grooming inspiration (“my hair grows the way it grows because of the Blonde On Blonde album cover”).Nish Kumar grew up in Croydon, South London. He has a degree in History and English from Durham University. His sold-out solo shows have won awards at the Edinburgh Fringe and toured nationally and internationally to huge acclaim. Nish's TV appearances include a Netflix Special, The John Bishop Show, Have I Got News For You, Alan Davies As Yet Untitled, QI, Mock The Week, and Live At The Apollo. He has been the presenter of the topical comedy show Newsjack on Radio 4 Extra, hosts television's very popular The Mash Report on BBC Two and chairs The News Quiz on BBC Radio 4.WebsiteTrailerTwitterSpotify playlistListeners: please subscribe and/or leave a review and a rating.Twitter @isitrollingpodRecorded 24th February 2020This show is part of Pantheon Podcasts.
