Pegbo is revolutionizing the construction technology landscape by helping local, small, and diverse businesses accelerate their participation in the supply chain. With $1.4 million in funding, this construction tech platform is streamlining how emerging businesses win more jobs in an industry that's traditionally been slow to adopt technology. In this episode of Category Visionaries, Amar Amte shares his journey from Google to founding Pegbo, including his initial pivot from an equipment rental marketplace to a supplier diversity procurement platform, and how his outsider perspective has become a competitive advantage. Topics Discussed: Pegbo's evolution from an equipment rental marketplace to a supplier diversity procurement platform How being an industry outsider (coming from Google) provides unique advantages when building in construction tech The impact of digitization and AI on construction technology adoption and investor interest Regulatory changes affecting supplier diversity and local business participation in construction Marketing strategies centered on community-building and promoting people rather than product The company's approach to rapid growth while maintaining financial discipline How AI is revolutionizing construction tech by making previously expensive operations highly affordable GTM Lessons For B2B Founders: Let your product do the selling: Pegbo focuses on demonstrating their product rather than making promises. Amar notes, "The aha moment is product. We are letting our products sell themselves." B2B founders should prioritize building a product that speaks for itself rather than relying heavily on marketing rhetoric. Make meaningful pivots quickly: When Pegbo discovered customers were asking about minority and small businesses rather than just equipment rentals, they completely pivoted their business model. Within 15 days of pivoting, they had their first paying customer. Founders should be prepared to recognize when the market is pulling them in a different direction and be willing to make decisive changes quickly. Focus on post-event value: For community events, Pegbo concentrates not just on the event itself but what happens before, during, and after. Amar explains, "If people are not qualified with a general contractor, they just waste a lot of time... What we focus on is what happens after the event." B2B founders should design events with clear pathways to customer value beyond networking. Strategic resource allocation: Despite raising $1.4 million, Pegbo maintains strict financial discipline. Amar personally paid for his branded Cybertruck rather than using company funds, stating, "I don't want to spend my investors' money on renting toilets and kitchens." Funding should be directed primarily toward product development and customer acquisition. Embrace regulatory changes as opportunities: Rather than seeing shifting regulations around supplier diversity as threats, Pegbo views them as opportunities. Amar notes that even as some diversity criteria change, "support to local businesses, small businesses are going to stay." B2B founders should look for the consistent underlying needs that persist through regulatory changes. Start manual, then automate: Pegbo's growth strategy involves first getting orders, performing some services manually to learn, then automating those processes. This approach led to completely automated $23,000 projects without founder involvement. B2B founders should consider a "do things that don't scale" approach initially before building automation systems. // Sponsors: Front Lines — We help B2B tech companies launch, manage, and grow podcasts that drive demand, awareness, and thought leadership. www.FrontLines.io The Global Talent Co. — We help tech startups find, vet, hire, pay, and retain amazing marketing talent that costs 50-70% less than the US & Europe. www.GlobalTalent.co

Phil Carroll and Kevin Hornsby welcome Ben Clube and Mark Steeves of Energy Pathways. Energy Pathways is an emerging player in the field of clean energy solutions, focusing on providing low-emission energy solutions to meet the increasing demand for clean energy in the UK as it strives to achieve its Net Zero goals. The company recently gained admission to AIM through a reverse takeover with Dial Square Investments plc, marking its presence as the only energy company admitted to AIM in 2023, even amidst challenging market conditions. The company aims to progress its Marram Project to Final Investment Decision (FID) in 2024, with the project holding significant potential as a low-emission gas field in the UK Irish Sea, featuring substantial reserves and contingent resources. The company's strategic approach involves near-term development of low-emission gas projects while focusing on long-term energy transition solutions. It aligns with the UK's emphasis on domestic gas to support energy security and the transition to a net-zero economy. The company also holds a "first-mover advantage" in the East Irish Sea region, a promising area for low-emission gas reserves that can contribute to energy transition opportunities, including hydrogen production and carbon capture and storage. With its strong foundation and commitment to sustainable energy solutions, the company is well-positioned to play a pivotal role in the UK's evolving energy landscape. They are also joined by Shaun Day, MD of Greatland Gold, who talks World news, Haveiron Mineral Resource Estimate Update and how 2024 might shape up for Grealand. As usual, there is a weekly round-up of the movers and shakers and a look at the biggest news stories of the past week. Temple Walkowiak shares the origin story of AMTE Community Circles, and how and why AMTE members should get involved. She also talks about her role as an MTE, the importance of making goals explicit, and the importance of getting to know the people you are working with. 2021-2022 AMTE Community Circles * MTEs who are the sole MTE at their institution * LGBTQ+ inclusion in mathematics teacher education * Statistics and data science teacher education * Anti-racist teaching practices in mathematics teacher education * MTEs of color * Early career MTEs, including graduate students Call for 2022-23 Community Circles We would love to add more Community Circles driven by AMTE members. Here are the expectations for starting a Community Circle: You need at least three AMTE members who are interested and committed to participating in the Circle (you and two other members). The Circle will meet virtually at least four times across the academic year (approximately September, December, February, and May). One of these meetings should occur during the time of the Annual Conference. You need at least one person who is willing to be the Lead Contact between the Circle and the AVP for Membership. The Lead Contact: -Communicates the meeting times, dates, and meeting links for distribution to the Membership. -Ensures that attendance is taken at the meetings via a provided electronic form. -Submits a brief annual report at the conclusion of the academic year that includes an overview of the Circle's activities. Submit your idea on this brief form (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeCj-KlQTz-tUQIBWgtabimBeUdCJZBygdKJlqhGbpIvNNtlg/viewform) for your Community Circle by June 15, 2022. The Lead Contact should submit the information, which should only take a few minutes. We look forward to starting more AMTE Community Circles! Temple mentioned the VEAR-MI Project (https://research.ced.ncsu.edu/vear-mi/) as well. Be on the lookout for results from this project! Special Guest: Temple Walkowiak.

The Mathematics Teacher Educator journal is co-sponsored by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators. In June, both organizations released statements that call for mathematics teachers and mathematics teacher educators (MTEs) to “engage in anti-racist and trauma-informed education in our daily practices as processes of learning and adjustments” (NCTM, 2020) and to “actively work to be anti-racist in our acts of teaching, research, and service” (AMTE, 2020). This editorial highlights equity-related interventions and tools that can be implemented by MTEs. We reiterate statements made by NCTM and AMTE, describe key features of interventions and tools, and share equity-related resources published in the journal for MTEs to use with teachers. UK aims to accelerate the ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel vehicles, bringing it forward by five years to 2030, as part of a £4bn ‘green industrial revolution.’ £1.3bn of investment has also been pledged towards electric vehicle (EV) charging points, as well as grants for EV buyers stretching to £582m to help people make the transition, whilst there is also nearly £500m for battery manufacture. UK aids companies such as AMTE Power The UK government has insisted that it would collaborate with the UK motor industry to aid the mass production of electric vehicles and lithium-ion batteries that power them, but the sector is already struggling to keep up with the surge in demand. This questions whether the country and Boris Johnson’s cabinet will be able to meet deadlines and have a sufficient supply of electric vehicles in less than 10 years. To support the expanding electric vehicle market – which will make up 1 in 5 of all car sales by 2026 – the creation of an onshore full-cycle supply chain and return of the investment ecosystem needs to be prioritised during Boris Johnson’s tenure as prime minister. We have Kevin Brundish, the founder and CEO of the UK’s only full-cycle battery manufacturer AMTE Power, who is available for an interview to discuss the new challenges facing the strained sector and what needs to be done in order to hit the new 2030 target. Kevin Brundish, CEO at AMTE Power comments: “This is obviously fantastic news and accelerates the electrification of cars, which is a significant step in meeting the country’s climate change targets. For businesses like ours, which are targeting the development and supply of innovative battery cell products, this continued government support, which goes alongside financial support packages such as the Faraday Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund and the Automotive Transformation Fund, will help to create the right investment environment for us to grow here in the UK. This accelerated transition to electrification will require an onshore supply chain for the electric vehicle’s most crucial component, the lithium-ion battery, the creation and growth of which will also stimulate the wider economy and create much-needed jobs. AMTE Power’s own manufacturing expansion plans are very much aligned with this onshore supply chain need.” About AMTE Power AMTE Power works with clients and partners to scale new battery cell technologies through to manufacture and supply. AMTE helps in the early stages of development and design for manufacture and has developed advanced lithium battery cells for a range of end-user markets. AMTE’s cells show significant technological development over traction battery cells currently available. Offering almost an order of magnitude by providing information and characterisation of battery cells, whilst simultaneously eliminating more than half of a conventional BMS, the smart cell technology has the potential to revolutionise the next generation of automotive EV and HEV battery packs, with significant safety and weight advantages, it is especially attractive in the world of marine and aerospace as well as Electric Vehicles. AMTE’s battery production facility has a unique cell manufacturing plant in Thurso, Scotland. It is a direct replica of the large-scale cell manufacturing process, supporting prototyping and development of new technology on schedule. More about Irish Tech News and Business Showcase here. Mathematics Teacher Educators (MTEs) help preservice teachers in transitioning from students to teachers of mathematics. They support PSTs in shifting what they notice and envision to align with the collective vision encoded in the AMTE and NCTM standards. This study analyzes drawings and descriptions completed at the beginning and end of a one-year teacher education program—snapshots depicting optimized visions of teaching and learning mathematics. This study analyzed drawings-and-descriptions by cohort and by participants. The findings suggest that the task can be used as formative assessment to inform supports for specific PSTs such as choosing a cooperating teacher or coursework that challenges problematic beliefs. It can also be used as summative assessment to inform revision of coursework for the next cohort. Special Guest: Jennifer Ruef.

RANDY PHILLIPP, CHRISTINE AND MIKE SHAUGHNESSY ON WHATS CHANGING IN MATH TEACHER EDUCATION
In this show we are privileged to have Dr. Vikas Amte, son of late Sh. Baba Amte. Baba Amte setup Anandwan in 1951 to help patients of leprosy on the outskirts of Warora in Chandrapur district in Maharashtra. He transformed a barren piece of land into an oasis which today shelters about 2500 people with severe disabilities, leprosy survivors, and other destitute people who are looking for a better life. Dr. Vikas Amte along with Mr. Gautam Karajgi are travelling to the USA to spread awareness about the excellent work done by the residents of the Anandwan, and tell the world the story of success and enterprise of the people who were once forgotten by all. These people not only changed their own lives but now provide a model which can be used to transform rural India, as well as the lives of other downtrodden people, so that they can move from being forgotten to being indispensable. Dr. Amte will turn 70 years old next month and his life story is intertwined with the history of independent India and one of the biggest social enterprise to cure, and rehabilitate countless people suffering from leprosy. This is also story of a tireless quest for those who lost their beauty for no fault of their own but they prevailed to create something beautiful and share it with the world. Dr. Amte and Gautam are here in USA to accept an award for the “most innovative project at the village level” from the American association of energy engineers as well as spread their vision of “smart Villages. More information about Anandwan can be found at www.anandwan.in.
