Even though the market has been dropping for the past 3 months, very few people think it is going lower. BIG QUESTION: Why does virtually no one on Wall Street believe J Powell? He has been clear. We have been clear. Rates will be higher for longer than most people think. The markets are starting to reflect it, wait till it is fully baked in. Not a rollercoaster I want to be on. Week 2 – Jeff Maness – February 16, 2020 Baptism is not just an event we do in the church, it is a profoundly meaningful and incredibly powerful spiritual practice. But we shouldn’t be baptized just because the church offers it or because it’s important. We truly need to understand why we should be baptized. Baptism: Why? Big Question: Why should we be baptized? Main Scripture: Matthew 3:13-17 Matthew 3:13-17 13 Then Jesus went from Galilee to the Jordan River to be baptized by John. 14 But John tried to talk him out of it. “I am the one who needs to be baptized by you,” he said, “so why are you coming to me?” 15 But Jesus said, “It should be done, for we must carry out all that God requires.” So John agreed to baptize him. 16 After his baptism, as Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and settling on him. 17 And a voice from heaven said, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.” 1. It was modeled by Jesus 2. It was the message, ministry, and mission of Jesus John 4:1-2 1 Jesus knew the Pharisees had heard that he was baptizing and making more disciples than John 2 (though Jesus himself didn't baptize them—his disciples did). Matthew 28:18-20 18 Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” If you were to ask me, “Is baptism necessary for the Christian?” I would say, “Absolutely.” It is not necessary for salvation, but it is necessary for obedience, because Christ, with no ambiguity, commanded that all of those who belong to Him, who are part of the new covenant family, and who receive the benefits of His salvation are to be baptized. — R.C. Sproul 3. It is the mark of Jesus Baptism is a public renouncement of one's former enslavement to satan and the other spiritual rulers of this present darkness, and a vow of loyalty and allegiance to the enthroned King, Jesus. — Dominic Tennant Romans 6:1-4 1 Well then, should we keep on sinning so that God can show us more and more of his wonderful grace? 2 Of course not! Since we have died to sin, how can we continue to live in it? 3 Or have you forgotten that when we were joined with Christ Jesus in baptism, we joined him in his death? 4 For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives.

Week 2 – Jeff Maness – July 7, 2019 Romans 11:36 – For everything comes from him (God) and exists by his power and is intended for his glory. All glory to him forever! Amen. Romans 13:8a 8a Owe nothing to anyone—except for your obligation to love one another. Romans 13:8a (NIV) 8a Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another… Big Idea: The debt of love is not something to avoid, it's something to abide in. Big Question: Why should we abide in the debt of love? Main Scripture: Romans 13:8-10 Free YouVersion Bible app events search “Element Church WY” Romans 13:8a 8a Owe nothing to anyone—except for your obligation (your debt) to love one another. Romans 13:7 7 Give to everyone what you owe them: Pay your taxes and government fees to those who collect them, and give respect and honor to those who are in authority. Love is never fulfilled “The transition of the thought is something of this kind. When you have paid all your other debts, taxes, customs, respect and whatever else you may owe, there will still be one debt unpaid—the universal debt of love. Love must still remain the root and spring of all your actions.” — Charles Ellicott There is only one debt that you must be ever paying, yet ever owing; and that debt is love. — Matthew Poole Romans 12:5 5 We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other. 1 Peter 4:8 8 Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins. John 13:34-35 34 So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. 35 Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.” 1 John 4:7-12 7 Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God. 8 But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love. 9 God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. 10 This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. 11 Dear friends, since God loved us that much, we surely ought to love each other. 12 No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us, and his love is brought to full expression in us. Love always fulfills Romans 13:8b-9 8b If you love your neighbor, you will fulfill the requirements of God's law. 9 For the commandments say, “You must not commit adultery. You must not murder. You must not steal. You must not covet.” These—and other such commandments—are summed up in this one commandment: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Matthew 22:37-40 37 You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.' 40 The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.”

Week 3 – Jeff Maness – January 20, 2019 God’s commands are not meant to be restrictive, they are meant to bring us rest. So often, we view God’s commands as something that keeps us from something in life, but they actually release us to experience the fullness of life that God desires. 19: Commands Big Idea: God's commands are not meant to restrict us, they are meant to bring us rest. They are refreshing Isaiah 55:10-13 10 “The rain and snow come down from the heavens and stay on the ground to water the earth. They cause the grain to grow, producing seed for the farmer and bread for the hungry. 11 It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it. 12 You will live in joy and peace. The mountains and hills will burst into song, and the trees of the field will clap their hands! 13 Where once there were thorns, cypress trees will grow. Where nettles grew, myrtles will sprout up. These events will bring great honor to the LORD's name; they will be an everlasting sign of his power and love.” Psalm 19:8b-9 8b The commands of the Lord are clear, giving insight for living. 9 Reverence for the Lord is pure, lasting forever. The laws of the Lord are true; each one is fair. Psalm 19:7b The decrees of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. 2. They are reliable Psalm 18:30 30 As for God, His way is perfect; the word of the LORD is flawless. He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him. Proverbs 4:13 Take hold of my instructions; don't let them go. Guard them, for they are the key to life. 2 Timothy 3:16 16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. Psalm 19:10-11 10 They are more desirable than gold, even the finest gold. They are sweeter than honey, even honey dripping from the comb. 11 They (God's laws) are a warning to your servant, a great reward for those who obey them. 3. Week 3 – Jeff Maness – June 17th, 2018 Jesus uses some very strong language in explaining why we should be ready for His return. He doesn’t use this strong language to be controversial, and He isn’t trying to be rude, He’s stressing the importance for us to be ready. Knowing when Christ returns is not as important as being ready for His return. End Of The World: Why? Matthew 24:32-33 32 “Now learn a lesson from the fig tree. When its branches bud and its leaves begin to sprout, you know that summer is near. 33 In the same way, when you see all these things, you can know his return is very near, right at the door. Matthew 24:42-44 42 “So you, too, must keep watch! For you don't know what day your Lord is coming. 43 Understand this: If a homeowner knew exactly when a burglar was coming, he would keep watch and not permit his house to be broken into. 44 You also must be ready all the time, for the Son of Man will come when least expected. Big Idea: Knowing when Christ returns is not as important as being ready for His return. Big Question: Why should I be ready for Christ's return? Main Scripture: Matthew 24:45-51, Matthew 25 Free YouVersion Bible app events search “Element Church WY” Matthew 24:44-51 44 You also must be ready all the time, for the Son of Man will come when least expected. 45 A faithful, sensible servant is one to whom the master can give the responsibility of managing his other household servants and feeding them. 46 If the master returns and finds that the servant has done a good job, there will be a reward. 47 I tell you the truth, the master will put that servant in charge of all he owns. 48 But what if the servant is evil and thinks, ‘My master won't be back for a while,' 49 and he begins beating the other servants, partying, and getting drunk? 50 The master will return unannounced and unexpected, 51 and he will cut the servant to pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Matthew 25:1 1 “Then the Kingdom of Heaven (my return) will be like ten bridesmaids who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. Revelation 19:7 7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and let us give honor to him. For the time has come for the wedding feast of the Lamb, and his bride has prepared herself. (made herself ready) Matthew 25:2-13 2 Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. 3 The five who were foolish didn't take enough olive oil for their lamps, 4 but the other five were wise enough to take along extra oil. 5 When the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and fell asleep. 6 At midnight they were roused by the shout, “Look, the bridegroom is coming! Come out and meet him!” 7 All the bridesmaids got up and prepared their lamps. 8 Then the five foolish ones asked the others, “Please give us some of your oil because our lamps are going out.” 9 But the others replied, “We don't have enough for all of us. Go to a shop and buy some for yourselves.” 10 But while they were gone to buy oil, the bridegroom came. Then those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was locked. 11 Later, when the other five bridesmaids returned, they stood outside, calling, “Lord! Lord! Open the door for us!” 12 But he called back, “Believe me, I don't know you!” 13 So you, too, must keep
Week 2 – Jeff Maness – October 1st, 2017 What’s The Big Deal About Baptism? Baptism is a big deal but it’s not the biggest deal in our faith. While we believe it is significant, we do not believe that it is necessary for salvation. So if it’s not necessary, why should we be baptized after we believe? Walk This Way: Baptism Romans 6:4 Baptism is significant in our faith but it’s not necessary for salvation. We were therefore buried with him (Christ) through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. Big Question: Why should we be baptized after belief? Main Scripture: Matthew 3:13-17; 28:19-20 Free YouVersion Bible app events search “Element Church WY” Matthew 3:13-17 13 Then Jesus went from Galilee to the Jordan River to be baptized by John. It was the message of Jesus Luke 7:29-30 29 When they heard this, all the people—even the tax collectors—agreed that God's way was right, for they had been baptized by John. 30 But the Pharisees and experts in religious law rejected God's plan for them (Jesus), for they had refused John's baptism. 3. It was the ministry of Jesus John 4:1-3 Jesus knew the Pharisees had heard that he was baptizing and making more disciples than John 2 (though Jesus himself didn't baptize them—his disciples did). 3 So he left Judea and returned to Galilee. 4. It was a mandate from Jesus Matthew 28:18-20 18 Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Big Question: “Why bother with Church?” Jesus’ church is one community of loving relationships. The structure and busyness of today’s society presents particular challenges to churches really being communities. How can Christians help to ensure that their church is a community, and not simply a group of strangers that meet together once per week? You can listen to Matthew’s sermon here.
Big Question: “Why sermons? Why the Bible?” The Bible is the word of God and Church is Jesus’ gathering community come to hear that word preached. What is the point of sermons? How are they supposed to benefit Christians? How should I get the most out of them? You can listen to Matthew’s sermon here.
Big Question: “Why is God building His Church?” This sermon was given by the bishop of Wollongong, Peter Hayward, at the commemoration of NewLife Anglican Church becoming a Provisional Parish. Peter takes us to Acts 11 to reflect on how Jesus-centred, Bible-believing churches are essential to a local community. You can listen to Bishop of Wollongong Peter Hayward’s sermon here.
