Join Dr. Daniela Steyn and Tenille Hoogland for this Episode of the Health and Wellness Podcast. Tenille Hoogland's mission is to transform how female athletes experience sports and reach lifelong health and athletic excellence.  Her athletic journey began as an Olympic hopeful in synchronized swimming. In her late 20s, she became a professional triathlete. On the surface, her athletic career looks stellar. She represented Canada at International Triathlon Union (ITU) Pan-American Championships, long course events and at IRONMAN World Championships several times, winning numerous titles along the way. However, the method to achieve success had a tremendous cost.  She trained relentlessly, unknowingly developed disordered eating and lost her period for 5 years. This led to several injuries and significant hormone challenges. Mentally, she lost joy in sport and retired from triathlon in 2013. Her struggle to find health and her athletic self spanned several years; first, she overcame 2 years of fertility challenges, learnt how to move again without pain and then to move consistently with joy. It came through deep curiosity, education, and trial and error. This journey led her to create the Mindset, Nutrition, Training, and Recovery Integrated Training System (MNTR-ITS), which she uses alongside her coaching practice. This accessible, step-by-step, evidence-based system empowers female athletes to establish a foundation of health for excellence, performance, and resilience. It works through the physiological life stages of the female athlete, from pre- to post-menopause. Professionally, Tenille was a Senior Planner at the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Federal Secretariat, managed numerous IRONMAN events, held a Management position at Triathlon Canada and was recognized by her national federation and Canadian Olympic Committee as a Future Sports Leader. Now, through her company, Tenille Hoogland Applied Athletics, Tenille coaches female athletes in perimenopause and beyond. She owns the Element Race Team, an amateur women's cycling team whose mission is to get more women on the start lines at cycling events. Having given birth to two beautiful and healthy sons in her 40s, her purpose in sport now is to be fit for a big, long life full of play.Find more information on Tenille Here.Website: https://www.tenillehoogland.comFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/athletesthrivingInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/tenillehooglandaa/Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@tenillehooglandWelcome to this episode of your Wellness MD podcast.Family Physician and Wellness Expert Dr. Daniela Steyn have meaningful conversations that will take your health to the next level. She explores the connection between a healthy body, mind and soul.Dr. Steyn has helped thousands of people have a better quality of life.Join us today, empowering you to live your best life with optimal health! An Abacus Data poll found the Conservatives are leading the Liberals in terms of popularity of both party leader and government ratings. Should Canada's military start ramping up preparations for an impending war? Does it need to do that? "Women of War" at HMCS Haida aims to celebrate women's contributions to the Canadian war effort during World War II. How do extreme environmentalists balance their need to stack people up like cords of wood in cities, while preserving what little parkland there is downtown? Would a new Liberal leader be enough to help the Trudeau Liberals? Michael Pisaric researches the impacts of climate and environmental change in sub arctic and alpine regions of western Canada and Yukon Territory and says, “Although there are short-term impacts on land and water affected by wildfires, they are “resilient and will recover in the long term.” The Canadian Olympic Committee has suspended and removed the Women's Head Coach Bev Priestman from the Canadian Olympic Team. Drone News: Man Arrested for Flying Over SpaceX, 2 New Drone Rumors, & Drone Spying at the Olympics

Drone News Update

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 26, 2024 3:51

The first story this week is not the best one, a man was arrested for flying a drone over the SpaceX launch facility in Cameron County, Tx. The man was identified as 32 yr. old, Reynold Daniel Chavez, admitted he was flying his drone to see the rockets and said he didn't know the airspace was restricted. At this stage, we're unsure what legal ramifications Chavez will face. But he was charged with “operation of an unmanned aircraft over a critical infrastructure facility.” The incident highlights the need for all UAS pilots to know the rules and regulations as well as the airspace they fly in. Whether flying under part 107 or recreationally, flying safely helps protect the industry we love. We'll share updates on this story as more information comes in. Alright, in our next story some more exciting news. We have some new leaked photos and even a video of two new drones. First, what looks like a new DJI Air. It was first speculated to be an DJI Air4 and then later an DJI Air3s. Either way, these new leaks appear to show a much larger gimbal and dual cameras. Could we be getting a 1 inch sensor? The original DJI Air3 came out almost exactly one year ago, on July 25th 2023. And, it's a great drone we still fly today, so we're excited to see what kind of upgrades we'll get with a newer model. This time, several pictures showing a possible Mavic 4 prototype. What is clear is the very visible Hasselblad name branding and a design that looks similar to the current Mavic 3 series. The leaks seem to show a larger gimbal with a 3 camera setup, which could indicate bigger image sensors. You can also see several sensors on the top and bottom of the drone, another possible upgrade could be to obstacle avoidance or tracking features. Again, we'll have to wait and see. But the possibilities are exciting! Next up, an accusation involving drones at the Olympics. A drone was seen flying over the New Zealand women's soccer team during practice. The New Zealand Olympic Committee stated, “Team support members immediately reported the incident to police, leading to the drone operator, who has been identified as a support staff member of the wider Canadian Women's football team, to be detained,” A formal investigation has been launched to review the event. The Canadian Olympic Committee responded with a statement saying, “The Canadian Olympic Committee stands for fair-play and we are shocked and disappointed. We offer our heartfelt apologies to New Zealand Football, to all the players affected, and to the New Zealand Olympic Committee,” We'll have to wait to see what information is uncovered from this story, but we will report back with any updates. Lastly, as mentioned, Greg is at the EAA airshow with a lot of team. This year we have booths 209,210 and in Hangar B booth 2141. No live on Community today and no live on Monday. But, Greg will be back for next week's News Update we'll see you then! https://dronexl.co/2024/07/24/man-arrested-drone-spacex-texas/ https://dronexl.co/2024/07/22/dji-mavic-4-prototype-drone/ https://dronexl.co/2024/07/22/dji-air-3s-drone-video/ https://dronexl.co/2024/07/22/dji-air-3s-drone-video/

International award-winning photographer Dave Sandford is best known for his dramatic collection, Lake Erie - Liquid Mountains.  Submerging himself into the freezing waters of Erie, Sandford's striking images reveal the violent & breathtaking beauty of this Great Lake. His viral waves paved the way for a lifelong dream, a meaningful career in conservation & wildlife photography.   Sandford, a native of London, ON. Canada originally established himself as a world class photographer around the ‘frozen ponds' of the National Hockey League. During Sandford's time at his Alma Mater - Toronto Metropolitan University, Sandford channelled himself into the world of professional sports photography. Sandford's work in sports quickly grabbed the attention of others & he found himself with a rinkside seat at the professional ranks before he even completed his degree.   Sandford's storied career in professional sports brought him international recognition & established Sandford early on as one of the leaders in the industry. With over 25 years of experience Sandford's work has landed him roles with sports giants such as the NHL, NBA, NFL, MLB, the Canadian Olympic Committee, Sports Illustrated and Getty Images to name a few. While Sandford still has a foothold on pro sports, these days you are more likely to find Dave face to face with a polar bear on frozen tundra or dancing with whales under the sea.   Throughout Sandford's career the call of the wild continually whispered in his ear.  Sandford's passion for nature and wildlife led Dave down a path with strong ties to conservation. In 2015 when Sandford's Liquid Mountain's grabbed the world by storm, Sandford channelled that momentum at this pivotal point in his career, to make the shift into nature photography.   Seizing opportunities in wildlife conservation, Sandford quickly transitioned into this role, once again establishing himself as sought-after leader in the industry.  Sandford turned this into his opportunity to roam where the wild things are.   Canadian to the core, and similarly to his spirit animal, the polar bear - Sandford is right at home when the mercury dips well below the freezing mark. Making his first trip to the Arctic in 1997, Sandford now has over 20 expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctica to his credit. With saltwater coursing through his veins, Sandford has also taken his photographic skills into the world's oceans, swimming alongside natures gentle giants (whales) or finding himself face to face with another of Sandford's favourite subject's, the great white shark.   Claws, paws or jaws, wide open spaces or tiny places, Sandford enjoys showcasing the beauty of our natural world, blended with exciting and insightful storytelling from his adventures both near and far. It is Sandford's hope that by sharing what he loves, others will share in that love - promoting positive change in the preservation of our wild spaces and those wonderful creatures who inhabit them. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/matt-brown57/support

Marc Grushcow has never waded into political protests before. But this year, ahead of the Winter Olympics in Beijing, the Canadian retiree—and father of Rabbi Lisa Grushcow at Temple Emmanuel in Montreal —created a video aimed squarely at his country's athletes. He had hoped to convince them to not go to China, or at least forgo the opening ceremonies, in solidarity with the country's 12 million persecuted Muslim Uyghur people, including a million thought to be held in concentration camps. But when he sent his video to the Athletes' Commission of the Canadian Olympic Committee, they declined to share it with the rest of Team Canada. They argued that athletes' attendance did not equate condoning genocide, boycotts aren't effective, in-person diplomacy is better, and speaking out may jeopardize the athletes' safety. Grushcow's video is part of a growing protest movement organized, in part, by Jewish Canadians during the lead-up to the Beijing games. He and Phil Kretzmar, a friend and political activist in Ottawa, join The CJN Daily to discuss their mission and journey to raise awareness of the Uyghur genocide. The Bill Kelly Show Podcast: There will be no two-dose or even one-dose summer for close to five million Canadians — children under the age of 12 who do not yet qualify for a COVID-19 vaccine. Advocates, who have long complained that children have been afterthoughts during the pandemic, say it is crucial they not be forgotten now, especially with so many unable to be vaccinated and the highly contagious Delta variant on the rise. Health Canada approved the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for children and youth 12 and over early in June. But approval for younger children is unlikely to come until at least mid to late fall. GUEST: Dr. Peter Juni, Director of Ontario's Science Table and a Professor of Medicine and Epidemiology at the University of Toronto - Starting late July 5, eligible Canadian travellers who are fully vaccinated and have negative COVID-19 test results and symptoms will be able to enter Canada without having to go through mandatory hotel stays and home quarantines. While non-essential business travel may soon be in the cards, Corporate Canada is not off to the airports just yet. According to Mr. King: “We're not going to run and get on a plane right away.” The pandemic has prompted many companies to reconsider their business travel strategies. According to the Global Business Travel Association, business travel in Canada dropped by 51 per cent in 2020. As restrictions ease and vaccinations speed up, business leaders are having conversations about what's next. For some, it's a restless waiting game until borders reopen. Clear goals and an unwavering commitment have the power to propel us forward. My guest today declared that he would win the Olympics in a sport had actually never done. Within 4 years, Jeremiah Brown went from first stroke to Olympic Medalist. Jeremiah Brown won an Olympic silver medal as a member of the Canadian men's eight rowing team at the London 2012 Olympic Games. A former commercial banker with a big dream, he is one of few Olympians ever to have started learning his sport only four years before winning a medal at the Olympics. After the Olympics, Jeremiah worked for the Canadian Olympic Committee as National Manager of Game Plan, an athlete wellness and transition program supporting 3000 Olympic, Paralympic, and national team athletes across more than 54 sports. Jeremiah is a Canadian sport system expert, author, keynote speaker, dad, and drummer who has played with award-winning artists. He lives in Peterborough, Canada. His book The 4 Year Olympian: From First Stroke to Olympic Medallist tells his story from barely escaping an eight-month incarceration for robbery to ten years later standing on the podium with eight other men, now a silver medallist in rowing at the London Olympics. The story of how this fiery twenty-two-year-old without a passion—“an unlit fuse”— found himself learning the sport of rowing and four years later competing at the international level is about chasing a goal with everything you've got. For me this book is about goals. What it takes to stay the course, and sticking with it even against literally painful odds. In this episode you'll learn How Jeremiah literally went from taking his first stoke to being on the Olympic National team in two years Picking a sport that is more in line with your natural build Knowing your own unique strengths Some of the major stumbling blocks Jeremiah had to overcome to get great at the sport fast Overcoming the critical voice on the way to a major goal Moving forward even when you feel not good enough and lonely The importance of being supported Modeling pursuing your goals for your children How to trust the journey How our goals can shape our identity and what the transition looks like after achieving a goal What the honeymoon phase post goal looks like And MORE
