Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer in women globally. Studies also show women living in poverty, in lower-income countries or living with HIV are disproportionally affected. The Cancer Association of South Africa says 22.2 million women aged 15 and older are at risk of cervical cancer. To unpack how this can be overcome and to promote medical inclusion for more of Africa's women, Sebenzile Nkambule spoke to Dr. Carrie Anne Minnaar from the Wits Donald Gordon Medical Centre University

Everyone should feel like a rockstar regardless of age or circumstance! Today you will meet Meisha Williams, a woman who knows how to rock life and embrace change like a superstar. I met Meisha months ago through Chair yoga. Like everyone who meets Meisha, I was drawn to her Light and Courage and Iam so excited for you to hear her story today.Meshia Williams is a 49 year old wife and mother of two sons. She has lived all over, first growing up in a military family and then being married to a military man! She's been physically active her whole life and enjoyed being an event planner, public speaker and working with raising money for the Cancer Association. Her varied jobs and activities came to an abrupt halt in 2017 when a sudden and unexplained paralysis took over her otherwise healthy body. A diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis would change her and her family's lives forever. With her world doing a complete 180-degree turn, Meshia had to rely on her faith as well as learn coping techniques to deal with her changing body and changing lifestyle. Practicing mindfulness has become not only her new way of living but it has truly saved her life.Today you will learn 6 ways Meisha is able to embrace her new path. Let go of stigmas and let go of “should's”. Let go of comparisons and have faith. Trust your gut & advocate for yourself and what you need to thrive.Decide how you want to show up. "The part I play is up to me."You can choose to focus on discomfort and pain…and the thoughts will multiply, it will consume your life and take you to a dark place and suck you down like quicksand...Or you can choose to focus on the things that you can do and bring in a positive thought for every negative one…combat the dark with the light. Become a new version of yourself and figure out different ways to exude confidence.Think of ways to keep things new and fresh regardless of what your circumstance is. It was very discouraging when she broke her legs and would have been easy to give up hope…but she used this as a new mantra “I will take a break from the known and try new things” (try new things, new restaurants, connect with new people…) when you keep things new and fresh, it keeps things light and you stay above the dark places.Did you know that Isha Warriors offers CHAIR YOGA?!! I started this podcast with the intention of sharing stories of hope. Today's guest Regina Ellis is not just a story of hope, but she is a true champion for it. In 1995, after her five-year-old daughter Alexandra died of cancer, Regina founded The Children's Cancer Association with the goal of making the world a little better for the thousands of kids just like her daughter whose childhoods are stolen by a diagnosis of illness, accident, or injury. In the past 25+ years, CCA has helped hundreds of thousands of children find their Joy—one song, one friendship, one breath of ocean air at a time. Regina believes that joy fuels innovation, fosters creativity, and has the ability to truly change lives and her goal through CCA is to do all that she can to give, get and share joy. About Regina Regina Ellis and her family founded CCA in 1995 after her five-year-old daughter Alexandra died of cancer. Along with other parents, pioneers, and dreamers she set out to create something extraordinary: an organization with a new vision for what pediatric cancer support services might look like. Today I get to drop this wonderful conversation I had with Neil Crone. I don’t think I was prepared for how relaxed and fun it was going to be to speak with Neil. I always love when I meet someone for the first time and my first thought is, “this is going to be fun!” Neil is someone who has been through his fair share of “Schtuff” but has not let his challenges darken the lens with which he views the world. Instead, he is someone who uses his experiences as a way to reach out and connect with others to shine a light on what bonds us to together as humans and propel us forward into the very things that paralyze us. Neil does this with his writing, improv, acting and motivational speaking, but I have a feeling, after speaking with Neil, it is just how he shows up in the world. Some of the things we cover in this episode are, What his biggest challenge as an artist has been, as someone who studied and performed in improv what is the most valuable takeaway he has brought with him into other areas of his life and what major change he would like to see happen in the entertainment industry. A little about Neil: Neil is an actor and writer who lives in a town so small everybody knows where everyone else’s birthmarks are. He has performed in dozens of television and radio commercials, TV shows and is the voice of numerous cartoon characters every Saturday morning, including ‘The Ridonculous Race’, ‘Ella’ and the upcoming ‘Kody Kapow!’ His most current television and feature film roles include a guest starring appearance in ‘Rogue’, ‘Murdoch Mysteries’, ‘Remedy’, ‘The Strain’, ‘One Starry Christmas’ , and the soon to be released, ‘Bon Cop Bad Cop 2’ and Stephen Kings ‘It’. He also enjoyed six seasons playing the role of Radio Redneck Fred Tupper in CBC’s hit sit-com ‘Little Mosque on the Prairie’ and two seasons of Family Channel’s ‘Really Me’. A Second City Mainstage alumnus, Neil has been performing improvised and sketch comedy for over twenty years and is the recipient of a Canadian Comedy Award for Best Radio Comedy for his work as ‘Bad Santa’ on Q107’s Derringer in the Morning. When not performing, Neil is busy writing; as an award-winning weekly humour columnist for Metroland papers, and a contributor to numerous publications including Zoomer Magazine, Ontario Out of Doors, Dogs in Canada and ACTRA Magazine. His books; ‘Semi-Colon; A Writers cheeky journey through Colo-rectal Cancer’, “Who Farted?’ – Stories in Verse for big and little kids” and “The Farmers Secret Midnight Dance” and his first collection of syndicated columns “Enter Laughing – The Early Years” are currently available at major bookstores. Neil is a cancer survivor and is a National Spokesperson for both the Colo-rectal Cancer Association of Canada and Colon Cancer Canada. He is available as a motivational speaker, focusing on the power of laughter in healing. When Neil grows up he wants to be an Astronaut. https://www.thisischelseajohnson.com/

"The person that talks and has no deeds...is like a garden full of weeds." - Unknown What's it cost to be kind? NOT A DAMN THING! So...if it's free why aren't more people practicing kindness? That's the kind of question that is best left up to asking Mr. Owl (of Tootsie Roll Tootsie Pop fame) but this week we do talk about the kindness habit with my good friend and fellow cowbell enthusiast, Allison Clarke, CSP. I've had the pleasure of knowing Allison for quite a while. She smart, funny and walks the walk. Her leadership views parallel my own (maybe that's why I like her so much). I know you'll enjoy our conversation as much as I did. Grab a cold one and ENJOY! More on Allison... For over half of her life, Allison Clarke CSP has been solving communication problems for companies and teaching the power of kindness. She’s helped professionals around the globe to break through barriers and get results that improve their productivity, profitability, and personal happiness. As a “Top 25 Master Trainer” for Dale Carnegie Corporation, Allison spent 16 years witnessing miraculous transformations. This gave her the foundation needed to launch Allison Clarke Consulting in 2011. Her client list includes Intel, Kroger, Adidas, Dignity Memorial, and Trident Seafoods. These diverse companies have one thing in common—they know the success of their companies depends on their people. Allison is the author of two books. Allison’s first book, “What Will They Say? 30 Funerals in 60 Days,” is a study of leadership and what it means to leave a memorable impact. In “The Kindness Habit,” she offers concrete steps to leave a legacy of kindness and grace. Allison graduated from Whittier College with a degree in Business Administration. In 2016, Allison earned the CSP™ (Certified Speaking Professional) designation. Less than 12% of speakers worldwide meet this criteria. It's based on track record, expertise, and commitment to ongoing education, client service, and ethical behavior. Allison was the President of the Oregon National Speakers Association and now serves at the national level. Since 2010, she’s been a volunteer and Ambassador with Children’s Cancer Association. She lives in Portland, Oregon and has two daughters. To hire Allison to speak or train your company, visit AllisonClarkeConsulting.com. The Cancer Association of South Africa ,CANSA, has expressed frustration over the continued shortage of life-saving drugs at public hospitals. The association says it keeps receiving complaints from patients who have not been receiving their chronic medicines, despite repeatedly raising the matter with hospital managers and health officials. This week, a Gauteng breast cancer patient described to SABC News how she collapsed at home, two days after the Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital in Johannesburg, failed to provide her with chemotherapy medication. Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi has confirmed the shortage of certain life-saving drugs countrywide. Wisani Makhubele reports

As some of you tuck in to your egg, bacon and sausage breakfast this morning, just keep in mind this may soon be a thing of the past. Bacon, sausage and other processed meats are now ranked alongside cigarettes and asbestos as known carcinogens. To discuss this further, Sakina Kamwendo spoke to the Head of health at Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA), Prof Michael Herbset…
