Read to Lead: Why the Best Leaders Have Their Noses in Books Are you struggling to level up your leadership game? In this eye-opening episode, we dive into the secret weapon of legendary leaders like Warren Buffett, Abraham Lincoln, and Oprah Winfrey – they're all bookworms! Our panel of coaching experts breaks down why consistent reading isn't just helpful for leaders – it's absolutely essential. Mind-Expanding Mentorship From Warren Buffett devouring 500 pages daily to the average CEO consuming 4-5 books monthly, successful leaders are consistently feeding their brains. As one of our experts points out, reading gives you access to wisdom from people you'll never meet in person - it's like having Jocko Willink or Simon Sinek as your personal mentor! No Excuses, Only Priorities Think you're too busy to read? Our coaches challenge that notion head-on. As our coaching panel reminds us, "24 hours in every day is the only thing the good Lord gave us all an equal measure of." It's not about finding time; it's about making reading a priority. Cut just one hour of screen time weekly, and you've created space for literary growth. Brain-Rewiring Benefits Reading doesn't just provide information – it physically rewires your brain. According to our experts, physically reading and taking notes creates neural pathways that strengthen memory and enhance learning. For maximum benefit, follow up with quality sleep to cement those connections! ## The Bottom Line Leaders who stop reading stop growing. If you think you've "arrived," you haven't. If you're "too busy," you're not prioritizing correctly. Make a personal development plan that includes consistent reading, and watch your leadership capabilities soar. Tune in for: • Warren Buffett's surprising success secret (hint: it involves 500 pages daily) • Why reading trumps experience alone • Practical tips for creating your own leadership reading plan • The scientific reason reading physical books beats audiobooks Stop making excuses and start turning pages – your team is counting on you!
Classical Christian education isn't just for a privileged few—it's a banquet meant for everyone. In this inspiring episode, Davies Owens is joined by Russ Gregg, founder of Hope Academy in Minneapolis and the Spreading Hope Network. Russ shares how his journey began 25 years ago with a simple but powerful question: How do we love our neighbors as ourselves, especially when it comes to education? From navigating the real challenges of urban communities to pioneering a sponsorship-based financial model, Russ explains why "the education that's best for the best is best for all." Together, they explore the crucial need for high expectations, high accountability, and high support in raising up the next generation.Plus, Russ discusses the exciting movement of school choice sweeping the nation, the importance of family habits like mealtime reading, and why true joy comes from making room at the banquet table for those who have historically been left out. If you've ever wondered how you can be part of the classical education renewal—whether as a parent, a founder, or a supporter—this episode is your invitation.

SUBCRIBE TO READING THE CITYOrder Tyler Wetherall's novel AmphibianAbout Reading the City "Reading the City" is a weekly newsletter of bookish events in and around NYC, a weekly diary of upcoming New York literary life on a need-to-know basis. No long blurbs, no reviews, just book events of all stripes. "Reading the City" links to the author's books, website, or social pages when possible. Tyler Wetherall, the founder and editor, is a believer in the power of the literary community to raise each other up, champion one another, and help make the site an inclusive and welcoming space for all writers and readers. Tyler Wetherall is a Brooklyn-based writer, editor, and teacher, and the author of No Way Home: A Memoir of Life on the Run (St. Martin's Press) and Amphibian (forthcoming from Virago). She arrived in New York from London in 2014, knowing just three people. She carried with her a manuscript she had written alone in a Victorian outhouse at the end of her mother's garden in Devon. Her entire experience of the writerly life thus far was solitary—and pretty cold. She found herself in a very special place called the Oracle Club (RIP) in Long Island City, and there she met real life authors for the first time. After staying up late and talking craft, drinking gin, and playing records, or reading poetry and howling into the night, she had found her community, and through that community the practical and intellectual resources she needed to become an author myself. The publication's over 70 freelance critics (many of them with decades of experience) cover dance, film, food, literature, music, television, theater, video games, and visual arts. There is a robust readership for arts coverage that believes that culture matters. The goal of The Arts Fuse is to treat the arts seriously, to write about them in the same way that other publications cover politics, sports, and business — with professionalism, thoughtfulness, and considerable attitude. The magazine's motto, from Jonathan Swift, sums up our editorial stance: “Use the point of your pen … not the feather.” The Arts Fuse has published over 7,000 articles and receives 60,000+ visits a month. This year they are celebrating their 5th birthday, a milestone for a small, independent magazine dedicated to covering the arts. Why The Arts Fuse? Its birth was a reaction to the declining arts coverage in newspapers, magazines, radio, and television. When the number of news pages shrink in the mainstream media, attention is paid. But the continual whittling down of arts coverage has been passed over in silence. Editor-in-Chief Bill Marx started the magazine to preserve the craft of professional arts criticism online, while also looking at new and innovative ways to evolve the cultural conversation and bring together critics, readers, and artists.Serious criticism, by talking about the strengths, weaknesses, and contributions of the arts, plays an indispensable role in the cultural ecology. Smaller, newer organizations need a response. When they are ignored as they are by the mainstream media, they fail to gain an audience. And without an audience, they fold, further weakening the entire ecosystem.Assist The Arts Fuse in their mission: to keep arts and culture hale and hearty through dialogue rather than marketing.SUBSCRIBE to the weekly e-newsletterLIKE The Arts Fuse on Facebook, FOLLOW on TwitterHELP The Arts Fuse thrive by providing underwriting for the magazine. The government and the people and the enterprises are working really hard to get people to come here and try out this country. Take the risk on Vietnam. It's fun, it's exciting. It's relatively inexpensive enough for you to start a business, and if it fails, you can try again. It's not a big deal. If you want to move your family here, the schools are great, and if it doesn't work out, you can go back to your country. But I think now is a great time, because the next 10 years, there'll be a lot of economic growth and opportunities for you to take a risk and a chance on Vietnam

We compare different ways of looking back at our past creative work - from screenplays and videos to photographs and stories. While Matt vividly remembers the emotions and intentions behind each project even years later, Alex experiences complete disconnection from his past work, seeing it almost as if someone else created it. We explore whether emotional distance helps with objective evaluation of creative projects, referencing how artists like Michael Mann and John Updike revisit and refine their work over time. This discussion of creative reflection leads us to examine how we engage with media and art in the modern world, from our relationship with smartphones and social media to rediscovering physical formats like vinyl records and books. We debate the challenges of sharing creative work online while maintaining authenticity, and discuss practical ways to balance digital consumption with more meaningful engagement through reading and real-world experiences. -Ai If you enjoyed this episode, please consider giving us a rating and/or a review. Dr. John Patrick discusses how schools have failed to introduce students to literature that feeds the soul, using C.S. Lewis as a prime example of an author whose works are underappreciated. Dr. Patrick explores the foundational role of good and evil as depicted in Lewis's "Mere Christianity" and the critical importance of instilling permanent values in children. He also highlights the erosion of social structures, particularly marriage, and the consequences of living in a society without strong moral and ethical foundations. // LINKS // Website: https://www.johnpatrick.ca/ Podcast: https://doctorjohnpatrick.podbean.com/ Biblical Literate Quiz: https://www.johnpatrick.ca/meaning-metaphor-and-allusion/ Recommended Reading list: https://www.johnpatrick.ca/book-list/ Ask Doctor John: https://www.johnpatrick.ca/ask/ LINKS: https://beacons.ai/doctorjohnpatrick

We would bond over picking out books together, reading on the same couch, and heading back to the library for more!To this day Grammy still reads a book a day! And I am so excited to bring you this conversation about the role reading has played in her life and subsequently the role that it's played in mine and other family members' as well, as Grammy's created a family legacy through her love of reading. And please join me in wishing my Grammy a very Happy 91st birthday this week, and tune into the podcast for this very special conversation!Resources mentioned on the show:Benefits of Reading Books: How it Can Positively Affect Your Life---✍ Take the Complimentary Self Care Auditwww.mskatehouse.com/audit
