Hello to you listening in Pender Island, BC, Canada!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey and your host, Diane Wyzga.I will tell you something about stories. They didn't come first. They came second. What do I mean? Our oral tradition of narratives, origin stories, creation myths, and so on - up to the present time - came about because we are a meaning-seeking people. Our ancestors looked up into the heavens, saw comets and asked, “What does this mean?” The same with weather patterns, crop failures, upheavals - virtually anything they encountered and did not understand. They created stories to make sense of things, to remember the meanings. They shared those stories with other humans to connect, to bear witness to the lives they were living. And the same is true today.CTA: What would you like to learn about the meaning and power of story? When you're ready I can help. You're invited: “Come for the stories - stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, I hope you'll subscribe, follow, share a 5-star rating and nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, and join us next time! In this episode Chris brings us Opinion Scholarship on the Creation myths of ancient Greece. We begin with an exploration of so-called "Old Europe" and a cavalcade of archeological evidence of the Great Mother Goddess religion that prevailed in the Stone Age. From there we follow Author--Robert Graves--as he reconstructs from ancient sources the oldest Creation myths of Greece; following the symbolic breadcrumbs which connect Zeus and the Olympians with the Great Mother Goddess who came before them. This takes us from Homer and the Orphics to the Bible, into Zoroastrianism and Ancient Egyptian myth, then we trip over Homer, Hesiod and Apollodorus and fall squarely into the Aryan migration theory (which we navigate tactfully). And before all is said and done, we pepper in a dash of depth psychology. Enjoy ;)

His research starts from a simple premise - if our self-awareness, the ability to look at ourselves in the mirror and declare that there is an “I” staring back, is truly unique in the animal kingdom, then it likely related to that moment of coming. But no one really knows what happened in the fog of pre-history to ratchet us from the gauzy time before we were fully human to… whatever all of this that we're living in right now could be called. In fact, this is often referred to as the sapient paradox. Why, oh why, did we become genetically modern nearly 300,000 years ago (maybe more) but take until about 50,000 years ago to start doing human things like making art, ritually burying our dead, and tracking the stars? Many have suggested it was psychedelic mushrooms that pushed us over the edge. This is the stoned ape hypothesis, which says that a sufficiently large psychedelic experience pushed us out of the womb of the earth. However, Andrew thinks it might have been something else. He figures it was snakes. And women. Together, they produced the Snake Cult of Consciousness that dragged us, kicking and screaming, into the world.(00:00) Go! Seattle Public Schools is considering closing Stevenson Elementary School amid declining enrollment. One longtime parent there is pushing back and trying to change its name to better reflect the school’s Japanese-American history. That’s the kind of opening line you might hear on Soundside if the events of the book Supersonic were real. The book is fiction, but it reflects the very real ethos of a city constantly reinventing itself through boom and bust cycles across generations. At the center of the story is Sami Hasegawa-Stalwarth, a PTA president with a deep history in the city. But Supersonic also takes us through the city’s history, to see the connections across generations. We meet a gold rush conman, aerospace workers building the Supersonic transport, a stay at home dad trying to open the city’s first legal cannabis dispensary, and the Native people who have called this area home since time immemorial. William Schaberg is the author of an important new book that's “a must read” for every 12-Step member ready to separate recovery myth from recovery miracle. This episode focuses on chapter one of Schaberg's sure to be classic Writing the Big Book titled Challenging the Creation Myths. He and Father Bill explore what Wilson referred to as “the flying blind” period before the Big Book was written. It's just one of the many myths Schaberg carefully examines as he traces the Big Book's writing through the critical eye of historical documentation. Myths are not unrealities – they're expressing truths that are often bigger than reality. You're sure to find this a fascinating and enlightening discussion.Show Notes:Writing the Big Book by William H. SchabergBill Schaberg's YouTube ChannelS. H. In a recent presentation on human-chimp similarities to LOGOS Research Associates, I made the (correct) claim that most new mutations are lost. An opponent attempted to make hay of this, claiming it disproves the 'creationist' calculations of the time to Y Chromosome Adam and Mitochondrial Eve. What he failed to understand, however, is that the Y and mt chromosomes are haploid and behave very differently to the rest of the genome. In fact, mutations occur in them in a ratchet-like manner and no degree of natural selection can change that. Do you want a lesson in population genetics? Tune in! In this episode, the Daniel and Nathan delve into Plato's creation myth and the concept of dualism, discussing how it has influenced both ancient and modern philosophical and theological thought. They explore the role of the Demiurge in shaping the physical world, contrasting it with Christian theology's understanding of creation. The conversation also touches on the effects of dualism in Neoplatonism and its impact on Christian practices, such as asceticism and views on the physical body. Finally, they talk about how Plato and Neo-Platonism have shaped Christian views of heaven and the afterlife.00:00 Introduction to the Creation Myth00:10 Plato's Demiurge and the Realm of Forms02:09 Christian Theology vs. Neoplatonism03:11 The Physical World: A Mistake or a Gift?04:38 Asceticism and Indulgence: Two Roads Diverged06:25 Sexuality and Spirituality11:27 Resurrection vs. Immortality13:36 Conclusion and Final Thoughts

The opponents of biblical creation have made some glaring errors in their criticisms of prior work on human-chimpanzee genetic differences. Specifically, several of their claims are in conflict with both theory and experiment. I document these here in detail. They have also shown a rudimentary understanding of how scientific data needs to be 'weighted' and they completely misunderstand how BLAST is supposed to work. Despite the high level of vitriol I have received so far, I submit this detailed analysis of their work for your review. Join Dave and Wayne for genre television show news, a glimpse into what the hosts are currently watching, and commentary and analysis of the Apple TV+ series Foundation. This week on the SciFi TV Rewatch podcast we discuss the complete lack of stakes when it comes to the survival of virtually all characters. Has Demerzel reinstated the genetic dynasty now that Day and Dusk have been disposed of and Dawn has run away with Serath? In our What We're Watching segment, Wayne continues to love Lower Decks and is enjoying the new season of Loki. Dave looks forward to reading the second book in the Jackpot Trilogy and finally gives the first episode of Andor a look. In Listener Feedback, Cincinnati Joe thinks the magic/super tech goes too far, and Fred from the Netherlands wonders about the convenience of the green paint Dusk uses to mark Demerzel. Alan in Minnesota quotes Arthur C. Clarke, and Alan in England thinks Hari gives in too easily to Gael's pleadings. Remember to join the genre television and film discussion on the SciFi TV Rewatch Facebook group for the latest genre television show news and podcast releases. Episode Grade: A-
This is the second installment in a now multi-part series on human and chimpanzee genetic differences. I had a lot of pushback from my last episode, including negative reviews posted by Gutsick Gibbon, Creation Myths, and Dapper Dinosaur. Unperturbed, I push on. Here, I lay out some of the arguments in more detail and discuss many of the problems people are having when using one particular program, BLAST, to assess similarity between the two species. I will address the results of Gutsick Gibbon specifically in Part 3, but this was filmed before I got most of my experimental results back. What a wild ride that was! This time we're talking about the season finale of AppleTV+'s Foundation, "Creation Myths!" Haven't seen it? Go! Watch it! Now! We'll be here when you're done! Then you can join us for the excitement! Not everybody gets out of this one alive! There are beginnings and endings, twists and turns, conclusions and preludes! Everything a great finale needs! And don't go away after this episode! Foundation season 2 might have concluded but we still have two more episodes to go in our season 4! In one week we'll have an overview of what might be called the best season of Foundation so far! And we'll open up the Stars End Mail Bag as Dave Letterman might have said. Then, two weeks after that it's the Second Not Actually Annual Hari Awards for Foundational Excellence! Be on the lookout for the polls, these are your awards as well as ours. Hmmm... "not actually annual" needs a bit of work. "Sesquiennial" is once every year and a half. Too frequent. "Biennial" means once every two years. Not frequent enough. What's once every twenty-one months? 21 months x 4 = 84 months which is Seven Years, So, how about Semi-Semi-Septennial? That will have to do. But never mind that right now! You want to hear about the Season Finale! I know you do! Let's go!

It's the season finale, baby! Is the finale tricksy and false, or is it a well woven tapestry that brings together the threads of season 2? Demerzel has become a formidable foe for those who would trigger her defensive programming. But maybe there's a way to logic your way around it. So many things go wrong in order for them to go right. The Babylonian Enuma Elish, also known as The Seven Tablets of Creation, is one of the oldest surviving creation myths. The story narrates the epic battle between the god Marduk and the primordial goddess Tiamat, which resulted in the creation of mankind and the establishment of an enduring order in heaven and on earth. No one alive today "believes" in this myth. The cuneiform tablets containing the poem were lost for centuries. Nevertheless, Marduk exerts considerable influence over the world-dominating cultures today. In this episode, I tell you the myth, provide some historical context, and consider the role it has--and might yet-- play in the ongoing creation of cultureSupport the showEmail Catherine at drcsvehla@mythicmojo.comPost a positive review on apple podcasts! In this special edition of the podcast Bart interviews Joseph Lam, an expert on the languages, religions, and cultures of the Ancient Near East (and Bart's colleague at UNC), who has just produced a Wondrium Course on the Creation Stories in the Ancient World. Among other things they talk about the reasons for thinking Genesis contains two very different creation stories (side by side) and how other older stories from Mesopotamia appear to have influenced the author(s) of Genesis.

If multiple disparate cultures recorded similar stories of the world's beginning, isn't it possible these ancient peoples derived clues from the nature around them about the world's actual beginning?
The first few chapters in Genesis are some of the most hotly debated in Christian circles. What did Moses intend for his readers to understand when he penned the Bible's creation narrative? What did he know about the creation myths of the surrounding nations, and how might that impact our understanding today? In this episode of White Horse Inn, Michael Horton, Justin Holcomb, and Bob Hiller model charitable disagreement as they represent and discuss different interpretations of Genesis 1 and 2.
