Sophia Dew and Sofia Puccini are joined by Ruby Thelot, designer, artist, cyberethnographer, professor at NYU, and founder of 13101401, for a wide-ranging conversation about internet culture, AI, digital communities, and how technology is reshaping the way we relate to one another. Drawing on years of research into online behavior, Ruby explains how digital cultures form, why algorithms shape more than just what we see, and what AI is changing about creativity, communication, and identity. They discuss cyberethnography, online subcultures, "machinic taste," AI companions, social norms, internet language, and why Americans often say they dislike AI—even as they increasingly rely on it in everyday life.   Resources: Follow Ruby X: https://x.com/being_on_line Substack: https://beingonline.substack.com/ Follow Sophia on X: https://x.com/sophiadew Follow Sofia on X: https://x.com/schisofrenia Follow MTS on X: https://x.com/mtslive Stay Updated:Find a16z on YouTube: YouTubeFind a16z on XFind a16z on LinkedInListen to the a16z Show on SpotifyListen to the a16z Show on Apple PodcastsFollow our host: https://twitter.com/eriktorenberg Please note that the content here is for informational purposes only; should NOT be taken as legal, business, tax, or investment advice or be used to evaluate any investment or security; and is not directed at any investors or potential investors in any a16z fund. a16z and its affiliates may maintain investments in the companies discussed. From Plaid Cymru, Chief Whip and Cabinet Member for Culture and Sport Heledd Fychan joins us in the studio. Cai Parry-Jones, Reform's finance spokesperson gives his take on how things are going so far for his party. Culture is loud, identity is fragile, and the church can drift without noticing. We sit down and get honest about what's been forming us lately, from family seasons and ministry travel to what we're seeing in students who genuinely want “the things of old” back, especially manners and respect. That real-life thread sets up a deeper spiritual question: if we say we follow Jesus, what does our life actually reflect? We walk through 1 Corinthians 11 with the kind of pastoral clarity that doesn't aim to impress, but to restore. Paul's warning to Corinth still lands today: when the church absorbs the idols and categories of the world, we stop reflecting Christ and start mirroring whatever we used to serve. We talk Christian identity, image-bearing, and why labeling ourselves by politics, success, status, or any identity above Jesus quietly breeds pride, comparison, and division. Then we move to the communion table, where Corinth's rich believers humiliated the poor and turned the Lord's Supper into something harmful. Communion is meant to pull us back to the cross, back to unity, and back to a serious moment of self-examination. We close with prayer, repentance, and a clear invitation to surrender what we've been carrying so we can live with clarity and peace in Christ. In this episode, Minter Dial engages in a profound conversation with Preeti D'mello, whose life and work revolve around the pursuit of fulfilment, both individually and within organisations. Drawing on an upbringing steeped in spiritual seeking and a career spanning major corporate environments, Preeti brings a unique blend of Eastern philosophy and Western psychology to the discussion, unravelling what it truly means to live and work with a sense of purpose. The conversation focused on how fulfilment is not merely a personal aspiration, but a functional human capacity and a systemic necessity for modern organisations. A key theme that emerged was the need for workplaces to facilitate wholeness—what Preeti refers to as “purna”—moving beyond superficial rewards and performance metrics to foster genuine belonging, care, and engagement. The discussion explored the practical tensions leaders face, balancing business performance with human development, and unpacked the ways in which vulnerability, complexity, and imperfection can actually catalyse stronger cultures and higher achievement. Several points were raised, including actionable frameworks for leaders to measure and nurture fulfilment, the importance of structured yet bold conversations to reveal the true state of organisational culture, and the responsibility organisations hold in supporting not just output, but the deeper capacities of their people. The episode also ventures into the rapidly changing needs of younger generations entering the workforce, examining the impact of parenting, resilience, and the pursuit of meaning in a world saturated with external distractions. Whether you're a seasoned leader striving for a thriving culture or an individual wondering where to begin your own journey toward fulfilment, this episode offers practical guidance and a refreshingly holistic perspective on what it takes to achieve wholeness—in work and in life. Listen in as Minter Dial and Preeti D'mello challenge traditional narratives and illuminate new pathways to sustainable, meaningful success.

He shares why even the most advanced technology cannot compensate for an undefined sales process or inconsistent leadership. The conversation also explores the growing role of AI, automation, lead scoring, buying signals, and meeting transcripts. Jason offers practical strategies for reducing administrative work, improving follow-up, and helping sales professionals spend more time doing what matters most—building authentic relationships with their customers.KEY TAKEAWAYSShift your CRM mindset from reporting to revenue generation.Technology cannot fix a broken or undefined sales process.Consistent follow-up builds trust and protects customer relationships.Leaders must model CRM adoption and create accountability across the team.Lead scoring and customer insights help prioritize the right opportunities.AI and automation should reduce administrative work—not replace relationships.Ongoing coaching and reinforcement are essential for long-term CRM success.Strong CRM habits improve consistency, productivity, and sales performance. The best CRM is the one your team actually uses every day.HIGHLIGHT QUOTESSelling from the heart is being authentic, honest, and genuine. The tool alone isn't going to solve the problem.I've never met a salesperson that doesn't want to follow up.Software doesn't solve problems. We look at what effective CPR requires, why people hesitate and how a small amount of training - whether it's 15 minutes or a couple hours - can be the difference between life and death in a high-pressure moment.

When Seth Rogen bragged on a podcast, "Thank God we don't have children," the audience didn't just laugh. They cheered. Seth isn't an outlier. He's a data point. CDC numbers show nearly half of American women around age 30 are childless. That's not an accident. It was built this way. Culture pathologized family and monetized isolation because a single, lonely woman who thinks kids will ruin her life is the most profitable customer on earth. In this episode, I'm calling out the multi-billion-dollar industries making a fortune off women who trade a real legacy for cheap "autonomy." A civilization that looks at a child and says, "Thank God you're not mine," has lost its will to live. Having kids and taking on responsibility isn't a burden. It's the ultimate act of rebellion.   Follow me - I'm chronically online Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/kristanmercerhawkins/ X - https://x.com/KristanHawkins Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/HawkinsKristan/ TikTok - https://www.tiktok.com/@kristanmercerhawkins

The culture of the Yurok tribe in Northern California is deeply intertwined with the Klamath river's salmon. So, when toxic conditions caused by the dams on the river resulted in a massive fish kill, the Yurok people sprang into action and secured the historic removal of four dams, a story captured in The Water Remembers: My Indigenous Family's Fight to Save a River and a Way of Life.   Also, on July 13, 2026, President Trump issued a proclamation reducing the Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante national monuments in southern Utah by about 90 percent, to remove almost 3 million acres from monument status. We discuss the significance of these places to several local tribes who co-manage them, and why in their view the President lacks the authority to slash monuments.   And on Mars, our planet's rocky twin, NASA's Perseverance Rover is seeking signs of past life, and now scientists say they may have uncovered some of the most compelling evidence yet, in the form of complex carbon molecules in Martian mudstones.
