Most people don't have what it takes to be an entrepreneur. (That's actually not a bad thing.) They dream of having enough money to live in total financial freedom, but when the reality strikes, and it's time to toe the line, they fall short. Why does this happen? I had the honor of interviewing John Lee Dumas, founder & host of Entrepreneurs On Fire, who boldly answers this question and many more. John was an active-duty officer in the U.S. Army (spending time in a war zone in Iraq), where he developed an insane level of discipline and mental fortitude at quite a young age. He is definitely no stranger to overcoming challenges that seem impossible and uses those skills strategically in his business. In this episode, he discusses his new book, The Common Path to Uncommon Success: A Roadmap to Financial Freedom and Fulfillment, in which he lays out a 17-step roadmap to unlocking your greatest potential and creating a life of total fulfillment. (He even talks about some of those steps during the interview—one of which will blow your damn mind!) John has identified the common foundational principles successful entrepreneurs share that allow them to achieve uncommon success, and he dives deep into some of these in our interview. He also boldly goes where not many people are willing to go, and that is bringing to light that not everyone has what it takes to be an entrepreneur and how that isn't a bad thing! As you listen to this incredible interview, you will learn: The importance of the “Zone of Fire” and how to identify yours How being a “challenger” can help you reach massive success What 3 specific things John Lee has done better than most entrepreneurs The one thing that I attribute to my own high efficiency My #1 goal in life (this might even shock you) What John thinks about the idea that money cannot buy happiness John acronym for F.O.C.U.S (this is fantastic) He also shares how he generated $100,000+ net profit for 90 months in a row (which you can learn about in more detail in his book, which is now available for pre-order). I can't wait for you to hear this! Young Creators Podcast: Behind the Product met Rens Gingnagel
Welcome to Big Idea Tuesday! On today’s Broken Brain Podcast, our host, Dhru Purohit talks about the power of quitting and letting go.When’s the right time to let go of something? A relationship, a project, an investment?Seasoned investors have this great question for determining whether or not they should hold onto an investment. The question goes a little something like this: “If I wasn’t already invested in this business, would I invest in it today, knowing what I know?” Feel free to replace business with relationship, project or friendship. The beauty of this question is that it cuts through the rationalization tactics that our mind uses to deal with our fear of loss. Sometimes we’re so scared of losing something, or admitting that it isn’t working, that it’s easier to pretend that it isn’t an issue than it is to deal with it.The challenge with pretending is that it just prolongs the inevitable pain and, more importantly, makes it harder to genuinely turn things around. When’s the right time to let go? I’m not sure there is an easy answer. But one thing that I think would help answer that question is if you notice that the main reason you are holding onto something is primarily because you’re afraid of losing it.For more on Dhru Purohit, be sure to follow him on Instagram @dhrupurohit, on Facebook @dhruxpurohit, on Twitter @dhrupurohit, and on YouTube @dhrupurohit. For leaders, when our aspirations and passions align, a crucible is formed from which creativity and productivity stem. At this point in our entrepreneurial journeys we might burn a little brighter, and our way forward feels undeniably palpable. Riding the tide, we may begin to feel ourselves cresting the wave and entering a place where the water becomes muddy and our paths unclear. We’ve entered the dip, and suddenly find ourselves in a quit it or stick with it moment where we must determine how we want to walk through this world. On this episode of the Reboot Podcast, Jerry is joined by friend, entrepreneur, author and speaker, Seth Godin. In this conversation, Seth and Jerry seek to tackle the dip, asking us to consider what is actually happening when it occurs, reminding us of the importance of finding our allies during this time, and how living in the tension of unknowing can actually be the catalyst for attuning our understanding to the most authentic way forward – in our companies, our relationships, and on our own personal paths. Spontaneity worked well on this conversation. We even had my cousin on this episode. It wasn't planned, but it was an awesome time. The conversation still generally revolves around focus, and we dive into fear and failure. Questions of the Conversation: 1. What do we do when we feel fear, potential failure? 2. When did you start noticing you were risk adverse? 3. Did you ever deal with rejection as a kid? 4. What's your favorite song? We're continuing to knock down personal walls. Discovering, uncovering, being honest to be able to move forward with goals we want to accomplish. Speaking of being honest, The Dip was written by Seth Godin. Somewhere around the 30 minute mark I (Andy) say Simon Sinek, please forgive me. I'm still working on trying not to get ahead of myself. Continuing... Hurricane Harvey still remained at the center and around the conversation. The effects will be around for a while, I hope everyone does something to help the cause.
