How do you feel about what that means about the show's place in the MCU?   We had the freedom to place it whenever. I want to tell you the very first scene, there was a crossover, and the very end scene, there was a crossover. But as the story developed and we kept changing the scripts, we felt like, “We don't need that.” All of us. It was a collective decision. And then I kept thinking: It's a rule. There has to be a scene at the end that connects us to the MCU. But I think they decided, “You know what, the surprise is that there isn't, and what's going to make this show unique is it doesn't need anything else.” The best compliment we get on the show is when people tell us, “This doesn't feel like a Marvel show. It feels like a standalone show that feels more dramatic, more dark, grounded.” I feel like we succeeded in bringing Marvel more to our corner. So, so proud and happy.   Disney+ X-Men Producer on the Pressure of Bringing Back the Mutants (Exclusive) https://thedirect.com/article/x-men-disney-mutants-exclusive In an exclusive interview, The Direct's Russ Milheim got to sit down with Moon Knight writer Beau DeMayo, also the head writer and executive producer of the upcoming X-Men '97 animated Marvel Studios series on Disney+, to discuss the differences of working on both projects and the general pressure of reviving the Mutants with Marvel Studios.   The writer noted that the process is "no different" from "a studio and process standpoint," but that the "X-Men, in particular, is something that is very close to Marvel Studios' hearts:"   “From a studio and process standpoint, no different. Kevin [Feige], Brad Winderbaum, Dana [Vasquez-Eberhardt] who's working with us on this, who are our producers, they have the same level of involvement. I know in some studios, animation is treated like the red-headed stepchild and, honestly, What If…? and Marvel's other animated series are treated just as seriously as their live-action properties. And X-Men, in particular, is something that is very close to Marvel Studios' hearts, now that it's back home at the studio. So that has been different.   DeMayo noted that he feels a "weight and a responsibility" given that this is Marvel Studios' first go at an X-Men-focused project:   "It's just like, X-Men means something to a lot of people. There's a weight and a responsibility there, I think, now that it's back at Marvel Studios, that is very different, and that I'm always aware of. The funny difference is more sleepless night, because on Moon Knight, if something didn't go right, [I was like], ‘well, Jeremy [Slater] is is writing the show, so at the end of the day he'll have to [figure it out].' There have been several moments where I'm like, ‘Someone needs to figure this out—oh, it's me now.' [laughs] So, there's been a lot of growth, I'd say, that I've had to do on X-Men ‘97. Feige also spoke about some exciting projects in the works, including a mysterious 3D movie. He then revealed that he'd just returned from an in-person retreat with the other heads of Marvel Studios, where the team mapped out what's coming to the big screen in the next decade. "In the next 10 years, with existing characters and new characters and new storytelling tools with the multiverse, anything can happen," Feige said.   Feige also revealed that the retreat featured a giant board "that takes us through the next decade [of films] and they are unique and special and they are meant for your theaters." The overall tone of the presentation was one in celebration of the rebound of movie theaters after the blow the industry took during the first year and a half of the COVID-19 pandemic. He cited the theatrical success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which brought in $1.89 billion globally and netted a reported $610 million in profits. While Marvel Studios is also building out its television offerings on Disney+, Feige promised its biggest stories would still be hitting theaters, meaning Black Widow's day-and-date streaming release will remain a fluke.   Of course, Feige didn't reveal just what Marvel Studios has in store over the next decade, but fans eager to learn more about Phase 4 and beyond have plenty to go on. Beyond the confirmed big and small screen titles, like Thor: Love and Thunder, She-Hulk, The Marvels, Blade, and Fantastic Four, the MCU will reportedly see a Nova/Richard Rider film in the future, with Moon Knight writer Sabir Pirzada attached to tackle the script. This may or may not be separate from a reported cosmic Marvel film that recently popped up on a production listing.   More concrete but without any firm release date or details is the arrival of the X-Men in the MCU. Feige has made no secret that mutants are coming now that Disney owns the film rights to the Marvel characters once controlled by Fox, but there's been no hint as to when they might pop up on the big screen. Aside from providing a concrete start date for shooting on Echo, the post (in particular, a card attached to the bouquet) has also fueled speculation that Jacobs is part of the Disney+ series' cast. Jacobs' involvement with Echo is purely speculation at this stage.   While this recent update confirms that the production is starting to gain momentum, Marvel Studios and Disney+ have remained largely tight-lipped about Echo. Little is known about the plot of the series, although Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige previously divulged that Echo will pick up immediately after Hawkeye. "[T]he Echo series will be -- we see Maya Lopez go from the end of this series into that series will be the next direct link," Feige explained.   Filming permit applications filed by Echo's location manager Ryan Schaetzle also confirmed that the show won't share Hawkeye's New York City setting. These applications were made to two small towns in Georgia, Grantville and Social Circle, and were ultimately successful. Echo will film in Social Circle in April and Grantville in May, with the scenes involved said to be devoid of "explosions, gunfire, or big stunts."   Arguably the biggest news surrounding Echo is a recent leak that allegedly spoils the inclusion of two major MCU characters in the series. The resume for the show's costume designer Stacy Caballero appears to have unwittingly revealed that both Daredevil and Kingpin will return in Echo, even though actors Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio are not officially attached to the production.   Cox last appeared as Daredevil's alter-ego Matt Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home, while D'Onofrio reprised the role of Wilson Fisk/Kingpin in several episodes of Hawkeye. The pair originated these roles in the Daredevil series that originally aired on Netflix and now streams on Disney+ alongside the other entries in the so-called "Defenders Saga." While Thor is alone in the comics, the shot from the trailer is an almost exact recreation of a panel that appeared in Thor: God of Thunder Vol. 1 #3 as the third part of the God Butcher arc. Fans took to reddit and other online platforms to share their frustration and also reached out to Disney.   Disney+'s response, as relayed by customers online and verified by sources to Deadline, is that the purge of episodes was accidental, due to a technical issue. Following the backlash, the two memorial tributes once again adjoin these two series in "The Defenders Saga."   Whether these series will see any sort of revival remains to be seen. Not only does the report detail all three seasons of his Netflix adventures, but it also mentions that "Sometime later, Matt was hired as an attorney to defend Peter Parker."   Here's the excerpt of the important part:   Soon after, Matt attended the funeral for Father Lantom, where he made peace with Sister Maggie. Now in a better state of mind than he had been in quite a while, Matt fully reconciled with Karen and Foggy and the three of them discussed the idea of reforming their law firm with Karen now as the firm's lead investigator and third partner.   Sometime later, Matt was hired as an attorney to defend Peter Parker, as Peter had been publicly outed as Spider-Man and accused of Mysterio's murder. Though Peter was legally cleared of any wrongdoing, Matt warned him he'd still have to face the court of public opinion and advised Harold “Happy” Hogan to hire a good lawyer. As if on cue, a protestor threw a brick through the window of the Parkers' apartment in support of Mysterio. Fortunately, due to his heightened senses, Matt was able to catch the brick before it hurt anyone inside. The "In Loving Memory of Stan Lee" tribute is now replaced with a prolonged black screen before the credits.   The reasoning behind the removal is unknown, but a prevailing theory is that the scene preceding the tribute has Frank Castle gunning down a group of people. The outlet notes that it isn't known at this point if the project is being developed as a Marvel Studios film or a TV series, but just earlier this month, reports emerged that Marvel was moving forward on a new space-themed project, with it being possible that a Nova TV series is that secretive project. Instead, Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead will helm a number of episodes for Season 2 after tackling several for Moon Knight. And as it turns out, the directing duo finds their similar status in the MCU appealing. "We know that the thing that appeals to us about Loki and Moon Knight specifically, it's just among the MCU, they feel like outsiders," Benson said. "And there's something about that that we really relate with."   Because both characters are outsiders, their shows allow the creators behind the shows to push the boundaries of superhero storytelling. Early Moon Knight reviews have positively pointed to this unique nature, and Season 1 of Loki was widely praised for its idiosyncratic approach to the MCU. And according to Moorhead, the only reason Loki and Moon Knight were even able to get made is thanks to their atypical energy.   "I think the biggest thing about Loki is just that it's actually a lot like Moon Knight, where there's just no reason to do it if it's not going to be something new and fresh," Moorhead said. "[What's] funny is, it does feel like Marvel would be willing to walk away unless it actually is something that they felt the unexpected. Like from Moon Knight, and especially because Moon Knight is a character where nobody knows almost anything about him yet. Soon to be changed, right? And so our gloves are off and we get to kind of do whatever we want. And everybody at Marvel and ourselves gets really excited when we are presented with the unexpected. We also, of course, hope that people watching feel the same way and we're gonna bring all that to Loki."   Disney+ is restoring Falcon and the Winter Soldier after alternate cut was uploaded to platform https://ew.com/tv/disney-plus-restoring-falcon-and-the-winter-soldier-alternate-cut Sharp-eyed Marvel fans watching The Falcon and the Winter Soldier on Disney+ this week noticed something a bit off: Some of the more violent scenes in the superhero series appeared to be edited to tone down the content.   While some assumed this meant Disney+ was censoring violent content on the streaming platform, perhaps due to the new parental control options made available to subscribers, EW has learned that an alternate version of the show had been uploaded by mistake. Disney is currently working to fix the issue.   The Direct was one of the first on social media to point out the discrepancy.
