Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universesBrad Winderbaum, head of streaming, television, and animation for Marvel Studios, caught the attention of Defenders fans when he shared that Marvel is exploring bringing back the rest of the Netflix Defenders actors and characters; Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones, Mike Colter as Luke Cage, and Finn Jones as Iron Fist. Winderbaum indicated that the studio is excited about this possibility, but there are a lot of variables that will determine the success of pulling it all together. While this is fun to hear as fans, other Marvel TV is taking a pause. Though sources say these projects were never officially greenlit, Deadline reports that Nova, Strange Academy, and Terror, Inc. are not currently being developed. This is mostly being attributed to Marvel's shift to traditionally-run television shows. But in confirmed news, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Jon Bernthal will star in a Marvel Studios Special Presentation featuring The Punisher that will air in 2026 alongside the second season of Daredevil: Born Again. On Monday we were treated to the surprise drop of the full Andor season 2 trailer from Lucasfilm. In a very un-Star Wars-like fashion, the high octane footage is set to The Revolution Starts Now by Steve Earle and reminds viewers of how acclaimed the first season was. The drop shared more interesting news; the 12-episode season will be dropped in increments of three episodes at a time for four weeks. Phew!DC's duo of James Gunn and Peter Safran took time to have a press event last Friday where they updated us, the people, on where things are going with DC Studios. It's been just over two years since the big film and television overhaul with DC was announced, with Gunn and Safran taking control of the franchise. Gunn reiterated their desire to bring new stories to life with these characters. The updates included the following: Supergirl is halfway through production, Lanterns began production last week, Clayface will be directed by James Watkins and is eyeing a fall 2026 release, Sgt. Rock, still being directed by Luca Guadagnino, no longer has Daniel Craig attached and is looking for its new star, and the animated Robin movie, Dynamic Duo, is in pre-production. Lastly and perhaps most importantly, Gunn had some comments on The Brave and The Bold that some are taking as confirmation that Robert Pattinson will not be the DCU's Batman, with the filmmaker saying,“It's certainly not the plan.” And Safran added, “And we love him, but we've got to introduce a Batman into the DCU. That's imperative. And so that's the plan with The Brave and the Bold.”The James Bond movie franchise is going through a shake up, with Amazon MGM Studios and Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli forming a new joint venture to house the movie property's intellectual property rights. Under the terms of the agreement, Amazon MGM Studios will gain creative control of the James Bond franchise, while Wilson and Broccoli will remain co-owners of the 60-year-old property. In 2022, Amazon acquired MGM. Since the MGM acquisition, Amazon has held rights to distribute all of the James Bond films, and following completion of the joint venture transaction will control the creative on future productions.Season two of The Last of Us finally has a premiere date. The seven-episode season of the drama will debut April 13 on HBO. That means the season will complete its run in late May, just under the wire for Emmy eligibility this year.Jack O'Connell and Delroy Lindo, who will both star in Ryan Coolger's upcoming film Sinners, have joined the cast of Legendary's upcoming Monsterverse sequel to Godzilla x Kong.Kitao Sakurai, perhaps best known for writing, directing and exec producing The Eric Andre Show, has been tapped to direct Street Fighter, Legendary Entertainment's feature adaptation of the classic video game from Capcom.

Hello and welcome to Bill vs the MCU! Each month your hosts Pop Break Podcasts Editor Alex Marcus and Pop Break Editor in Chief Bill Bodkin take another step into the wider Marvel Multiverse, with reviews and interviews on the film and television series that may be drawn upon as the MCU dives deeper and deeper into its Multiverse Saga. After completing their twelve month rewatch of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Alex and Bill are fully embracing the ethos of the MCU's Multiverse Saga with miniseries devoted to all the MCU-adjacent material out there. Currently, the pair are taking a guided tour of the Netflix Defenders-verse, featuring reviews of select seasons of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage, along with this universe's crossover event The Defenders. To help us celebrate the finale of this season of Bill vs. The MCU, we have invited WatchMojo's Derick McDuff on to the pod. He is currently the host of the film podcast Underrated, where he and his co-hosts discuss underrated films, but he also is the host of an MCU-review podcast called Infinity Stones and Dragon Bones, where he has been keeping up with new installments of Marvel TV and Film since 2018. We'll get into his experience covering both sides of Marvel and why he chose to invoke the big McGuffin of The Defenders in his show's title. Alex and Bill also discuss The Marvels' trailer, Guardians vol. 3 box office, Blade's delays, Coven of Chaos' leaks, and more in a new edition of their monthly segment Miss Minutes Marvel Memo, where they try to cram in a month's of MCU headlines in five minutes! Cathey Tributes Following Backlash https://www.cbr.com/disney-plus-punisher-luke-cage-stan-lee-tribute-restored-marvel/ Disney+ has restored tributes to the late Stan Lee and Reg E. Cathey in The Punisher and Luke Cage, respectively. Earlier in April 2022, it was discovered that the streaming service had removed the two tributes from their respective appearances in the second season finales of The Punisher and Luke Cage. When fans caught wind of the decision, they were displeased, to say the least. Following the backlash, the two memorial tributes once again adjoin these two series in "The Defenders Saga." Whether these series will see any sort of revival remains to be seen. For a moment, it seemed that Daredevil was officially canon to the Marvel Cinematic Universe being that Matthew Murdock's live-action biography on Marvel's website was updated to include both the events of the series and the character's appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home. However, Marvel has since removed the mention of No Way Home from Murdock's television timeline. While Daredevil star Charlie Cox is rumored and reported to reprise his role in numerous upcoming MCU projects, there is no word on whether actors Mike Colter and/or Jon Bernthal will return as Luke Cage and Frank Castle, respectively. Bernthal did react to The Punisher landing on Disney+, but there has been no word from the actor on whether he has been asked to return any time soon. As for Colter, the actor revealed back in late 2020 that he had not been approached about returning, but that he'd "love to." ‘Moon Knight' Directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead on Joining the MCU, Helming Episodes 2 & 4, and ‘Loki' Season 2 https://collider.com/moon-knight-directors-justin-benson-aaron-moorhead-interview-loki-season-2-disney-plus/ Marvel's ‘Ironheart' Finds Its Directors While Ryan Coogler Boards as Executive Producer https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/marvel-ironheart-show-directors-ryan-coogler-1235128280/ Ryan Coogler and his production banner, Proximity Media, have joined the creative team of Ironheart, Marvel's Disney+ series featuring the titular Iron Man-adjacent character. At the same time, the show has firmed up its filmmaking talent, hiring Sam Bailey and Angela Barnes as directors. Dominique Thorne is toplining Ironheart, playing Riri Williams, a brilliant teenage inventor who, in the comics, builds her own version of the Iron Man suit in an MIT dorm. Disney+ Removes The Defenders' Post-Credits Punisher Teaser https://www.cbr.com/disney-plus-removes-defenders-punisher-teaser-marvel/ The Defenders on Disney+ seems to be missing its post-credits teaser for The Punisher. When the show originally aired on Netflix, The Defenders featured a teaser trailer for The Punisher as its post-credits scene. The trailer saw Frank Castle/Punisher (Jon Bernthal) using a sledgehammer to smash his logo into concrete while revealing footage from the show. As Twitter user Ian Cardona notes, that teaser for The Punisher no longer appears at the end of The Defenders. CBR has verified that this change was made in both the Canadian and American markets. The crimping in windows, which of course impacted the star's bonus, led to the twice-Oscar-nominated actress suing Disney and settling for a reported $40M+. Adding to the further erosion of box office for any theatrical-day-and-date release on streaming is the fact that these movies are pirated promptly, with clean 4K copies in several languages spread around the world. The recent reintroduction of Netflix's Daredevil's Matt Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home and Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin in Disney+'s latest Hawkeye series has not only surprised fans, it also brought about the inevitable question – are the current versions seen this year the same ones from the Netflix series from 2015, or are they variants? Thankfully, actor Vincent D'onofrio, who played the infamous Marvel Comics villain across three seasons of the Netflix show, is ready to set the record straight, and appease fans attempting to connect the dots – yes, the Kingpin audiences see in Hawkeye is the same villain from Daredevil. “He obviously has more physical strength and can take a lot more physical abuse but from story point of view, it was discussed that this is after The Blip, that he is the same guy that was in Daredevil, but he's lost some of his power,” explained D'onofrio in an exclusive interview with Geek Culture. “My arc in Hawkeye is that I want my power back, so from an actor's point of view, it's portraying him exactly, with the same kind of emotional feel and foundation that I did in Daredevil.” Fans were teased early on, when his character was referenced in episode 3 of Hawkeye when Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox) was told that her uncle would come pick her up after taekwondo lessons. His character was later confirmed in the final moments of episode 5. The confusion stems from the fact that the multiple seasons from the Netflix series of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Punisher and The Defenders were initially identified as part of the MCU, but the characters and storylines were never referenced in the movies, and after the shows were canceled, fans began to speculate that Marvel Studios had no intention of recognising them, until now. D'onofrio portrayed the villain in 27 episodes of Daredevil, and also appeared in The Punisher. The Kingpin's fate was left open ended after the third season of Daredevil was canceled with a cliffhanger. This confirmation from D'onofrio answers many questions fans have been wondering for the last three years – that he lived, and after leaving prison during The Blip when Thanos made half the population in the universe disappear, spent that time rebuilding his empire, and that the Kingpin is the same character across all the MCU shows. The return of Kingpin wasn't only an exciting affair for fans, but also for D'onofrio, who never imagined returning to the character after three years. He certainly didn't expect to start off this year with a phone call from Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige either. “Very early in the year, they reached out, Kevin actually. Kevin called me and invited me to do Hawkeye. And you can imagine, I was extremely excited about that,” said D'onofrio. Returning to a different set with the same character also proved to be a stimulating experience for the veteran actor, whose credits include acclaimed turns in Full Metal Jacket, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, especially when it came to reuniting with co-star Vera Farmiga, who played Eleanor Bishop in the series. While he technically only appears in two of the six episodes, D'onofrio has powerful scenes with Maya Lopez and Kazi (Fra Fee), as well as a massive showdown with Hailee Steinfeld's Kate Bishop in the final episode. “Vera, I've worked with before so I know that she's a wonderful actress and so good. I'm always so impressed by her, and then with Hailee, I didn't have a lot of dialogue but that fight scene was very technical and I was really impressed with her work ethic and she just seems like such a powerhouse on set,” he continued. “And then with Alaqua and Fra, the two of them are both amazing actors and actresses. I love to be impressed by young people and I was definitely impressed. You know, it was really quite something, to be around young people with that kind of work ethic and that kind of talent. It inspires me. It was a wonderful thing.” While Hawkeye has now allowed Kingpin to face off with other heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, D'onofrio does have a wish list of which hero he wants to meet face-to-face, and top of his list is everyone's favourite webslinger. “I think because of the history of the comic books when I was a kid – Punisher, Daredevil and Spider-Man. My hope is that someday, I get to face all of them as the character of Kingpin. I think that would be nice.” Although the season finale hints at the ending of Kingpin's story once and for all, D'onofrio doesn't know what's in store for the future but is hoping that it's not actually the end, and that he can continue to play the character till his heart's content. “I don't know. I can only hope that we do it,” smiled D'onofrio. “I think that would be great, and I think we just all have to keep our fingers crossed that it happens.” Oh trust us, our fingers are crossed alright. [22:51] ‘Wandavision' Is The Most Pirated TV-Show of 2021 https://torrentfreak.com/wandavision-is-the-most-pirated-tv-show-of-2021-211225/ ‘Wandavision' is the most-pirated TV show released in 2021 on torrent sites. The popular Disney+ series decrowned 'The Mandalorian' which topped the chart last year. 'Loki,' another Marvel series, is listed in second place and 'The Witcher' completes the top three. At the end of every year, we take a look at the most-downloaded TV episodes among torrenting pirates. For several years in a row the list was headed by Game of Thrones but that reign came to an end last year after the series ended. This changing of the guard coincided with the launch of several Disney+ exclusives, which do particularly well among the pirating public. Last year ‘The Mandalorian' was the most pirated TV series and in 2021 another Disney title tops the list. ‘Wandavision' seamlessly took over the top spot in a list that is dominated by Marvel series. The series was a hit on Disney+ and on pirate sites, with each episode being downloaded millions of times. The competition for the top spot was fierce with four titles clearly standing out among the rest. Disney's “Loki” eventually settled for second place, one spot higher than Netflix's “The Witcher.” ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier' settled for the fourth spot but wasn't too far off in popularity compared to the top three. What stands out most is that all Disney+ series of Marvel's “Phase Four” are listed in the top 10. In addition to the titles already mentioned, also included is ‘Hawkeye' in fifth spot and ‘What If…?' in sixth. With the current streaming landscape being so fragmented, it appears that many people prefer to pirate instead of paying for ‘another' subscription. That definitely applies to Marvel fans. Update: Our calculations are based on single episodes which means that season packs are underrepresented which disadvantages series that are released in one go. Based on rough calculations, Netflix's Casa de Papel could taken the 5th spot. Squid Game would have made it into the top 10 as well. We will do our best to reflect this correctly in future lists. It's worth noting that BitTorrent traffic only makes up a small portion of the piracy landscape. Most people use streaming sites and services nowadays, which generally do not report viewing stats. Below we have compiled a list of the most torrented TV shows worldwide and released in 2021 (single episode). The ranking is estimated based on sample data from several sources, including I Know and statistics reported by public BitTorrent trackers. Rank Last Year 1 (…) Wandavision 2 (…) Loki 3 (…) The Witcher 4 (…) The Falcon and the Winter Soldier 5 (…) Hawkeye 6 (…) What If…? 7 (…) Foundation 8 (6) Rick and Morty 9 (…) Arcane 10 (…) Wheel of Time [27:04] Hawkeye Blooper Reel Reveals Deleted Scenes, More Kingpin Footage https://www.cbr.com/hawkeye-blooper-reel-reveals-deleted-scenes-more-kingpin-footage/ (On Disney+) The two-minute-long reel now streaming on Disney+ has a decidedly sitcom-like feel, introducing each of the cast members to the tune of "Sweet Gingerbread Man" sung by Sammy Davis Jr. While there's no audio apart from the song for most of it, there's still plenty of evidence that Hawkeye was just as much fun to shoot as it was for audiences to watch. The clip opens by introducing Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/Hawkeye and Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop and shows the pair laughing it up together in a car. The more villainous characters on the show also get their time in the spotlight, with Fra Fee pretending to share a kiss with Tracksuit Mafia thug Aleks Paunovic and Alaqua Cox enjoying her time as Maya Lopez/Echo. Additional footage shows Yelena Belova actor Florence Pugh and Eleanor Bishop actor Vera Farmiga sharing some laughs while filming various scenes for the series. Along with shots of cast members breaking characters and enjoying their time on set, the gag reel includes a handful of deleted scenes centered on Jack (Dalton). One depicts the talented swordsman in what appears to be prison clothes and standing against a metal mesh fence, while another has him brandishing his signature sword in the kitchen, as seen in Episode 6 ("So This Is Christmas?"). The reel also features an over-the-shoulder shot of Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin in his white coat sitting in a restaurant. In a coy nod to Marvel's vaunted secrecy, even the gag reel attempts to keep D'Onofrio's arrival on the show a surprise by redacting the actor's name in the title card. Netflix Defenders [30:39] Jessica Henwick on MCU Return As Iron Fist: "Never Say Never" https://comicbook.com/marvel/news/jessica-henwick-marvel-iron-fist-mcu-colleen-wing-return/ Jessica Henwick was offered a role in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings but she turned it down. The actress took a job with The Matrix Resurrections, instead. Henwick's Matrix gig has her fans cheering for various action beats and story moments as she teams up with returning franchise veteran Keanu Reeves but there is also a large camp of her fans hoping to see more of her in the Iron Fist role. As the story goes, Resurrections was not the only reason Henwick did not join Shang-Chi. The actress is interested in getting another crack at her Colleen Wing character and seems quite open to the idea of becoming the Iron Fist herself. A return for Henwick from her role in the Marvel TV-controlled Iron Fist series for the Marvel Studios-controlled Disney+ shows or movies doesn't seem too unlikely. Vincent D'Onofrio and Charlie Cox were both recently revealed to have reprised their roles as Kingpin and Daredevil, respectively, from their Netflix shows. "He's so good," Henwick said of D'Onofrio. "And yeah, Charlie Cox is out there doing his thing." As for whether or not Henwick will be reprising the role, it seems there is no news on that front yet. When asked if she would be interested in portraying the MCU's Iron Fist, Henwick didn't exactly dismiss the idea. "Look, the way we left Iron Fist, spoiler alert, Colleen has the power and she's in a really good place," Henwick told ComicBook.com. "I would love to revisit her. That character meant a lot to me and really changed my life. And I would love to revisit her one day, but it would really have to be the right place, and the right time, and the right script, but never say never." Henwick portrayed Colleen Wing in Iron Fist, The Defenders, and an episode of Luke Cage. It's not entirely clear just yet if the Marvel stories told on Netflix shows are canon to the main continuity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe which is controlled by Marvel Studios. D'Onofrio tells ComicBook.com that he was instructed to play his Kingpin the same way as he did on Netflix's Daredevil when he appeared in Hawkeye, though there were notable physical differences in the character which might be explained through by the gap in time since he was last since in 2018 before appearing in Hawkeye, which is set in 2024 at the earliest. After being a part of the Matrix franchise, Henwick might even have a few new moves to show off in the Marvel Cinematic Universe should she get the call to return. "[The Matrix Resurrections felt like an amalgamation of all the different bits of training that I'd had over the years with so many amazing coordinators and instructors," Henwick explained. "But really what was new for this time around was the work I had to do with guns. I had almost no real, hardcore weapons experience. And we had an amazing trainer, Rock, who made me feel really safe and tried to encourage me to just feel like it was an extension of the hand, that I was one with it. Because if you look at Keanu, I remember the first time on set with my gun, he just came over and inspected it. And there's an effortless aspect to it that I really wanted to emulate." Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. [35:09] Agents of SHIELD Fans Rally To Save The Show https://comicbook.com/marvel/news/agents-of-shield-save-the-show-fans-rally/ Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. fans want to save the show and are making their presence felt on Twitter. Seeing the renaissance of older characters being brought into the fold through Spider-Man: No Way Home and Hawkeye, people have started a hashtag surrounding the ABC series. This is nothing new for the SHIELD fandom who battled for respect in the latter part of its run. However, recent events have to make the fans feel a little better about their prospects. Who among us thought we would see Charlie Cox grave a Marvel production again? Probably, only the most ardent believers. But, here we sit in the year 2022 with dozens of reports about his involvement going forward. It's a wild time to be a fan of comic book movies and shows. So, why not try and get one of your favorites back on the board with a social media push. Chloe Bennet shared her support for the fandom last year as people wondered if they could see her in the MCU as a part of Secret Invasion. "I definitely would," Bennet told Looper of a possible return. "I mean, I have such a soft spot for her. I started shooting the show when I was 20, and then I finished when I was 27. To get this time right now, in isolation, to kind of contemplate the past seven years and how much it's meant to me — it hasn't really hit me yet that the show is over, so it doesn't really feel like I'm done playing her yet." She added, "I think once the last episode airs and the show is really out of my life, I think that will be an interesting feeling. But I can never say never. I mean, Coulson's died like 800 times. I don't think I realized when I first auditioned for the role how much this entire entity, how much this character, how much this universe and how much SHIELD was going to be just a part of me for the rest of my life. I definitely would be open to playing her again. But I have not been asked to, so... But, listen, 'Coulson Lives' started on Twitter, so who knows?" But not all are celebrating: 'Nightmare Alley' found coal in its Christmas stocking. Sony and Marvel's Spider-Man: No Way Home spun a record-breaking web in its box office debut, grossing $260 million from 4,336 theaters to secure the second-biggest domestic opening of all time at the box office despite growing worries over the COVID-19 omicron variant. Monday's final number of $260 million came in ahead of Sunday's estimate of $253 million to supplant Avengers: Infinity War as the No. 2 launch ever, not adjusted for inflation. Overseas — where the new variant is even more of a concern in certain markets, and particularly in Europe — the movie also made history, grossing $340.8 million — likewise an uptick over Sunday's estimate of $334.2 million — for a revised global total of $600.8 million (without China). That's the No. 3 global opening ever, not adjusted for inflation. “This weekend's historic results, from all over the world and in the face of many challenges, reaffirm the unmatched cultural impact that exclusive theatrical films can have when they are made and marketed with vision and resolve,” says Sony Motion Picture Group chair-CEO Tom Rothman, who has remained a huge proponent of an exclusive theatrical release. Spider-Man: No Way Home set numerous other records as moviegoing returned to pre-pandemic levels for the first time in a defining moment for the box office recovery. Hollywood, however, would feel much better if the wealth were being spread around. Even as No Way Home prospered, Guillermo del Toro's Nightmare Alley became the latest adult-skewing title to sorely disappoint, with a fifth-place weekend opening of $3 million despite a well-known director and A-list cast. And Steven Spielberg's West Side Story tumbled a steep 67 percent in its second weekend, furthering the narrative that midrange movies and adult-skewing films are an endangered species theatrically amid the rise of streaming. No Way Home is the first film in the COVID-19 era to zoom past $100 million in its domestic launch (until now, the biggest start was just $90 million). There's more: The tentpole has already grossed more than any pandemic-era release has earned in its entire run domestically, a list topped by Marvel's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings ($224.5 million). The Sony and Marvel movie was buoyed by a coveted A+ CinemaScore, moviegoers ages 18-34 and glowing exit scores, including a “definite recommend” score of 90 percent. (Rivals say the exits are “unreal.”) Spider-Man also attracted an ethnically diverse audience and did huge business in Imax theaters, which turned in $36.2 million globally, the No. 6 showing of all time in terms of Imax weekend openings. Avengers: Endgame leads the list of all-time domestic openings with $357 million, followed by Avengers: Infinity War ($257.6 million), Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($248 million), Star Wars: The Last Jedi ($220 million) and Jurassic World ($208.8 million), not adjusted for inflation. Internationally, No Way Home is also shattering records despite omicron, which is prompting cinema closures and other restrictions in certain European markets. The movie grossed more than $180 million between Wednesday and Friday alone. No Way Home, reuniting director Jon Watts and star Tom Holland, is from Sony's Columbia Pictures, which controls the film rights to Spider-Man, and Disney's Marvel Studios, home to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Watts' film combines three generations of Spider-Man movies and includes previous villain actors Willem Dafoe (2002's Spider-Man), Alfred Molina (2004's Spider-Man 2) and Jamie Foxx (2014's The Amazing Spider-Man 2). It also stars Zendaya, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jacob Batalon, Marisa Tomei, Jon Favreau and Benedict Wong. Dec. 20, 8:15 a.m. Updated with Monday actuals. Well, in an update on that story, we can tell you that the reshoots are wrapping this week. And we've also learned that part of the reshoots may have been spurred by the new Spider-Man movie and the Disney+ Loki series, both of which deal with the multiverse. It seems like Marvel was jazzed by the many actors crossing paths with each other in No Way Home and the playfulness of having alternate versions of characters appear onscreen in Loki. So they decided to have “more fun with the multiverse,” according to one source, and to include more cameos and character introductions in Doctor Strange 2. Will these cameos become MCU canon? Only time, and maybe Kang the Conqueror, will tell. ***************************** The reshoots for Doctor Strange 2 include even more cameos from across the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the introduction of new characters as well. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will include more cameos and introduce new characters to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as it undergoes reshoots. According to The Hollywood Reporter's "Heat Vision" newsletter, the reshoots for the Doctor Strange sequel will include even more cameos and character introductions than originally intended. While the characters themselves haven't been confirmed, sources report that the film will have "more fun with the multiverse" following the success of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness began "significant" reshoots in November, with Sam Raimi returning to direct the additional material along with writer Michael Waldron, who served as head writer for Marve's Loki Disney+ series. Raimi took over directorial duties from Scott Derrickson, who directed the first film and departed the sequel in September 2020 over creative differences. Star Benedict Cumberbatch, who portrays Dr. Stephen Strange in the MCU, previously stated that the reshoots will only improve the film. "I'm very excited. Sam Raimi's at the helm, so expect extraordinary things," Cumberbatch said. "And we're in the middle of making it even better. We've got some reshoots coming up in November and December." In a separate interview, Cumberbatch stated that the reshoots were largely a result of logistical issues and restrictions caused by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. "We're in the middle of reshoots and we're working incredibly hard to make a schedule work to realize the full potential of the film -- bits that we want to do better but also bits that were just impossible to do on the day because of logistics, COVID, etc," he said. "We were so delayed in production because of that. Luckily, not during production too much. Although everything is just a little slower." As for cameos, a new line of action figures for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness offered a first look at the possible introduction of Rintrah to the MCU, an alien minotaur that appeared in Marvel Comics as one of Doctor Strange's apprentices. It was also confirmed that Elizabeth Olsen will reprise her role as Wanda Maximoff/The Scarlet Witch, as the events of WandaVision will tie in directly to the sequel. Olsen wrapped filming on her Doctor Strange reshoots in September. Details surrounding the plot of Doctor Strange 2 remain scarce, though the potential for new characters is vast with the MCU's growing multiverse. Actor Xochitl Gomez is set to make her MCU debut in the film as well, as the Young Avenger America Chavez/Miss America. The MCU faithful were primed to expect the arrival of Natasha Romanoff's assassin sister Yelena (Florence Pugh), since Black Widow's post-credits scene outright set up a conflict between her and series lead Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) over her sister's death in Avengers: Endgame. And more recently, the show's audience started theorizing about the identity of a mysterious underworld boss, teased in recent episodes. Episode 5 of Hawkeye, “Ronin,” ends the speculation with a single cell-phone picture, confirming the identity of the boss who seems to be behind the story's main action. British director team Bert & Bertie, who helmed Hawkeye episodes 3, 4, and 5, recently spoke to Polygon about getting the chance to bring that character in. The image of Vincent D'Onofrio as Wilson Fisk, aka underworld crime lord Kingpin, at the end of “Ronin” has big implications for the MCU going forward, since D'Onofrio played the character in the Netflix series Daredevil. Bertie says she and her directorial partner didn't learn their episodes would be bringing Kingpin back until they were already in production. “That was as exciting to us as it was to the fans, knowing what everyone else would feel,” she says. “It's like, ‘Oh my goodness, these worlds are now able to meld, and there's this extra layer that can come into the the MCU that had previously been separate.'” His brief appearance seems to finally confirm that Netflix's Marvel shows — Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and the crossover miniseries The Defenders — are still canon to the current MCU. (In spite of what Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has said in the past.) That suggests Daredevil and Hawkeye take place in the same version of New York City. But Bertie says Marvel Studios didn't tell the directors to look back at the older series for visual inspiration or design consistency. “There was never any kind of requirement or need to meld Daredevil and Hawkeye in any way,” she says. As far as portraying Kingpin goes, Bert says they made their directorial choices around Kingpin's past reputation and presence. “I think you just respect the character, and where the character is in the universe,” she says. “So when Kingpin comes in, he's massive, you know? He's huge. As the story goes, he's later in a more difficult place, but he comes in as his big self, with his big hands. In that picture [at the end of “Ronin”], you see him in his iconic suit. So how to shoot him came from where the character is, rather than us trying to match our universe to anything in the past.” As far as whether the shows are meant to feel similar, Bert says they do have roughly the same aesthetic. “But we deal with the character story more. Rather than dealing with the the universe they come from, they step into ours.” Similarly, the duo didn't look back to Black Widow to see how to frame or design Yelena — they took cues from Pugh instead. “In terms of consistency of character, Florence had a lot to say about what Yelena might wear to her first proper meeting with [Hailee Steinfeld's] Kate Bishop as a human, rather than as an assassin character,” Bertie says. “So there's a thread of character that runs through.” She says that in setting up episode 5's awkward, extended sit-down between Kate and Yelena over macaroni and cheese, they mostly wanted to respect how different the characters are. “Obviously, this incredibly off-the-wall character that Yelena is was super fresh to the MCU,” Bertie says. “That was something we celebrated. We wanted to see how Kate — naive, wide-eyed, super-smart, fierce, badass in her own way, but learning this whole world — and this very dangerous character, come together. In terms of directing, Marvel are brilliant about encouraging directors to be themselves, to set up the kind of shots we needed to tell this weird yet intimate yet funny story, this emotional girls' night between two very kick-ass women, just being normal, and a bit insecure, and all of these things women in their 20s can be.” ‘Raya and the Last Dragon' Leads 2022 Annie Awards Feature Nominations What If…? “Ultron Won” Nominated for Best Editorial, Television and Media https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/annie-awards-raya-and-the-last-dragon-leads-2022-nominations-1235065364/ https://deadline.com/2021/12/annie-awards-nominations-2022-raya-and-the-last-dragon-encanto-luca-flee-1234899864/ Best Editorial – TV/ Media Amphibia Episode: True Colors Walt Disney Television Animation Jennifer Calbi , David Vasquez, Julie Anne Lau, Yoonah Yim, Andrew Sorcini Arlo the Alligator Boy Episode: Broadcast Special, Netflix Presents A Ryan Crego Film Steve Downs Love, Death + Robots Episode: Pop Squad, Blur Studio for Netflix Julian Clarke, Matt Mariska, Valerian Zamel, Brian Swanson, Ky Kenyon Tom and Jerry in New York Episode: Billboard Jumble, Warner Bros. D'Onofrio's Kingpin, aka Wilson Fisk, was teased at the end of Episode 5, but the sixth episode sees him step out of the shadows and take on the heroes. And D'Onofrio thanked fans for their enthusiasm about his return to the character following the cancellation of Daredevil on Netflix. "Hello, everybody. Welcome to the season finale of Hawkeye. This is a great show. A lot of effort was put into it by Marvel, by the film crews, the producers, the writers, and all the actors," D'Onofrio said in his message. "So, I hope you enjoy it. And thank you for being so patient waiting all this time for my character. I so appreciate the warm welcome. So enjoy yourself. And Merry Christmas." The thread also features messages from Hailee Steinfeld (Kate Bishop), Jeremy Renner (Clint Barton), Fra Fee (Kazi), and Tracksuit Mafia actors Piotr Adamczyk (Tomas) and Carlos Navarro (Enrique), the latter of which sang a "bro"-filled rendition of a Christmas classic. D'Onofrio arrived to great acclaim as Fisk on the first season of Daredevil, adding new layers to the comic book villain. He'd continue to vex Matt Murdock during his show's three-season run, and fans have long been hoping to see the actor and character pop up in a film or new TV show. While the canon status of Marvel Netflix shows is unknown, Kingpin has officially arrived in the modern MCU. Of course, his fate in the finale is left a mystery, with Maya seeming to shoot him offscreen. But as the moment was inspired by a comic that saw Kingpin survive, and given how long fans have waited for the actor's return, it's safe to assume he won't be gone for long. NETFLIX DEFENDERS Jessica Henwick Discusses Colleen Wing's Possible Marvel Future https://www.superherohype.com/movies/509494-jessica-henwick-discusses-colleen-wings-possible-marvel-future It turns out the role she was up for was of Shang-Chi's sister Xialing, which ultimately went to relative unknown Meng'er Zhang. But had she taken such a major role, with clear spinoff potential, it would have definitely meant no more for Iron Fist‘s Colleen Wing. Marvel has double-cast some actors before, like Mahershala Ali and Gemma Chan, but in every instance, one of the characters was either minor or died. And Henwick didn't want Colleen Wing to go that way. “If I did [Shang-Chi], I would effectively be putting Colleen to bed,” she revealed. “It wasn't the main factor, but it definitely came up in conversation. I love Colleen. She changed my life. Of course, if I was given the opportunity to revisit her, I would, but I just don't know how likely that is…I think I would have heard by now if there were any plans with Colleen.” The Marvel shows on Netflix began as canon with the movies, then later became unofficial. However, Marvel Netflix characters coming back as new versions of themselves in the MCU seems to be a new trend. Vincent D'Onofrio just returned as Kingpin, and Kevin Feige recently talked up Charlie Cox's Daredevil. According to Henwick, though, those actors knew for quite a while. “Charlie knew about that opportunity years ago. He already knew it was happening,” she says. His casting indicates that Mr. Townsend is acting as a photo double on that production for the iconic 80s actor: Bill Murray. Murray's role at this time, however, is currently undisclosed. The actor spoke to ACE Universe about the show, which has yet to land a release date on the streaming service. Announced back in December, Armor Wars will adapt the popular Marvel Comics story with a twist: Iron Man won't be part of it. Instead, the series will explore the Armored Avenger's best friend and sidekick. "Well, I think that the most exciting part is yet to come," Cheadle said. "I think we don't really have a super-strong idea of who he is really outside of that, sort of, bubble of the Avengers. Out of necessarily his friendship with Tony. And now he's going to kind of be untethered from all of that. So it's an opportunity to really discover who he is in a way that we have not had before; with concentrated time and focus on Rhodey and Rhodey's journey, and with, hopefully, some stuff about his past. And teeing up some things about his potential future. Who knows how long this Marvel thing goes. It seems kinda unending. We might all die on set one day." "What's most exciting is yet to come, and I think those kinds of things were hinted at in Endgame, you know, where this character might go, and things that may be in the offing for him," Cheadle continued. "It's very early in the process of Armor Wars. We just hired my boy Yassir [Lester], which I'm very excited about, [he] wrote on Black Monday. [I've] become really good friends with him and close with him. Great guy. A lot of great ideas. But honestly, we're just really trying to crack the spine of what it's going to be and chop it up. I couldn't really give you the answers if you asked them because we're super in the clay mode right now." Series executive producer Laurence Fishburne (Ant-Man and The Wasp) will voice the recurring role of The Beyonder, a curious and mischievous trickster. It will be one of the first projects by the recently launched Marvel Studios Animation and will star see Seth Green reprise his role as the title character. Additionally, Disney is set to officially reveal the show at their Disney+ Day event on Nov. 12 and it is due to release in 2024. This should all be taken with a grain of salt, since the source makes the validity of the claim questionable. NETFLIX DEFENDERS [34:40] Steven S. DeKnight Exits Marvel Citing C.B. While this news made headlines in 2017, DeKnight -- who's largely preoccupied with his film and television work -- only recently learned about it when it began making the rounds again on Twitter. "How does this man still have a job? Completely unacceptable," DeKnight tweeted. "I had no idea. I love writing for Marvel comics, but this changes the equation. Drastically. Shang-Chi earned a total of $34.7 million domestically according to Box Office Mojo in its second box office weekend falling only 54% from it's premiere weekend. Shang-Chi has now earned $144.5M domestically and $259M worldwide. In comparison Black Widow fell 68% in its second box office weekend but benefited from a healthy $60M from Disney+ premiere sales in its premiere weekend. Other Disney second-weekend drops have been varied, with “Jungle Cruise” shedding 55%, “Cruella” 49% and “Free Guy” 35%. Universal's “F9,” another pandemic box office success, opened to $70 million in June and dropped 57% to $30.1 million in its second frame. Pre-pandemic Marvel releases have traditionally held well in their second weekends: “Avengers: Endgame” declined by 59%, “Captain Marvel” by 56%, “Thor: Ragnarok” by 54%, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" by 56%, “Doctor Strange” by 50% and “Ant-Man” by 57%. “Black Panther” enjoyed the most slight second-weekend drop in 2018, with just 45% after opening to a massive $202 million over Presidents Day weekend. The strength of Shang-Chi's Labor Day weekend opening seems to have inspired Disney to commit to debuting its remaining theatrical releases exclusively in theaters for the rest of the year, including Marvel Studios' Eternals. Disney announced that the rest of its domestic release slate for the year will honor a theatrical window ranging from a minimum of 30-45 days per film although the 30 day window only applies to Encanto according to the exclusive reported by Variety. The term “minimum” seems to point to the fact that Disney could extend that 30-45 day window should they prove to be hits and there is an audience to attend in person. Marvel Announces Four Unknown Films Scheduled for 2024 https://collider.com/new-marvel-movies-coming-in-2024/ Walt Disney Studios has updated its upcoming release schedule, which now includes four untitled Marvel films dated for 2024. These include newly announced films scheduled for February 16th, May 3rd, July 26th, and November 8th. Marvel has previously announced all of its movies on the way through Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, scheduled for May 5, 2023. After Guardians, there are still three other untitled Marvel films planned for the year, however, the addition of four more unknown Marvel films in 2024 and their release dates is entirely new. Possible films to fill those slots that are currently in development and without a known release schedule include Fantastic Four Deadpool 3 Blade Avengers-Level Team up to end the phase (not confirmed in development) Could be linked to Russo Brothers story from last week Captain America Sequel Possible X-Men MCU – Non-Marvel Studios Sony Won't Send Any Major Blockbusters Directly to Streaming Platforms https://www.cbr.com/sony-no-major-films-to-streaming/ Sony Pictures Entertainment CEO Tony Vinciquerra is insisting Spider-Man: Far From Home, Venom: Let There Be Carnage and other blockbusters will retain their theater exclusivity window and not go straight-to-streaming. "There is a higher bar theatrically to get films into theaters so you will probably not see as many films going directly to theaters," Vinciquerra said during a media conference. He conceded that some of Sony's smaller films might not be viable for theatrical release in the current climate but promised, "We have about 12 to 15 major films a year distributed to theaters and will do the same going forward." Vinciquerra pointed out the rise in piracy rates since other studios decided to implement day-and-date streaming releases, labeling it "a big concern" moving forward. The executive noted that Sony is in a unique position as it does not have a streaming service of its own, instead acting as an "arms dealer" in the ongoing streaming wars, able to put its content up for auction. He was quick to clarify, "But you won't see our major films go that way." Sony recently changed the name of its Spider-Man franchise from the Sony Universe of Marvel Characters to Sony's Spider-Man Universe, suggesting it has larger plans for the web-slinger moving forward. With rumors hinting at a live-action Spider-Verse crossover, the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home could potentially bridge the gap between Sony's animated and live-action Spider-Man franchises by incorporating Miles Morales. Writer Regrets One Thing About Doctor Strange Episode https://screenrant.com/what-if-doctor-strange-episode-4-writer-regret/ "When you're writing animation, you're writing so far into the future that you can't think four years down the line. That Doctor Strange episode, I wrote in February of 2019. I think I should've called it a Nexus Point instead of an Absolute Point. The Loki scripts weren't even written yet, so that animatic locked before Loki even finished their scripts because you're always writing about two years ahead of animation. It's kind of intense and insane." MCU – MARVEL STUDIOS Disney Boss Values “Flexibility” With Day-And-Date Release Model; ‘Shang-Chi's 45-Day Window “An Interesting Experiment” https://deadline.com/2021/08/shang-chi-disney-theatrical-day-and-date-bob-chapek-earnings-1234813885/ Disney CEO Bob Chapek continued to emphasize the flexibility of the studio's controversial theatrical-day-and-date Disney+ Premier model given the uncertain times of Covid. “We value flexibility in being able to make last-minute calls,” Chapek said during Thursday's earnings call to discuss Disney's Q3 earnings, without indicating any other future dynamic window releases beyond the studio's recent summer handful of Cruella, Black Widow and Jungle Cruise. “Certainly when we planned we didn't anticipate the resurgence of Covid,” he added, also indicating that there's “nothing in stone” in regards to the distribution prospects of the studio's future theatrical titles. In regards to 20th Century Studios' Free Guy respecting a theatrical window this coming weekend, Chapek acknowledged that the Fox title acquired in the merger came with a previous distribution agreement from which Disney couldn't veer. As Deadline indicated today, we heard that Disney kept Free Guy theatrical due to a previous pay-one agreement with HBO; that's the reason it couldn't send the Ryan Reynolds movie to Disney+ Premier, which is the upper tier of the streaming service where subscribers can purchase current theatrical titles for $29.99 each. As far as the theatrical window for the upcoming Labor Day weekend release of Marvel's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Chapek called the 45-day frame for the pic before it hits Disney+ “an interesting experiment,” and “another data point” for the studio as it juggles theatrical releases with its streaming service. I'm running my new game - Hit the Streets. It's a hack of 1%er, the Outlaw Biker Game from Creepy Doll Studios. This game is for street-level super teams, folks who fight villains in neighborhoods rather than across the globe. We'll create a neighborhood in New Gauntlet City, figure out what your team fights for and against, then dig into their lives and struggles. Think of the Netflix Defenders show, not the Avengers movies. ----------------------------------- This game is part of the ongoing Gauntlet Comics series. Characters and settings created in this miniseries will exist in the Gauntlet Comics canon (and on our wiki) for future miniseries.

Daredevil Series 1 was the first of the Netflix Defenders series and debuted in 2015. The 13 episodes take us on a journey through Matt’s origin and early days as the Guardian of Hell’s Kitchen. He goes up against a crime syndicate led by the Kingpin. Daredevil first appeared in Daredevil #1 in 1964 and was created by Stan Lee and Bill Everett, with some input on character design from Jack Kirby. Though he carried his own book for 2 decades, it was in the early 1980’s that Frank Miller truly defined the character we know today and his stories provide a significant influence on this Netflix series. Some series details:IMDB rating: 8.7Rotten Tomatoes Audience: 95%Series Creator: Drew Goddard There are SPOILERS So if you havent seen the movie please go see if and then come back for the review. A special guest stops by the studio to help us recap Marvel's Defenders on Netflix. Ironfist and Luke Cage get a second chance to be less one-dimensional.
Maybe the best intro recorded (yet) for Dream Warriors - Marc is sitting down to have a discussion on Netflix's Defenders series along with just about everything else geek. Oh, and Pete rants about politics.

J and Mike welcome GameZone's own Cade Onder for a MoF debut, he's joined us on our Frak Podcast many times. In our third episode, we cover a plethora of topics and some of those lead to some fairly heated discussion and debates throughout the show. Some of the items covered are as follows: • DCEU and the woes of Batman, the misfortune of Superman, and the fury of the Mantis Shrimp (the latter of which is funny as hell and interesting, you might learn something). • Trials and tribulations of the Han Solo film •Shark with Tourettes?!? •Netflix Defenders- did this show deliver and bring back the successes and excitement of the TV side of MCU? •The line in sand has been drawn, shots have been fired- Breaking Galactica coming soon. Thirty-two tiny punches and a big stab! In a shortened episode (because they've moved the Power Rangers review to a separate special, admin fans), Nick and Alastair quickly cover some classic material, with H.P. Lovecraft's The Call of Cthulhu and Wes Anderson's The Darjeeling Limited. Then it's into less-than-classic territory with Marvel's latest Netflix/Defenders series Iron Fist (7:01), before recovering with excellent comedy-horror liberal nightmare movie Get Out (23:52). Lastly, what did Alastair think of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (35:13)? Is it good for anyone, or did Nick's love of comedy music blind him to the truth?
