This podcast episode is a part of the REV x Farmer's Footprint Regenerative Podcast Series! Today in the thirteenth episode of our regenerative podcast series in collaboration with Farmer's Footprint, we are speaking to David Leon, co-founder of Farmer's Footprint and Biome Capital! David shines a light on the side of regenerative agriculture that we often wonder about don't always get a full understanding of – the economics of regeneration. We are so grateful to be able to talk to David and have him help us understand the truth of how climate change and the cost of living crisis are affecting farmers and how, during these desperate and dire financial times, it is possible to take steps towards regeneration. David speaks of fascinating and debatable concepts such as placing monetary value on ecosystems and animal species in order for insurance companies and large corporations to take notice and account for them. As well as not working against but empathising with conventional farmers to turn what we already have into something positive and generative for all. So just a little bit more about the work of Biome Capital and David's role there. Biome invests capital in farmland equity in a model that allows growers to acquire new land or retain both an ownership interest in their land and the ability to manage their operations with relative autonomy. They meet a grower wherever she or he is along the spectrum of transition to regenerative management, and partner in a way that is supportive but not prescriptive. Biome Capital Partners also invests additional capital outside the farm gate to benefit farmer partners (for example, in processing infrastructure or relevant AgTech). They seek to build regional regenerative ecosystems, and part of our investment mandate is to improve the economic and emotional health of their farmer partners and their community. Today in the twelfth episode of our regenerative podcast series in collaboration with Farmer's Footprint, we are speaking to Richard Christiansen, founder of the world-famous Flamingo Estate! Richard shares his upbringing on his parents farm in rural Australia to his migration over to London and consequently New York to become a highly influential luxury brand designer and creative director. This podcast episode is a part of the REV x Farmer's Footprint Regenerative Podcast Series! In the tenth episode of our Regenerative Podcast Series in collaboration with Farmer's Footprint, we speak to Todd White, founder of Dry Farm Wines! Dry Farming means instead of using artificial irrigation methods, farmers rely on natural water resources to ripen their fruit. This means the roots of the vines grow deep to find a natural water source. It is better for the planet, better for the vine, and produces nutrient rich fruit! Todd shares his journey of combining his interests of bio-hacking and luxury wines and why dry farming is undoubtedly the future of growing health-conscious wine and regenerating the earth at the same time! Todd White developed the Dry Farm Wines Certification for finding the purest Natural Wines on the planet. This included a strict set of criteria: only organically farmed, sugar free, additive free, lower alcohol, lower sulfite, lab tested wines. It was from this personal journey that Dry Farm Wines was born. Todd set out to share more of these pure Natural wines with the world, and to educate people on what is really in their wine. Dry Farm Wines offers a range of wines that are deeply researched and conveniently curated into selection boxes that allow you to experience the best health and planet conscious wines the world. This podcast episode is a part of the REV x Farmer's Footprint Regenerative Podcast Series! For the seventh episode in our regenerative podcast series in collaboration with Farmer's Footprint, I got to go to LA and speak to husband and wife duo, Christy and Aras, of Christy Dawn – a regenerative fashion line that is doing more to make their brand sustainable than almost any other line I can think of in the industry. Their commitment to a better planet and human experience is palpable and I can't wait to share this conversation with you all, but first a quick thank you to our sponsors of today's episode. This Podcast episode is brought to you by our friends at EcoCart, Vivobarefoot and Milky Oat! “So to Christy and Aras and the story of Christy Dawn. I was lucky enough to get to do this podcast in person at their beautiful store on Abbot Kinney in LA. Christy and Aras started the Christy Dawn line in order to help women feel beautiful and comfortable in an array of dresses that they began making locally in LA with deadstock fabrics. As the brand evolved however, they knew they could be doing more – they wanted to heal the land more than simply do no harm. This led them to a partnership with Oshadi Collective, an incredible regenerative farm in India that is growing, processing and creating some of the most sustainable fabrics on earth. This is a story of a couple who have put their passion and ideologies into creating something bigger than themselves, and Christy Dawn has gone from regenerating 4 acres to over 80 in the course of just a couple of years with the Farm to Closet collections. My conversation with them is incredibly honest, at some points surprising, and mostly a tale of the power of one couple to make an incredible impact on the fashion industry, but also people and the planet. **This episode is brought to you by MuteSix, FenixCommerce, and EcoCart** “To raise the cultural perception of the value of Mexican goods” that's the purpose behind Nopalera. In part 1, we have Sandra Velasquez, Founder of Nopalera, a Mexican botanical bath, and body line. Sandra went to a music school, led a band called Pistolera (see them on NPR's Tiny Desk), and has been a musician her entire life. After losing her day job, she came to realize that she could continue her mission of sharing her culture not just through music but through launching a consumer brand. **This episode is brought to you by MuteSix, FenixCommerce, and EcoCart** Few people understood the benefits of organic food, but that didn't deter Matt McLean from pursuing his dream of creating a top-selling organic orange juice brand. Matt is the founder and Chief Uncle at Uncle Matt's Organic, America's No. 1, selling organic orange juice. Matt grew up in the citrus industry in Florida, where the business was passed on from generation to generation. Determined to make his mark outside of citrus, he went to college to study business, and after graduating, he started an import-export business. But when he saw an opportunity for organic juice in the United States, he couldn't resist. So, Uncle Matt's Organic was founded in June 1999. **This episode is brought to you by MuteSix, FenixCommerce, and EcoCart** To be consistently great tasting - that's the number one goal of Uncle Matt's every single time. In the second part, Matt McLean, founder of Uncle Matt's Organic, tells that they learned the old-fashioned way through hard work. The brand became the largest fresh fruit shipper of citrus by convincing growers to transition to organic. But 2014 to 2016 were tough years for them because of citrus greening disease. The business collapsed, leading him to sell the company. Today, the brand is trying to find methods to cure the greening issue while maintaining its organic mission. Matt says that Uncle Matt's Organic is not just about orange juice. In part 2, Matt talks about: * Becoming a huge fresh fruit shipper in addition to juice provider. * What the citrus greening disease is and how it affected his company. * The decision to sell the company. * The myriad of products at Uncle Matt's Organic. * What the secret is to success. Little Wine is an online wine content platform focused on organic plus and climate positive growers. Little Wine also has an online bottle shop and wine club, with carbon neutral shipping. Since their founding in April 2020, they have offset 100+ tonnes of CO2 to date. According to German nonprofit Atmosfair, that’s around 100 round trip flights from London to New York City. Christina and Daniela talk how they chose EcoCart and a water purification project in Cambodia for their carbon neutral shipping program, where they have prevented 25,000 trees from being chopped down to date. We also talk about the future of wine distribution, and how they are inspired by fashion brand Organic Basics and Jancis Robinson.Instagram: @littlewine.co @winecarbonara @christinarasmussen_ Website: https://littlewine.co/
