Sam Smith and Andrew van de Burgt are joined by Nissan's Sacha Fenestraz to review a spectacular Rome EPrix that saw several twists in the hitherto close 2023 title battle. Jake Dennis emerged as the clear favourite after winning the second race on Sunday, with his joy accelerated by the fact his two most direct championship competitors collided on the second lap. Also discussed is the catastrophic accident triggered by Sam Bird losing control of his Jaguar and the near misses that ensued, particularly for Antonio Felix da Costa, Edoardo Mortara and Bird himself. The knock-on effect of that shunt also included some remarkable stories on how new monocoques were allocated throughout the paddock. Fenestraz describes his pride in Nissan achieving its best result in almost two years, while the Franco-Argentinian also mulls over a promising yet ultimately difficult weekend in which his excellent Saturday qualifying essentially counted for nothing come the race. The victorious season for Mercedes and Stoffel Vandoorne gets the deep dive treatment as does the German manufacturers legacy in Formula E after leaving the all-electric series on a high. The trio choose their top performing drivers of the season and mull over some excellent individual performances from Mitch Evans, Jake Dennis, Edoardo Mortara and Pascal Wehrlein. At the other end of the scale fans of Porsche and Antonio Giovinazzi should be advised of some stark appraisals after scrappy 2022 campaigns. All this and extra amusement via Smith's Seoul taxi debacle, VDB's gripe over the difficulty in finding Formula E races to watch on TV in the first place and some smugness over pre-season predictions add to the 2022 valedictory feel. The Race Formula E podcast welcomes newly crowned ABB FIA Formula E World Champion Stoffel Vandoorne as he savours a hard-earned title sealed in Seoul last weekend. The Mercedes EQ driver gives an extensive appraisal of how he achieved his first title since his 2016 GP2 triumph and how he soaked up the pressure to beat a feisty challenge from Mitch Evans. The former McLaren F1 driver talks Sam Smith and Andrew van de Burgt through his season of supreme consistency and how races at Berlin and Marrakesh were vital to his successful campaign. Vandoorne also gives us insight in to the new-look qualifying format and the fresh hierarchical nature of the racing which he and many of his title rivals enjoyed much more this season. In addition to the new champ's insight, Sam and Andrew also discuss Edoardo Mortara's win, Oliver Rowland's astonishing pole lap and the eight-car melee (or was it a shamozzle?) that red flagged Saturday's race. Welcome to Episode 32 of the Lovecars On The Grid Podcast! Our hosts Tiff Needell and Paul Woodman bring us another roundup of motorsport events from the past week. Paul joins us from a secret location where we are looking to do some filming! This week, we've had lots of exciting racing in the UK, NASCAR and more! The Formula 1 drivers are on their Summer break. If the FIA admitted human error in the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, why have Mercedes let it go? Toto Wolff has been accused of being 'too powerful' in the World of Motorsport by Mario Andretti. Lewis Hamilton was seen in the W Series paddocks, stating that the drivers need more support to get into the sport. With Paul being away, he wasn't present at the Caterham Race at Anglesey, where friend of the channel, Charlie Lower took another win! The British Superbikes were at Thruxton, with some of the best racing Tiff has ever seen! Jason O'Halloran took the win in the first two races, but Tarran Mackenzie took the lead in the third race with just a few corners to go! Very exciting racing. The other British racing this weekend was the Touring Cars at Snetterton. There wasn't much overtaking at this circuit, with a great weekend for BMW as the heat affected the FWD cars. Colin Turkington won the first two races, with Ford's Ashley Sutton taking the third win. The BTCC was supported by some amazing racing in the Ginetta series. Internationally, the NASCAR boys were racing at the Richmond Raceway in Virginia, with a second win on the trot for Kevin Harwick. Just two races to go before the playoffs! Watkins Glen is coming up, with Formula 1 driver, Kimi Raikonnen making a debut! The first race of the World Rallycross Championship also took place this weekend, the electric rallycross series. The series was in Norway, with just 8 cars on the grid. We had the last round of the Formula E Championship at Seoul in South Korea, with a win for Edoardo Mortara, with Stoffel Vandoorne securing second place and winning the Championship. Next weekend, we have Indycar at Gateway Oval as we have some the last three exciting rounds coming up. WRC is in Belgium, plus Moto GP at the Red Bull Ring. Plus, we have Kimi Raikonnen at Watkins Glen in NASCAR!

Guest host Jack Nicholls is joined by Sam Smith and Avalanche Andretti's Roger Griffiths, who with driver Jake Dennis was the toast of the UK's capital last weekend after a dominant victory and a close second to Sunday victor Lucas di Grassi at the ExCeL centre circuit. In a packed show the trio discuss the diminishing title fight after Stoffel Vandoorne again capitalised on reliability misfortune for Mitch Evans and incident packed races for both Edoardo Mortara and Jean-Eric Vergne. There were plenty of afters too as Mercedes EQ got embroiled in an aborted choreography plan, while Sebastien Buemi and Pascal Wehrlein almost came to blows in the pit-lane and had to be separated by Griffiths' commercial director and occasional columnist of The Race, Jim Wright! In addition to the London action there is also a look ahead to Seoul and Griffiths reflections on Andretti's BMW journey which has roots stretching all the way back to the start of Formula E. Siedma sezóna Formuly E je minulosťou a jej finále opäť potvrdilo, že ide o jeden z najnepredvídateľnejších šampionátov na svete. V hre o titul bolo množstvo pilotov. Matt Kew is back from attending the first two Formula E events to answer the big questions arising from both action-packed races. Friday was dominated by a supreme performance from Nyck der Vries who dominated every session and drove to a commanding win in the first ePRix of the Diriyah double header. On Saturday, Sam Bird would be handed the win after a red flag brought a premature end with 3 minutes left on the clock, which overshadowed a victory he always looked to have under control. Two major incidents naturally dominated the talking points. Alex Lynn ended his weekend upside down in his Mahindra after a spectacular airborne incident which, somehow, wasn't the scariest moment of the weekend. That honour goes to Edoardo Mortara who accelerated off the track and hit the wall head-on during the Saturday practice session. “To be frank with you I thought that was pretty much the end for me" he said afterwards. On the podcast we explain how a software issue left Mortara with no ability to stop the car, and what the solution was.In the latest episode of Teammate Wars, DS Techeetah’s Vergne and da Costa wound up in another situation which required a post-race summit to establish the rules of engagement. Again. Matt Kew (Autosport Editorial Assistant) is joined by Alex Kalinauckas (Grand Prix Editor, Autosport).

Read More About Patreon here EVne.ws/patreon   Read today’s show notes on https://www.evnewsdaily.com   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Monday 11th March 2019. It’s Martyn Lee here and I’ve been through every EV story I could find today, and picked out the best ones to save you time.   Welcome to a new Patreon of the podcast, and a new EXECUTIVE PRODUCER it’s ROB COOLING.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   BIRD PENALISED, LOSES HONG KONG E-PRIX WIN "Sam Bird has lost his Hong Kong E-Prix victory after getting a five-second penalty for his clash with Andre Lotterer late-on in the ABB FIA Formula E race on Sunday." says Alex Kalinauckas for Motorsport.com: "Edoardo Mortara has been promoted from second to first as a result of the penalty and takes his and Venturi’s first FE victory. Bird had spent the majority of the race hounding long-time leader Lotterer and the Envision Virgin Racing driver held a sizeable energy advantage as the finish approached. On the penultimate lap at the Turn 2 90-degree right hander, Bird hit Lotterer’s right rear tyre, which caused a puncture a few corners later that dropped the DS Techeetah driver from the lead down into 14th and last of the classified drivers."   https://www.motorsport.com/formula-e/news/bird-lotterer-penalty-win-stripped/4350171/   TESLA CHANGES STRATEGY: WILL RAISE PRICES AND REDUCE STORE CLOSURES "Tesla just announced that during further evaluation of its plan to close many stores, it has come to a new conclusion. The automaker now plans to leave “significantly more stores” open so that it can continue to evaluate the situation." Says Steven Loveday for InsideEVs.com: "Tesla points out that the stores it previously closed weren’t popular stores in the first place, and would have been closed regardless. It will have to review other stores over many months to determine if closure makes the most sense. In the meantime, the automaker will increase prices globally by about 3 percent. However, it’s important to note that the $35,000 Standard Tesla Model 3 will remain unaffected. The company says this price increase will only apply to the more expensive variants of its vehicles. This includes the Model S and Model X as well."   A Tesla statement said: "Potential Tesla owners will have a week to place their order before prices rise, so current prices are valid until March 18th. There will be no price increase to the $35,000 Model 3. The price increases will only apply to the more expensive variants of Model 3, as well as Model S and X. To be clear, all sales worldwide will still be done online, in that potential Tesla owners coming in to stores will simply be shown how to order a Tesla on their phone in a few minutes. And the generous return policy of 1000 miles or 7 days, whichever comes first, should alleviate the need for most test drives. However, cars will still be available for test drives at stores at the potential Tesla owner’s request. Stores will also carry a small number of cars in inventory for customers who wish to drive away with a Tesla immediately."   https://insideevs.com/tesla-changes-strategy-raise-prices-reduce-closures/   BAN CARS NEAR SCHOOLS, SAY HEALTH CHIEFS "Cars should be banned from around schools, according to a leading government health chief, and congestion charge zone should be considered in more towns and cities in bids to improve air quality. " writes Hugo Griffiths for AutoExpress: "Previous suggested methods for tackling air pollution include the removal of speedbumps, which would reduce emission-generating acceleration and deceleration, and fines for allowing engines to idle around schools. Councils across the country should also consider implementing congestion charge zones, similar to London’s, in order to bring down levels of pollution. 44 UK towns and cities have previously been found in breach of World Health Organisation limits for PM 2.5 particles – microscopic pieces of soot generated by exhaust fumes and linked to health conditions."   https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/car-news/consumer-news/106271/ban-cars-near-schools-say-health-chiefs   SONO MOTORS UNVEILS PRODUCTION VERSION OF SION SOLAR ELECTRIC CAR Sono Motors has unveiled the first images of the Sion’s series design as part of a broad online release. The focus was placed on the full-surface incorporation of solar modules into the bodywork – one of the vehicle’s unique features that have influenced its design. Thanks to technology developed by Sono Motors, the solar cells meld seamlessly into the vehicle’s surface and can generate up to 34 kilometers of additional range a day at peak performance. This is well above the average distance of 17 kilometers commuters in Germany travel to their workplace. Mathieu Baudrit from Sono said: "After unveiling our first prototype in summer 2017, we continued to develop our solar integration technology, which we have been working on since 2016. The production vehicle will feature full-surface integrated solar cells that are embedded in hard-wearing, resilient polymer and that contribute to the vehicle’s design aesthetic thanks to optimized color matching.”   LAMBORGHINI AVENTADOR SUCCESSOR TO USE SUPERCAPACITORS INSTEAD OF BATTERIES? "Lamborghini CTO Maurizio Reggiani spoke to Road & Track to offer glimpses and set a few things straight. Discussing the coming LB48H supercar, Reggiani said the use of supercapacitors in that limited-run supercar will be a "first jump" into a robust hybrid application for supercapacitors, and that Lamborghini "will prove that in a super sports car, it's possible to have this technology." Writes Jonathon Ramsey for Autoblog: "Based on Reggiani's comment, and likely the fact that Lamborghini uses a special supercar to hint at what's coming in tech and design, RT takes Reggiani's comments to mean that the Aventador successor will "store its electric power electrostatically instead of electrochemically, as you would with a lithium-ion battery."   https://www.autoblog.com/2019/03/11/lamborghini-aventador-successor-supercapacitors/   MASERATI ALFIERI ELECTRIC REVEAL SET FOR 2020 GENEVA MOTOR SHOW "Introduced as a concept in 2014, confirmed for production in 2018, due to be revealed in final form in 2020, and set to go on sale in 2021 or 2022 – that’s the story of the Alfieri." According to Adrian Padeanu for InsideEVs: "Maserati fans have been waiting for parent company FCA to rejuvenate the fabled Italian brand for a long time, and it looks like it’s finally happening. Company boss Harald Wester told Autocar during the Geneva Motor Show this week the GranTurismo replacement will be revealed at next year’s edition of the event held in Switzerland. Customers will get to pick from three electrified powertrains, include a pure electric variant with a triple motor setup, all-wheel drive, and 800V battery tech. The range topper – which is set to feature active aerodynamics and torque vectoring – will need roughly two seconds to reach 62 mph (100 kph) before topping out at more than 186 mph (300 kph)."   https://insideevs.com/maserati-alfieri-reveal-2020-geneva/   COMMUNITY And thanks to MYEV.com they’ve set us another Question Of The Week.
