On today's episode of Comic Stripped, Mark Radulich and Evan Bevins plug into the world of synthetic identity as they compare The Surrogates graphic novel by Robert Venditti and Brett Weldele to its 2009 film adaptation starring Bruce Willis. The original comic explores a near-future society where people live through robotic proxies, raising deep questions about identity, technology, and disconnection from humanity. The film, while keeping the core concept, leans more into action-thriller territory and streamlines the plot for mass appeal. Mark and Evan break down the major story and thematic differences, how the tone shifts from existential sci-fi to Hollywood blockbuster, and whether the adaptation honors or dilutes the source material. It's comics vs. cinema with big ideas, big changes, and big Bruce Willis energy.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59

In this episode of Comic Stripped, Evan Bevins and Mark Radulich take a deep dive into A History of Violence, comparing the 1997 graphic novel written by John Wagner (Judge Dredd) and illustrated by Vince Locke (Deadworld), with the 2005 film adaptation directed by David Cronenberg. Originally published by Paradox Press, an imprint of DC Comics, the graphic novel is a gritty, pulp-inspired crime thriller following Tom McKenna, a small-town diner owner whose violent past resurfaces after he thwarts a robbery and is outed as a former mob hitman. Wagner and Locke craft a tense, noir narrative grounded in bloody realism and identity crisis. The film adaptation stars Viggo Mortensen as Tom Stall, with Maria Bello, Ed Harris, and William Hurt rounding out a powerhouse cast. Screenwriter Josh Olson reworks the core premise, shifting the story's focus from pulpy crime fiction to psychological drama. Cronenberg transforms Wagner's narrative into a meditation on suppressed violence and the duality of human nature, anchored by Mortensen's haunting performance. The panel discusses how Cronenberg stripped down the original's mob-heavy plotting to explore more intimate moral dilemmas — particularly the effect of Tom's hidden past on his family and his sense of self.Evan and Mark also examine how both versions tackle themes of redemption, guilt, and identity, as well as the differing narrative choices — from Locke's visceral, sketchy art style to Cronenberg's cold, calculated visuals. They consider the cultural contexts of both releases, the adaptation's critical acclaim (including Academy Award nominations for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor for William Hurt), and whether either version offers a more definitive take on the cost of violence. Tune in for an in-depth comic-to-screen breakdown with sharp analysis, biting humor, and a respect for storytelling craft across mediums.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59
Hey there zany ones! Evan Bevins is back, and he's brought a crazy comic to talk about in today's episode! Batman must team up with The Creeper to stop a bug! That's right, it'll take both of these heroes to stop a Hellgrammite! Is this real life? Is this just fantasy? I don't think Batman or the Creeper knows, but maybe Freddie Mercury does! Join Mark Radulich and guest Evan Bevins as they explore Corrective Measures, the six-issue limited comic series from Arcana Studio, written by Grant Chastain with art by Fran Moyano. Originally published in 2008, the series tells the story of San Tiburon, a maximum-security prison for super-powered criminals, where corruption runs rampant, and power struggles erupt between inmates, guards, and shadowy government forces. We'll break down the key themes, character dynamics, and narrative choices that made the comic a cult favorite, while also discussing its dark, noir-inspired art style and its place in the superhero genre outside the mainstream publishers. The conversation then shifts to the 2022 live-action adaptation, directed by Sean Patrick O'Reilly and starring Bruce Willis, Michael Rooker, and Tom Cavanagh. We'll explore the film's production history, how it differs from the source material, and the challenges of adapting a complex, character-driven comic on a limited budget. Was the movie a faithful translation of Corrective Measures, or did it strip away the depth that made the comic compelling? Tune in as we analyze both versions and determine whether the film does justice to its gritty, super-powered prison drama roots!Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59

Al Sedano, Jesse Starcher, Evan Bevins and Mark Radulich present our Comic Stripped: Logan's Run Movie and Comic Review! Logan's Run (1976) is an American science fiction action film directed by Michael Anderson and starring Michael York, Jenny Agutter, Richard Jordan, Roscoe Lee Browne, Farrah Fawcett, and Peter Ustinov. The screenplay by David Zelag Goodman is based on the 1967 novel Logan's Run by William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson. It depicts a utopian future society on the surface, revealed as a dystopia where the population and the consumption of resources are maintained in equilibrium by killing everyone who reaches the age of 30. The story follows the actions of Logan 5, a "Sandman" who has terminated others who have attempted to escape death and is now faced with termination himself. Marvel Comics published a short-lived comic book series, which adapted the movie's story and briefly continued beyond it until the book was cancelled at issue #7. The first five issues were illustrated by George Perez, whom we are celebrating as part of the Super Blog Team UP. Hello, sports fans! With a brand new season upon us, and millions of people around the world engaged in fantasy football, we at Ka-Pow the Pop Cultured Podcast decided to have fun with a "fantasy draft" of our own: Marvel vs. DC! Imagine handing the ball off to the Juggernaut or having a wide receiver like Nightcrawler who could *BAMF* downfield. What if your star linebacker happened to be a Kryptonian and your safety wielded a power ring? Football fanatic Cliff concocted the home team, staffing an entire organization from around the DC Multiverse. The visiting Marvel squad was constructed by our friend, writer of the "Support Group" web comic, in-studio guest Evan Bevins. Who wins? Who loses? Who did we bone-headedly leave on the bench? Reply below with a comment to let us know! So only one question remains... are you ready for some football?Length - 01:00:53Language - PG. (Contains some mildly adult themes.)
