In Today's Episode, Otaku Nate and Tim the Otaku Jock are joined by Voice Actor Aaron Chapman (Captain Dyce) to discuss one of the most acclaimed anime of the 70s: Future Boy Conan. It's the series that marked the proper directorial debut of Hayao Miyazaki, but it's more than just a historical footnote in the medium of anime. Learn how this Post-Apocalyptic story inspired so many, influenced the careers of others, and ultimately why it's not just one of the best anime of the decade, but of all-time.

It's About Time is the Quantum Leap podcast whose mission is to pod right what once went wrong! This week, Gooey Fame of the Virtual Theater Podcast leaps in to talk about episode number 44, "Future Boy"! When Sam leaps onto the set of a 1950s sci-fi show, he meets the time-travelling hero Captain Galaxy. But when Galaxy's alter ego Moe begins to lose touch with reality, Sam will have to heal Moe's relationship with his daughter before the unthinkable occurs. This is a particularly poignant episode of QL, because Sam sees in Moe a kindred spirit, someone who is a dreamer and someone who is also curious about time travel. On the episode, we discuss the events of October 1957 including Sputnik, The Bridge on the River Kwai, alien abduction, and more. We also talk about using the blood code, subtle sci-fi elements, "Hey, it's that guy!", eccentricity vs. mental decline, having the "chops", drinking like a weirdo, Casey Jones, how Twitch replaced call-in shows, and a weird set of birthday coincidences.HOLY SMOKING RETRO ROCKETS!Listen to Gooey on Virtual Theater!http://www.twitter.com/virtualtheaterx

The Quantum Leap Podcast is especially proud to present an interview with Captain Galaxy himself, Richard Herd! Chris spoke to Richard about his roles in two iconic episodes of Quantum Leap and his distinguished acting career. Check out the full podcast about Future Boy here. Note from Albie“Richard was very kind to me and everyone at the Quantum Leap Podcast. A few days before the interview, Richard and I connected on the phone and Skype to do a tech setup and arrange the details of our interview with him, kind of an informal pre-interview conversation. He spoke very highly of everyone involved with Quantum Leap. We talked about his art, Quantum Leap, V, Star Trek: Voyager, and his family. He seemed very appreciative of his good fortune in life and his career. We only spoke for about a half-hour, But I could tell how genuinely nice Richard was. It's something I'll always remember.”

Sam leaps into Kenny Sharp, AKA Future Boy, the sidekick of Captain Galaxy, the star of the St. Louis-based kids show, Time Patrol. Sam is there to save the life of Moe Stein, the actor who plays Captain Galaxy. In two days, he will day attempting to jump a freight train (yeah, we have issues with that), and the only way to save him may be to have him committed to a mental institution. But Moe has other plans – in his basement is what he claims to be a working time machine…and he plans to use it right past mistakes in his life. Sam Fain and Dennis discuss the episode, its many nods to Back to the Future, the Bootstrap time travel trope, as well as their thoughts about how we regard mental illness and eccentricity. Dawn and Rachel are joined by guest Nick Carson to discuss the surprisingly meta episode Future Boy. Sam leaps into the sidekick of a children’s television star who happens to have some bizarre theories about time travel (or are they?) In the meantime we discuss such wide ranging topics as Lego architecture, used porn, and how often Nick needs to use the wok he received as a wedding gift. Also, Rachel and Dawn talk at length about all their various parental issues and why this episode triggered every single one of them. We add Get Out to the seeming endless list of movies Rachel HAS to see, and we definitely get "Friday" stuck in your head. Welcome to Episode 84 of The Ringo Zone! This episode is a special double-sided dynamic duo of an episode, and fittingly so, because we're talking about Future Boy Zoltron! On Side A, Dillon and Evan are live at the Apollo theatre, discussing the duality of creativity and depression, Evan's radio drama “Spooky Street,” and the rarity of a serious episode of The Ringo Zone. On Side B, the rest of the Ringo crew, Kayla, Max, Mickey, and Sabboth stick to important topics like Lars and Sadie never noticing Steven's cosplays and Steven paying people to let him give them life advice. If you're not the reading type and skipped this synopsis, never fear, because I call in from the editing room as a navigator to provide a little guidance for you listeners in this wacky combo episode. Thank you for tuning in, we all appreciate your continued listenership. When George Lucas first began to write “The Star Wars”, as it was originally known, he had no idea that it would become his main life’s work. Beginning as a modern Flash Gordon-style space adventure, the eventual series would become arguably the most successful film franchise in history. In his book How Star Wars Conquered the Universe: The Past, Present, and Future of a Multibillion Dollar Franchise (Basic Books, 2014), Chris Taylor, Deputy Editor at Mashable.com, presents a history of the series, from its development when Lucas was a struggling filmmaker to its rebirth when Disney buys Lucasfilm. He presents the franchise as both a film and cultural phenomenon, with both multigenerational and multinational ties. Chris’s Twitter handle is @FutureBoy. Learn more about your ad choices.
