This week, the Trump administration quietly eased tariffs on a wide range of Chinese goods, a move critics say exposes weakness in the US trade war stance. Meanwhile, President Trump has refused to secure the return of Kilmar Ábrego García, who was unlawfully deported to a prison in El Salvador, escalating showdown between the president and the judiciary. And in Berlin, Germany's new coalition government is already on shaky ground, as leaders of the conservative Christian Democratic bloc and center-left Social Democratic Party clash over policy priorities, leaving Europe's largest economy in political limbo. Leonard Hockstader, Andrew Roth, and Felicia Schwartz join Ivo Daalder on World Review to breakdown this week's power plays and shifting policies and discuss what they mean for global balance.

Bible News Prophecy with Dr Bob Thiel, Is Germany Becoming Orwell's 1984? Brought to you by the Continuing Church of God “Bringing you news and analysis of world events in light of Bible prophecy.” This is a mandate of the Continuing Church of God. In his novel "1984" George Orwell described a totalitarian government that controlled all aspects of human existence. “Big Brother is Watching You” was the reality of this government. George Orwell introduced “Newspeak”, a language that was designed to limit the range of thought. He also defined his concept of “Doublethink”, which is the ability to hold two contradictory beliefs at once and, yet accept both as reality. In 1984, the Thought Police were tasked with actually controlling what people can even think, let alone what they can say! The year 1984 has come and gone, but has George Orwell's “Big Brother” government finally started to arrive? Are many governments in the world today adopting many of the ideas and tactics outlined in George Orwell's book? If so, what government or governments are leading the way? Has Germany just put in its own version of "Thought Police"? Think about this: There is now a German Government initiative to report your family for wrong think Dr. Thiel quotes Luke 12:53 in the Bible and then goes on to further shine the light of Biblical prophecy on the answers to these '666' matters. Answers from the verses of the Bible that bring prophecy to life. Read the full article to this video titled 'Is Germany implementing Orwellian ‘1984' or communist totalitarianism?'

Reductionism - the breaking down of complex phenomena into as many parts as possible to make them fully understandable - is everywhere. To some extent the whole enterprise of modern formal schooling is based on the promise of reductionism, as we break life down into subjects, concepts, facts, etc to be digestible by our young people. It has also enabled unbelievable scientific and technological progress. So who could possibly argue with this? And yet, reductionism has become like the hammer that sees everything as a nail. One of its problems is that is renders everything into a mechanistic functioning of parts and nothing more. Our inability to perceive, understand and value complex and systemic patterns and relationships is maybe something that we need to engage with in our education systems. Dr. Roland Kupers is an advisor on Complexity, Resilience and Energy Transition, Professor of Practice at Arizona State University, as well as an Associate Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Studies at the University of Amsterdam. He is a global advisor on mitigating methane emissions from fossil fuels for UNEP's International Methane Emissions Observatory.A theoretical physicist by training, Roland spent a decade each at AT&T and at Shell in various senior executive functions, including Group head for Sustainable Development and Vice President Global LNG. He has a long running interest in complexity theory and its impacts. He has published widely, including in HBR, on Project Syndicate, A Climate Policy Revolution: What the Science of Complexity Reveals about Saving the Planet (Harvard UP 2020) and co-authored Complexity and the Art of Public Policy: Solving Society's Problems from the Bottom Up (Princeton 2014), The Essence of scenarios (Amsterdam 2014), and Turbulence: A corporate framing of resilience (Amsterdam 2014).In 2010 Roland was a co-author of a report commissioned by the German Government on a New Growth Path for Europe, applying a complexity lens to climate economics. After World War II, when a new German democracy was born in the western region of the vanquished Third Reich, tens of thousands of civil servants were hired to work for newly formed government agencies to get the new republic quickly on its feet. But there was an enormous flaw in the plan: no serious vetting system was put in place to keep war criminals out of government positions. As discussed in Nazis at the Watercooler: War Criminals in Postwar German Government Agencies (University of Nebraska Press, 2024) by Terrence Petty, ex-Nazis—people who had been involved in mass murder, drafting antisemitic laws, and the persecution of Hitler's opponents, as well as other depravities—resumed their careers without consequence in the newly created Federal Republic of Germany. Former Nazis who had established an early foothold in postwar government agencies helped each other get government work by writing letters of recommendation called Persilscheine. These “Persil Certificates,” named after a popular detergent, made an ex-Nazi's recorded past just as clean as fresh laundry, and a whole generation of German government officials with Nazi pasts was never brought to account. Ex-Nazis were given preference for government jobs even over victims of Nazi policies and anti-Hitler resisters. They swapped Nazi uniforms for suits, Hitler salutes for handshakes. And with help from the highest levels of West German government and even the CIA, they swept their crimes under the carpet and resurrected their careers. Nazis at the Watercooler illuminates the network of ex–Third Reich loyalists and the U.S. government's complicity that enabled this mass impunity. This interview was conducted by Dr. Miranda Melcher whose new book focuses on post-conflict military integration, understanding treaty negotiation and implementation in civil war contexts, with qualitative analysis of the Angolan and Mozambican civil wars. My weekly german newsletter can be booked here steady. I work as a keynote speaker, panelist and author. Feel free to contact me! Liljana Tomoviç is a professor from the University of Belgrade with decades of experience. As her research takes place primarily in the midst of nature, she has a very deep insight into the changes that climate change is already having on the country. Aleksandar Matković is a member of the "Green-Left Front", the main left-wing opposition party in the Serbian parliament, where he helps shape the party's new economic policy. As a researcher he turned into a political with questioning the dependency of his country regarding Chinese corporates and got death threats after questioning lithium mining in Serbia. Read his Open letter regarding Rio Tinto and the “mining colony that Serbia is turning into”. In this episode of my podcast, we talk about the very specific effects that the planned mining deal, which in Germany is primarily based on the lithium requirements of car manufacturers, will have on people in Serbia, from environmental destruction to displacement. We talk about state violence, which hundreds of thousands of people in the country refuse to be intimidated by because they are afraid of a future in which their country can no longer be worth living in because it has been exploited in a neo-colonialist manner. In July of this year, Belgrade gave the green light for lithium extraction, having temporarily halted it two years previously following pressure from environmentalists. Germany needs lithium, especially in the automotive industry. Germany consumes more metal than many of its neighbouring countries, a third of which is used by the automotive industry. This means that Germany's consumption of raw materials is far above a globally fair level. In the interview, we explain that instead of aggressively securing access to critical metals, it would be important to reduce the overall demand for raw materials, emphasises Reckordt. Above all, this would mean building smaller and fewer cars, initiating a turnaround in transport that reduces dependence on cars, recycling raw materials and drastically reducing energy consumption in industry. As a consequence, this would mean carrying out a real green transformation and actually reorganising the economy in a climate-neutral and ecological way instead of creating rebound effects and shifting environmental and human rights problems abroad. This does not go hand in hand with Germany's self-image as a growing export and leading automotive and industrial nation. For those of you who understand German, I also recommend the previous episode that I recorded with Hannah from Powershift. Here we shed light on the almost 100 per cent metal dependency of Germany (and the German automotive industry) on neo-colonial business relationships with countries in the Global South. Serbia Protests, Mining Project, and Environmental Concerns Aleksandar discussed the escalating protests in Serbia due to changing laws allowing mining operations. He shared his involvement in internationalizing the struggle, establishing an ecological organization, and signing a declaration of international solidarity. He also mentioned receiving death threats after criticizing the economic aspects of the mine. Katja added that a protest group member was sentenced to two years in jail, further intimidating protesters. Aleksandar discussed the potential lithium mining project in Serbia, highlighting its potential environmental and social impacts. Ljiljana emphasized the importance of the region's unique landscape for the survival of many populations in Serbia. Both agreed that the project poses a complex problem with various economic, social, and environmental risks. More details on my website: https://katja-diehl.de/.
